digging out the wrapping paper box now...!
for ages i have had notes for building some stringed instruments with at the very least paper soundboards. the most likely design is sort of like a shamisen, with lacquered rice paper. never got beyond a few tests, though. Dennis Waring's book "Cool Cardboard Instruments" has some similar (and cool) ideas.
