Classic Rock New Releases

February 2011

By Dave White, About.com Guide

New releases in February 2011 cover a wide range of genres: progressive, metal, folk rock, country rock, and that special place reserved for artists whose accomplishments and influence on others are so great as to defy fitting into a single genre -- in this case, that would be the late Les Paul.

Jeff Beck - 'Rock 'n' Roll Party Honoring Les Paul' CD / DVD / Blu-ray

Eagle Rock Entertainment
Release date: 2/22/11
This June 2010 performance was Jeff Beck's tribute to the late Les Paul, who died in August 2009. The venue was New York City's Iridium Jazz Club, where Paul performed every week until his death at age 94.
Shout! Factory
Release date: 2/22/11
Previously available only as a bootleg, this is the first sanctioned release of ELP's 1978 concert at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. The CD was mastered using the original analog tapes of the performance.

Joan Armatrading - 'Live at the Royal Albert Hall' CD / DVD

429 Records
Release date: 2/22/11
Joan Armatrading was on tour promoting her 2010 album, This Charming Life when she played London's Royal Albert Hall last April. The performance mixed new and classic songs, and is documented in this package, available as a standalone CD or a CD + DVD combo.

Flying Burrito Brothers - 'Authorized Bootleg: Fillmore East New York ...'

Hip-O Select
Release date: 2/22/11
The title pretty much sums it up. This 1970 performance featured the lineup of Chris Hillman, Bernie Leadon, Michael Clarke, Sneaky Pete Kleinow, and Rick Roberts. It was recorded shortly after founding member Gram Parsons left to pursue a solo career.

Motörhead - 'The Wörld is Yours' CD / Vinyl LP

UDR
Release date: 2/8/11
Currently touring North America celebrating their 35th anniversary, Motörhead release their 20th studio album, The Wörld is Yours. Band founder, lead vocalist Lemmy Kilmister on the album's subject matter: "They're not my favorite topics, but I feel compelled to talk about them ... everything is mind control, everything is the man trying to stop you thinking and only do what he says. It's never worked yet, but it hasn't stopped them trying."

John Waite - 'Rough & Tumble' CD

Model Music Group
Release date: 2/22/11
John Waite's tenth solo studio album is something of a departure from his '70s work as lead singer for The Babys and Bad English. "I'm not saying it's high art," says the veteran rocker, "but genuinely speaking, it's fantastic for me. I certainly am interested in spending the rest of my life doing something creative rather than just living in the past."
