I absolutely concur with the take on KISS. I suspect that even now, most "critics" would just love to dismiss KISS ... but feel they cannot just because of their longevity.

Gene Simmons may be the worlds most conceited flaming as*hole, but, he struck gold with Kiss and they have an especially dedicated hardcore fan base, it almost borders on rabid. Kiss embraced the "fantasy" element of rock and roll early on and I think that translates instantly to certain people, its almost universal. Kiss continues to attract new fans every year, and every tour.... people go just to see the show and suddenly they are fans.
Critics are idiots. There is no way on earth any of them who hate Kiss, could strap on 50 pounds of leather and platform boots and makeup, and go out in front of a stack of marshalls and thoroughly entertain 15000 people.
They really just dont get what Kiss has always been about.
