Dio, Queen Remembered
Tributes to the late Ronnie James Dio continue, with the release of a live album, a vinyl reissue, and a three book set of the singer's memoirs. Dio died in May of this year, six months after being diagnosed with stomach cancer.
Dio At Donington UK: Live in 1983 & 1987, a two-CD set featuring the band's performances at the Monsters of Rock festival, is set for release November 9. Dio's debut album, Holy Diver (1983) will be reissued on 180 gram vinyl on November 23.
Dio's widow, Wendy tells Rolling Stone about plans for a set consisting of the late singer's memoirs, a photo book and a book of "illustrated lyrics." The project is currently being shopped to potential publishers.
The most recent iteration of Queen (2004-2009) featured vocalist Paul Rodgers (ex- Free, Bad Company) and Queen co-founders Brian May and Roger Taylor. During its relatively short existence, the group did two world tours, a studio album (The Cosmos Rocks), a live album, and two concert DVDs.
Now, more than a year after the collaboration ended, it is being documented in print. Rockmos! is a thick (342 pages) photographic diary of the band's tours of Europe and North America. A portion of the profits will go to the Mercury Phoenix Trust, which funds AIDS research and education. The trust was created by surviving band members after original lead singer, Freddie Mercury died of AIDS-related causes in 1991.
