[Classic_Rock_Forever] Jimmy Page, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, KISS, Deep Purple Machine head Tribute album, Jon Lord, and tons more hard rock and heavy metal news

Crown has set an October 23 release date for "Light & Shade: Conversations With Jimmy Page", by Guitar World's Brad Tolinski.

Jimmy Page was the leader, mastermind, guitarist and producer of LED ZEPPELIN, described by Rolling Stone magazine as "the biggest band of the Seventies" and "unquestionably one of the most enduring bands in rock history." While there is no shortage of written material out there on LED ZEPPELIN's legacy, no member has written their own memoir and rarely have they cooperated with the press or a biographer — certainly never Page. For the most part, their exploits are merely the stuff of legend. On the rare occasions that Page has opened his doors to journalists, he has done so with caution.

Over the last twenty years, Brad Tolinski, editorial director of Guitar World, Revolver and Guitar Aficionado magazines, has interviewed Page more than any other journalist in the world and by asking incisive questions, he's been able to gain the trust of this greatly misunderstood artist. Sifting through over fifty hours of conversations that touch on everything from the 1960s music scene and his early years as England's top session guitarist working with artists like THE WHO, THE KINKS, and Eric Clapton, to his wild years in LED ZEPPELIN, and post-ZEP projects, "Light & Shade" will provide readers with the most complete picture of the media-shy guitarist ever published.

Says Slash (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES): "This is the most comprehensive and compelling collection of interviews, insights and historical anecdotes of one of rock and roll's premier guitarists, songwriters and producers ever compiled. A fascinating must-have for Jimmy Page fans like myself."

Added Kirk Hammett (METALLICA): "'Light & Shade' illuminates the haunted genius of Jimmy Page in an original and completely satisfying way. The conversational dynamic between the author and the subject reveals a wealth of info about the man, the music, and the magick."

Said Billy Gibbons (ZZ TOP): "Jimmy Page... the one and only! From mild to wild, Jimmy sez it all. This fine work will rock you!"

Following are quotes from Jimmy Page as told to Brad Tolinski in various interviews over the years.

"I really don't like showing people how I play things; it's a little embarrassing because it always looks so simple to me." - Jimmy Page, as told to Brad Tolinski, Greg Di Benedetto and Andy Aledort in the December 1993 edition of Guitar World.

"I can't speak for others, but for me drugs were an integral part of the whole thing, right from the beginning, right to the end. And part of the condition of drug taking is that you start thinking you're invincible. I'll tell you something that is absolutely crazy. I remember one night climbing out of a nine-story window in New York and sitting on one of those air conditioning units, looking over the city. I was just out on my own and I thought that it might be an interesting thing to do. It was totally reckless behavior. I mean, it's great that I'm still here to have a laugh about it, but it was totally irresponsible. I could have died and left a lot of people I loved. I've seen so many casualties." - Jimmy Page, as told to Brad Tolinski in the July 2003 edition of Guitar World.

"We were never a band that did 96 takes of the same thing. I had heard of groups that were into that kind of excess around that time. They'd work on the same track for three or four days and then work on it some more, but that's clearly not the way to record an album. If the track isn't happening and it creates some sort of psychological barrier, even after an hour or two, then you should stop and do something else. Go out: go to the pub, or a restaurant or something. Or play another song." - Jimmy Page, as told to Brad Tolinski and Greg Di Benedetto in the January 2002 edition of Guitar World.

"[We] did record a lot of shows, but many of the board tapes were stolen from me many years ago. They were sort of 'relieved' from my house in the early Eighties when I wasn't there. All of that stuff, along with the recordings of our rehearsals, were stolen and surfaced as bootlegs, which is a drag." - Jimmy Page, as told to Brad Tolinski in the July 2003 edition of Guitar World.

JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford recently spoke to Loudwire about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's follow-up to their 2008 concept album "Nostradamus".

Asked what fans can fans expect from the next PRIEST CD, Halford said, "We've already got a strong cross-section of ideas, some of them complete, some of them in bits and pieces. It's shaping up to be quite intense, in terms of the riffage and the strength of certain tracks. Much like every time you try and talk about music, it's practically impossible to capture it. You can only point it in the direction of where things are shaping up, and it's just glorious. If I try to pinpoint it, there are elements of 'British Steel' and there elements of 'Painkiller' in terms of the vibe. We've got a really solid record coming together slowly in a strong metal way that will make all of our PRIEST fans around the world very happy and content. At least I hope it does."

Regarding a possible release date for the new PRIEST album, Halford said, "I'm not really sure. It'll be ready when it's ready. We're not under the same clock as we used to be. I remember in the '80s we were banging out a record almost every year, and that was on top of putting in a world tour. We have the luxury now, if you want to call it that, of taking our time. And that's just because that's the way it is. We're just as eager to get this done as ever, but we do it at a slower pace. It's that British thing, you know? [laughs] It's that monarchy thing. But, I hope it'll be out next year. My gut tells me it'll be out next year. You know what, 2013, let's go for it. Let's look forward to that moment for another PRIEST record for everyone to bang their heads to."

JUDAS PRIEST played the final show of its "Epitaph" world tour on May 26 at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, England. The sold-out concert was professionally filmed for a 2013 DVD release.

On the topic of PRIEST's future touring activities, Halford said, "We're simplifying things from a road point of view. We're not going to go out on any two year treks. It's a little more difficult to do that at 61 than it was at 60. [laughs] Having said that, I was looking at the early editing of the PRIEST show a couple months ago in London at the famous Hammersmith Odeon. I got the DVD about a week ago and I can't stop watching it. It's just unbelievable to look at. What I'm trying to say is that the components, the important pieces of what being in a band is all about, are as strong as when we started out. I can see that, I can hear that, by looking at that DVD. That's encouraging. We are going to go out, we're just simplifying where we go out and for how long. It's definitely not the end. The heavy metal fat lady hasn't sang yet. She's tied up in a float case. She's handcuffed somewhere in a float case. There's no end in sight. Why say it's the end when it's not the end? Why say the end is coming when it ain't, you know? PRIEST is just going to keep going as long as it can. As long as we want to be in the band, as long as we want to keep making metal, we're going to keep doing it. At the forefront of all that, though, are the fans that look after us. We wouldn't deprive the fans of another great record or another great show. Our life has existed because of the fan base that looks after us. Our fans are excited and eager to get more PRIEST, so we'll hopefully deliver the goods next year."

Jim Beal Jr. of the San Antonio Express-News spoke to drummer Nicko McBrain of British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN ahead of the band's August 15 concert at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On IRON MAIDEN's enduring popularity:

McBrain: "A couple of things [have contributed to IRON MAIDEN's longevity]. The obvious one is the strength of the material. If we didn't have good songs we wouldn't still be here. And there's our passion for the music. Each of us loves the playing and the music. We love to play live. We make great records, but we also have a great love of playing live."

On whether the IRON MAIDEN bandmembers have a competitive nature:

McBrain: "Without a doubt. But we don't physically verbalize that to each other. Our competition is in-house. When we go in to make a record, we don't talk about the last record and what we're going to do the same or what we're going to do differently.

"Our favorite album is the one we're working on now. We know there are great bands out there, but we don't worry about competing with them. We're competing with ourselves."

On reprising, with updated production, the 1988 "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Tour" on the current "Maiden England World Tour":

McBrain: "Last year we toured with the album 'The Final Frontier'. We didn't want to do that again. We've done a couple of history tours in the past, playing the greatest hits. This year we decided to back to the year 1988 and revisit 'Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son'. We sat down and pieced the tracks together for a set then got down to rehearsing and working out the stage production."

On IRON MAIDEN's strong ties with the fans:

McBrain: "Every band in the world will say their fans are the best, but IRON MAIDEN fans become part of the family. It's pretty hard to please all of the fans all of the time. We know some of them have a bit of a moan if a certain song is not in the set, but our fans are truly loyal and we never want to let them down."

On having three lead guitarists in IRON MAIDEN:

McBrain: "Steve [Harris, bass] and I lock in to what we do. Having three guitar players gives us fuller sound and they're all fantastic players. Sometimes I think they're almost too polite when it comes to splitting up the solos. We have a great time. After all these years, there are no egos in this band."

KISS will release its 20th studio album, "Monster", on October 16 through Universal Music Enterprises. Described in a press release as a "12-track, straight-ahead rock 'n' roll album," the CD features collaborations among all four members — including co-founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons and longtime members guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer — in an album that shows the band at the top of its game.

"Monster" track listing (iTunes version):

01. Hell Or Hallelujah
02. Wall Of Sound
03. Freak
04. Back To The Stone Age
05. Shout Mercy
06. Long Way Down
07. Eat Your Heart Out
08. The Devil Is Me
09. Outta This World
10. All For The Love Of Rock & Roll
11. Take Me Down Below
12. Last Chance
13. Right Here Right Now

"Monster" is the group's first studio album since the band's 2009 smash success, "Sonic Boom", and was also produced by Paul Stanley with Greg Collins at Conway Studios in Hollywood, California, and The Nook in Studio City, California.

"Monster" represents KISS' nod to the music that first inspired them to pick up their guitars and flame-throwers and don makeup to entertain millions. The group goes back to their own beginnings with THE WHO-like "Freak", while Gene lives up to the title track's declaration on the raucous rock of "Back To The Stone Age" and the bludgeoning "The Devil is Me". Even guitarist Thayer takes a turn on his own with "Outta This World". a tribute to his KISS "spaceman" character, while drummer Singer provides the vocals (and the back story) for the arena anthem "All For The Love Of Rock & Roll".

"There are no symphony orchestras, boy choirs, keyboards, outside producers or songwriters on this album," promises Gene Simmons. "The best thing we did was to turn inwards to ourselves. Tommy and Eric have revitalized this band, with a work ethic and the talent to back it up. This is a real band effort. KISS has become a behemoth. We're going where no bands have gone before."

"Re-Machined: A Tribute To Machine Head" will initially be made available with Classic Rock magazine's upcoming DEEP PURPLE fanpack. Due on Septemer 4, the fanpack also comes with an in-depth, official, band-endorsed 124-page magazine which includes exclusive new interviews with world-class guitarists Joe Bonamassa and Steve Vai and the members of METALLICA, IRON MAIDEN and CHICKENFOOT, among others, talking about recording these classic songs, plus brand new interviews with DEEP PURPLE — one of the last interviews with the late Jon Lord — on the making of their most well-loved album and exclusive and previously unpublished photographs and artefacts from the PURPLE archives.

Hearing of Jon Lord's sad passing, Glenn Hughes assembled some friends to cut "Highway Star" last week as a tribute to his dear friend. The performance is one of the greatest performances Glenn Hughes has committed to record.

Drummer Lars Ulrich of METALLICA, who are also recording a song for the upcoming Ronnie James Dio tribute album, previously said, "We were asked if we'd contribute to the anniversary of 'Machine Head' — we can't turn that down. We're circling the Dio and PURPLE catalogs and hopefully we'll come up with something that is worthy of these wonderful men."

"Re-Machined: A Tribute To Machine Head" track listing:

02. Highway Star - CHICKENFOOT
03. Maybe I'm A Leo - GLENN HUGHES, CHAD SMITH, LUIS MALDONADO

Legendary DEEP PURPLE keyboardist Jon Lord always wanted a studio recording of his famed Concerto For Group And Orchestra. Only recently did he publicly make this wish a reality. In what turned out to be his swan song, he assembled guest musicians such as IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson, Joe Bonamassa (BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION) and DEEP PURPLE guitarist Steve Morse at the Abbey Road Studios to work with his trusted partner, director Paul Mann, on the 2012 version of the legendary concert.

"Over these last years since leaving DEEP PURPLE, I've played it over 30 times with different orchestras and conductors all over the world, and, of course, in 2000 I did it well over 30 times with PURPLE on the Concerto tour, so I've been honing the piece live on stage and I've had the opportunity to change things in the score that weren't sounding quite right," Lord said in a May 2011 interview. "It is therefore a marvelous and exciting prospect to have the definitive recording of the definitive version of the score."

He added, "I'm thrilled to have the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic on board. I have immensely enjoyed working with them on several occasions since recording Durham Concerto with them in 2007. They are a wonderful group of players, and with Paul Mann conducting — a dear friend and a man who knows the score inside out — there couldn't be a better conductor and orchestra for this studio recording of the Concerto."

On July 16, Lord passed away in London at the age of 71. This album is a joyful testament of a great musician and fantastic man.

"His dignity and graciousness touched us all," the surviving members of DEEP PURPLE said in a statement following Lord's passing. "His music was an inspiration and took us to places beyond our imagination… A truly great man. We humbly express our eternal love and great respect."

Jon Lord's Concerto For Group And Orchestra will be released on September 25 via Eagle Rock Entertainment.

The track listing is as follows:

01. Movement One
02. Movement Two
03. Movement Three

According to The Pulse Of Radio, GODSMACK drummer Shannon Larkin gave Loudwire an update on the condition of frontman Sully Erna, whose strained vocal cords forced the band to cancel most of its European tour earlier this summer. Asked how Erna's voice was doing, Larkin replied, "He's doing fine and he only needed two weeks until they said that his voice would be completely back to normal and that was three weeks ago. We did a couple fly-in shows last week, just two shows, and he sang great, and everyone was really excited and ready for this tour."

Explaining what happened on the European trek, Larkin continued, "The problem was, at this point we're not spring chickens anymore. The problem was he would have tried to sing the rest of the tour. We were afraid, and he was afraid that it could permanently damage his vocal cords to where his voice would change or he wouldn't be able to hit notes that he hit before. That was probably the biggest bummer of the decade I've been in this band for all four of us to have to come home from a tour."

GODSMACK will hit the road later this month as part of the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival. They will share the bill with SHINEDOWN, STAIND, PAPA ROACH and others. The jaunt gets underway on August 17 in Kansas.

GODSMACK will also be one of the headliners on the ShipRocked 2012 cruise this year, taking off from Fort Lauderdale, Florida in late November for five days. Larkin said that GODSMACK will perform two completely different shows on the cruise, but has not decided what each one will be.

The drummer added that Erna needed some convincing to do the cruise, explaining, "Yeah, he kept saying, 'I'm not a boat guy.' I said, 'I'm not a boat guy either' . . . We convinced him basically by saying look man, we had a fantastic time, we've already been there and done that, and there wasn't any kind of weirdness on the seas. On those boats it doesn't even feel like you're moving, it's like you're on land, so there's no seasickness or anything like that."

The previously announced first annual Mayhem Festival Cruise — which was scheduled to set sail on Friday, December 7, 2012 from the Port of Miami, Florida and travels to the Bahamas, returning to the mainland on Monday, December 10 — has been canceled.

The event's organizers have released the following statement:

"Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we have been forced to cancel the Mayhem Festival Cruise.

"If you purchased a cruise package, you will be automatically refunded to the credit card you used to purchase. If you used a prepaid card or gift card to purchase the cruise, please contact Rose Tours for your refund (215-663-8800). If you used a credit or debit card, you will see the credit within the next 2 to 3 weeks. We are also offering anyone who purchased a cruise ticket a lifetime complimentary pass to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival summer tour. You will still receive your cruise refund in addition to the lifetime pass to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tour. This pass is valid on any tour date beginning in 2013. Details on getting these lifetime passes will be announced shortly.

"We apologize for the cancelation."

Mayhem Festival Cruise promised to offer fans a chance to experience a blistering 90-minute set from each one of six killer heavy metal bands — LAMB OF GOD, MACHINE HEAD, ANTHRAX, HATEBREED, SUICIDE SILENCE and KINGDOM OF SORROW — as well as additional showcase sets from Century Media, Metal Blade Records, Roadrunner Records and Sumerian Records artists, including GOJIRA, PERIPHERY, BORN OF OSIRIS, BATTLECROSS, OTHERWISE, GIRL ON FIRE, ANTI MORTEM, and GYSPYHAWK. Mayhem veterans JDevil (Jonathan Davis of KORN) and DJ Starscream (Sid of SLIPKNOT) were also slated to perform full DJ sets each night.

The performance portion of the video was shot on the Billy Ranch in Hopland, California, where the flames were huge and the temperatures were high.

The "Native Blood" clip is about the growth a Native American youth throughout the years. When faced with hatred, racism, bullying, and harassment, he uses nature's sanctuary to recharge and meditate on the lessons he learned from his grandfather to handle these very tough situations in a way to honor and dignify himself and his people.

Billy previously stated about "Native Blood", "It's almost like a protest song, that the Native Americans have a voice that needs to be heard — that's the chorus of the song."

CNN has apologized to the Connecticut hardcore/metal masters HATEBREED after publishing an article which erroneously listed them as one of "white power" bands whose names "defiantly express feelings of hate or violence."

After it was revealed that the white supremacist responsible for the massacre earlier this week at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin was a white supremacist skinhead who played in two white power music bands, END APATHY and DEFINITE HAT, Lonnie Nasatir — the director of the Anti-Defamation League's Upper Midwest Region — wrote an opinion piece urging members of the media to "shine the light of day on the hateful lyrics and subculture, so that more people will speak out and reject their disturbing and sometimes violent message." In the article, he named less than a dozen of "about 100 to 150 white power bands" that exist in the United States, and included HATEBREED in the list.

Usurprisingly, this caused many of HATEBREED's fans to send angry tweets to CNN pointing out the error, with the bandmembers themselves posting the following message on Twitter earlier today: "Again @CNN loses all respect. First they ignore the #FREERANDYBLYTHE story now they slander us. We demand a retraction & an apology. #hacks"

CNN eventually caught wind of its mistake and removed HATEBREED's name from the list. In addition, the following message was posted at the bottom of Nasatir's article: "A previous version of this commentary incorrectly included the band HATEBREED in a list of white power bands. HATEBREED is a self-described 'hardcore metal' band. CNN regrets the error."

Due to reasons beyond the band's control, New Brunswick, New Jersey's melodic, thrash-metal warriors GOD FORBID have been forced to cancel their appearance at this year's edition of the Heavy MTL festival, set to take place this weekend (August 11-12) at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

GOD FORBID guitarist/vocalist Doc Coyle had a bag containing his passport stolen from the band's dressing room when they performed in San Antonio, Texas on July 27 as part of the Trespass America tour. According to Coyle, the "beat-up Swiss Gear backpack" also contained his "MacBook pro laptop, iPod, hard drive, headphones, toiletries, etc." He added, "I do everything with my computer. Communicate, create music. This sucks big time, but it's just stuff. I am lucky I have my health. So many are less fortunate."

GOD FORBID's new album, "Equilibrium", sold 3,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 156 on The Billboard 200 chart. Finnish metallers CHILDREN OF BODOM will release their photo book, "Roadkill", on Wednesday, August 8 via Hatecrew.com. The first 666 copies are numbered and personally signed by the band.

Photography for "Roadkill" started in 2007. It includes exclusive material of life on the road, shows, promo shoots, recording sessions, album cover production and the worldwide "hate crew," as the band's fans are affectionately known. The book also contains comments and diary entries by the band and the photographer, Jussi Hyttinen of FLC415.

According to a press release, "Roadkill" "is about perspective. There are no on stage hero shots from the photo pit. Instead it presents a very intimate viewpoint of the band and the hate crew. A raw photographic documentary of how the life of CHILDREN OF BODOM really looks like."

"Roadkill" is a heavy 230 mm x 237 mm hardcover book with 256 pages.

A trailer for the book can be seen below.

CHILDREN OF BODOM was forced to cancel several shows last month — including those in Oslo, Norway and Malmö, Sweden — after guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho was rushed to the hospital with extreme stomach pain.

After spending a week and a half receiving treatment in Oslo, Alexi was released from the hospital and the band performed at this year's Ilosaarirock festival, which was held July 13-15 in Joensuu, Finland.

CHILDREN OF BODOM recently inked a worldwide deal (excluding Japan) with Nuclear Blast Records.

LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe was released from a prison in Prague, the Czech Republic, last Thursday (August 2), more than a month after he was arrested and incarcerated on charges of alleged manslaughter. Blythe was facing the possibility of conviction and a long-term jail sentence after a 2010 incident in which a fan attending a LAMB OF GOD show died almost a month later, allegedly from injuries sustained when he was thrown off the stage. Blythe's predicament galvanized the heavy rock community, with artists across the hard rock genre pledging their support.

Blythe and his bandmates will appear at SLIPKNOT's two-day festival, Knotfest, later this month and are already rescheduling a canceled U.S. tour for October.

"Randy's been a good friend of mine for a really long time, and it was killing me, being a friend and being in this position in the industry and whatnot, there wasn't a lot we could for him," SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor tells RollingStone.com. "We were kind of running all over hell and back trying to figure out if there was anything we could do for him, not just because of the Knotfest show, but because he was our bro."

He continued, "Even if he landed and he said that he didn't want to do the shows, I would still be so happy that he's home. He's out of that prison, he's back with his family and I'll get to see him, hopefully soon. The fact that LAMB OF GOD is going to play Knotfest is icing on the cake for me."

Although Blythe paid $200,000 bail shortly after his arrest, prosecutors challenged the bail action and forced Blythe to remain behind bars.

A judge doubled the bail to $400,000 and this time ordered that Blythe go free once it was paid.

Blythe was set free Thursday afternoon and boarded a flight home to the U.S. on Friday (August 3).

"I'm really proud of the metal fans for giving their support and doing everything they can to get the word out and get as much focus on that situation as possible," Taylor tells RollingStone.com. "I'm really proud of them for that and sticking with it, and it's paid off — he's coming home."

Interviewed by a Czech media outlet while waiting for his plane, Blythe said, "I'm relieved to be out of jail but if it's necessary for me to return to Prague to go to this court thing, I certainly will, I'm no flight risk."

Blythe added that he had no memory at all of the incident in question, saying, "I feel very bad that a fan of my band is dead and his family has to go through it, it's terrible, I feel awful for them but it's a tragic coincidence . . . we had no knowledge whatsoever that someone had been injured much less died."
Reactivated late 1980s Portland, Oregon-based thrash metal/hardcore band WEHRMACHT has announced the addition of vocalist Eric Helzer to the group's ranks. Eric joins WEHRMACHT as the replacement for the band's original singer, who exited the group earlier this year due to creative differences and to focus on his DJ career.

After a couple months of rehearsals, WEHRMACHT played its first show with Eric at the Revelations Of Death festival on July 13 in Portland with GHOUL, WITCHAVEN, SPEEDWOLF and others. The response was overwhelming and extremely positive.

According to a press release, WEHRMACHT is "stronger than ever and feels re-energized."

New music is being written and recorded, with a projected release date of either the fall 2012 or early 2013.

In between writing new songs, the band is also rehearsing for upcoming shows.

In the mid-'80s when most west coast metal bands in America were copying either METALLICA or MÖTLEY CRÜE, WEHRMACHT had a different approach which set them apart! By 1986 the band's self-distributed demo cassette and an appearance on the "Speed Metal Hell" compilation series had gained the group considerable acclaim in the metal underground. Music publications such as England's Metal Forces and the Netherlands' Aardschok were among many to praise WEHRMACHT's original sound.

In 1987, New Renaissance Records released WEHRMACHT's debut album entitled "Shark Attack". Although "Shark Attack" was well received by the metal underground, until 1999, it was never available in America on compact disc.

After "Shark Attack", the band set out to record their second album. That album, "Biermacht", was released in spring of 1988 on CD, LP, and cassette. Despite substantial pre-orders for "Biermacht", many record shops and distributors returned the products to the record company after discovering a song entitled "Suck My Dick" was listed on the album's cover. Many distributors also complained about the cover artwork.

I LEGION will release its debut album, "Beyond Darkness", in October. The CD will feature 13 tracks, produced and mixed by former MUTINY WITHIN singer Chris Clancy.

I LEGION is the musical work of Frederic Riverin, who shaped and wrote all the songs in fall 2011 at his home in Quebec. Helped by friend Clancy, he crafted these recordings into a melodic metal machine. Metal monsters Björn Strid (SOILWORK), Jon Howard (THREAT SIGNAL) and Chris himself took the vocal duties and put their melodies and talent over the 12 songs of the album. I LEGION also features modern guitar heroes Peter Wichers (SOILWORK), Angel Vivaldi, and Brandon Jacobs (MUTINY WITHIN) on the lead guitars for tasteful and melodic solos.

All these musicians helped Frederic to create his own album: alone, but with a legion behind him.

"Beyond Darkness" track listing:

01. Hexagram
02. Beyond Darkness
03. Deceive The Light
04. Night Calls
05. Despite Your Grace
06. Escape As Deliverance
07. This World So Black
08. Signs From Above
09. Faithless
10. We Will Fight
11. Dead Inside
12. Search For I
13. Love Is A Battlefield
The second installment of UFOMAMMUT's two-part "Oro" album series — "Oro: Opus Alter" — will be released in North America on September 18 via Neurot Recordings. The CD's intriguing cover art was brought to life once again by the unstoppable force that is the Malleus Art Collective. Additionally the band has continued its tradition of visually presenting each track from the "Oro" series with their fans, and has unveiled the album's second hymn, "Luxon", in full video style.

"Oro: Opus Alter" track listing:

01. Oroborus
02. Luxon
03. Sulphurdew
04. Sublime
05. Deityrant

As with all previous UFOMAMMUT albums, the concepts behind "Oro" are expansive and multi-faceted, mutating the Italian palindrome which translates to "gold" with the Latin translation of "I prey." "Oro" explores the concept of knowledge and its power; the magical stream controlled by the human mind to gain control of every single particle of the world surrounding us. "Oro" is the alchemical process to transform the human fears into pure essence; into Gold.

Although "Oro"'s two chapters will be released months apart from each other, they must be considered as a single track in which the musical themes and the sounds appear and reappear, mutate and evolve, progressively culminating in the crushing final movement. "Oro" is an alchemic laboratory in which substances are flowing, dividing and blending themselves in ten increments from the alembics and stills, culminating into the creation of Gold.

"Opus Alter" is going to fulfill and widen the perspective of the new work of UFOMAMMUT. Starting where "Opus Primum" ended — the album released as well by Neurot in April of this year — "Opus Alter" evolves deeper into devastatingly powerful new territory, where chaos is metamorphosed by cacophonous sound, until the final notes resonate, knowledge is forged and the band strike gold.

UFOMAMMUT is continually updating its tour itinerary, having new performances confirmed across the European continent for the months ahead, with plans coming together to bring their otherworldly mammoth sludge magic across the Atlantic in the near future.

According to The Plain Dealer, L.A. KNIGHTS and CLEVELAND'S BREAKFAST CLUB will perform at a memorial show for late WARRANT singer Jani Lane this Saturday, August 11 at the Ripper Owens Tap House (owned by former JUDAS PRIEST and ICED EARTH singer Tim "Ripper" Owens) in Akron, Ohio. The event will be hosted by comedian and metalhead Don Jamieson, who co-hosts VH1 Classic's heavy metal talk-show series "That Metal Show".

CLEVELAND'S BREAKFAST CLUB features in its ranks Billy Morris, who played with Lane in WARRANT.

"I loved Jani," says Morris. "He moved to Los Angeles to make it in music, but he never left his Ohio roots."

"We'll do some WARRANT songs [on Saturday]," he adds. "You know, [Jani] was just as good of a songwriter as Kurt Cobain, but he got tagged with the whole hair-metal era that MTV and 'Beavis And Butthead' poked fun at, and it really bummed him out."

Lane suffered from "acute ethanol poisoning" when he died at a Comfort Inn motel room in Woodland Hills, California on August 11.

The singer had battled alcoholism for years and also had a history of alcohol-related arrests.

"It's sad. He always battled this demon, and it took its toll on him," says Morris. "He was a regular guy who loved the Browns and playing music."

Lane originally left WARRANT in March 1993 but rejoined the band in September 1994. The group went on to record the "Ultraphobic" (1995), "Belly To Belly" (1996) and "Greatest & Latest" (1999) albums and issued and collection of covers, "Under The Influence", in 2001. Jani quit WARRANT again in 2004 before reuniting with the group four years later.

Lane released a solo album, "Back Down to One", in 2003, but shortly after was admitted to a rehab center for alcohol and drug-related exhaustion. He also appeared on VH1's reality series "Celebrity Fit Club".

Jani is survived by his wife, Kimberly; a brother, Eric; three sisters, Marcine Williams, Michelle Robinson and Victoria Oswald; a daughter from his first marriage, Taylar Lane; a daughter from his second marriage, Madison Lane; and two stepdaughters, Ryan and Brittany.

The first four albums from TALISMAN — the now-defunct Swedish-American melodic hard rock band featuring singer Jeff Scott Soto (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, JOURNEY) and bassist Marcel Jacob (ex-YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) — will be re-released on September 12 in new digipak artwork design with exclusive booklets and previously unrelesed pictures and audio.

Former TALISMAN members Fredrik Åkesson (now in OPETH), Pontus Norgren (HAMMERFALL) and Jamie Borger (TREAT), have contributed old demo recordings, featuring Marcel on bass and guitar.

The first four reissues:

* "Talisman" (1990)
* "Genesis" (1993)
* "Five Out Of Five - Live In Japan" (1994)
* "Humanimal" (1994)

"Live In Japan" was remixed during the summer of 2012 by Pontus Norgren.

More TALISMAN albums will be re-released later in the fall and a DVD/Blu-ray is also in the works.

Marcel Jacob was a Swedish musician, best known as the bassist in the hard rock bands TALISMAN and LAST AUTUMN'S DREAM.

In 1978, he formed the band RISING FORCE together with guitarist Yngwie J. Malmsteen. Four years later, Jacob joined the band FORCE, which later changed its name to EUROPE, replacing John Levén, who took Jacob's place in RISING FORCE. During his time in FORCE, Jacob wrote the song "Black Journey for My Soul" together with vocalist Joey Tempest. The song was eventually included on EUROPE's second album, "Wings of Tomorrow", re-titled "Scream of Anger". After spending three months in FORCE, Jacob traded places with John Levén again, who apparently had issues with Malmsteen.

In 1987, Jacob played on the album "Total Control", the first solo LP released by EUROPE guitarist John Norum. Jacob also co-wrote several of the songs included on that album.

Two years later he formed the band TALISMAN together with vocalist Jeff Scott Soto. Throughout the years TALISMAN was Jacob's major project and the band released several studio and live albums until 2007.

Jacob died on July 21, 2009. He was 45 years old. TALISMAN vocalist Jeff Scott Soto stated about Marcel's passing: "It is with deep regret and remorse I, along with fellow members of TALISMAN, am announcing our brother, longtime colleague and overall greatest musician we've ever played with, Marcel Jacob, is no longer with us as of today, Tuesday July 21, 2009. Marcel took his own life after many years of personal and health issues he was battling."

German death metallers CYTOTOXIN have inked a multi-album deal with Unique Leader Records. The band's second album, "Radiophobia", will be released on November 6. The CD was recorded at Kohlekeller Studios (BENIGHTED, POWERWOLF) in Seeheim, Germany.

The Chernobyl disaster was a catastrophic nuclear accident that occurred on April 26, 1986 at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine. Inspired by this catastrophe and its consequences, a highly radiated newcomer band called CYTOTOXIN simply pulverized the German brutal death metal underground in 2010. Always on an exalted technical level but still keeping one eye on songwriting and heavy, pounding neck-breaker riffs, they formed a deadly mixture. Combined with unique and bulldozing live performances, their fan base increased rapidly.

CYTOTOXIN's full-length debut, "Plutonium Heaven", was released in April 2011.

Virginia grindcore titans PIG DESTROYER have set "Book Burner" as the title of their fifth-full length album, due on October 23 via Relapse Records. The band's first LP in over five years at guitarist Scott Hull's Visceral Sound Studios in Alexandria, Virginia. The CD is described in a press release as "a return to a raw, primitive sound and will feature 19 songs of their signature misanthropic grind."

For the recording of PIG DESTROYER's new album, the band enlisted Adam Jarvis (MISERY INDEX) to lend his inhuman drumming skills to the aural hatred.

In other news, PIG DESTROYER has announced a series of summer and fall festival appearances in support of the new record. The band will head to Europe on August 10 to play the Czech Republic's Brutal Assault festival and Belgium's Ieper Fest, followed by a string of Japanese and Canadian dates. Then in November, they are set to headline the U.K.'s Damnation Festival and play a round of headlining dates. These shows will mark the band's first live performances with Jarvis behind the kit.

Hull previously stated about the recording sessions for "Book Burner", "I'm honestly amazed at how Adam stepped up to the task of learning some challenging shit outside of his standard comfort zone. He came into the studio ready to destroy and destroy he did. And in the haze of long studio hours, he never settled for a bad take. He's a real soldier. Adam has helped breathe new life into the band and we feel like we are starting fresh. Everyone here is excited for people to check out the new jams."

PIG DESTROYER's last album, "Phantom Limb", came out in 2007 via Relapse Records. The CD was recorded at Omega Studios (BAD BRAINS) in Rockville, Maryland under the helm of guitarist/producer Scott Hull.
