Join us July 31 – August 5 2012 in beautiful Boulder Colorado for the 10th Anniversary of Camp Merveilles. This West African drum and dance conference is hosted by the innovative artist, educator, and cultural ambassador from Guinea, Fara Tolno. The conference is named in honor of Tolno's teacher, the late Kemoko Sano, RIP, and his company, Les Merveilles de Guinea, one of West Africa's premiere performance groups.

The artistry and opportunities presented at this annual conference are unparalleled, bringing together prominent local and national talent for amazing community classes and powerful performances. For the 10th anniversary, elders and artists from multiple generations of Les Merveilles will not only share their expertise through class offerings and performance, they will also participate in open community dialogues, exchanging stories about their personal experiences, as well as the current state of Black and African cultural arts in the United States.

Having recently earned his Master of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Colorado, Fara is working to bridge the gap between academic and community-based approaches to African drum and dance in the US. This year, local community members and conference participants will have the opportunity to engage in a social justice analysis of African drum and dance as it currently exists in the United States, and work collaboratively to develop creative strategies for change.
