Robert Plant explains the excitement of the evening in his own words in the liner notes included with the DVD: "Some years back I was propelled by chance, with little planning or expectation into an American way...with a lean and pull into a new direction...voices and harmony, restraint and explosion, tight and loose, great joy in great company....in a blizzard in Nashville. Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer Robert Plant has over 40 years invested in his legendary career in music — and he's still going strong. In 1967, he formed a group called the BAND OF JOY with drummer John Bonham, before the two joined with guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones the following year to form the world-renowned LED ZEPPELIN. After his 2007 "Raising Sand" collaboration with Alison Krauss garnered him six Grammy Awards, Plant created a new BAND OF JOY, which features Nashville native Buddy Miller and Artists Den alumna Patty Griffin. Their widely acclaimed album, "Band Of Joy", was nominated for "Best Americana Album" and "Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance" at the 2011 Grammy Awards.

According to a posting on KISS' official web site, KissOnline.com, the members of KISS got an up-close-and-personal look at a "finished proof" of the massive KISS "Monster" book last week and were quite impressed. Bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons was quoted as saying, "It's fantastic!" After vocalist/guitarist Paul Stanley had his first look, he said, "This book is way beyond my expectations. The photos are incredible at this size. It's not a coffee table book, it's a coffee table!"

The KISS "Monster" book is a retrospective featuring all the different eras of KISS in makeup, starting in the early years and continuing on to present day. "We selected photos that captured the absolute essence of being in and around a KISS concert," says guitarist Tommy Thayer.

"Ten different editions will be dedicated personally to the KISS Army of the biggest countries we've toured throughout the world," Tommy continues. "Each edition will feature a different cover featuring the flag of that nation and inside each book there will be a personally signed, dated and numbered dedication page from the band."

The book is presently being custom printed in Italy at EBS Editoriale Bortolazzi Stei, one of the finest book manufacturers in the world. Each individual copy will be handmade with no machines involved in the finishing and binding of the book. Each book will have a character and feel of its own, at the same time retaining explicit high production standards.

KISS will officially unveil the "Monster" book in July.

KISS has completed recording its new album, "Monster", for a fall release. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "It's A Long Way Down", "Back To The Stone Age", "Shout Mercy", "Out Of This World", "Wall Of Sound" and "Hell Or Hallelujah".

"I wasn't interested in making an album unless I was in charge and no one agreed to it half-heartedly," KISS guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley told Classic Rock magazine. "The band's all there, all the time, and we cut the tracks all facing each other in the same room. Chemistry and camaraderie, that's essential. That's what made [2009's] 'Sonic Boom' so great, and this album is thunderously better."

Tonight's (Tuesday, June 5) DANZIG concert at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has been canceled — reportedly because the band's frontman/namesake Glenn Danzig was taken ill.

According to Bob Suehs of Rock N Roll Experience, Glenn told the crowd at last night's (Monday, June 4) DANZIG show at The Fillmore in Silver Spring, Maryland that he was not feeling well. Despite this, DANZIG played a full set, which included no less than two encores.

Glenn Danzig is performing his "Legacy" career-spanning set featuring songs from DANZIG, SAMHAIN and MISFITS, in a number of U.S. cities. In addition, he is playing four DANZIG shows where is joined by ex-MISFITS axeman Doyle Von Frankenstein as a "special guest."

A "Danzig Legacy" TV special was filmed on May 29 in Glendale, California with director Mark Brooks (Adult Swim's "Metalocalypse").

Glenn Danzig is streaming the track "Devil's Angels" on his official web site. It was originaly the theme song for the late '60's biker film of the same title.

DANZIG is putting the finishing touches on the as-yet-untitled covers record for a late summer/early fall release.

"The Art Of Self Defense" was initially released in 2000 by Man's Ruin Records. Featuring the collective energies of guitarist/vocalist Matt Pike, drummer Des Kensel, and bassist George Rice with producer Billy Anderson, the record billows at the seams with Pike's instantly recognizable guitar tone, first unleashed during his days with stoner metal behemoths SLEEP. An audio hail storm of piledriving riffs, booming rhythms and Pike's gruff vocal tirades, "The Art Of Self Defense" remains a staple in HIGH ON FIRE's renowned catalog of audio greatness.

Austin, Texas metal luminaries THE SWORD will enter Magpie Cage Studios at the end of the month to begin recording their fourth album, "Apocryphon", for an early fall release via their new label partners Razor & Tie. The CD will be produced and engineered by J. Robbins (CLUTCH, JAWBOX) and will feature cover art by famed comic book artist J.H. Williams III (Batwoman, Promethea).

THE SWORD will commence a worldwide tour in support of "Apocryphon" in October.

In advance of last month's premiere of this year's movie "Marvel's The Avengers", THE SWORD released "Hammer Of Heaven", an early track dating back to 2003 that was not included on "Age Of Winters", which the band submitted for inclusion on "Avengers Assemble", a 14-track compilation of music from and inspired by the film.

Due to severe space limitations, the song did not make the final track listing, but the band, along with their new label partners at Razor & Tie decided to make "Hammer Of Heaven" available digitally to coincide with the release of the film. Click here to download the song on iTunes.

THE SWORD's third album, "Warp Riders", sold around 8,900 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 47 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"Warp Riders" marked the first release where the group has worked with an outside producer. Helmed by Matt Bayles (PEARL JAM, MASTODON, ISIS), the album was anchored by an epic science-fiction narrative. The storyline was a psychedelic space opera that explored temporal themes of death and rebirth. "Warp Riders" also found THE SWORD expanding its range from pure metal to include bone-crunching hard rock at large.

RISING WEST, the new band featuring Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield and Parker Lundgren of QUEENSRŸCHE, along with powerhouse vocalist Todd La Torre of CRIMSON GLORY, will be interviewed on this coming Thursday's (June 7) edition of "The Men's Room", which airs on the Seattle station KISW 99.9 FM. You can listen to the program live via the Internet at KISW.com beginning at 4:30 p.m. PST.

RISING WEST will make its live debut on Friday, June 8 and Saturday, June 9 at the Hard Rock Café in Seattle, Washington. The band will perform rare and classic hits from the first five QUEENSRŸCHE albums — from the 1983 EP through 1990's "Empire" — and plans on hitting the studio sometime early summer to begin recording its first release.

A seven-minute YouTube clip containing samples of Todd La Torre performing a number of QUEENSRŸCHE classics can be found below. Also available is Todd's full-length performance of the song "Queen Of The Reich".

La Torre, who says that QUEENSRŸCHE has been his favorite band since he was 15 years old, first met Wilton at this year's NAMM convention in January in Anaheim, California.

"Just for the record and for those asking about CRIMSON GLORY, I am NOT leaving CRIMSON GLORY, I am embarking on another musical endeavor with the members of QUEENSRŸCHE," Todd wrote in an online posting last week. "I am proud and honored to be a part of this! CRIMSON GLORY is still writing new material for our record, DO NOT WORRY This is going to be an amazing new chapter."

He added, "The media and 'fans' can be quite brutal, but I would like to say thank you for all of your amazing support.

"I have nothing but respect for what Geoff Tate has done to the genre. His voice is still amazing. The only thing that is constant is change. I hope the fans of QUEENSRŸCHE, and I'm one of them, will continue to show respect for him and all he has accomplished."

QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate entered the studio on February 29 to begin recording his second solo album.

Tate released his first solo CD in 2002 on Sanctuary Records. Self-titled, the LP was a huge departure from the work he had previously done with QUEENSRŸCHE.

The four original members of the Chicago-based '80s power/doom metal band WITCHSLAYER are scheduled to reunite in September in Phoenix, Arizona "to finally finish what [they] set out to do years ago," according to singer Jeff Allen.

The vocalist added, "We recorded a five-track demo in 1983 that got widely circulated and had a lot of positive reviews from a number of metal fanzines back in the day. We still get inquiries to re-release that demo. A track from that demo entitled 'I Don't Want To Die' was featured on Metal Blade's 'Metal Massacre IV' compilation album. At that time, we were planning to shop our demo around to see if we could land a recording deal with a major label. But before we could go any further, our rehearsal space neighbors, the band TROUBLE, recruited our bass player Sean McCallister for their 'Psalm 9' album. We eventually found a replacement for Sean (Rick Manson) and were slated to open for the German band ACCEPT on their first U.S. tour at Chicago's Metro. But at the last minute, the ACCEPT roadies pulled the plug on us and would not allow us to perform. That was the last straw for us at the time. We'd been banging our heads (no pun intended) for four years and were broke and burned out. We disbanded and went our separate ways. We now feel that the time is right for us to reunite and take a stab at re-recording all of our 17 songs that we have written over the past 30 years, [including] five from that '83 demo."

WITCHSLAYER 2012 is:

Jeff Allen - Vocals
Craig McMahon - Guitar
Dale Clark - Drums
Sean McCallister - Bass

Look for the debut WITCHSLAYER release sometime this fall.

Legendary mastering engineer George Marino, who has worked on such multi-platinum projects as METALLICA's "Metallica", AC/DC's "Highway To Hell", GUNS N' ROSES' "Appetite For Destruction" and BON JOVI's "Slippery When Wet", has died after a year-long battle with lung cancer. During his nearly 40-year tenure at Sterling Sound in New York City, he also mastered albums from such hard rock and heavy metal artists as OZZY OSBOURNE, IRON MAIDEN, DEEP PURPLE, DIO, DOKKEN, ANTHRAX, SAXON, SEPULTURA, DANZIG, DEATH ANGEL, OVERKILL, W.A.S.P., EXODUS, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, HELLOWEEN and KROKUS.

Monte Conner, Senior VP A&R at Roadrunner Records, stated: "I had the pleasure of working with George Marino on many of Roadrunner's all-time classic albums, such as SEPULTURA's 'Chaos A.D.' and 'Roots', TYPE O NEGATIVE's 'Bloody Kisses' and 'October Rust', LIFE OF AGONY's 'River Runs Red', SOUFLY"s debut and 'Primitive', and dozens of others. Not only was he an incredibly talented mastering engineer, but he was the nicest, kindest, most patient man you could ever meet. He put tremendous care into each and every record and is a guy who loved his job and took pride in his work. George was truly one of a kind. An irreplaceable talent and human being."

Added TYPE O NEGATIVE keyboardist and producer Josh Silver: "One must always admire the skill and craftsmanship of someone who is at the top of their field. Even more admirable is when that person accomplishes this while maintaining an immeasurable amount of warmth and class. It was my privilege to be a part of the musical history that was George Marino. I'm certain he will be missed by all who knew him. The loss is ours."

Sterling Sound has released the following statement about Marino's death:

"Today Sterling Sound and the music industry as a whole has suffered a tremendous loss. Senior Mastering Engineer George Marino lost his battle with cancer this morning. Words cannot express the sorrow we feel. George was family to us all and we will miss him dearly."

George joined Sterling Sound in the summer of 1973 where he has worked on many of the industry's most influential albums, including recent Billboard chart toppers like COLDPLAY's "Parachutes", BON JOVI's "Lost Highway", THE OFFSPRING's "Rise & Fall, Rage & Grace", THREE DOORS DOWN's eponymous release and ARCTIC MONKEY's "Favourite Worst Nightmare" as well as Billboard classics, including JOURNEY's "Frontiers", CYNDI LAUPER's "She's So Unusual", eponymous releases by both KISS and THE CARS, and MÖTLEY CRÜE's "Dr. Feelgood".

George started as a musician, playing rock n' roll guitar in New York City bands. His first job in the industry was as a librarian and assistant at Capitol Studios in 1967. He then apprenticed in the mastering department, helping cut rock, pop, jazz and classical albums. When Capitol shut down its New York studio, and before heading to Sterling Sound, George joined the fledgling Record Plant, eventually becoming a partner in the recording-mastering studio. There he quickly established his reputation with projects such as DON MCLEAN's "American Pie" and classic albums by the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND and STEVIE WONDER.

Several hard rock and heavy metal musicians have commented on the passing of legendary Sterling Sound mastering engineer George Marino, who died yesterday (Monday, June 4) after a year-long battle with lung cancer.

METALLICA: "We were very sad today to hear that we have lost a member of our family as mastering engineer extraordinaire George Marino passed away following a year-long battle with lung cancer.

"While some of you may not instantly recognize George's name, he was an invaluable member of our extended METALLI-family and was absolutely crucial with his skills and guidance as he spent countless days and hours tweaking every nuance and sound on The Black Album, 'Load', 'Reload', 'Garage, Inc.', and 'S&M'.

"George was the unsung hero behind the scenes on hundreds of classic albums working in all genres of music, including STEVIE WONDER's 'Innervisions', AC/DC's 'Back In Black', GUNS N' ROSES' 'Appetite For Destruction', BON JOVI's 'Slippery When Wet', JOURNEY's 'Frontiers', and CYNDI LAUPER's 'She's So Unusual', just to name a few... he has worked with OZZY OSBOURNE, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS, IRON MAIDEN, DEEP PURPLE, KISS, THE OFFSPRING, THE CARS, COLDPLAY and countless others. In his nearly 40 years at Sterling Sound, he won three Grammy awards, most recently in 2011 for ARCADE FIRE's 'The Suburbs', which won 'Album Of The Year.' His talent, professionalism, attention to detail, and above all, true dedication to music, along with the mere fact that George was simply one of the nicest people we have ever met in anywhere in the music business, makes today a very sad one for everyone in the METALLICA family and he will be missed by all."

ANTHRAX: "R.I.P. George Marino. Any decent collection of heavy metal and hard rock will be full of records he mastered. He mastered 'I'm The Man', 'Volume 8', 'Return Of The Killer A's', 'We've Come For You All', and 'Anthrology'. It's also fun to say he mastered 'Master Of Puppets'."

Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX): "Where do I even begin when it comes to George Marino? I've sat with George on so many ANTHRAX records and watched and learned how a record is mastered. He made the long hours up at Sterling interesting and fun. I would leave there thinking we just did something great. With George, it was all for the music, He had a great set of ears! We lost a master craftsmen and a great man. I will miss him a lot!"

John Petrucci (DREAM THEATER): "So sad to hear about the passing of the great George Marino today. We have surely lost one of the last titans in the mastering world. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Keith Caputo (LIFE OF AGONY): "Peace and blessings to his family and thank you George for believing in me and my musical efforts! You will never be forgotten! Your contribution to music is incredible and out of this world! R.I.P. George!"

Josh Silver (TYPE O NEGATIVE): "One must always admire the skill and craftsmanship of someone who is at the top of their field. Even more admirable is when that person accomplishes this while maintaining an immeasurable amount of warmth and class. It was my privilege to be a part of the musical history that was George Marino. I'm certain he will be missed by all who knew him. The loss is ours."

Monte Conner (Senior VP A&R at Roadrunner Records): "I had the pleasure of working with George Marino on many of Roadrunner's all-time classic albums, such as SEPULTURA's 'Chaos A.D.' and 'Roots', TYPE O NEGATIVE's 'Bloody Kisses' and 'October Rust', LIFE OF AGONY's 'River Runs Red', SOUFLY"s debut and 'Primitive', and dozens of others. Not only was he an incredibly talented mastering engineer, but he was the nicest, kindest, most patient man you could ever meet. He put tremendous care into each and every record and is a guy who loved his job and took pride in his work. George was truly one of a kind. An irreplaceable talent and human being."

Brian Wheat (TESLA): "He was TESLA's guy. The fucking best there was and a great human. So so so sad."

KALEDON: "Today we lost one of the biggest legends in the mastering world — George Marino. He's not only a legend with an epic discography BUT one of the calmest and sweetest men on this planet."

Walter Ben Kendall Junior, father of founding GREAT WHITE guitarist Mark Kendall, has died at the age of 77.

Commented Mark: "I just want to take a moment to share with all of you what he meant to me as my father. Without the support system that he built within my family, I wouldn't be who I am today.

"When I was nine years old, my dad bought me my first guitar, which was an acoustic Spanish guitar. He noticed I didn't take the gift lightly, because I would play it every day for the next year. When it got close to Christmas, I told him I really wanted to get an electric guitar and an amp. He told me that he was sorry but that it had been a really rough year and that he didn't have the money to be able to afford to get me the guitar and amp. 'Maybe for your birthday,' he said. On Christmas morning, that year, I walked out to the Christmas tree and there my new guitar and amp sat. I'll never forget his smile. I was so surprised!

"My father grew up in a very musical family and was very skilled at playing the jazz trumpet. I am very lucky to have been his son, because without his musical background, I would not be where I am today. Not only did I have the gift of music in my blood, but my father was so supportive of my decisions when it came to music. I was always encouraged with such a great father in my corner.

"Growing up, I played baseball from the ages of seven to eighteen. Not one year went by that he wasn't either my coach or my team's manager. He would always brag to his friends about how many hitters I struck out, or home runs that I hit and I always took away confidence from my father which helped me build character over the years.

"I will never forget my dad. He means the world to me, and I am going to miss him very much. I am thankful to carry on his love for music, sports and the importance of family to my own children. I know he is at peace.

"I love you, dad!"

Mark Kendall's longtime GREAT WHITE bandmate, singer Jack Russell, has posted the following message on his Facebook page:

"I am very sad to hear of the passing of Mr. Wally Kendall, the father of my former bandmate Mark Kendall. His passing leaves a hole in my heart.

"I have known Wally since 1978, when Mark and I started playing together, and over the years he became part of the GREAT WHITE family.

"I had just sent an e-mail to Mark a few days ago wishing his father and family well, as I heard he was sick. I told him I had found numerous photos of his dad and us at the 'House Of Broken Love' video shoot, along with my mom and dad. Sadly, now both our families are gone.

"Wally Kendall was a wonderful man and an accomplished musician (horn player) in his own right. He had a great sense of humor and was great to have around.

"I have many fond memories of Mr. K, as I called him. He had a firm handshake and a warm smile and you could tell he was honestly glad to see you. He had bright blue eyes that glowed with pride when he watched us play, especially when he was watching his son Mark; he was so proud of him. I remember during concerts looking over and seeing our folks together watching the show, just beaming with love and pride for their kids. It was magical, and the memories I will always treasure.

"My heart goes out to Mark and his family as well as my prayers. As for Mr. K., I love ya and we'll meet again one day, God bless you and keep you."

"Welcome To The Freakshow", the new single from Swedish hard rockers FATAL SMILE, which was exclusively distributed in Sweden via Sweden Rock Magazine, was certified gold in that country by the International Federation Of The Phonographic Industry for sales in excess of 10,000 copies. (Note: Each copy of the magazine containing the CD sold in Sweden was counted towards the certification; the single itself was **not** sold separately.)

The members of FATAL SMILE were presented with "Welcome To The Freakshow" gold plaques at the Hard Rock Café in Stockholm (see photo of band with tour manager Ola Frankki below).

FATAL SMILE's new album, "21st Century Freaks", was released on May 14 via FS Records/GMR Music Group. The CD was produced by Mr. Y, engineered/recorded by Philty and mixed by the two of them together. The mastering duties were handled by Mats "Limpan" Lindfors at Cutting Room Studios.

After playing 350 shows internationally during their "World Domination Tour" with such bands as DIO, W.A.S.P., QUEENSRŸCHE, DORO and LORDI in support of their last album, "World Domination", FATAL SMILE spent over a year writing and recording songs for the follow-up effort. Entitled "21st Century Freaks", the new CD was recorded in the tour buses, hotel rooms and studios all over the world before eleven songs were singled out and re-recorded during 2011.

Ten top names tried out for the mixing job, all mixing the song planned as the second single of the album. The band put together a jury of friends to pick out their favorite mix, which turned out to be mix No. 5, not knowing it was mixed by FATAL SMILE's own drummer Philty and guitarist Mr. Y!

According to a press release, "this time [the bandmembers] have done everything on their own to make it the ultimate FATAL SMILE album, from recording and engineering to producing and mixing the album and the result is massive, with 'in-your-face' songs and a 'larger-than-life' sound!"

FATAL SMILE is:

LEANDER RISING, the Budapest, Hungary-based band featuring NEVERMORE guitarist Attila Vörös, will release its self-titled debut album in the U.S. on July 17. The 14-song CD heads straight for the adrenal gland focusing on melody coupled with passionate fury, combining blends of brutal riffs and punishing breakdowns with huge anthemic and driving melodies for an original sound that is all their own. Recorded in Hungary and mixed and mastered in Sweden by Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, GOD FORBID, KATATONIA, SOILWORK, KREATOR), with artwork by Robert Borbas (METALLICA, SUICIDE SILENCE, BRING ME THE HORIZON) and a guest appearance by Jeff Loomis (ex-NEVERMORE) on the track "Six Feet Under".

LEANDER RISING was originally intended as a solo project for its namesake Leander Köteles, but evolved into a full-fledged band when his first video for the song "Bound To Belong" created an Internet buzz throughout Hungary and caught the attention of Attila Vörös, a young and well-known guitarist who has also toured worldwide with Seattle metal band NEVERMORE. Attila reached out to Leander via e-mail and their collaboration began. In the beginning, Attila only came on to do some guest solos but as time went on they found their true sound was together.

While Attila was touring in the U.S. with NEVERMORE, Leander decided to cover and put his spin on LADY GAGA's "Bad Romance", which became the most viewed and successful video in the project's history at that time. Everybody is really positive about the situation and Patte has promised to help us if we still need a drummer for the shows to come and at the same time we are looking for a new drummer."

DIRGE ETERNAL recently completed work on the "Under The Spell" EP at Sound Supreme Studio in Hämeenlinna, Finland. In addition to playing lead guitar on the CD, Horma served as engineer and producer during the sessions.

Swedish Viking metallers KING OF ASGARD recently finished recording their second album, "…To North", at Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden with engineer Andy La Rocque (KING DIAMOND guitarist) at the helm. A July 30 release via Metal Blade Records is expected.

"…To North" track listing:

01. Intro
02. The Nine Worlds Burn
03. The Dispossessed
04. Gap of Ginnungs
05. Bound to Reunite
06. Nordvegr
07. Up on the Mountain
08. Plague-ridden Rebirth
09. Harvest (The End)
10. …to North
11. Vinterskugge (European digipack bonus track)

The song "The Nine Worlds Burn" can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.

"…To North" will feature two guest musicians. The band states: "First out is female vocalist Heléne Blad, who did a guest appearance on 'Fi'mbulvintr' as well. This time around she's present on the album opener, 'The Nine Worlds Burn', doing an epic folk inspired vocal part. She's been a longtime friend of the band and is a professionally schooled folk singer et cetera. She was also once, for a short while, the keyboardist of the KING OF ASGARD predecessor MITHOTYN. The second appearance on '…to North' presents the extremely talented guitarist Jimmy Hedlund. Yet another friend known from bands such as FALCONER and SUPREME MAJESTY. He shreds two guitar solos on the song 'Gap Of Ginnungs'. Least say, amazing stuff and truly breathtaking!"

The first in a series of video clips featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the "…To North" recording sessions can be seen below.

Comments bassist Jonas Albrektsson: "The '…To North' master sounds astonishing! Andy La Rocque made a great job on the production and the mastering along with Olof Berggren. It's upright and powerful. We feel very proud of what we achieved on this recording and merely the sound of it makes it a worthy follow-up to the firstborn 'Fi'mbulvintr'. Songs and sounds came out much as of what we planned, with power and a great variety. '…To North' takes off pretty much where 'Fi'mbulvintr' left off, so to say, with a natural development, more varied songs and structures. It's a development of our sound which will be recognized by old fans as well as bring some new ones to the horde. This time around I've been more involved in the writing process along with Karl, which kind of shines through, giving the songs a wider perspective. Expect some very strong songs on '…To North', where epic meets with brutality! The lyrical theme this time is basically in the same vein but has different twists. Not as obvious as before. '…To North' will make The Nine Worlds Burn… and Varberg was just left behind."

Songtitles set to appear on "…To North" include "Gap Of Ginnungs", "Plague-Ridden Rebirth", "Nordvegr", "Upon The Mountain" and "The Nine Worlds Burn".

"…To North" is the first KING OF ASGARD album to feature second guitar player Lars Tängmark.

KING OF ASGARD is:

Karl Beckman - Vocals/Guitars
Lars Tängmark - Guitars
Jonas Albrektsson – Bass
Karsten Larsson – Drums

No Sleep Records has announced the signing of San Francisco-based metal quintet EARLY GRAVES. The band will enter the studio in July to record its third full-length album for a fall release.

EARLY GRAVES formed in the Bay Area in early 2008 and released two full-length albums, "We: The Guillotine" (2008) and "Goner" (2010), on Metal Blade Records' Ironclad imprint. The band's sound has been described as a mixture of old-school Swedish death metal and American hardcore punk and has drawn comparisons to NAPALM DEATH, CARCASS, TRAGEDY and TESTAMENT, among others.

In the summer of 2010, tragedy struck when EARLY GRAVES was involved in a van accident, which resulted in the death of singer Makh Daniels. After about a year of contemplation, the band decided to continue on, with close friend, John Strachan, of THE FUNERAL PYRE (who were in the same van during the accident) stepping in for Daniels.

The band reconvened with Strachan helming vocals at last summer's Power Of The Riff festivals in Los Angeles and San Francisco alongside PELICAN, PENTAGRAM and more. Since then, the band has battered the western half of the U.S., appearing at Scion's Metal Matinee series with the CRO-MAGS and performing with such bands as NASUM, GHOUL, RINGWORM and CANCER BATS.

In early 2012 EARLY GRAVES began writing and recording demos for their follow-up to "Goner" and first with Strachan.

"After enduring every shitstorm the proverbial 'universe' can throw at us for last few years, we are extremely excited to be releasing our new batch of burners on No Sleep Records," says guitarist Chris Brock. "No Sleep Records may not seem like a likely landing spot for a band like us, but Chris and No Sleep release music that they care about and want to work with, which is something we can definitely get behind.

"I won't bore with you with a 'our new album sounds like mixed with this mixed with that' or 'it's heavier, faster, more melodic' bullshit, but I will say that we are happy to be releasing it with a label that likes it as much as we do."

Adds No Sleep Recordspresident Chris Hansen: "I am really excited to finally announce and welcome EARLY GRAVES to the family. These guys bring an amazing blend of death metal and hardcore/punk to the table, and I could not be happier to have them as our first metal band. Look for their No Sleep debut LP out this fall."

Spanish metal band DOPPLER has inked a deal with Mighty Music. The group's debut album, "Apophenia: I Error", will be released on August 27.

According to a press release, "Apophenia: Type I Error" is "an album based on low tuned riffs and complex polyrhythms, which could easily be related to genres like djent or math metal." The CD was recorded at Sadmen Studios (ADRIFT, HUMAN MINCER, HAMLET) and mastered by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios (HEAVEN SHALL BURN, RAUNCHY, ABORTED). The result is eight tracks whose lyrical concept deals with the different phases of a tortured schizophrenias mind, moving through different episodes that feature different feelings from hilarious conditions to surreal abstractions.

DOPPLER emerged in 2003 when Rafa, Dani and Gago got together in order to give free rein to their concerns and create music that shows their eclectic range of influences, which involve disparate elements such as metal, rock and even industrial music. Years passed by until Albano Fortes (BODY ON SECTIONS, ex-HYBRID) in early 2008 joined as their definitive frontman, contributing with his interest for more extreme sounds, and completing what still is the actual lineup. After this, the band spent a long time in their rehearsal studio rearranging their old stuff and writing new tunes, developing their sound and finally achieving their trademark sound.

"Apophenia: I Error" track listing:

01. Pareidolia
02. Asynchronous Forms
03. Eyes Attending the Detail
04. Internal Sensorial Reality
05. The Delivery and the Giant

07. Falling Part II: The Descent
08. Falling Part III: The Current

Hardcore/metal veterans VISION OF DISORDER (a.k.a. V.O.D.) have completed work on their new album, "The Cursed Remain Cursed" for a tentative September release via Candlelight Records. The CD was produced by Will Putney (SHADOWS FALL, SUICIDE SILENCE, FOUR YEAR STRONG) and was mixed by Cameron Webb (MOTÖRHEAD, SOCIAL DISTORTION, IGNITE, PENNYWISE). Mastering duties were handled by Alan Douches at West West Side Music in New Windsor, New York.

In an interview with Terrorizer magazine, VISION OF DISORDER frontman Tim Williams stated about the band's new CD, "This record is vintage V.O.D., but we've all grown as musicians and individuals since the last stuff we released. It's pretty diverse. You've got songs like 'Blood Red Sun' that are among the most forward-thinking, progressive things we've ever done, while still being real vicious — but there are some straight-up numbers too, like 'Hard Times' and 'Loveless'. Lyrically, it's coming from a pretty dark place, falling into the pits of one's own personal hell, and having to crawl out or die down there, plus there's some more political stuff, too. This has been a long time in the making and we just went with what felt right."

VISION OF DISORDER recently filmed a video for the song "Set To Fail", which is expected to be the first single from "The Cursed Remain Cursed".

Regarding the musical direction of VISION OF DISORDER's new material, bassist Mike Fleischmann previously told Greg Prato of UGO, "The songs are what you would expect from V.O.D. — very aggressive and melodic. We really feel that on these new songs we have kind of mixed up all of our past efforts into a blender with a dash of new flavor, and we are excited to see what V.O.D. fans will think of it."

VISION OF DISORDER's current lineup includes singer Tim Williams, guitarists Matt Baumbach and Mike Kennedy, Fleischmann and drummer Brendon Cohen.

The band's last studio album, "From Bliss to Devastation", came out in 2001 via TVT Records.

VISION OF DISORDER toured with some of metal's biggest names during the late 1990s — including PANTERA, BLACK SABBATH, TYPE O NEGATIVE, ANTHRAX and BAD BRAINS — before calling it quits in 2001, and then reuniting in 2008.

When singer Per "Dead" Ohlin of Norwegian black metal pioneers MAYHEM committed suicide in April 1991, it was widely reported that the band's founding guitarist Euronymous — who discovered the body — made necklaces from pieces of the skull.

Dead's suicide became the stuff of black metal legend. Euronymous reportedly took several pictures of the body and allegedly sent one of the pictures to the owner of Warmaster Records in Colombia, who then used it as the cover of the bootleg live album "Dawn Of The Black Hearts", released in 1995.

During Loudwire's recent interview with MARDUK's Morgan Steinmeyer Håkansson, the guitarist confirmed that he does indeed possess a piece of Dead's skull a s well as lead fragments from the bullet which killed Dead and a piece of his brain matter.

"Yeah, sure," Morgan confirmed. "I got it way back, right after he died. Back in those days they [MAYHEM] were living in a house and didn't have the best financial aspects, so they didn't even have a telephone. So I remember I was celebrating New Year's in 1991 with Dead back home in Sweden. Then he got back, he wrote one letter [to me], then someone told me he's killed himself."

Morgan continued, "So I wrote a letter [to MAYHEM] and then I got the reply back from the guitar player [Euronymous] — 'Well he just shot himself and here's a piece of his skull.' It was a shotgun, you know? So [he also sent me] two pieces of the lead and a piece of the wet brain. I've still got it. I keep it well protected. . . He sent it to all these former comrades of Dead. A few of them. There were not that many people … maybe five."

Acclaimed drummer Sean Reinert (CYNIC, DEATH) suffered a ruptured achilles tendon several days ago while training for the "Death To All Tour 2012" in benefit of Sweet Relief. This five-city trek, which will feature a majority of DEATH's amazing musicians, will celebrate the life and music of Chuck Schuldiner, as well as to raise awareness of Sweet Relief Musicians Fund — a charity that provides financial assistance to career musicians faced with illness, disability or age-related problems.

Reinert, who has had the necessary surgery and has started rehabilitation, will remain a drummer on the tour, but to what extent depends on his progress. Gene Hoglan (TESTAMENT, FEAR FACTORY, DETHKLOK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DEATH, DARK ANGEL) and tour drum tech Danny Walker (INTRONAUT, EXHUMED) will also be on the team to help make the most of the situation.

Commented Sean: "This is a horrible injury. The pain has been off the charts, but I think it's meant to be. I think the grand plan here is to use this as an example for a reason to raise awareness and have an outlet for musicians in need.

"Although I am devastated that I can't perform at 110 percent, I am grateful that my injury is a minor one (one that will heal over time) and still allows me to be a part if this wonderful tour and cause."

According to the organizers, "There will be guest appearances in each city and some cities may have more than one surprise in store. You never know when or where these guests will be showing up, but you can expect to be seeing the following musicians somewhere on the tour."

* Richard Christy (CHARRED WALLS OF THE DAMNED, DEATH, ICED EARTH)
* Alex Skolnick (TESTAMENT)
* Chuck Billy (TESTAMENT)
* Paul Ryan (ORIGIN)
* Craig Locicero (FORBIDDEN)
* Travis Ryan (CATTLE DECAPITATION)
* Trevor Strnad (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER)
* Ryan Knight (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER)
* Emil Werstler (DAATH, CHIMAIRA)

On bass will be Steve DiGiorgio ("Human", "Individual Thought Patterns") and Scott Clendenin ("The Sound Of Perseverance"). Guitar duties will be shared by Paul Masvidal ("Human"), Shannon Hamm ("The Sound of Perseverance") and Bobby Koelble ("Symbolic"). The vocals will be taken care of by Steffen Kummerer of OBSCURA and Charles Elliott of ABYSMAL DAWN and BEREFT.

The dates are as follows (opening act listed in parenthesis):

June 22 - The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco, CA (GORGUTS)
June 23 - House of Blues – West Hollywood, CA (GORGUTS)
June 26 - House of Blues - Chicago, IL (GORGUTS)

June 30 - The Beacham - Orlando, FL (ATHEIST)
July 01 - The Masquerade - Atlanta, GA (ATHEIST)

"Liar In Wait", the long-awaited new album from AMON — the resurrected Florida-based death metal band featuring former DEICIDE members Eric Hoffmann (guitar) and Brian Hoffman (guitar) alongside Jesse "Jecheal" Jolly (PROMETHEAN HORDE, DIABOLIC, SUCCESS WILL WRITE APOCALYPSE ACROSS THE SKY, AFTER DEATH) on vocals/bass and Mike Petrak (LEPROSY, SUCCESS WILL WRITE APOCALYPSE ACROSS THE SKY) on drums — has finally been made available via CDBaby.com.

The track listing for the effort is as follows:

01. Among Us (4:45)
02. Eye Of The Infinite (4:17)
03. Lash Thy Tongue And Vomit Lies (3:56)
04. Liar In Wait (4:22)
05. Reaching For Flesh (2:59)
06. Semblance Of Man (5:14)
07. Sentience And Sapience (3:26)
08. Spat Forth From The Darkness (3:33)
09. Wraith Of Gaia (3:20)

"Liar In Wait" was recorded and mixed at RedRoom Recorders in Tampa with producer Mark Prator.

<AMON's music video for the song "Among Us" was filmed on October 22, 2011 in Clearwater, Florida with director Chris Nemzek (former CROSSBREED guitarist).

In a an interview with U.K.'s Terrorizer magazine, Eric stated about the decision to bring AMON back from the dead, "We were actually going to use the [DEICIDE] name [for the new band], but [DEICIDE members Glen Benton and Steve Asheim] got on the bandwagon faster than us. "They basically took the name, and Glen writes all the lyrics, so the kids are familiar with that, but in the beginning we hired Glen, and we wrote most of the music. So we had to go out and find a singer, which was pretty difficult at the time."

When asked about the musical direction of AMON, Eric said, "[The music's] a little bit more technical than the DEICIDE stuff. It's not too intricate, so it's still catchy at the same time. You'll still have a couple of classic DEICIDE beginnings, and then it'll go into some killer technical, in-your-face shit."

AMON recorded two demos — 1987's "Feasting The Beast" and 1989's "Sacrifical" — before signing with Roadrunner Records and changing its name to DEICIDE. After producing two extremely successful albums as DEICIDE, the band chose to make the AMON demos available on CD in 1993 under the title "Amon: Feasting The Beast".

The Hoffman brothers parted ways with DEICIDE in 2004 after becoming embroiled in a bitter dispute with DEICIDE bassist/vocalist Glen Benton over royalties and publishing issues.
