Lark in the Morning used to have these in their catalog. IIRC, they are free-reed instruments with valves before the reed, like a melodica or the Chinese sheng.
i love the matching hats in the second to last picture. and it looks like the guy in the sombrero in that picture has stuck a kazoo onto the spout of a watering can!
