wow, thats not good.

A friend of mine went over to London in the 70s and was shocked that a lot of the pubs were private, and the ones that werent, closed by 10 pm.

Is it still like that?

Unfortunately Howldog.....not much! London is worse affected as the local councils have imposed an extremely costly Entertainment Licence on venues including pubs, clubs, theatres which also have to meet a very demanding safety standard, and punish heavily if sound levels are exceeded or rules flouted.

I've played a million places that looked like that. Pretty much retired now.

Whats happening in Britain to replace these pubs?

For any non-brits here in the group (and I believe there maybe a few) here is an example of what the British Pub Entertainment scene is like. The clip is self explanatory regarding the performers, and you may not know the players ex bands either they they were fairly big names in their day. Sadly pubs like this one The Red Lion in Isleworth, Middlesex are becoming fewer and fewer.
