METALLICA recently announced the creation of the Orion Music + More festival, a new music, arts, and lifestyle festival founded and headlined by the band. The event will take place June 23-24 at Bader Field in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Much to the surprise of many fans, the festival will feature a diverse range of music and not focus exclusively on metal and heavy rock. Drummer Lars Ulrich told The Pulse Of Radio why the band made this choice. "This whole thing is kind of based more around the classic festivals that we've been playing in Europe for the better part of the last 25, 30 years, which is really about diversity and really about kind of many, many different musical experiences," he said. "So that's kind of what we're going for. Now whether anybody buys into that or not, we'll find out, but there's gonna be lots and lots of cool, heavy stuff, trust me."

Acts like ARCTIC MONKEYS, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, MODEST MOUSE, THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM, CAGE THE ELEPHANT, BEST COAST, GARY CLARK JR. , LUCERO, ROKY ERICKSON, THE SWORD and others are either already on board or being confirmed in the coming weeks.

Ulrich told The Pulse Of Radio that the show will feature a tent devoted to smaller, up-and-coming thrash and punk acts.

Orion Music + More will feature multiple live music stages plus a lifestyle element that reflects the personal interests of each member of METALLICA.

The band will headline both nights, playing 1991's self-titled "black album" in its entirety one night and 1984's "Ride The Lightning" the other. This will be the only time the band will perform these albums in North America in 2012.

MEGADETH was among the nominees for the 54th annual Grammy Awards, which was held on February 12 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The band's tenth Grammy nomination was for its new single, "Public Enemy No. 1", off MEGADETH's latest album, "TH1RT3EN", which came out on November 1, 2011.

"Public Enemy No. 1" actually marked the second Grammy nomination for music from "TH1RT3EN", as the song "Sudden Death" was first unveiled in the 2010 video game "Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock" and received a "Best Metal Performance" nod.

MOTÖRHEAD, the hardest-working, hardest-touring band in the world, loves when fans buy its records, but not this time. A new box set, called "Complete Early Years Box Set", has just come out by the company who has the rights to the band's early recordings, and some retail outlets are allegedly charging over $600 for it!

"Unfortunately, greed once again rears its yapping head," says iconic frontman Lemmy Kilmister. "I would advise against it even for the most rabid completists!"

MOTÖRHEAD has no control over what's done with these early songs, and doesn't want fans to think that the band is involved in putting out such a costly box set.

MOTÖRHEAD do have a great new record and DVD out, (CD is "The Wörld Is Yours" and DVD is "The Wörld Is Ours-Vol 1 - Everywhere Further Than Everyplace Else"), and the band hopes fans will choose these new releases over this outrageously expensive box set.

HEADCAT (formerly THE HEAD CAT) — the high-energy, "take-no-prisoners" combo featuring Lemmy Kilmister (MOTÖRHEAD), Slim Jim Phantom (THE STRAY CATS) and Danny B. Harvey (ROCKATS, 13 CATS, LONESOME SPURS) — will play a rare show on March 17 at The Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, California.

The latest HEADCAT album, "Walk The Walk...Talk The Talk", sold around 700 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD debuted at No. 49 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Walk The Walk...Talk The Talk" was released on July 5, 2011 through Niji Entertainment Group, the record label Wendy Dio and her and late husband Ronnie James Dio formed before his untimely passing.

HEADCAT was formed in 2000 after recording an Elvis Presley tribute special to which all band members contributed.

Slim Jim Phantom (drums, percussion), was born in Brooklyn and listened to his parents' jazz records. At the age of ten he took up the drums although he always says that the drums chose him. He is an exceptional drummer who cemented his place among rock royalty long time ago and inspires and excites audiences worldwide.

Danny B. Harvey (guitar, piano) is Texas-born and also discovered his love for music very early. He started playing the guitar at the age of six and even got a full scholarship to study classical guitar. He developed a finger picking guitar style that's very unique and based on his idols Merle Travis and Chet Atkins but also a result of his classical-technique education.

Lemmy Kilmister (vocals, bass, harmonica) was born and raised in England and started to play the guitar at the age of sixteen. With a laughing eye he always said that he only took the guitar to impress the girls. He is an autodidact and changed early to bass as he stated he wasn't a good guitar player. After founding MOTÖRHEAD in 1975 he knows the ups and downs in the business and has reached the status of an icon all over the world.

Twelve fantastic songs for "Walk The Walk, Talk The Talk" were chosen easily. HEADCAT prepare to take over the airwaves with their first single, "American Beat". "American Beat" is a song written in the studio — Lemmy had the words and the rest came together very quickly. "I Ain't Never" is one of the songs Lemmy really likes and Danny knew it — a real country, rockabilly number, full of love and ready to take you drifting away. "Let It Rock" is one of their favorite Chuck Berry tunes — THE ROLLING STONES did it a lot in their live show in the '70s — HEADCAT plays a different version. "Something Else" is a classic Eddie CochranLemmy came on stage with the STRAY CATS and jammed on it at a show in the '90s at Hammersmith Odeon so it came quite natural to take this on the record as well.

Deanna Adler, the mother of original GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler, will release her long-awaited tell-all book, "Sweet Child Of Mine: How I Lost My Son to Guns N' Roses" (formerly "No Bed Of Roses"), on April 5 via 4th Street Media.

Deanna gives an honest and revealing look into a life beset by abuse and betrayal and what it was like raising a child who became a member of one of the greatest rock bands in history, and a heroin addict of equally epic proportions. The book emotionally and enthrallingly details a mother's love for her infamous son, whose phenomenal success is surpassed only by his astounding capacity for self-destruction.

"Sweet Child Of Mine" is the universal journey of a mother's devotion to her child, filled with moments of both profound joy and crippling heartache. Deanna takes readers on a roller coaster ride through raising a troubled young boy who ultimately reached the pinnacle of fame and success, only to then be publicly branded a junkie and kicked out of his band in front of a television audience of millions; go on to endure continuing addiction, legal battles, financial ruin, two heart attacks, multiple suicide attempts, a debilitating stroke, and numerous stints in rehab. But it is her courage and indomitable spirit that both educates and inspires, as she is living proof that devotion to family, a sense of humor, and faith in a higher power are the foundations for achieving peace and purpose in life.

The long-awaited new album from U.S. doom legends SAINT VITUS, "Lillie: F-65", will hit the stores in Europe on April 27 via Season Of Mist. Due to "manufacturing issues," the CD wil be released in North America in May.

"Lillie: F-65" track listing:

01. Let Them Fall
02. The Bleeding Ground
03. Vertigo
04. Blessed Night
05. The Waste of Time
06. Dependence
07. Withdrawal

In the meantime, SAINT VITUS will release a seven-inch single featuring "Blessed Night", a track from "Lillie: F-65". The B-side is a live version of classic VITUS tune "Look Behind You", recorded in December 2010 at Z7 in Pratteln, Switzerland.

Due on March 23, the "Blessed Night" seven-inch single is limited to 1,000 hand-numbered copies. Pre-order it at this location.

Speaking to Terrorizer magazine, SAINT VITUS frontman Scott "Wino" Weinrich stated about the band's new album title, "Y'know the reason we called it 'Lillie: F-65'? It was a powerful downer back in our day and well, Dave [Chandler, guitar] really had a thing for his downers."

SAINT VITUS' current lineup features Chandler, drummer Henry Vasquez, bassist Mark Adams and Weinrich.

"Making this album was really a blast," said Chandler. "Being able to live in an environment where all we had to concentrate on was the new material, became very inspiring. And along with our new drummer, Henry Vasquez, and label, Season Of Mist, this record has given us a new opportunity to show everyone that we still have more to shove in your face."

When asked why he thinks SAINT VITUS' music continues to resonate, Wino said in an interview, "Because it comes from the gut. The music has that low tone and it hits you in those emotional places. I've always tried to make the lyrics just as interesting as the music. It's always been a little bit dark but I'm not drawn to the happy stuff. I like music that grabs you by the balls."

The Tracii Guns version of L.A. GUNS will embark on a European headlining tour in early March. According to Tracii, "this tour will be the last L.A. GUNS tour for now and also it's a tour to break in my new band THE TRACII GUNS LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN, so we will be doing a complete L.A. GUNS set and possibly one new LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN song. After this tour, it will be LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN for the rest of the year."

The L.A. GUNS lineup for the European tour will be as follows:

Tracii Guns - Guitar
Scott Foster Harris - Vocals
Eric Grossman - Bass
Doni Gray - Drums

For a complete list of tour dates, go to this location.

L.A. GUNS in December parted ways with Dilana Robichaux a mere 71 days after announcing the former "Rock Star: Supernova" reality-TV show contestant as its new singer.

Tracii started L.A. GUNS while still in high school in 1982. The original singer, Michael Jagosz, was replaced by Axl Rose. Signed to PolyGram in '87, the band's self-titled debut, with Phil Lewis replacing Rose, sold over a million copies, as did "Cocked and Loaded" (1989) and "Hollywood Vampires" (1991).

Tracii Guns' L.A. GUNS is not to be confused with the Phil Lewis-led version of the group, which is also continuing to record and perform under the L.A. GUNS moniker.

Swedish hard rockers EUROPE will release their ninth studio album, "Bag Of Bones", on April 27 via earMusic/Edel. The CD was produced by Kevin Shirley, who has previously worked with IRON MAIDEN, JOE BONAMASSA, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, BLACK STONE CHERRY and JOURNEY, among others.

The "Bag Of Bones" cover artwork can now be seen below.

Regarding the new CD title, EUROPE drummer Ian Haugland said, "It's not [called 'Bag Of Bones'] because we all have lost tons of weight or found a new interest in archeology or dogs... It's just because it sounds fuckin' cool!"

In a July 2011 press release, EUROPE singer Joey Tempest stated about the band's new CD, "We still feel we have one hell of a rock record to make. Kevin's the man for the job. We love his work with BONAMASSA, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, and BLACK STONE CHERRY. He's the real deal. We're ready to do some serious damage."

Last year, EUROPE met up with Shirley in Stockholm to discuss the direction of the next album. Based on reactions from the fans and media, EUROPE's 2009 album, "Last Look At Eden", proved to be the band's most important record since "The Final Countdown". "I've been a big fan of EUROPE's work for many years," said Shirley. "The band is influential and highly underrated. I can't wait to make the upcoming album their most explosive to date."

The new material suggests a more straightforward rock approach evident in "Doghouse" — a new song EUROPE performed on their most recent U.K. tour (see video below). The song is also featured on EUROPE's "Europe: Live at Shepherd's Bush" DVD, released in August 2011 via earMUSIC CDs and DVDs.

earMUSIC last year released a limited deluxe book with pictures by Denis O'Regan. "Live Look At Eden" features exclusive live audio and the stunning performance at 2010's iTunes Festival in London.

CHICKENFOOT will embark on the "Different Devil Tour" in the spring. Support on the trek will come from BLACK STONE CHERRY.

"III" was produced by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, METALLICA) and is the much-anticipated follow-up album to the successful eponymous debut of a rock band packed with successful veterans.

Featuring guitar hero Joe Satriani and former VAN HALEN members Michael Anthony (bass) and Sammy Hagar (vocals), CHICKENFOOT's touring lineup includes legendary drummer/musician Kenny Aronoff, who is filling in for Chad Smith while Smith hits the road with his main band, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.
Donnie Vie — the songwriter and the voice behind ENUFF Z'NUFF — will release his new solo album, "Wrapped Around My Middle Finger", in Europe on March 5 via Livewire/Cargo Records.

Donnie consistently amazes with the quality of his output. Outgrowing the "BEATLES-esque" tag and the "glam" label many years ago, Donnie continues to deliver with a new found enthusiasm. Vocals, guitar, keyboards and much much more... a one-man powerhouse of a talent.

One of the most gifted yet underrated songwriters of our generation, Donnie Vie is best known as the main songwriter and voice of '90s pop sensations ENUFF Z'NUFF. Their Atlantic Records debut spawned the hits "Fly High Michelle" and "New Thing", regular favourites on MTV's "Dial MTV" and both of which charted in Billboard's Top 50. Over their 25-year career, ENUFF Z'NUFF has produced a discography of 16 international releases, been invited and played on "Late Night With David Letterman" (two times), become Howard Stern's favorite band and toured the world over and over again.

2012 brings us THE DONNIE VIE BAND, an ambitious quartet led by Mr. Vie. The group's live show sees them playing deep cuts from the entire ENUFF Z'NUFF catalogue, as well as songs from Donnie's solo releases.

The original lineup of Texan thrash metal veterans RIGOR MORTISMike Scaccia (guitar), Casey Orr (bass), Harden Harrison (drums), and Bruce Corbitt (vocals) — has finished laying down 10 new songs for the band's first album since 1991's "Rigor Mortis Vs. The Earth". The group recorded the new CD at 13th Planet Studios in El Paso, Texas, home to MINISTRY and BUCK SATAN AND THE 666 SHOOTERS. Production duties were handled by Sammy D'Ambruoso and MINISTRY mainman Al Jourgensen.

Commented Orr: "Expect a brutally fast, sick and twisted record. We're not fucking around."

The RIGOR MORTIS members have been feverishly writing new material in between other projects. Scaccia and Orr recently contributed songs to the upcoming MINISTRY record, "Relapse", and are gearing up for the "Defibrillatour" this summer. Corbitt has been busy touring with his band, WARBEAST, most recently in support of the mighty GWAR. Harrison was recently in the studio recording with his band MITRA.

The return of RIGOR MORTIS has been a long time coming. Though the band has reunited for a handful of shows over the last several years, schedules and personal lives just wouldn't allow for the time and commitment necessary for the band to properly reemerge with new material and a determination to take RIGOR to the next level.

RIGOR MORTIS lineup:

Mike Scaccia - Guitar
Casey Orr - Bass/Vocals
Harden Harrison - Drums
Bruce Corbitt - Vocals

Los Angeles cyber metallers FEAR FACTORY have finished mixing their new album, "The Industrialist", with Greg Reely (PARADISE LOST, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, SKINNY PUPPY) at a studio in Canada. Due this summer in Europe via AFM Records and in the U.S. through Candlelight, the CD was once again co-produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, PARADISE LOST), with additional tracking by Logan Mader (DEVILDRIVER, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, SOULFLY).

FEAR FACTORY recently enlisted Matt DeVries as the band's new bass player. DeVries, previously of CHIMAIRA (where he played guitar) and most recently SIX FEET UNDER, joined FEAR FACTORY as the replacement for Byron Stroud (now with 3 INCHES OF BLOOD).

Cazares and vocalist Burton C. Bell commented: "We are very excited to have Matt playing bass for FEAR FACTORY. We feel he is a great addition to our touring lineup. He has been a friend for a very long time and he is a great musician who will be a perfect instrument in the FF machine."

DeVries added: "I have been asked by Dino and Burton to join one of my favorite bands. I have been a fan of FEAR FACTORY since 1992 and I could not be more excited to be part of this incredible band. We have shared the stage many times together and now I'm beyond stoked to be on the same stage playing together. Thank you to all my fans worldwide for sticking by me and I will be seeing you all on the road very soon."

FEAR FACTORY's most recent touring lineup featured original FF members Dino Cazares (guitar) and Burton C. Bell (vocals) alongside Stroud (who was credited on the last three FEAR FACTORY albums in addition to touring and recording with STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and ZIMMERS HOLE) and legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (DETHKLOK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DARK ANGEL, DEATH, TESTAMENT).

Canadian Metal heroes 3 Inches of Blood are getting ready to
release their latest album Long Live Heavy Metal to the masses.  I
recently caught up with 3iOB guitarist Shane Clark in a rare moment at
home and out of the studio.  Shane was awesome and really took the time
to discuss the band’s latest masterpiece, the new addition of Byron
Stroud on bass guitar and just what the story behind Long Live Heavy Metal is.
It was a blast catching up with Shane and I hope you’ll enjoy this one!
Shane, thanks for doing this!
Don!  Thank you man.  It’s good to talk to you again.  This is
perfect timing to do an interview.  The new album cycle is just about to start.
 This is actually the first piece of press I’ve done for the new record so
this is cool.
=====================================
You guys are just about to release Long Live Heavy Metal.  Have you seen a
significant growth in the band since your last album Here Awaits Thy Doom?
Yeah. Totally.  I took a listen to Here Awaits Thy Doom and
to me it sounds like we’ve come so far since that record as songwriters
and as players.  One thing I hear personally is just growth in the
songwriting and growth in the playing and just as a band.  This is the
first time that the same lineup has done two records and you can hear
the growth of the four guys who did the last record doing this one.
=====================================
As you said, this is the 2nd album you’ve done with a stable, cohesive line
up.  Did this make things much easier for you than on
past albums with the various line up changes?
Oh yes definitely.  All the other records all felt like a first time
thing because there were line up changes.  On the last album Ash
(Peterson; drummer) had just joined the band that year and we were still getting
to know Ash as a drummer.  We went through all of the growing
pains with this line up on the last record so now that we have nearly a
solid two years of touring together and playing these songs, this album
came very quickly.  We wrote and recorded this one in a pretty short
period of time.
=====================================
Was the recording process any different this time around?
Yeah.  We took a very different approach to this one.  I would say that Here
Awaits Thy Doom was a little more lo-fi than the previous two album.  I would
say that Long Live Heavy Metal is a lot closer to the two albums before Here
Awaits They Doom.  It’s very crisp and it’s fucking huge sounding.  This
album is
definitely Cam Pipes’ (lead vocalist) best recorded performance to date.
 It’s unbelievable.  When you listen to this new album you’re going to
be totally blown away.  Everyone is playing better.  With every album
you hope to get better and I really think we have and you can definitely hear
it.
=====================================
How much quicker did this one come together for you?
We spent less time writing.  The songs came to us really fast and we
were just so stoked at how the songs were coming together.  We just
bashed out a bunch of songs and picked the best ones that fit together,
rehearsed the fuck out of them and just hit the studio.  That’s the key.
 It’s also very economical to do it that way.  I remember Lemmy saying
years ago about recording , “Don’t waste your money and write in the
studio.  Write an album, rehearse the fuck out if and spend minimal time in the
studio recording it.† That’s the template that we’ve been
working with for a long time.
=====================================
I would also think that writing outside of the studio is much less stressful to
since you’re not worrying about working on a budget
or losing a bunch of money.
Yeah.  That’s a horrible feeling.  That feeling is the most
anti-creative feeling.  When you’re pressed for time and people are
breathing down your neck to finish being creative that’s the worst
feeling ever.  That’s a recipe for not liking your record or having a
bunch of songs that make you say, “I wish I would’ve spent more time on
that.â€
=====================================
Speaking of solidifying a line up, you guys also announced
recently that you’ve recruited Byron Stroud as your new bassist.  What
took you guys so long to find a full time bassist?
We’ve had a few bass players where the touring thing was just a bit
heavy for them and they basically had to change their life to try and
make it work.  We just don’t have the time to break someone in who’s
green to the scene.  We needed somebody who’s at our level and a life.
 We had a few righteous dudes play bass over the last couple of years.
 One guy in particular almost made it but he decided that he didn’t want to
do a whole other album cycle and tour.  I’ve known Byron for many
years for like 12 or 13 years.  I used to tech for Strapping Young Lad
(Devin Townsend’s band) and that’s how I got to know him well.  He
actually filled in for us about two years ago on the Slipknot tour.
 He’s is just a full blown Heavy Metal bass player and that’s the kind
of guy we need.  He’s not inexperienced with being in a band and what
that means.
=====================================
So who did the bass playing on Long Live Heavy Metal?
Me and Justin actually played all the bass on this one.  We split it
up about 50/50.  We’re actually both bass players so we know the
difference between a guitar player playing bass and a bass player.
=====================================
So the new album is called Long Live Heavy Metal.  Would you say that the title
is a nod to not just Heavy Metal in general but to Rainbow’s Long Live Rock
N’ Roll?
We feel really strongly about Heavy Metal.  The title was inspired hugely by
Rainbow’s Long Live Rock N’ Roll album.  Justin (Hagberg; guitarist) and I
listen that record on the
road a lot and it’s one of our favorites.  Justin came up with the title Long
Live Heavy Metal.  We thought we should call the album
that because we find ourselves to be purveyors of straight up Heavy
Metal and keeping the torch lit.  We made a righteous heavy metal record and
instead of having that competitive vibe of who’s band is the best
or whatever, it’s just about long living heavy metal.  It’s a very
positive title because it’s just about celebrating metal and living it
up.
=====================================
Let’s talk about the cover art for the Long Live Heavy Metal.  That also
looks like an homage to another great classic Metal albumAt War With Satan by
Venom.  Am I reading too much into it?
No man.  You’re on the right track.  Somebody else brought that up to me
about a week ago.  What we wanted to do for the album cover was to
have the band’s two main “icons†we use with the band as a brand.  One
is the number 3 with a circle around it and the other is the goat head
because of our song “Goatrider’s Horde.† If we were going to have a
record in a store and if you saw it from far away you’re wouldn’t see
the fantasy painting type of thing as much as you would see a brand.
 That’s who we are so we wanted to keep it simple.  Everyone who knows
the band knows that those are the things that people identify with.
=====================================
You guys were dropped from Roadrunner Records and were pretty much free agents
for a while before signing with Century Media.  Do you still feel like you have
that creative freedom and what not with out
the label intervening too much?
Absolutely.  Other labels we’ve worked with in the past have just
been a business but we feel really at home with Century Media.  Century
Media doesn’t interfere one bit with anything creative.  They’ve been
around a long time being just a straight up Heavy Metal label so they
know the deal.  They’re not in the studio pressuring us for a single or
anything.  They understand what our band is all about and they just
leave us to it which is fucking awesome.  We’ve had a lot of great
support from them since we’ve started working together.
=====================================
When is Long Live Heavy Metal going to be released?
March 26th in Europe, March 27th in the States, and Australia/New
Zealand on March 30th.  That’s when the shit gets real man [laughs].
The face of metal really has changed these days right down to the image.  Some
of these bands like Avenged Sevenfold that call
themselves “metal†these days are so far from it.  The music they’re
making is so far off the mark.
That’s the new school glam right?  I’m aware of them obviously but I
don’t really have much of an opinion because I just don’t care enough
about it [laughs].  Today’s Avenged Sevenfold was yesterday’s Motley
Crue.  In the 80’s there were all kinds of bands where the singer was
the focal point of the band and the look of the band really sold record.  That
shit has always been around and that’s fine.  You can’t have one
without the other.  That is something that is so far removed from what
we are about or where we’re coming from.
=====================================
3 Inches of Blood is going to be part of the Metal Alliance
tour.  Are there any other tours lined up that will hopefully bring you
guys to Atlanta?
Right after the Metal Alliance Tour we’re going to go to Europe.
 Things are just being figured out right now so I can’t give you
anything really solid right now.  We’re definitely going to do our own
tour in the states that’s for sure and we’ll definitely come to Atlanta.
 Atlanta is great for us and we have really awesome fans there.
=====================================
I’d love to see you guys and Holy Grail launch some sore of
“new traditional metal†tour or something.  Have you guys ever thought
about trying to put a package tour like that together?
We’ve done quite a few shows with Holy Grail over the years but we
haven’t thought too much of doing that kind of a package tour.  I do
think that’s a cool ideal but we’re fans of diversity when it comes to
touring.  For instance, I’ve seen some really cool old school Death
Metal bands here in Vancouver on a package tour with six other Death
Metal bands that sound just like the headliner and it’s a little
counterproductive.
=====================================
Shane, now it’s time for me to throw some fun questions at
you.  I just like to do these kind of questions to try and get to know
someone a bit better.
Sure thing man.  Let’s do it.
=====================================
If 3 Inches of Blood were able to headline arenas, what would you’re stage set
look like?
Oh man.  Ok, so I’m a big fan of seeing the amps on stage so I want
huge walls of cabinets.  Just like AC/DC, all the cabs are plugged in
and I want to be able to feel the speakers pushing air off the stage.
 It would be at least 19 or 20 cabinets on each side.  We’re talking
arenas right?
=====================================
Yeah.
Oh shit man, let’s do some Van Halen shit and just have tons of
speakers everywhere just ripping faces off.  Smoke, lasers, blowing some shit
up, dragons jumping out of the PA.  Yeah, I stole that but I stole it and
reversed it from it’s original intention [laughs].  There’s all
that but at the same time, I can’t help but just think, “let the music
do the talkin’†ya know?
=====================================
Are there any bands we’d be surprised to hear you were a fan of?
Oh yeah, tons.  For as much as I am a Heavy Metal fan I’m just a fan
of music and good art.  If it’s good music I’m into it.  Lately I’ve
been into this band from Seattle called The Cave Singers.  I got into
them from that movie Cabin Fever II.  They had the opening song in that movie
and it’s kind of folky acoustic driven music which I’m
really into.  I grew up with a lot of outlaw country and bluegrass.  My
dad was a bluegrass musician.
====================================
I can dig some of that old “real†country music.  The shit that they call
country music now is so far from what it used to be.
Man, that shit is totally not country.  It’s funny.  Somebody can put out a
pop song with Def Leppard sounding background vocals but if the
person in the video is wearing a cowboy hat it’s country music all of
the sudden [laughs].  I have been listening to a lot of Freddy King
lately.  He’s this blues guy from Texas.  That’s just some high energy
and heavy shit.
=====================================
In you opinion, what is the ultimate metal album that EVERYONE should own and
why?
Oh man.  Slayer’s Reign In Blood is one of the best albums ever made.  That
is what I would say is a perfect record.  Wolverine Blues by Entombed and Arise
from Sepultura are two other really perfect records.  There are so many perfect
Heavy Metal records but it depends on what era of Heavy Metal
we’re talking about ya know?  I mean,Rainbow Rising and Long Live Rock and
Roll are both amazing records but In Rock and Machine Head by Deep Purple are
perfect also.  Then you’ve got Black Sabbath and
Captain Beyond.  There are so many righteous records out there.
=====================================
What is your most prized piece of music memorabilia?
Man, I’ve got a couple of cool things but I’ve got this huge ass Rush 2112
rug.  It’s fucking massive and it covers almost an entire wall in
my apartment.  That’s probably the cream of the crop for me.  I love
that piece.
=====================================
If Hollywood called and said they wanted to make a movie about Shane Clark, who
would play you?
Hm, who would be me?  Wow, you kind of stumped me there.  Well, I
think Jack Black would be good since we have sort of the same physique.
 Yeah, I would have to say him or Count Floyd from SCTV [laughs].  Yeah,
let’s go with Count Floyd.
=====================================
And last but not least, do you have a message you’d like to send out to the
fans?
Yeah.  Check out the new record when it comes out and we’ll see you all on
tour.  Can’t wait.
=====================================
Shane thanks so much for doing this man.  It was great catching up with and
beers on me next time you’re in Atlanta!
That sounds great Don.  I really appreciate your support and I’m glad we had
a chance to do this before the record comes out.  Thanks for
getting the word out for us.  Take it

Guitarist/vocalist Paul Masvidal the progressive rock/metal band CYNIC has revealed to Andrew Pennington of Ireland's Molten magazine that the group is working on material for a new full-length album for a tentative late 2012 release.

"Right now we're deep in [writing] the album," Masvidal said. "It'll probably come out towards the end of the year. I think that's the goal, to deliver it by the summer. So that's it right now; just make a killer album. I feel really great about it already; I think that we're in good shape." Regarding the musical direction of the new material, Paul said, "It's almost like, I don't know how to explain it, but if I had to put it in a box it's more sci-fi, futuristic and alien but at the same time very song-driven. It's kind of like, to me, coming into CYNIC's body more. It feels very modern and at the same time it just feels really cool. I'm big in the space. It's definitely new. It's not like anything we've done before. It's a new color, a new space. I think people will really take note of even the guitar stuff. I'm really shifting gears, I'm trying things in a different way and the way stuff is played. It's a new space for CYNIC, for sure. It definitely sounds like us, except completely new."

CYNIC's latest EP, "Carbon-Based Anatomy", was released in November via Season Of Mist. The CD artwork was designed by the great Robert Venosa, the artist behind the covers of CYNIC's previous releases "Focus", "Traced in Air" and "Re-Traced".

All bass parts on "Carbon-Based Anatomy" were recorded by one-time CYNIC bassist Sean Malone.

CYNIC was joined by Brandon Giffin on bass and Max Phelps on guitar and vocals during the group's recent North American and European tours in support of "Carbon-Based Anatomy".

A teaser for the new album can be streamed below.

AC ANGRY is:

Glasgow, Scotland's MAN MUST DIE has announced the addition of drummer Todd Hansen (ex-THE BERZERKER) to the group's ranks.

Commented the band: "MAN MUST DIE are delighted to have Todd on board. He's a phenomenal drummer and a super cool guy. We are really looking forward to creating a new exciting era for MAN MUST DIE together. Todd brings with him an attitude unparalleled by anyone we've met in the music industry and will provide the missing link in the MMD armour."

Added Hansen: "I'm super excited to have successfully auditioned for Scottish metal band MAN MUST DIE. I have been searching for the right band since THE BERZERKER disbanded a couple of years back and MAN MUST DIE is right up my alley style-wise. The death/thrash drumming style, the songwriting, the lyrics, the dedication and commitment of the members as well as the fact they're great dudes! I'm really looking forward to creating some great heavy music with these guys."

MAN MUST DIE is currently seeking a new label home following its split with Relapse Records, which released the group's 2009 effort, "No Tolerance For Imperfection".

PHILM — the Los Angeles-based experimental post-hardcore triumvirate featuring drummer Dave Lombardo (SLAYER), guitarist/vocalist Gerry Nestler (CIVIL DEFIANCE), and bassist Pancho Tomaselli (WAR) — has inked a deal with Ipecac Recordings. The band's debut album, "Harmonic", will be released on May 15.

"When people hear about my involvement in PHILM, they automatically assume that it will compare to SLAYER's sound," explains Lombardo. "They couldn't be more different. I have scaled down my drum set to a four-piece, reminiscent of the drummers from the late '60s that influenced me. Each song is unique in itself, I like to refer to it as 'rhythmic emotion.' It's almost like taking all the heavy songs of the '60s and bringing that era to a modern plateau, then blending them with the modern trance and psychedelic sounds of today."

"We decided to record Harmonic in the intimate setting of a home, with various vintage recording equipment," says Lombardo on the band's debut album. "The music was written collectively in an improvisational manner, unlike the majority of recordings I've done before. This was very important given this is my first recording where I'm carrying the title of producer and performer. The album achieves a dense, unholy convergence of tones and discords. We also touch on haunting, desolate, ambient sounds. Our music tends to be written in a manner where we never know the outcome until we listen back to what we recorded. A harmonic journey."

While there are elements of metal detected throughout PHILM's sound, the band manages to also incorporate such other styles as jazz, ambient, hardcore punk, experimental, and funk into its unpredictable, cacophony-heavy style. An obvious reason for this multi-genre amalgamation can be directly linked to the gentlemen that play alongside Lombardo in PHILMTomaselli is a longtime member of funk rockers WAR, and Nestler fronts prog metallists CIVIL DEFIANCE. Add it all up, and you get the wonderful world of PHILM.

In an interview with AOL's Noisecreep, Nestler stated about PHILM's formation, "Dave and I first got together in 1997 to start an original band. We later regrouped between SLAYER's scheduled tour dates in late 2009, playing some upstairs jams at the Rainbow in Hollywood. We then decided to restart our band. Pancho had met Dave a few years back at one Dave's drum clinics and we decided to invite him in."

Regarding PHILM's sound, Nestler said, "The music of PHILM is channeled through the many different influences of drum and bass, expressionism, and underground that ranges via ancient and indigenous to street. There are many different things that Dave and I have been into that have contributed to the vision of PHILM. Pancho's highly skilled bass playing, chordal color and shape have helped expand the overall sound instrumentation and groove. Dave Lombardo's drumming goes without comparison, except that it might be said, to quote Pancho that 'it's like playing with the seven, not four, horses of the Apocalypse behind you.'"

PHILM officially took form in late 2010 with a handful of tour dates and an early four-song demo that quickly began to make the rounds of in-the-know music critics. Noisecreep said the band "has crafted a crunchy, thrashy, yet thoroughly unclassifiable sound" and the OC Weekly said of the trio: "PHILM's ability to melt down metal influences and mix them with the elements of funk, ambient jazz and punk... is potent and has left audiences wondering how so much noise could emanating from just three musicians."

"Harmonic" track listing:

01. Vitriolize
02. Mitch
03. Hun
04. Area
05. Way Down
06. Harmonic
07. Exuberance
08. Sex Amp
09. Amoniac
10. Held in Light
11. Dome
12. Killion
13. Mezzanine
14. Mild
15. Meditation

PHILM's next show is scheduled for April 28 at The Ruby Room in San Diego.

Ipecac Recordings is the brainchild of Greg Werckman (former label manager for the legendary punk label Alternative Tentacles) and FAITH NO MORE singer Mike Patton, who played with Lombardo in the eclectic supergroup FANTÔMAS.

Spanish pagan doom metallers LLVME will release their second album, "Yía De Nuesu", in March via My Kingdom Music. The CD is described in a press release as "the most true expression of great doom melodies of desperation, the epicity and magic of pagan metal and the beauty epic tale of the traditional pagan Leonese folk... Once again the typical extreme metal structures characterized by a strong doom metal background are enriched with the beauty of the Celtic violins and bagpipes arrangements and by wondeful female vocals. It'll be a must for all fans of MY DYING BRIDE, PRIMORDIAL, SHAPE OF DESPAIR, NEGURA BUNGET and doom pagan metal in general."

"Yía De Nuesu" was mixed and mastered by Daniel Cardoso (ANNEKE VAN GIERSBERGEN, HEAVENWOOD) at Ultrasound Studios.

The track listing for the effort is as follows:

02. Helmántica
03. Vettonia
04. Vaqueirada'l Baitse
05. Conceyu
06. Yía Fatu A Tierra
07. Pramoséu
08. Purtiellu De La Llïaltá
09. Llibación Nu Alborecer
10. Xota Chaconeada

LLVME's lyrics are inspired by the destructive power of fire and the glorious past of the band's homeland. They are written in Leonese, the native language of the ancient Kingdom of Leon, the Spanish region which the members of the band hail from.

"Llvme" is a Leonese word that means "fire."

Finnish folk metallers KORPIKLAANI recently entered the studio to begin recording their new album for a tentative late summer release via Nuclear Blast Records. The as-yet-untitled CD will mark the recording debut of the band's new fiddler, Tuomas Rounakari.

Commented the band: "We took Tuomas aboard when we noticed that he was actually the only sensible choice for us. We had already thought of him before, but were always afraid that he'd be too busy to join us, because KORPIKLAANI demands much time from every band member. When we finally asked him, he replied that it'd be an exciting challenge and big chance for him, so he agreed to take over the fiddle for us. We're more than happy about his decision!

"At the moment, the whole band is gathered in the studio where we've recently entered the final stage of recording, with Jonne laying down his vocal lines and only a few folk parts waiting to be recorded. If all goes to plan, the album will be ready for mixing at the end of March."

Get a first idea of Tuomas' instrumental skills by watching a video of his solo project "Shamanviolin" below.

A new KORPIKLAANI song called "Metsälle" was originally recorded late last year when the band was competing to represent Finland in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest. The track, which will also appear on the forthcoming CD, has since been released as a single and can be downloaded at this location.

According to KORPIKLAANI, "Metsälle" "is about the hunt on Hiisi's magical moose in the Northland. He (Lemminkäinen) puts on his charmed ski's and takes off for a prolonged hunt through forests and meadows, marshlands and woodlands, rapids and rivers. This song describes part of the Kalevala story, the national epic of Finland."

KORPIKLAANI's latest album, "Ukon Wacka", was released in North America on February 25, 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Finnish folk metallers ENSIFERUM recently entered the studio to begin recording their fifth album for a fall release via Spinefarm Records. From Petrax studio, the band will move on to two other locations in the Hämeenlinna area.

ENSIFERUM's new album will contain 10 tracks and will include guest appearances by members of DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER and the legendary Finnish singer and actor Vesa-Matti Loiri.

BLACK LIGHT BURNS, the avant-garde alter ego of LIMP BIZKIT/ex-MARILYN MANSON guitarist Wes Borland, has signed a worldwide deal with Rocket Science Ventures/THC: Music. The project's long-awaited sophomore LP, "The Moment You Realize You're Going To Fall", in the summer.

"This is a really personal record for me," says Wes. "I spent three years writing it and trying to find the right home, and I am confident it's the best BLACK LIGHT BURNS record yet. I'm really looking forward to working with THC/Rocket Science to get it out to the fans. It's really exciting to be working with a great team who loves the band; I couldn't be happier."

BLACK LIGHT BURNS released its debut album, "Cruel Melody", in 2007 through I Am: Wolfpack, the record label headed by producer Ross Robinson (KORN, SLIPKNOT, SEPULTURA, SOULFLY, LIMP BIZKIT). The group's original recording lineup featured Danny Lohner (NINE INCH NAILS), Josh Eustis (PUSCIFER) and Josh Freese (WEEZER, A PERFECT CIRCLE, GUNS N' ROSES, DEVO). An LP/DVD of unreleased B-side material, "Cover Your Heart And The Anvil Pants Odyssey", followed in 2008. In 2009, after a yearlong stint playing guitar for MARILYN MANSON, Wes and BLACK LIGHT BURNS hit the road for an extended run with industrial powerhouse COMBICHRIST, and contributed the track "I Want You To" to the "Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans" soundtrack. BLACK LIGHT BURNS took a temporary hiatus while Borland stayed busy with the reformed LIMP BIZKIT, who embarked on an ongoing world tour supporting their recently released LP "Gold Cobra". In 2012, BLACK LIGHT BURNS returned, to the delight of fans, with the track "It Rapes All In Its Path" on the "Underworld: Awakening" soundtrack.

Our debut album, 'White Collar Lies', has been a long time coming and has finally made its way home to Europe. We are really blessed to be working with a team that has as much love and belief in this band and debut album as we do. To find such passion in the music industry in this day and age is such a rare thing. We expect great things for 2012 and we are excited to see what this year has in store for us. IDES OF GEMINI is a collusion of musical forces precipitated by the haunting and inimitable vocal prowess of singer/bassist Sera Timms, also of Los Angeles dark-psych alchemists BLACK MATH HORSEMAN. The compositions are the long-simmering mental fallout of veteran music and film journalist J. Bennett (guitar/backing vocals), who has spent most of the last 14 years writing for such publications as Decibel, Terrorizer, Revolver, Alternative Press and Thrasher. The third and final corner of the triangle is Kelly Johnston, whose martial drumming techniques and soaring backing vocals literally brought IDES OF GEMINI to life as a performing entity.

In 2010, Timms and Bennett recorded and self-released IDES OF GEMINI's four-song EP, "The Disruption Writ", which was anointed "My Favorite Demo of 2010" by the highly influential music blog Invisible Oranges. Lyrically, the songs detailed the terrifying permanence of dismemberment in all its unsettling forms: psychological, emotional and physical. Musically, though? Someone on the Internet called it "dream doom." Nobody likes to be pigeonholed, but IDES OF GEMINI will gladly take up temporary residence in that particular nook for the sake of shorthand. Which is to say that "dream doom" will do the trick for now. And now is nothing if not fleeting. Mostly because IDES OF GEMINI are about to unveil their full-length debut, "Constantinople", via Neurot Recordings.

Set for North American release on May 29 (one day earlier internationally), "Constantinople"'s nine-tracks were produced by IDES OF GEMINI, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (DANZIG, SKELETONWITCH) at Sunset Lodge Recording in Los Angeles and features striking cover art collaboration by Timms and Bennett.

Comments Bennett of the soul-searing offering: "To say that this album is the result of blood, sweat and tears is the understatement of the year. This record exists only by the sheer will and determination of the three band members. Personally speaking, I wrote about half the music during the five months of 2011 in which I was unable to walk. 'Constantinople' means many things to IDES OF GEMINI, but it is primarily an example of victory over horseshit."

"Constantinople" track listing:

01. The Vessel & The Stake
02. Starless Midnight
03. Slain In Spirit
04. Resurrectionists
05. One To Oneness
06. Reaping Golden
07. Austrian Windows
08. Martyrium
09. Old Believer

Charlotte, North Carolina's DECEPTION OF A GHOST will enter Basement Studios next week with producer Jamie King (BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, HE IS LEGEND, FOR TODAY, ALESANA) to begin recording the band's new album, to be released later in the year via Bullet Tooth. Fans can expect a devastatingly heavy and complex metal album with the melody and intricacies they have come to love from DECEPTION OF A GHOST.

Commented King, "[I am] excited to have the DECEPTION OF A GHOST boys back in the studio. These guys always play super solid and make my job that much easier, not to mention all the laughs and great times.

"Judging from the material I've heard so far, it's going to open some eyes and ears for sure! I think these guys have the potential to get to the top with this one. We're going to have fun as always and take this one to the next level! We're going to make sure this one is a force to be reckoned with!"

Added DECEPTION OF A GHOST guitarist and songwriter Buddy Dameron: "Not sure we could be any happier with the material we are going into the studio with this time. This stuff is gonna kill, and we are beyond pleased with it. We're also approaching the recording in a way neither Jamie nor us have ever tried before; we are reaching outta the box to get a huge sound. Soooo excited to bring this to our fans. We know it's been a while for new DECEPTION OF A GHOST stuff to be available, but we promise it's well worth the wait."

Stated drummer Bryan Sain, "We're really stoked to be going back to Jamie King for our second full-length. It's going to be a new learning process for both the band and Jamie and we've already been talking with him about how exciting it's going to be. Our relationship with Jamie goes way back so he knows how to dial it in for us and give us exactly what we want in the studio."

DECEPTION OF A GHOST recenty released a music video for the song "These Voices" off the band's debut full-length album, "Speak Up, You're Not Alone". The song has been a major hit at the group's live shows and is currently available on "The Orphan Killer" soundtrack. Behind the camera for the clip was director Scott Hansen, responsible for recent videos from A DAY TO REMEMBER, ALESANA, MEMPHIS MAY FIRE, I SEE STARS, and many more. The video was filmed in Washington D.C. and showcases the band in their most comfortable habitat: performing.

DECEPTION OF A GHOST is:

KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono has completed laying down vocals for "Caligvla", the sophomore album from his Ancient Roman-themed arsenal EX DEO. He says, "It wasn't without any hard work, blood and sweat and also close to a fainting spell after one of the hardest-longest screams I ever made. Ten days of vocal tracking, some of my best work in my career, the gods will be pleased … Some solos are left, some guest appearances to track and we start mixing this beast, should be all done by end of March.. eight months in the making people, soon we will give the metal world a well-deserved punishment!!"

EX DEO — the Ancient Roman-themed arsenal led by KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono — has canceled its participation in the "Paganfest America Part III" tour with TURISAS, ALESTORM, ARKONA and HUNTRESS.

Commented Iacono: "We were all excited to play this festival and premier some new material, but unfortunately our new album, 'Caligvla', has been delayed, and we need to finish it and make it perfect. Add to that, the KATAKLYSM DVD is also on its final production phase... We decided it would be best to concentrate on giving every bit of attention to the album you have been waiting for, and also for the KATAKLYSM documentary to kick major ass. This being said, we will still perform with EX DEO on the Montreal [April 1 at Club Soda] and Toronto [April 2 at The Opera House] shows with Paganfest, as we will be in studio in the area, closing up the album 'Caligvla'. Everything else is cancelled for EX DEO. We will return to support the album in the fall... Word from Rome is that the plans are already in motion for world conquest! We ask our fans to support Paganfest and the great bands playing this year!"

EX DEO's sophomore album, "Caligvla", is being recorded with producer Jean-François Dagenais (KATAKLYSM, MALEVOLENT CREATION, MISERY INDEX, DESPISED ICON). The CD is tentatively due late summer via Austria's Napalm Records.

The artwork and layout for "Caligvla" will be handled by classic artist Seth (SEPTICFLESH). Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "I, Caligula", "Burned to Serve the Nocturnal Light", "In War & Conquest/Roma Caput Mundi" and "Teutoburg (The Ambush of Varus) - Part 1".

EX DEO last year completed a North American tour with NILE, PSYCROPTIC and KEEP OF KALESSIN.

"Romulus", the debut album from EX DEO, landed at position No. 90 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Norwegian avantgarde metallers BORKNAGAR have recruited Baard Kolstad (ICS VORTEX) as their new drummer.

Kolstad made his recording debut with BORKNAGAR on their cover version of METALLICA's "My Friend Of Misery", which was featured on the 20th-anniversary tribute to METALLICA's self-titled album, available with the September 2011 issue of Germany's Metal Hammer magazine.

BORKNAGAR's Øystein G. Brun told Radio Metal in a new interview: "[Baard] is an extremely talented drummer. He is much younger than our old drummer and it's brilliant."

BORKNAGAR's new album, "Urd", will be released on March 26 in Europe and March 27 in North America via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded with Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (OPETH, PARADISE LOST, KATATONIA) in Örebro, Sweden.

Legendary Swedish viking/death masters UNLEASHED will release their new album, "Odalheim", on April 20 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was produced by Fredrik Folkare and recorded in at Chrome Studios in Sweden.

With "Odalheim", UNLEASHED not only presents the follow-up to "As Yggdrasil Trembles" in the year 2012, but also continues telling its post-doomsday story, embedded into the Norse mythology.

After the mighty world tree Yggdrasil had trembled and rung in the end of the world, Fimbul winter followed: Three years of darkness and coldness, during which Mother Nature took back what was rightfully hers. This caused the end of life as we know it. Ragnarök. But the warriors who've survived will build a new world out of the old one's ashes. Right here, the story of "Odalheim" begins.

Commented UNLEASHED bassist/vocalist Johnny Hedlund: "The artwork is made by Sebastian Ramstedt, just like our previous three albums. It shows the new world 'Odalheim' at the break of dawn at Birka shores, and just before the attack of White Christ. The concept of the album is taken from the book by the same name. A book I haven't yet had the time to complete."

"Odalheim" track listing:

01. Fimbulwinter
02. Odalheim
03. White Christ
04. The Hour Of Defeat
05. Gathering The Battalions
06. Vinland
07. Rise Of The Maya Warriors
08. By Celtic And British Shores
09. The Soil Of Our Fathers
10. Germania
11. The Great Battle Of Odalheim

Hedlund previously stated about "Odalheim": ""Anders [Schultz, drums] asked me if this might be the fastest UNLEASHED album to date. I'm not sure, but it's likely close anyhow."

UNLEASHED's most recent CD, "As Yggdrasil Trembles", sold around 600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 85 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"As Yggdrasil Trembles" was released on April 6, 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at guitarist Fredrik Folkare's Chrome studio, and is "the logical continuation from 'Midvinterblot' [2006] and 'Hammer Battalion' [2008]," according to the group. "Lyrically, you will recognize what has become the UNLEASHED trademark since more than 20 years, the combination of the past, present and future of viking struggle and way of life. A few of the songs also mark the beginning of a story never before told."

UNLEASHED's current lineup:

Johnny Hedlund: Bass, Vocals
Tomas Måsgard: Guitar
Fredrik Folkare: Guitar
Anders Schultz: Drums
