BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, it was revealed on Monday (January 9). Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphocytes, a type of cell that forms part of the immune system. According to a statement issued by his publicist, the 63-year-old metal legend is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan and remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery.
The news comes as the original SABBATH lineup — Iommi, singer Ozzy Osbourne, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward — are writing and recording their first album together in 33 years. The disc is set for release this fall and SABBATH is scheduled to embark on a world tour, although Iommi's illness could affect those plans.
SABBATH has been working on its new album in Los Angeles, but now will head back to London to accommodate Iommi's plans for treatment.
In a brand new statement posted on his official web site, Iommi writes, "My fans, friends and colleagues,
"I just want to say how overwhelmed I am with all your messages of support, thank you so much.
"Well, it's not what I wanted for Christmas, that's for sure, but now I can't wait for the test results to come in and get going with the treatment.
"It's really good that the guys are coming over so that we can continue working on the album as things are going great in the studio.
"Well, not much else to say at this time, so thanks again.
"Bless you all, Tony."
Iommi told The Pulse Of Radio that ever since re-learning how to play guitar after severing two fingertips as a teenager, he's always been determined to fight his way through anything. "I've always been the same," he said. "I always have to try to get over that barrier, whatever it may be, and do it, you know. And that's continued in what I do with the music. People have said over the years, 'Well, why do you still keep playing and why do you still hold BLACK SABBATH together through the different lineups?' Because I'm determined to do it, I'm determined to carry on. And it's been with everything like that."
Iommi's bandmate in SABBATH and HEAVEN & HELL, legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio, died of stomach cancer in May 2010 at the age of 67.

For this year's Record Store Day (April 21), Niji Entertainment Group, the record label Wendy Dio and her late husband Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL, RAINBOW, ELF) formed before his untimely passing, will release a deluxe picture disc of RAINBOW's "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll". Each picture disc is numbered and only 2,500 were made. 250 units will be held back for fans that live outside the USA and will be made available via the Niji webstore.
About Record Store Day: Record Store Day is managed by the Music Monitor Network and is organized in partnership with the Alliance Of Independent Media Stores (AIMS), the Coalition Of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) and celebrates the culture of independent record stores by playing host to in-store events/performances, signings and special product releases on a global scale.
Record Store Day takes place annually on the third Saturday of April.
Bassist Bob Daisley, who was a member of RAINBOW from 1977 to 1979, in August 2010 posted high-quality video footage of of RAINBOW performing the songs "Gates of Babylon", "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" and "L.A. Connection" at a New York studio prior to the release of the band's third studio album, 1978's "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll'. You can watch the clips below.
Although Bob Daisley and David Stone are listed on the "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" credits for their contributions, they joined RAINBOW after the recording sessions had already commenced and only appear on a couple of tracks. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore played most of the bass parts himself for the album.
"Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" was remastered on CD for the U.S. market in April 1999, with the European version following later. The U.S. version had a matte booklet/insert, which matched the original vinyl sleeve for all markets, whereas the European issue was the standard glossy type.
This was RAINBOW's last album to feature Ronnie James Dio on vocals. He left, later to join BLACK SABBATH, and was replaced by Graham Bonnet.
In June 2009 a CD-size book about the making of album was released in the series "Rock Landmarks" called "Long Live Rock N' Roll Story". It was written by RAINBOW and Blackmore expert Jerry Bloom.

Mama's Fallen Angels recently conducted an interview with GUNS N' ROSES/SIXX: A.M. guitarist DJ Ashba. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.
When asked how soon fans can expect to hear a new GUNS N' ROSES album, Ashba replied, "I can't give anybody a definite date, because I'm not gonna give anybody false hope. But what I can say is [making a new album] absolutely is our main priority. And I cannot wait to get [working on it]. I mean, Axl [Rose, GN'R lead singer] has tons and tons of stuff recorded as it is. I mean, he sits there in his hotel room and he'll play me hours of stuff. And I've written over ten songs — I think 12 songs now — for him that he really likes. And I think now that we're off tour, we're gonna kind of start talking about, 'Hey, let's start piecing together what we feel would be the next best GUNS N' ROSES record.' It's absolutely everybody's goal to get out an album within a reasonable amount of time. That is everybody's focus."
SIXX: A.M. — the band consisting of Nikki Sixx (also of MÖTLEY CRÜE), DJ Ashba and James Michael — has begun writing material for its third album. According to Sixx, the CD will "probably [be] a 2013 release considering the body of work we're setting as a goal."
"7", the latest EP from SIXX: A.M., came out last month and sold around 2,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The effort contains acoustic versions of songs from the group's first two albums — 2007's "The Heroin Diaries" soundtrack and 2011's "This Is Gonna Hurt".
SIXX: A.M. will be "doing a proper video" for its next single soon, according to Sixx. In addition, "tour options keep coming, but we haven't found the right fit yet to open up the conversations," Nikki writes on his Facebook page.
SIXX: A.M. recently revealed plans to film a video for the song "Skin" in the Los Angeles area. The band put out a casting call for people whom the song has affected personally because of their own scars — whether physical or under the surface.
In addition to Ashba and sole original member Axl Rose, the current lineup of GUNS N' ROSES includes guitarists Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and Richard Fortus, bassist Tommy Stinson, keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman and drummer Frank Ferrer.
"Chinese Democracy", the 2008 album released by the current edition of GUNS N' ROSES after a 15-year wait, was officially certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on February 3, 2009 for shipments in the United States in excess of one million copies.
"Chinese Democracy" was made available exclusively through Best Buy.

On the heels of the announcement of MÖTLEY CRÜE's Las Vegas residency at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino throughout February and the release of his second best-selling book "This Is Gonna Hurt", international rock icon Nikki Sixx celebrated the upcoming launch of "Sixx Sense With Nikki Sixx" on top Los Angeles alternative rock station 98-7fm at The Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood last night. At the listener event hosted by 98-7fm, fans were treated to a question-and-answer session with Sixx and live musical performances by "American Idol" rocker James Durbin and rock band NICO VEGA.
"Sixx Sense With Nikki Sixx" will debut January 16 on 98-7fm in the 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. weeknight timeslot. The addition of 98-7fm marks an affiliate high of more than 80 stations for the Premiere Networks syndicated program, which launched nationally in February 2010.
"My dream was always to be on 98-7 six days a week because the music programming is diverse, open minded and always looking forward," stated Sixx. "While most stations stick to repetitive playlists, 98-7 isn't afraid to cross formats and show multiple musical influences. In an age of fear-based business, I have a real partner that has the balls to be original. Los Angeles is a hot bed of art, entertainment and new music. This is a perfect fit…I am really proud to be part of the team."
"Nikki is both a music icon and innovator," stated 98-7fm/KYSR Program Director Julie Pilat. "It's been fantastic working with him over the last two years since we added 'The Side Show Countdown' to 98-7fm on the weekend. He knows Los Angeles and the alternative format inside and out, and has a really unique perspective to share with the 98-7 audience. Nikki's passion for music, art, and social media are right in line with our station's strategy, and I am so excited to have him as part of our team nightly."
Each night on "Sixx Sense", the international rock icon, founder/bassist/songwriter of the world-renowned band MÖTLEY CRÜE and chart-topping band SIXX: A.M., two-time New York Times best-selling author, clothing designer, philanthropist and photographer Nikki Sixx discusses music and lifestyle topics as he gives listeners a backstage look at the world and mind of a rock star. Joined by co-host Kerri Kasem, Sixx provides his unique perspective and attitude as the duo welcomes celebrity guests, recording artists and fascinating characters from all walks of life. All this and more are coupled with the radio station's playlist. The show is complemented by "The Side Show Countdown With Nikki Sixx", which is available for air on weekends between 6 a.m. and midnight local time. Each weekend, the radio host and tastemaker introduces his personal new music picks, as well as plays an array of what's happening on the rock charts, and shares his own special brand of talk radio with celebrities and other guests. "The Side Show Countdown", which premiered on 98-7fm in July 2010, continues to air on more than 40 stations worldwide. In addition to success on the radio dial, the "Sixx Sense With Nikki Sixx" channel is available on Clear Channel Radio's digital platform iheartradio and XM Channel 164.

TWISTED SISTER singer Dee Snider's autobiography, "Shut Up and Give Me The Mic", will be released in May from Gallery Books/Simon & Schuster, right before Warner Pictures releases the Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta Jones and Russell Brand film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical "Rock Of Ages", which features two of Snider's biggest hits.
Sinder wrote on Twitter earlier today, "Spent day going over final draft of my memoirs. Still have hundreds of pages to go."
In an August 2011 interview with Goldmine, Snider stated about his upcoming autobiography, "Right now it looks like it's going to be about the rise and fall of Dee Snider. Basically, how I wanted be a rock star, what it took to get there, my struggle and then ultimately taking a tremendous fall, a devastating fall. Obviously I've come back from it, but I think people will take inspiration from it. It's inspiring and it's a cautionary tale."
Talking to Classic Rock last year about what people should expect from his book, Snider said, "Unlike others, I can remember what happened. I wasn't so out of it that I have to rely on what others tell me. This is the truth, not bullshit."
While perhaps best known as the lead singer of '80s sensation TWISTED SISTER, there is so much more to Dee Snider. He has starred in several reality TV shows, including "Gone Country" with John Rich, MTV's "Rock the Cradle" with his son Jesse and "Growing Up Twisted", an A&E series featuring the entire Snider family and their Long Island lifestyle. He is also a frequent host on MTV Networks, and his own nationally syndicated radio show "House Of Hair" is heard on more than 200 stations in North America. His career as a voice-over artist has resulted in Snider being heard in many radio and TV commercials, documentaries and a year-long stint as the introductory voice on MSNBC.
Never setting limits, Snider wrote, produced and starred in "Dee Snider's StrangeLand". This horror flick immediately became a classic of the genre, and "StrangeLand 2" is currently in development. With the success of "StrangeLand", Snider was tapped to host a weekly radio show on all things horror, "Fangoria Radio". Snider's influence in the genre has led to a whole new generation of horror fans and producers.
In 2002, VH1 signed Snider to star as himself in their original movie production of "Warning: Parental Advisory". Co-starring Mariel Hemingway, Jason Priestley and Griffin Dunne, Snider re-created his role during the congressional record labeling hearings of the mid-1980s. Battling the Beltway wives, most notably Tipper Gore, Snider, along with Frank Zappa and John Denver, turned DC politics upside down, carrying the banner of Snider's TWISTED SISTER legendary anthem "We're Not Gonna Take It".
Arnold Schwarzenegger wasn't going to take it either. The California Governator enlisted Snider to help rally his political troops all the way to the Governor's mansion in California. At his last political rally in Sacramento, Schwarzenegger asked Snider to lead the way in singing "We're Not Gonna Take It". California listened and the Terminator was elected Governor. Not to be outdone, the Mexican government recruited Snider as well, using the anthem in a TV campaign to gain attention on their bid to set the country on a fiscal and judicial road to recovery.
His recent starring role on Broadway in the hit musical "Rock Of Ages" generated national TV appearances on "Today", "The Joy Behar Show" and a legendary spot on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" where Snider guested with THE SPOOKS and Jimmy on Snider's self-penned hit "I Wanna Rock". The Broadway run inspired him to make a brand new record for Razor & Tie featuring some of Broadway's greatest songs in his own indomitable style. "Dee Does Broadway" is slated for an early 2012 release.
Snider lives on Long Island with his family.

Heavy metallers Hellyeah will make their return to Australia in February/March as part of the mammoth Soundwave Festival. Featuring an all-star lineup of ex-Pantera/ Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul, Mudvayne's Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett, Damageplan's Bob Zilla and Nothingface's Tom Maxwell, the band is currently putting the finishing touches on album number three. Guitarist Tom Maxwell spoke to Loud about the creation of their new material, Soundwave, which Australian hard rock band he's currently enjoying and more.
Q: Tom, how are you doing?
A: Good man, I'm just hanging out at my house, just writing some music and relaxing a little bit. I just kinda write in general; I just like to keep a catalogue of music. I work with some friends at home sometimes, but I'm just kinda fooling around, recording riffs and stuff.
Q: I believe the new Hellyeah album is close to completion as well.
A: Yeah, it's recorded, Chad has a few little things he needs to finish, just some little stuff, and then we go into mix mode I think this weekend, or next week, they start mixing out in Vegas. So yeah, it's almost done man, we're really excited.
Q: How does it compare to previous albums?
A: I think it's much bigger-sounding. We worked with a different engineer and I think we've definitely captured a much bigger, brighter, cleaner sound than the previous records. I think songwriting wise, for the first two records, we were just kinda going for it, just having fun and just playing really hard. I think we really dug into our roots on this album; we evolved our songwriting.
Q: What is the band's songwriting process like – do you all work together on the songs, present ideas individually, split into groups, etc?
A: It's mainly, what happens is that myself and our guitar player Greg and Vinnie all sit in a room together, just the three of us and kind of pound out all these songs and arrange everything. We just demo it real quick and then get back into it once we have a song solidified. For the main part, musically it's just me, Greg and Vinnie and Chad comes in afterwards and does his vocal parts. The lyrics are pretty much Chad's deal, he writes all the lyrics and comes up with all the content as far as the ideas for the song, whatever he's writing about. That's his thing and he's really good at it (laughs). I'm not very good at writing lyrics anyway, I just like writing music. But it's kind of his thing.
Q: Does he talk to you much about lyric writing or the concepts he's exploring?
A: We just let him do his thing; he'll have ideas that he'll bounce off of us. If an album title or something like that comes to one of us we'll say something to him, but for the most part he just writes it and comes to us, maybe tell us what it's about or he'll just go in there and sing it and then we just hear it for the first time. That's kinda how it works, he takes the reins vocally and we just let him go.
Q: Can you reveal any more details regarding the new record, such as the album title, song titles or a release date?
A: Well, we haven't solidified an album title yet. We've got a few that we're kinda juggling around. We have a couple (song) titles; 'War in Me' is one, 'Drink, Drank, Drunk' is another one. 'Call It Like I See It' is another one. But I'm not sure, I think Chad's going to rearrange or rename some titles, some may just be working titles and aren't solidified yet.
Q: Stampede was released less than two years ago, so the turnaround in writing and recording this album was shorter than the gap between that album and your debut. What was the motivation for getting back into the studio so quickly?
A: Well, I don't know what the whole Mudvayne situation is. It comes up in conversations every once in a while, but I don't know what their intention is in the future. I know for now, they're pretty much on indefinite hiatus until they circle back around, or even if they decide to do that down the road, I don't know. But we came off the last cycle still hungry; we were going through a transition, we were leaving the label we were on at the time, plus (making) a transition to new management. So we really wanted to keep the window open and not step away from it and just wait it out. We really wanted to take the summer and focus in on the next Hellyeah record while the engines were still warm and we were still in that mind-frame of just going out there and kickin' ass.
It took a lot longer for this record, for us to make it. Before we would do things in little increments, and we kinda did that with this record, but we just kept going back and back and back, and some songs just needed tweaking and stuff like that. But we didn't want to wait; we didn't want to put everything on hold. Those guys didn't have a commitment to go back to; after the first Hellyeah record, Chad and Greg still had commitments they had to do with Mudvayne. There wasn't even a question whether they could or not, they had to, so that was pretty much the big contributing factor why it took a year-and-a-half to two years between the first and second record. This one, we came off the road and nobody had any commitments, and we were still really hungry to get new music out there. We were talking about it at the end of the last cycle, how we really wanted to get a lot darker and heavier with this next record and I think it excited us to do that. The first few records have plenty of elements of heaviness, but we really wanted to bring power into this next record and we jumped at the chance. We took probably about a month off and then went to Texas and just started pounding it out.
Q: Is the band likely to road-test any new songs while in Australia?
A: I really want to. It's going to have to be a conversation that we have as a band with our management. If I do I doubt it'll be like a single, you know what I mean? It'll probably be one of the deeper tracks that we know that aren't going to be on the radio or anything like that (laughs). I really want to, there's definitely one or two tracks on there that I can see us doing without really jumping the gun before the next record comes out. But I think it would be nice to go out there and play some new stuff, just to get it out there and see the reaction.
Q: There's also the consideration that if you do play an unreleased song live, it'll be on YouTube within about five minutes of playing it.
A: (Laughs) Yeah, it's gonna do that; it's definitely the consideration. People will just record it on their phone and boom, it's on Facebook and everything else. So yeah, it's something that we're going to have to talk about, but if the song choice is right, if we pick the right song that we know isn't going to do any kind of harm or jump the gun like I said for the record, I don't see any harm in doing that, I'd love to do it. We've been down there twice and I'm not just saying this 'cause I'm talking to you and we're coming down there, but Australia really is one of our favourite, if not our favourite place, our favourite country to play. The people kick ass, the fans are incredible; the shows that we've played were just stellar and it's really cool to see that there's just such a rabid fan base out there for heavy music and coming down there is really cool, man. It's like a big Texas, as Vinnie likes to say. It's just a constant party going on and there's something to do and everybody's enthusiastic, ready to go out and play, and just have a good time.
Q: Who are you looking forward to seeing at Soundwave?
A: We know a lot of the bands that are playing and it's going to be cool just to see all these guys and hang out or just watch 'em play. I'm really stoked to see Manson play; I haven't seen him in a long time. Bizkit will be cool too; we played a show with them a year or two ago down in Florida. I know they catch a lot of shit for being more of a rap/rock kind of band and there's a lot of haters out there. But they're great live - just stellar. Wes (Borland) is just an incredible guitar player; he's got amazing presence on-stage, really psyched to see them. Slipknot obviously, it'll be cool to see; none of us got to see any of the shows they did in Europe, so this will be the first time we've seen them since Paul (Gray), so that's going to be pretty heavy.
Q: On a more personal note, 2012 is here – what were some of your favourite releases of 2011?
A: Oh, man. Mastodon's record was kick ass – have you heard that one?
Q: I have indeed, great record.
A: Yeah, that's a really good record. I haven't really checked out a lot of new records. I mean, the Machine Head record was really good, I loved that, and the Mastodon's record great. Other than that, I've been kinda out of the loop; I've been so busy and preoccupied with this new Hellyeah record that I haven't really had a chance to go out and study. There's a band from Australia that I really dig called Karnivool. Are you fans of those guys, you seen them, you friends?
Q: They're very popular here.
A: Yeah, yeah, I really enjoy them, man. I heard a couple of their tracks recently; up until then I'd never heard of them and one of the radio stations here in America was playing 'em. I went out and got their record and I thought it was just great, brilliant. Good songwriting, great singer. Are they playing on the Soundwave?
Q: They aren't actually.
A: Oh, bummer (laughs), that would have been cool, I would have loved to watch them. Hopefully we'll get a chance to tour with them.
Q: Any famous last words?
A: Just want to say to everybody in Australia, all the fans down there that we're excited to get down there and play for everybody, and we're real thankful that we're on this Soundwave Festival. We're just going to bring it, deliver the goods and kick some ass.

Vocalist Chuck Billy of San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal veterans TESTAMENT is the first Native American entertainer to be permanently displayed at the Hard Rock Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Chuck will make an appearance at the location on January 14 at 5 p.m., with an autograph session scheduled for 6 p.m.
In 2010, Billy, a member of the Hopland band of Pomo Indians, was featured in the "Up Where We Belong: Native Musicians In Popular Culture" exhibit at the National Museum Of The American Indian.
When asked about his upbringing, Billy told AOL's Noisecreep, "My father is Native American, and my mom is Mexican, and she also has some Native American blood in her. My father was raised on the Hopland Indian reservation, which is about two hours north of San Francisco. I was born in Oakland, California, and for the first five years was raised in Los Cerritos, California. After that, we moved to Dublin, California, and I pretty much grew up there. My father owned two properties there, and I remember going to the reservation a lot as a kid. When my father retired, he moved there permanently."
Regarding his life on the Hopland reservation during the '70s and '80s, Chuck said, "There was just so much freedom on the reservation. I hate to say it, but they were just a bunch of wild Indians [laughs]. It was crazy back then. Our tribe and reservation is really small, and before we ever had a casino on the land, there wasn't a lot of hope. There wasn't any money around, and it just felt desperate. It was dire, especially with education and basic resources like that. The kids didn't even have the basic stuff other kids have in the rest of the country. So a lot of kids didn't even bother going to school.
"There's always the stereotypical stuff about Indians being drunk and high on the reservation, and all of that stuff. And yes, there was a lot of that back then. But you can say that about a lot of other places in the world. If you have a situation as rough as it was for our tribe back then, you're going to have people escaping into alcohol and drug abuse."

After playing select shows in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, USA and Canada to give fans a chance to get "up close and personal" with new singer Marc Hudson, U.K. based metal heroes DRAGONFORCE have announced their first U.K. headline concert with Hudson on February 16 at at the 100 Club on Oxford Street in London. The gig is timed to give DRAGONFORCE fans an opportunity to celebrate with the band the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dragon, and the fact that the group's new album is finally finished and due for release in the spring.
Commented guitarist Herman Li: "We are all glad to be finished in the studio, especially given that the new record is sounding fantastic! We're looking forward to letting off steam at the 100 Club and announcing that in the Year of the Dragon, DRAGONFORCE are well and truly back!"
DRAGONFORCE performed two brand new songs — "Last Fallen World" (described by singer Marc Hudson as "the fastest, most extreme DRAGONFORCE song so far") and "Cry Thunder" — during its October 21, 2011 concert at the Gramercy Theater in New York City. Fan-filmed video footage of the show can be seen below.
After entries from thousands of hopefuls across the globe, DRAGONFORCE in March 2011 welcomed 23-year-old Marc Hudson to the band to fill the boots left by ZP Theart, who parted ways with the group in March 2010.
Born in Oxford England, Marc was picked from the thousands of applications via a number of impressive video auditions and live performances, which left the rest of the band in no doubt that they'd found their man. Since the age of 16, Marc has been building his vocal skills gigging with bands in the U.K. underground scene, developing a powerful style with influences which include Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske and Sebastian Bach.
The band has been working on a new album since early 2010, recording in various studios in California, London and the South of France. The follow-up to 2008's hugely successful "Ultra Beatdown" album will be highly anticipated, with top 10 and top 20 chart positions all over the world and a Grammy nomination in the United States setting the precedent. With Marc brought into the fold, the band is enjoying an injection of enthusiasm and hunger that sees DRAGONFORCE prepared to return more focused and determined than ever before.

Resurrected '80s hard rockers QUIET RIOT have parted ways with their frontman of a little over a year, San Diego, California-based vocalist Mark Huff.
The band has recruited ex-MONTROSE singer Keith St. John for the following shows:
Feb. 01 - B.B. Blues Club & Grill - New York, NY
Feb. 03 - Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood, NJ
Feb. 04 - The Rock Junction - West Greenwich, RI
Huff, who succeeded the late Kevin DuBrow, stated in a September 2010 interview, shortly after he joined QUIET RIOT, "I am honored and very excited to be QUIET RIOT's new singer. I am also humbled and feel a bit of pressure. Who wouldn't feel pressure? Kevin DuBrow was a one-of-a-kind songwriter, musician and a consummate performer. He had an incredible vocal range; I have mass respect for Kevin."
Regarding what fans should expect to see from his live appearances with QUIET RIOT, Huff said at the time, "I don't think trying to duplicate Kevin's every sound or movement is what honors Kevin DuBrow or QUIET RIOT. It's important for me to stay true to the songs as they were written, as the fans remember them, and to bring the live show to full strength. I am not here to replace Kevin DuBrow."
He continued, "Frankie [Banali, drums] summed it up best when he said, 'Kevin DuBrow was one of a kind and cannot be replaced.' I am here to help QUIET RIOT continue to keep the music alive in the most flattering way possible."

Singer Mark Huff, who was officially fired from QUIET RIOT earlier today, has accused his former bandmates of "letting him go" without having had the "balls" to "tell it to [his] face."
QUIET RIOT released a statement this morning announcing that it had split with Huff and that ex-MONTROSE singer Keith St. John has been recruited to front the band for three East Coast shows in early February.
A short time later, Mark posted a message on his Facebook page, stating, "As I sit in hospital… wait for my brain surgery… I have been let go from QUIET RIOT. And nobody's had balls to tell it to my face. Interesting … the rock 'n' roll business. I have to read the news in a post that's not even directed to me?… WTF?"
He continued, "Let me tell all my friends… don't count me out… Watch what happens. It's obvious what I ever meant to this situation… I deserve better treatment… Don't worry about me… Worry about your own bad selves. And I am gonna take the high road… I have so much shit I could speak… Stay tuned, my friends."
This was followed by a Facebook post from QUIET RIOT drummer Frankie Banali, who wrote, "With regards to Mark Huff: My policy has always been not to air out the dirty laundry in public. That policy remains the same even in light of those who chose to make accusations. The fact is that Mr. Huff's medical condition had nothing to do with the decision that was made, though it is unfortunate that it comes at such a time. His wife assured me that Mark would be home this week, and as legal protocol dictated, a certified letter was sent informing Mark of the decision that was made and why it was made. This was days ago. The content of that letter is a private matter unless Mr. Huff decides to make the reason for his dismissal made public, which I believe would be counterproductive for him. I will not go tit for tat with this issue. If certain persons wish to villainize me, that is their prerogative."

Former IRON MAIDEN and current WOLFSBANE singer Blaze Bayley has announced that he will be accompanied by Matteo "Lehmann" Grazzini, bassist of the Bologna, Italy-based thrash metal band NEURASTHENIA, on the upcoming "King Of Metal" tour. Also joining Blaze in his touring band are Claudio Tirincanti (drums) and Andrea Neri (guitar; ASTARTE SYRIACA).
Bayley has commenced work on his new solo album, "The King Of Metal", for a tentative March release. A European headlining tour in support of the CD will kick off in early March in Belgium.
Commented Blaze: "Over the many years I have been a professional singer, and through my ups and downs, I have noticed how some artists and bands take their success and their fans for granted.
"For me, there is no heavy metal without heavy metal fans.
"I am dedicating the new album and tour to my fans and the fans of heavy metal. It is called 'The King Of Metal' because you the fans are the real kings of metal. Each one of you that buys albums and merchandise and tickets to gigs is a king of metal to me."
Blaze last year parted ways with the rest of his band in order to pursue a career as a solo artist and the lead singer of WOLFSBANE. He explained the decision by saying that "the mental, financial and emotional strain of keeping the BLAZE BAYLEY band together has proven to be too much for me and has taken a terrible toll on my mental health. . . It has been an upsetting, frustrating and sad time because the BLAZE BAYLEY band will not be going on any more, but it is also for me a huge relief and a time to look forward."

Former METAL CHURCH/LILLIAN AXE singer Ronny Munroe has announced his departure from PRESTO BALLET, the progressive rock band led by ex-METAL CHURCH guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof. Ronny states, "My continued involvement with the TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA has made it impossible to leave me with enough time to fully dedicate myself to such a great band as PRESTO BALLET. I'm wishing Kurdt Vanderhoof and the rest of the guys continued success, and I thank Kurdt for allowing me the chance to share in, and be a part of, his vision."
PRESTO BALLET recently announced the addition of drummer Larry Crowe to the group's ranks.
PRESTO BALLET released a new EP, "Love What You've Done With The Place", on July 2, 2011. It was made available for download on iTunes and other major online sites, but if you want a CD that includes a bonus track, it is only available on the group's official web site.
Munroe's new solo album, "Lords Of The Edge", came out on October 18, 2011 via Rat Pak Records. The CD features the guitar mastery of Stu Marshall (EMPIRES OF EDEN), Chris Caffery (TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA, SAVATAGE), and Michael Wilton (QUEENSRŸCHE) and is described in a press release as "a true metal offering that delivers an onslaught of fist-pumping, guitar-driven heavy metal."

Greek melodic metallers FIREWIND, who are led by current OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist Gus G., have signed a new worldwide deal (excluding North America) with their longtime partners Century Media Records. The band is currently in the studio in its hometown of Thessaloniki recording a new studio album, to be titled "Few Against Many", for a late spring release.
Commented Gus: "We're currently completing work on our upcoming FIREWIND studio album, which is coming out killer! I think this album will turn a lot of heads and I can't wait for you to hear it!
"Whether I've been working with Century Media on FIREWIND since 2005 or earlier projects since 2002, we've always had a winning team. Together we've achieved fantastic things in the band's career and the proof is the ever growing fanbase and popularity of FIREWIND.
"When I explained them my vision and ideas for the new album, they convinced me they're the right partner to take this to a new level!"
Added Antje Lange, Century Media's European label manager: "We feel very honoured to work with Gus G. further on and play our part in the fast development of this outstanding Greek talent.
"FIREWIND is one of the few fast-growing bands in their genre. They have the ability to write excellent songs, Gus G. is a true magician on guitars and their live performance is breath-taking. Anyone out there asking for more?"
In a 2011 interview with Oregon Music News, Gus stated about the relative lack of promotion in North America for FIREWIND's latest studio album, "Days Of Defiance", "If were up to me, I would have released the album after I would be available to tour behind it. This was the label's idea who wanted to the album out. Our current label, Century Media, wanted it released. They said, 'We paid you to record the album and we want the masters.' I said, 'Okay, here you go.' I didn't feel good about it. This is the politics of the music business, I tried to make the label see that sure we'd get some press due to my involvement in Ozzy's band, but we would not be able to tour. Waiting 10 months to tour behind an album isn't a good business."
When asked if there were any plans for FIREWIND to re-release "Days Of Defiance" as an "expanded" edition to coincide with the band's recent North American headlining tour, Gus said, "We have thought about it but it goes back to the politics with our label. This was our last album for Century Media [under the previous deal] and unless you're signed for a long-term contract, they aren't going to do much for you. So for FIREWIND, this time around, there wasn't any creative marketing behind the album. It's sad, because I do feel that it's our best album to date and the fans absolutely love it. Unfortunately, there could have better promotion and Century Media should have waited a few months to release it, but that's record label politics for you."
FIREWIND will play two special shows this week in Greece to conclude the worldwide touring cycle for "Days Of Defiance". In addition, FIREWIND has already announced the first couple of European summer festival appearances: Masters Of Rock (Czech Republic) and Summer Breeze (Germany).
"Days Of Defiance" landed at position No. 53 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. The CD was released in North America on October 26, 2010 (one day earlier internationally) via Century Medi

DiMarzio will officially launch the Mark Morton "Dominion" signature model pickup at next week's NAMM show in Anaheim, California. Designed and developed in conjunction with LAMB OF GOD's Mark Morton, the Dominion pickups are the result of over two years of intense bench work, road testing and studio recording. Available in both bridge and neck models, the DiMarzio Dominion offers the player a wide range of diverse and dynamic tone possibilities in a passive, medium output, humbucking pickup.
Morton states, "This pickup completes the circle for me ... it's the missing link in my search for THE SOUND. The clean tones are like bells and pianos ... simply gorgeous. The rhythms are the perfect balance of cream and crush. There's such a unique character to the saturation ... it's thick and massive, but equally accurate and concise. The gain structure is super tight without sacrificing body and depth, and the lead tones are absolutely scorching. It's got all of the sear, slice and sustain you could ever ask for. Can you tell that I'm in love?!"

Century Media Records has announced the signing of the Las Vegas rock group OTHERWISE.
A hometown breakout, OTHERWISE earned recognition on the national level when Fox News dubbed them the "#1 Unsigned Act in America" — and America backed the claim. The band's song "Soldiers" became the first track by an unsigned artist to occupy the No. 1 spot on SiriusXM satellite radio's Octane channel (where it currently maintains the peak position) and has sold more than 10,000 singles on iTunes in the past month alone.
"We're so stoked to have signed with Century Media," says OTHERWISE vocalist Adrian Patrick. "We have a very unique history with the label, so it feels like a natural fit for us. They were the first company to present us with a huge opportunity back in 2010, so it's extremely synchronistic for us to be given the chance to make a mark with our own music now, on this label. It's been a long, dark road to get to this point... it feels damn good to finally start seeing the light."
OTHERWISE — brothers Adrian and Ryan Patrick (guitars/vocals), Flavio Ivan (bass/vocals), Corky Gainsford (drums/vocals) and Vassilios Metropoulos (guitar/vocals) — is currently recording its debut album with Jay Baumgardner (BUSH, LINKIN PARK, PAPA ROACH, INCUBUS) at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, California.
"I'm psyched to be working with a stellar band like OTHERWISE," says Baumgardner. "I'm very excited by what we can accomplish together and I think the album will speak for itself."
The CD is set for a spring 2012 release and will be introduced by lead single "Soldiers", which will be shipped to terrestrial radio for adds this week.
"I've had my eyes on OTHERWISE since Adrian sang 'The Promise' on the last IN THIS MOMENT record, and I've watched the band develop from a very good band into an amazing band," says Century Media President Don Robertson. "In that time they've not only become a part of the Century Media family, they've also become a huge part of our plans for the future. As proud as we are of the success they've already achieved, 'Soldiers' is just the beginning for OTHERWISE, and Century Media couldn't be more excited to have them call our label home."
No stranger to the stage, OTHERWISE has honed its captivating live show playing with such acts as AVENGED SEVENFOLD, KORN, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD, PUDDLE OF MUDD, PAPA ROACH, ROB ZOMBIE and the DEFTONES. In addition, Adrian Patrick appeared on IN THIS MOMENT's hit duet "The Promise" alongside Maria Brink and spent the summer of 2010 on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem tour performing the song with the band live.

"The Shadows Compendium", the first instrumental solo album from guitarist Stéphan Forté of French neo-classical metallers ADAGIO, will be released in North America on February 28 via Listenable Records. The CD, which came out in Europe in November, was mixed by Kevin Codfert at XFade studio in Paris, France. Stéphan and Kevin previously worked together on the production of ADAGIO's fourth album, "Archangels In Black".
"The Shadows Compendium" features several other guests, such as Jeff Loomis, Glen Drover, Daniele Gottardo and Derek Taylor.
One of the songs from the CD, "De Praestigiis Daemonum", can be streamed at this location. The track, which features a guest appearance by Mattias IA Eklundh from FREAK KITCHEN, was described by Forté as "probably the most shredding song of the album. I guess it is not the easiest one to listen to, but since it's the very first song we're offering to the guitar fans, I wanted to give them an 'in-your-face' kinda track. This is also a song I've made as a tribute for Jason Becker. He is one of my biggest guitar influences ever and it's been a while since I wanted to do it, so I am very glad to share this track with you guys!"
Stéphan previously stated about "The Shadows Compendium", "When I decided to record this album, it was obvious that I wanted to work with Kevin again. We both know each other so well that sometimes we don't even need to talk while mixing. Kev knows perfectly what I want and I am 100 percent happy with the mix he did on this album. It has been a real work in common since not only he mixed it, but also did the drums programming and, of course, played all the keyboards and piano. On the bass, same thing — it was clear that Franck [Hermanny] would do the bass. He is one of the most skilled bass player I know in metal, he is in ADAGIO with me since day one and just like Kevin, he's one of my best friends, so it could not have been done differently!"

Lita Ford has signed a worldwide deal with SPV/Steamhammer. Her new album, "Living Like A Runaway", is tentatively due in May.
Best known for her work with THE RUNAWAYS and her solo career, including hit singles "Kiss Me Deadly" and the Billboard-charting duet with Ozzy Osbourne, "Close My Eyes Forever", Lita is ready to make a return to the throne as the queen of metal.
"SPV gets who I am, my work, and what it takes to bring this project to life. I'm very excited to have them on my team," says Lita.
"Living Like A Runaway" was co-written and produced by rock guitarist Gary Hoey and represents a return to form for Lita, who drew inspiration from her "ugly divorce" from NITRO singer Jim Gillette.
"Gary Hoey and I wanted to approach this record by getting back to basics," she said. "We want to strip away all the electronics and plug-ins and keep it to vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. Going back to basics is going back to what punk, metal and THE RUNAWAYS was for me."
She added, "[The album title] 'Living Like A Runaway' means freedom and empowerment. To do what I want and to pursue my dreams while answering to no one."
SPV A&R representative/product manager Olly Hahn commented on the signing of Lita Ford: "When I bought 'Dancin' On The Edge' back in 1984, I never thought that I would ever sign Lita Ford to a label. But a dream of mine came true and it's a huge honor for us at SPV/Steamhammer to have one of the leading women in rock 'n' roll on our label."
In a 2011 interview with Classic Rock Revisited, Lita said that "Living Like A Runaway" will be her "real comeback album." She explained, "The last album I did was called 'Wicked Wonderland', I put it out with Jim Gillette, and we were married at the time. It is kind of a Jim/Lita album and not a really true Lita album. I got a lot of spiel about that. A lot of people have told me that they want a real Lita album, and I know what they mean. They are going to get it."
She continued, "I really wasn't that comfortable with 'Wicked Wonderland' — not at all, to tell you the truth. There are parts of it that are good but it doesn't sound like a Lita record. When it got released, a lot of my fans felt weird about it and said it wasn't a Lita album. This time I want to do it on my own. The last one turned out to be more of a Jim album. We worked pretty well together. It doesn't suck, it's not a bad album; it's just not a Lita album."
Lita and Jim are the parents of two sons, Rocco and James.
"Wicked Wonderland", the first album in 15 years from Lita Ford, sold around 2,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 31 on the Top Hard Music Albums chart.

Acclaimed Swedish producer Jens Bogren, who has previously worked with such acts as KATATONIA, OPETH, PARADISE LOST and AMON AMARTH, started mixing the new album from New Brunswick, New Jersey's melodic, thrash-metal warriors GOD FORBID earlier today (Thursday, January 12) at Fascination Street studios in Örebro, Sweden. Due this spring via Victory Records, the bulk of the CD was recorded by Mark Lewis (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER, TRIVIUM), with Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, ALL THAT REMAINS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, CHIMAIRA, DEVILDRIVER) stepping in during the the vocal-tracking stage.
A demo version of a new GOD FORBID song, "Where We Come From", is available for streaming in the YouTube clip below. The track was originaly given away as a free download as part of a Victory Records Labor Day digital sampler.
GOD FORBID guitarist Doc Coyle previously stated about the material for the band's forthcoming CD, "It's always difficult to tell how a new album will sound this early in the process, but I can say that our new guitar player Matt Wicklund [ex-HIMSA] is contributing tons of material. His stuff is very hook-oriented with a Scandinavian twinge.
"The stuff I've been writing has been varied from evil MORBID ANGEL, black metal shit to mid-tempo/power groove MACHINE HEAD-type stuff, and signature GOD FORBID material that is a logical progression from our previous albums."
GOD FORBID will debut some of its brand new material at the following East Coast shows in February:
Feb. 18 - Brooklyn, NY - St. Vitus
Feb. 24 - Clifton, NJ - Dingbatz
Commented Doc Coyle: "With only one show in 2011 and two months spent in the recording studio, we have been itching to get out and play. We thought it would be a great idea to get into an intimate setting in our area for the real GOD FORBID fans. Expect to hear some new songs and some old cuts that haven't played in a while."

New York-based extreme metal legends SUFFOCATION are hard at work on material for their new album, tentatively due this summer via Nuclear Blast Records.
In the February 2012 issue of Decibel magazine, SUFFOCATION bassist Derek Boyer stated about the upcoming CD, "We're in the pre-production stage [and are] currently working on final arrangements, lyrical placement and content."
He added, "Each album is an evolution process. As always, we take the key elements that are SUFFOCATION, add current feelings and outside influences, the begin collaborating. We're very happy with the direction we're headed!"
Relapse Records released SUFFOCATION's only official live record, "The Close Of A Chapter: Live In Quebec City", on October 27, 2009 in North America and November 2, 2009 internationally. Recorded in 2005 during the band's "Souls To Deny" world tour, the CD contains the band's complete, unedited performance.
SUFFOCATION's latest album, "Blood Oath" (Nuclear Blast), sold around 3,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 135 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD landed at position No. 2 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
The follow-up to 2006's self-titled record, "Blood Oath" was recorded with Joe Cincotta (who worked on the band's last two releases) and was mixed by Zack Ohren (ALL SHALL PERISH, DECREPIT BIRTH). The cover artwork was once again brought to life by Jon Zig (DEEDS OF FLESH, DISGORGE, GORGASM).

According to the Arab television network Al Arabiya, Norwegian black metallers TAAKE have sparked outrage after being nominated for a prestigious Norwegian music award despite having written lyrics that are allegedly anti-Islamic.
TAAKE's "Noregs Vaapen" album, along with the latest releases from INSENSE, SHINING, VREID and ÅRABROT, has been nominated in the "Metal" category at the 40th annual Spellemann awards (the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammy Awards). The largest and oldest Norwegian music awards show will be held Saturday, January 14 at Folketeateret in Oslo, Norway and will be broadcast live on the Norwegian channel NRK1.
TAAKE's critics argue that the lyrics in the band's song "Orkan" (Hurricane) are xenophobic as they include the phrase "To hell with Muhammad and the Mohammedans" and their "unforgivable customs."
However, Hoest, TAAKE's front man, has refuted these claims and said that their sole intention was to criticize religion. "Our view, in the name of freedom of expression, is that it is shameful to adhere to Christianity or Islam," he said.
Marte Thorsby, chairman of the prize committee's board, denied any allegations that the judges had not properly listened to the album before its nomination. "We enjoy full freedom of expression in Norway and a Spellemann jury is not going to censor content in any way," she told the Aftenposten newspaper.
Hoest previously found himself at the center of controversy in March 2007 after he appeared on stage in Essen, Germany with a swastika symbol drawn on his chest. This led to the cancellation of the band's European tour and outrage among many heavy metal fans across Germany.
Hoest responded to the controversy by saying, "We truly apologize to all of our collaborators who might get [into] problems because of the Essen swastika scandal, except for the Untermensch (subhuman) owner of that club; you can go suck a Muslim."
TAAKE's most recent statement takes a slightly less offensive tone: "TAAKE has never been a political band, and we do not encourage either violence or racism."
