I always wondered about the cover. for years the rumor was the old man in the photo was Alistair Crowley, then I heard it was Peter Grant dressed up as Crowley. In the 90s Plant confessed it was a funny photo that he bought in a junk store in England. Page had the idea to somehow visually describe the sound they were after, the juxtaposition of the quiet life of the country and the hustle and bustle of the city

I gave them quite a lot of money over the years... I bought that album multiple times... two or three times on vinyl because it got scratched up from so much play, then cassette, maybe twice after one got wore out, then CD, then the boxed set.

its a desert island disc, for sure. either that or their second album

That's a cool bit of information. Certainly an album that epitomizes Classic Rock.

Its been awhile since I've actually played it, but I can guarantee I still know every note on that record!

40 years ago today, the greatest rock band of all-time released the greatest rock album of all-time, Led Zeppelin IV. A powerhouse from the legendary opening vocal intro of "Black Dog" to the final notes of the hypnotic Mississippi blues-infused "When The Levee Breaks," IV contains eight radio classics including "Rock And Roll," "The Battle Of Evermore," "Misty Mountain Hop," "Four Sticks," "Going To California," and, of course, the ultimate rock anthem, "Stairway To Heaven." "Hats Off" to Jimmy, Robert, John Paul, and John for creating a true work of art that only gets better with age.
