According to The Pulse Of Radio, Roger Taylor says that the bottom line for him and Brian May launching the talent search for their Queen Extravaganza production is quality control. The pair is prepping a self-produced tribute act to tour next year "playing QUEEN's music combined with unseen footage and a production spectacle" which is completely sanctioned and controlled by the band.

Taylor admitted that there are several reasons for the band to put their energies into the tribute show, but it's mainly to protect the brand name of the group. "Well, that is definitely, I would say, the key aspect. I'm not going to pretend it's the only aspect. I mean, but whether this makes any money or not, I can't tell at this stage. Obviously, I'll be honest — I hope it does — but it's turning into an exciting project now. But it is for that very reason. There were literally hundreds of these tribute bands, and most of them are pretty cheesy, and I just thought it really is diluting whatever we might've had."

QUEEN is urging talented fans "who think they have what it takes to play Brian May's guitar riffs in 'Sheer Heart Attack' or do their best Freddie Mercury vocals on 'Bohemian Rhapsody'" to upload their auditions to www.queenextravaganza.com."

According to TMZ.com, GUNS N' ROSES lead singer Axl Rose has agreed to pay $53,000 to cover the damages he allegedly caused to a 2006 Bentley Flying Spur car.

Axl leased the $192,000 vehicle through Bentley Financial Services back in 2005 and returned it several months past the actual due date with some serious damage, including a cracked windshield, two damaged tires, broken glass on the left rear tail light, two dented doors and a gouged bumper. In addition, Axl allegedly turned in a "mismatched spare key" and a "broken remote key," and he was 42,397 miles over his contracted limit.

Axl was sued by Bentley Financial Services last year for $73,976.42 in payments and fees on the vehicle, and last week, Axl finally settled the case.

Matt Coe of Eternal Terror webzine recently conducted an interview with ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Eternal Terror: It's well known that you are a prominent songwriter for the band and can play decent guitar in addition to your great skill on the drums. Is it easy for you to separate your mind when you're writing versus performing in the band? Do you employ any specific practice routines or regiment to keep your drumming level sharp?

Benante: When I'm writing music, it's primarily on guitar. And I've said this before, when there is a riff in my head and it's coming out on guitar I'm almost possessed by the riff to play it through the guitar. I will have 10 minutes' worth of a song and all different types of riffs built around that theme. Once the song is finished, I'm done with it and then I become drummer guy again. I have to warm up at least 45 minutes before we go on stage; the older you get the harder it gets as well. It does help me to warm up before I get out there and really play; it's like running a marathon some nights.

Eternal Terror: ANTHRAX have always been a band that I believe keep an ear on the pulse of current music. How do you make sure you stay relevant with your 30-plus years as ANTHRAX?

Benante: Well, this is something that happened without even knowing that it happened. A lot of people have been saying with this record it seems that we reinvented ourselves. To that, I say that's the best way that it could have happened to us. To go in to re-invent ourselves, it happened naturally. For other bands, it's like an accident to re-invent themselves. Maybe it was a good thing that we haven't released a record in eight years. Maybe that's not the pattern all the bands should take, releasing a record every other year. Give it some time and write a great album.

Eternal Terror: We are coming up upon the 10 year anniversary of the World Trade Center bombing. Do you feel safer and more secure as you travel a lot across the world in terms of the global touring you do with Anthrax?

Benante: No, no I do not. I think it's just the same. Going through airports that whole thing is a joke. In other countries, you don't have to do things that you do in America or, say, Canada. They will let you walk through with your shoes on, not even take your computer out. I think it's ridiculous. I'm all for security, but I don't know, man. To be honest with you, the Bush years really messed me up in a sense I don't trust anyone anymore in the government. They put so much fear into the general public that it's a total scam to mess people up.

Eternal Terror: Do you feel like there are any new areas for Anthrax to explore in the coming years — be it recording-wise or touring-wise? Or even any particular individual goals you want to accomplish that you haven't been able to get to yet?

Benante: The thing I would really love for this record is to reach people who may not normally even listen to this style of music to give it a listen. These are goals that you may not say after being in music for 30-plus years, but we've kinda starved ourselves and as a result we've become so hungry again for this whole thing. It's the most real it's ever been. I want people to give this record a fair listen before they say they don't want to listen to ANTHRAX.

Eternal Terror: Do you think the metal scene struggles because of this lack of hunger sometimes?

Benante: I think the metal scene struggles... How can I put this it without sounding bad? Most true metalheads are not the most open-minded people when it comes to music. They like what they like and they want that — and you have to deliver that. If you go a little left field, I don't know, man, that's taking some chances there and you have to deliver. With this record, it is truly a heavy metal record. There's no other influence on this record other than hard rock and heavy metal.

Eternal Terror: Do you still keep in touch with most of the former members, like [ex-guitarist] Dan Spitz?

Benante: I saw Danny about a year ago when we played in Florida; he came out to the show. For a while there I was really concerned with Danny's health. I know Dave Mustaine [of MEGADETH] talks to Danny quite a bit. I love Danny; he's a great human being.

Anthrax is riding the wave, stoking the fire, stirring shit up as only they can, it turns out they weren't lying when they promised to remain the "hardest ever".   The band has soldiered on through the decades, the trends, the drama and more recently the BIG 4 tour with Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica.  Some long time fans of the band were starting to wonder if they'd ever see a new studio album from the band with original singer Joey Belladonna.  Have no fear, faithful congregation, Brother Benante recently sat down to give us the  lowdown on their new album WORSHIP MUSIC, kill a few rumors  and catch us up on their upcoming tour.  Read on….  (Thanks to Mitch at Bravewords and Heidi Robinson Fitzgerald PR for getting us in contact with Charlie!!)

Q:  Your new album, WORSHIP MUSIC is your first in 8 years and it debuted at #12 on the charts.   You've been in the game for a while, how does it feel to get a reception like that from your audience?

A:  It's amazing.  We debuted on a week when all these great bands were putting out albums, Primus, Dream Theater, STAIND and another one too. They had theirs come out the same day so yeah it is really, really cool and it just goes to show everyone that this music is still important and we're all still making records people wanna hear.  I am so happy that we sold that many records, it is a huge, huge achievement for us as a band.

Q:  The best thing I can say is that it literally took me back to 1991 seeing you guys on the Clash of the Titans tour sitting there in the dark just watching you kill.  It sounded that fresh and yet that familiar to me, at this point is that a good or bad thing?

A:  That's awesome (laughs).  That's good for me.  That's the thing about this record.  If music takes you somewhere that makes you happy, if it takes you back a bit to when things were a little different and gives you those feelings, to me that's what music should do.  Music should ultimately take you to a different place, you know?  Hopefully it doesn't take you to a dark place (laughs).  To me that's great.  I'm a huge BEATLES fan so I use that as an example.  Even though they're from the 60s there are times where I will hear them and they inspire me all over again.  There are all these reissues and I always find myself listening with "new ears" so to speak….I don't know if that makes sense to you?

Q:  No, I can totally relate.  I got into the Beatles in the 90s so every time I hear them I find myself remembering the first time I discovered them.

A:  Right.  The BEATLES are just timeless like that.  That's how music is supposed to be and I think that's the really great thing about music and making records.  That ability to take people places.

Q:  There's definitely something to be said for having Joey back up front singing for the band.  I enjoyed all the John Bush era albums but there's just something  really important as far as having that original chemistry in a band.  Still, the dumbass internet being what it is, there's always an ongoing argument and there's even a web page titled "I won't be buying the new Anthrax album without John Bush".

I wanna clear up a few misconceptions in this interview.  For starters, what do you say to people who think that you never really wanted Joey back in the band or that he is only back because he was your last choice?

A:  Well…….I've seen things here and there that say things like that but I have to say when this whole BIG 4 tour with Metallica was gonna take place there was only one person who a lot of us in the band thought should do it and that person was JOEY.  He was there in the 80s with us and this whole experience touring and recording  with Joey was quite a bit of revelation for the rest of us in the band.  His contribution to the band is UNDENIABLE.  This is the best he's ever sounded and I think we sound the best we've ever sounded as a band and for once we've just let this thing go and let it be organic and let Anthrax be what it wanted to be.  You know, there's a lot of people who are gonna talk shit about bands, they do it ALL the time.  I equate it to like sports people because it becomes that way, like people are on TEAM JOEY or some people are on TEAM BUSH.  What we kept thinking while making it was "Ok, let's just let this happen, just let it happen and THEN let fans hear it and make a decision".  Don't be so stupid as to say, "Oh, I will never buy another thing from them if they get back with Joey",  It's like….."Ok, you like the BAND, why don't you just wait and then make the decision to like it or not like it after you hear it".  That's the way it should be, it shouldn't be a predetermined "Oh, I'm never gonna go near that because I know I'm not gonna like it" kind of thing.  If that was the case than I would have never listened to Van Halen with Sammy, I would have just been like "NEVER!!!"  How can you really be like that?

Q:  Actually it's much worse, it's kind of  more like people saying they would never buy a new Van Halen record with David Lee Roth.  You guys made your mark with Joey, he was an important part of what put you on the map to begin with.  If someone even suggested an organized movement against the new Van Halen with Dave album they'd be insane wouldn't they?

A:  Yeah!!!  It's ridiculous and to me that's not the way to be but of course nowadays with the internet everyone has a voice no matter what.  You can have big balls and say totally out there things and it's easy to hide behind your keyboard and anonymity.  It's easy to have internet balls and it's a whole other story to say something to somebody's face.

Q:  I'm sure half of them at least ran right out to buy the new ANTHRAX album regardless of what they post, you know?

A:  I hope so (laughs).  It's so easy to hide behind that enter key (laughs).  It's like "Comon, really?  I know you're just saying this shit to stir shit up and get attention or drama".  I think we're kind of over it at this point.

Q:  I know some longtime fans and friends of mine that have supported the band through all the lineups can get frustrated.  They have occasionally felt like things were said or done by you or Scott have alienated other members of the band or worse yet alienated the fans.  They feel like this lineup of the band is inevitably going to change and they can never get comfortable.  Do you think that the fans who've felt jerked around or alienated are justified in feeling that way?

A:  They probably feel that way because of the last 6 or seven years, yeah.  They probably feel that there's not a solid foundation because of things that have happened over the last couple of years.    I don't blame them for saying stuff like that but I will say in our defense that Joey's been with us now for quite a while and it's totally different than it was when we first did the Reunion tour (2005).  This is a much more real, much more organic thing and a much more natural thing.  Nobody is forcing anyone to be here, everyone is here because they wanna be here and as you can hear when you play the record it is a REALLY solid unit.  Nobody wants to see this end or go do another thing right now.  That's basically the truth.  It's kind of been chaos for the last few years before this and a lot of us have tried to deal with it as best we can without it being documented but a lot of it has still BEEN documented.  I am embarrassed about a lot of the way things went down in the public eye and on the internet, a lot of that stuff was SO beyond our control.  It was just one slap in the face after another.  It was truly hard to deal with you know and believe me it was more embarrassing for me than anything and all the more reason to be happy right now.

Q:  The last misconception and probably the most widely reported  is that WORSHIP MUSIC was already completed and in the can when you got back with Joey so he really made no contribution to the album and had no say whatsoever.  He just stood with a lyric sheet and did what he was told.  Any thoughts?

A:  That's not true.  It's not cool and it's really not true.  To kind of get my point across to everyone, when Joey was doing the vocals on the record it was just he and Jay Ruston (co-producer).  Those were the only people in the room, none of us were there.  The reason why none of us were there was because we spent a lot of time on tour going over the songs prior to getting back to working on the record.  We had already been doing the songs with Joey and he felt comfortable with the material.  He just did it.  His performance on the record and the way he applied himself to each song was AWESOME.  His approach was classic and really, really fit the song.  He put in a performance that is probably his best since "SPREADING THE DISEASE".

Q:  If you watch some of the performances recently like the secret club gig you guys just did in New York it's obvious.  Not only is he singing better than ever on the album but he's not mailing it in live like some singers have a tendency to do.  When he sings a song like "A.I.R." or "Caught in a Mosh" you almost would think it was 1987 if it weren't for all the cell phones in the air, you know?

A:  Joey's great.  He commands the crowd and is one of the best frontmen in metal.  When he comes out onstage it's almost like the crowd is blown back.  His presence commands your attention.  He's the ringleader when he's out there on stage.  It's really fun whether he's doin the old stuff or the new stuff from WORSHIP MUSIC.

Q:  The whole album is a highlight, one song that really stands out to me is "The Constant".  It's an example of the synergy between melody and crunch that you do so well.  How did the music for that come together and who plays that haunting acoustic guitar line that runs through it?

A:  I came up with that part and  play that acoustic part on the record.  That was one of the first songs written for the album.  I came off of the previous Reunion tour with a bunch of ideas and one of them was that.  That was one of the original, original songs that we had written for this new album.  It was cool because it wasn't a fast, thrashy type of thing, it just had this big groove in it.  We got the idea for the chorus and back then it was one of those songs we were just playing all the time and it stuck.  That one ,"Revolution Screams" and "Fight Em Til You Can't" were the early ones we had before the record started to take shape.

Q:  Once again an Anthrax album has some really amazing artwork, how did you guys arrive at the title and the art this time around?

A:  I came up with the title one night when I fell asleep watching TV.  I woke up at like 5 in the morning and the TV was on one of these Sunday morning religious shows it was called "Worship Music".  The title just stayed with me because to me it represented something totally different than what I was seeing on the screen.  To me, as a heavy metal, hard rock fan and to most fans, the way they feel about a band or music  is that it's something they LOVE.  They read everything on the band, they buy everything of the band, they go and see them every time they can afford to do so when the bands come around.  In some cases they even travel around seeing the band.  It's a form of worship, myself included, I WORSHIP music.  I cannot go a day without listening to something that either gets me through a shitty day or inspires me somehow, shit like that dude, that's why music is so awesome.  That's how Worship Music came to be.  The art was designed by Alex Ross.  I was introduced by Alex back in 2002 I think.  I approached him about doing the cover for our last record, "We've Come For You All" because I've always been a fan of his comic book work, his artwork stands out.  He was totally into it when I approached him and he did it and did a few more pieces for us.  I talked to him again about doing the art for Worship Music and he just kind of ran with it.

Q:  There's the Pentathrax logo and all these souls and what looks like an evil version of the classic NOT! Man on the cover.  Do you just want the fans to draw their own meaning from the cover art?

A:  I would like for people to consider these covers as a collection of artwork that at some point will all be tied together, whether it's a comic book or some type of illustration.  It's in my head and I'm still trying to work on it.

Q:  Do you get as much satisfaction from doing all the behind the scenes work you do like guitar playing and songwriting,  designing merchandise as you do playing drums on "Madhouse"?

A:  It's actually more fun to tell the truth.  I love putting my idea hat on and allowing the artist in me to do those things.  That kind of stuff just really makes me happy.

Q:  Sometimes when a band has as much time to work on an album as you guys took for Worship Music you have to make sure you don't start overanalyzing and second guessing the project.  Was that ever a concern given the long gap between albums?

A:  The only reason we would second guess something is because we had no choice but to second guess things (laughs).  The best thing for us was that we had a chance to step back and let the material breathe and figure out what worked or what needed more work.  That was actually something that  we usually never get a chance to do.  We finally had that luxury to go back and figure out what needed more work or what needed more attention.  That was actually the greatest thing that could have happened was for us to have that insight to figure it out because we really weren't happy with the way the songs turned out initially for this album.  They just weren't RIGHT.  That extra time really gave us a chance to hone in and figure out what it was that we didn't like or what wasn't right

Q:  Is that all the more reason that people who don't think Joey contributed or it wasn't a band effort are wrong?

A:  Oh yeah.  They absolutely are wrong.  Three songs were left from the original performances.  The rest were either new songs written after Joey had rejoined the band or other songs that were completely re-recorded and reworked.  He afforded us that chance to go back and revisit everything and make it better.

Q:  One of the last things the classic lineup of Anthrax did as a band was the Married With Children episode, "My Dinner With Anthrax".  Do you ever catch it on reruns and what do you think about when you see that footage?

A:  Sometimes I stumble upon it and it brings me back to a time that was one of the best weeks of our career.  That was such a FUN thing to do and the memories I have from it are unforgettable.  It really was truly one of those honest to god moments that you will never forget.  We had a ball, it was SUCH a great opportunity.

Q:  I keep reading about Dave Mustaine and Tom Araya having all these neck and back problems from years of head banging.  Is Frankie okay after doing the Big Four shows?

A:  (laughs hard)  Yeah, we're all okay.

Q:  This new tour is really going to make the old diehards piss their pants and die happy.  Death Angel, Testament and Anthrax.  Are you friggin kiddin me Charlie?

A:  (laughs).  That was kind of the idea we had after doing the Big 4.  When we went out on our tour for the new album we wanted to do something with the second wave of thrash bands.  We put this together with the guys from Testament and we think it's gonna be awesome.  We're gonna be able to work in more songs and more new songs.  We're gonna take it day by day and try to mix the set up as best we can from show to show.

Q:  You guys wrote the song "In The End" for Dimebag and Ronnie James Dio about  how much they meant to you and how they changed your lives.  The way you guys are speaking about those guys is how a lot of your fans feel about your band.   How does it feel or how do you deal with YOUR fans telling you those same things.  How does it make you feel  when someone tells you that you're the best drummer in the world or you changed their life?

A:  It's awesome.  It never gets old.  I get so many emails a day and especially since the record came out I get all these people getting ahold of me to tell me how much they love the music.  Our fans are very honest in telling us what songs they like or what songs hit them the hardest.  It's such an awesome thing to have the kind of feedback we get from our people who really, genuinely LOVE the band and LOVE our music.  It's a great thing, the other day I was at the Cubs game and all of these people made it a point to come up to me and tell me that they bought the album and they love it and they love the band.  It's so cool when they go "Thank you for making a HEAVY METAL album!".  That's the best.

According to TMZ.com, former OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist and current BLACK LABEL SOCIETY mainman Zakk Wylde has obtained a long-term restraining order against his 20-year-old neighbor who allegedly left a creepy sacrificial offering outside Zakk's home.

Zakk was in court Friday in Los Angeles where he testified his neighbor knocked on his door one day, shirtless, wanting to talk.

Zakk says he sent the guy home, but the next morning, he noticed the neightbor had left behind a "sacrifice" containing several bizarre objects, including a guitar covered in Sharpie marker and a boxcutter.

Zakk cited another incident where the neighbor allegedly broke into Wylde's home studio proclaiming, "I must assert my dominance!"

According to Zakk's wife, the neighbor has been obsessed with her husband forever — calling him "The Master" — and she's afraid to live next to him.

The neighbor, whom Zakk described as "mentally ill" and diagnosed with Bipolar Type 1 disorder (considered the most severe form of this mental illness), was ordered to stay at least 50 yards away from Zakk and his family for the next three years.

SHADOWS FALL will enter the studio in October to begin recording their new album for an early 2012 release.

SHADOWS FALL's latest CD, "Retribution", came out on September 15, 2009. The effort sold around 13,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 35 on The Billboard 200 chart. The album was made available via Everblack Industries, the label SHADOWS FALL created in conjunction with Warner Music Group's ILG, Ferret Music and ChannelZERO Entertainment.

SHADOWS FALL's "Madness In Manila: Shadows Fall Live In The Philippines 2009" concert DVD/CD was released on October 25, 2010 via Everblack Industries/Ferret Music. The set includes over 60 minutes of footage that was shot on April 30, 2009 at the Pulp Summer Slam in Manila, Philippines as well as a live audio CD.

A new video update from former HANOI ROCKS guitarist Andy McCoy can be seen below.

McCoy recently completed work on the debut album from his side project GREASE HELMET (which features members of AMORPHIS) and has begun recording a new solo album for a 2012 release. McCoy says, "The first [GREASE HELMET] single will be out within two months and, in my opinion, it's some of the best shit I've ever done. Actually, whole band, we are all surprised by how well it's gone. This is gonna be a rock and roll record classic rock fans will love if they know their roots."

McCoy previously stated about his upcoming solo CD, "It will be released under the name Andy McCoy." He added, "There's already heavy interest from the labels. We are looking at the way to release it simultaneously worldwide."

Regarding the musical direction of the album, Andy stated, "I am really trying to get back to my roots with the new material."

McCoy's decadent autobiography, "Sheriff McCoy: Legend of Hanoi Rocks", is available in English in a deluxe hardcover edition through North American publisher Bazillion Points.

A national icon in his native Finland, McCoy has been called the Finnish Keith Richards — except Richards only fell out of a coconut tree; Andy McCoy fell from a fourth-story balcony and lived to tell the tale. His over-the-top image and streetwise bending of punk, glam, and old-fashioned rock 'n' roll inspired a generation of platinum-selling bands — rock authors Slash of GUNS N' ROSES and Nikki Sixx of MÖTLEY CRÜE have already admitted their musical and stylistic debts. Now the real McCoy speaks from the heart on subjects including rock stardom, true love, his arsenal of vintage guitars, and surviving every imaginable variety of intoxication.

"The Hunter" was recorded at Doppler Studios in Atlanta with producer Mike Elizondo. Drum tracks were previously completed in Los Angeles at the legendary Sound City Studios where NIRVANA's masterwork "Nevermind" was recorded.

According to Michael Schenker's record label, MVD Entertainment Group, the previously announced "3 Guitar Heroes" tour featuring Schenker, Uli Jon Roth and Leslie West has been postponed until earl 2012 due to West's recent partial leg amputation. More information will be made available at a later date.

On the plans for this excursion, West previously stated, "I am honored to be a part of the '3 Guitar Heroes' tour with Uli Roth and Michael Schenker.

"My manager Bob [Ringe] and I have been discussing a run like this for ages, and when the opportunity came up I hopped on board. That's right — the guy who just had his leg amputated.

"These guys are monster players and this should be a lot of fun."

Added Michael Schenker, "It is very exciting to be part of a tour that has very deeply rooted connections with two guitarists that have been at their best since the start of their careers.

"When I was around 14 years old, I saw a guy on stage playing amazing guitar. It was Uli, and he was around my age. Three years later while with the SCORPIONS, I chose to join UFO and found the best possible replacement in Uli. I knew my brother Rudolf and Klaus were in good hands.

"When I was 16 years old, Leslie West was one of my favorite guitarists. He had just recorded 'Theme For An Imaginary Western' with MOUNTAIN, a song featuring one of my all-time favorite lead-breaks on it. Looking back, Leslie is the last guitarist I ever copied seeing that from when I was 17 on, I went completely my own way.

"So, here we are after all these years on stage together, celebrating the phenomenon — rock guitar."

The "3 Guitar Heroes" tour is booked by Wayne Forte and Ben Shprits at Entourage Talent, and managed by Bob Ringe of Survival Management.

"Heritage", the new album from Swedish progressive metallers OPETH, entered the official U.K. chart at position No. 22 and the U.K. Rock Albums chart at No. 1.

"Heritage" is likely to sell between 15,000 and 18,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on September 20 via Roadrunner Records.

OPETH's previous studio CD, 2008's "Watershed", opened with more than 19,000 units to land at No. 23 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"Watershed" was the follow-up to the band's acclaimed "Ghost Reveries" CD, which debuted at No. 64 on the Billboard chart back in September 2005 with first-week sales of just under 15,000. OPETH's 2003 album, "Damnation", opened with a little over 5,000 copies.

"Heritage" was produced by OPETH vocalist/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt and was recorded earlier this year at Atlantis studios (formerly Metronome studios) in Stockholm. Mixing duties were handled by Steven Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE) and Åkerfeldt. Longtime collaborator Travis Smith also worked with Åkerfeldt to create, design and execute the album's artwork, which can be seen below.

"Heritage" was released in several configurations that will certainly incite the interest of OPETH's legion of fans, known for their passion for collecting and collectibles. The album was made available as a standard version; as a special edition loaded with extras; as a box set exclusive to the Roadrunner and the band's own official Omerch webstore; and as a double LP.

STORM CORROSION, the much-anticipated collaboration project between OPETH's Mikael Åkerfeldt and PORCUPINE TREE's Steven Wilson, has completed work on its self-titled debut album for an April 2012 release through an as-yet-undicslosed record label.

In a fall 2010 interview with the U.K. branch of Roadrunner Records, Wilson stated about STORM CORROSION, "It's nice to know that what [Mikael and I] always suspected was that when we actually got together [and began collaborating on songs], it was gonna be quite easy. It was also in the back of your mind, thinking, 'Maybe it won't work.' Maybe it [was] just built up so much [in my head before we started writing material], and it was so easy. So easy. And the music was so crazy and so inspiring to both of us. So I think that was good to feel, like, 'It's gonna work.'"

Regarding the similarities and differences between PORCUPINE TREE and OPETH and how they play into STORM CORROSION, Wilson said, "The funny thing is that the music we're making together is actually nothing like either of us made before. Because I think we both had this idea of this kind of music that we knew we couldn't get our bands to play, but that we both kind of understood where we were coming from. 'Cause we have this kind of passion [for] very experimental, obscure records, almost orchestral in their scope. And we wanted to make a record like that for a long time."

He continued, "It's a long way from metal and it's a long way from anything that, I think, Mikael has ever done, including the 'Damnation' record [from OPETH].

"I think a lot of people thought, 'Oh, it's gonna be like 'Damnation'.' It's not; it's a long way from that, too. And it's actually a long way from anything I've done; [it's] possibly closer to aspects of things I've done, but really quite distinct from anything I've ever [released]. [It's] very orchestral, lots of strings, lots of guitars and vocals, too. Lots of very long songs that kind of go in different directions that you don't necessarily expect them to go in — almost theatrical in a way. And we both kind of admitted to ourselves that there are a lot of fans out there that are probably gonna hate it. But we're doing it for us."

He added, "The one thing we didn't wanna do is get together and do a prog-metal supergroup, which would have been so easy to do — and kind of expected, in a way. And, you know, we might do that anyway one day. But this time around, we thought, 'Let's just do this [kind of] record.'

"Some people will love it and some people will not, and that's OK, because, in a way, I don't think we wanted to just give what was expected, and we're certainly not doing that."

On the topic of the recording process for STORM CORROSION and whether Steven and Mikael are self-producing the new project, Wilson said, "It's great, because in many respects, Mikael is the closest I know to someone who is... How do I put this? He's the equivalent of me in his band. He's like the captain of the ship and we kind of understand each other — all the frustrations of being in that position, all the stresses and pressures of being in that situation — so because of that, there's no ego thing at all — yet! [Laughs] But we're both kind of control freaks, in a way, so that's kind of a strange situation to be, where you're working with someone where you don't feel any of those issues and you have that complete trust. So we're just like... [I go], 'Here, you have the guitar. Do something amazing.' And he does. And then I'm like, 'Oh, I've got an idea for that,' and I do some keyboard thing. And he's like, 'That's amazing! I love that.' And so it's really... It sounds like we're kind of blowing each other the whole time... [Laughs] But it's just so much fun. And that's the important thing — I think it's fun. Because there's no ego and there's no pressure. Because people don't know what to expect."

He continued, "We've kind of already resigned ourselves to the fact that we're gonna do something that people are gonna hate, anyway. I mean, I'm exaggerating... I'm sure a lot of people are gonna dig it. But people are gonna be surprised by it.

"We're not giving people what they expect, so there's little pressure, really — there's very little pressure. It's just literally swapping instruments and I'm kind of recording it on my own system."

Although former DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy was initially supposed to be part of the project, it now appears that he will no longer be involved.

"To be honest, there's just no room for drums on what we've done so far," Åkerfeldt told Classic Rock magazine last year. "I called Mike up, and he was cool about it. He's got so much going on anyway, and I'm sure we will work together in the future."

Las Vegas, Nevada-based metallers FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will perform on the Wednesday, October 26 episode of ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" (which will actually air the morning of Thursday, October 27). Fans are encouraged to attend the outdoor taping, which will take place on October 12 at the El Capitan Theater, located one block south of Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and Orange streets, in Hollywood, California. The band is scheduled to perform two songs.

Greece's Rock Overdose recently conducted an interview with bassist Jonas Björler of Swedish metallers THE HAUNTED and AT THE GATES. The chat can now be streamed using the audio player below.

THE HAUNTED's seventh studio album, "Unseen", sold around 1,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 33 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Unseen" was released on March 29 via Century Media Records. The CD was once again recorded with longtime producer Tue Madsen (MOONSPELL, DARK TRANQUILLITY, GOREFEST, SICK OF IT ALL) at his Antfarm Studio in Århus, Denmark.

In addition to the regular CD as well as a limited LP version (180-gram black vinyl with the full album on CD as bonus!) and the digital download format of the record, a very special limited edition (pictured on top!) of "Unseen" was released in Europe as a silver-foil-wrapped digipak, including not only classy packaging and extended artwork but also three bonus audio tracks: The brand new song "Attention" as well as radio-session live versions of the tracks "The Reflection" and "The Fallout".

British extreme metal pioneers BOLT THROWER have issued the following update:

"Anniversaries are kind of easy to achieve. For a band, just don't split up and you'll reach one, whether it's 10, 20 or 35 years. And this year we've reached '25 years of not splitting up!' We managed to stop others from making a big fuss about it, and didn't give in to the numerous offers and suggestions on how we should cash in on it! But it has made us appreciate the opportunities we've been given since 1986, and that we've been able to do everything we wanted to do without compromising in any way.

"We've been lucky enough to have played a lot of killer shows with great bands and met a lot of very cool people over the years, and we think that's the stuff that deserves some kind of celebration. So, we want to organize a 'Bolty Birthday Bash', where we can reunite with some of these bands and invite you, the people who have supported us over the last 25 years.

"We were hoping to have everything worked out by now, but it turns out organizing a free show comes with its own unique problems, but we'll get there in the end!

"Well, that's all we can say for now, there will be more news to come soon."

As previously reported, the last three albums from BOLT THROWER"Mercenary" (1998), "Honour Valour Pride" (2001) and "Those Once Loyal" (2005) — will be reissued on vinyl on October 24 via Metal Blade Records. All three albums will be released as gatefold LPs in colored vinyl, limited to 1.000 units each.

BOLT THROWER indefinitely postponed plans to record a new studio album after the band realized that the new stuff it had written "just doesn't match up" to the group's last CD, "Those Once Loyal". "We have a lot of pride in our back catalogue, and we refuse to turn into one of the many bands (like the ones we grew up listening to) who end up releasing crap, and we're also not prepared to compromise by instead releasing an album of cover versions or a 'best-of' album," BOLT THROWER explained in a statement.

"Those Once Loyal" entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 76 — the group's highest-charting release in Germany so far. The follow-up to 2001's "Honour, Valour, Pride" was recorded at Andy Faulkner's Sable Rose studios and was the band's first album since the return of original vocalist Karl Willetts as a full-time member.

Bassist Janne Jarvis has left veteran rockers WARRIOR SOUL. He explains in a statement, "After three years and some great shows, it's time to move on. My commitments with HATE GALLERY [in which Janne plays bass and sings. — Ed.] have made it impossible to carry on. I also have another very exciting project which will reveal itself in the coming months."

He added, "Kory [Clarke, WARRIOR SOUL mainman] and I go back a long way and it's good to leave on a high note and I'm proud of the album we made together. I wish him all the best."

HATE GALLERY's second album, "Viva La Resistance", will be released on November 21, with live shows to be announced.

The band will perform at Dom in Helsinki, Finland on October 21, followed by an appearance in Tampere, Finland the next day.

Cult San Francisco Bay Area thrashers ULYSSES SIREN have completed work on a new four-song demo and are currently seeking a record deal. Any labels interested in getting a copy can contact Tambre Management at tambrerocks@yahoo.com.

Los Angeles-based band THE DREAMING, which features former members of STABBING WESTWARD, MURDERDOLLS and LIVING DEAD LIGHTS, has inked a deal with Epochal Artists Records. The group's new album, "Puppet", will be released on November 1. A single, "Every Trace", is impacting radio now and already lighting up phone lines on stations like KUPD in Phoenix, KXXR in Minneapolis, WIIL in Chicago and WAQX in Syracuse.

Formed in 2005 by frontman Christopher Hall, the voice behind platinum rock outfit STABBING WESTWARD, THE DREAMING assembles and all-star roster of musicians including Johnny Haro on drums (ex-ECONOLINE CRUSH, STABBING WESTWARD), guitarist Eric Griffin (ex-MURDERDOLLS, WEDNESDAY 13), and bassist Martin Kelly (ex-LIVING DEAD LIGHTS). Since its inception, THE DREAMING has toured relentlessly with the likes of ILL NINO, GODHEAD, RA, TRUST COMPANY, FLAW, JULIEN-K, POWERMAN 5000 and WEDNESDAY 13.

"After the death of STABBING WESTWARD, Johnny and I immediately put all our heart and soul into THE DREAMING. We spent a lot of time working on our songs and live show in hopes that we would find the right team to get behind this band. After several years bouncing between managers and potential labels, we found a proper home with Epochal Artists Records," commented Christopher Hall. "Epochal Artists Records understood what we were trying to do, they believe in our music and they are ready to work our album for the long haul. I am so proud to be the first release on E.A.R. and so excited to be releasing 'Puppet' with them at the helm."

Sleaze Roxx recently conducted an interview with CHICKENFOOT guitarist Joe Satriani. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Sleaze Roxx: One thing I like about CHICKENFOOT is that the drums and bass don't have to fight their way through the vocals or the guitar. You don't overplay on the album, you play what the song needs then you kick in with the solo. Was this all done by design or is this how things turn out when you get together?

Joe Satriani: It's a natural thing. The sound that we make as a unit is so impressive and so delicious sounding that I'd hate to play all over it. To me, playing all over a recording is a dated style. You heard that in the '80s where a guitar player was all over the place while the singer is singing. We don't write music like that. That era was great, but it came and it went — we're in a different era. If you put on a guitar and you were playing with Michael Anthony and Chad Smith, you'd understand that you want to be part of it and not on top of it. When I was writing "Big Foot", I wanted to write a riff where the three of us could sound like a wall of sound — where we'd be so tight that no one would be the superstar except for Sam's [Hagar] vocal when he came in. The same goes with Sam, he doesn't want to over sing it, he wants to fit right in. Ultimately it makes for a larger sound when you have everyone joining forces rather than someone trying to be the superstar.

Sleaze Roxx: I have a friend who played me the opening section of the song "Big Foot" when you released it online. He said, "I bet you don't know who this is?" I replied, "Sounds like CHICKENFOOT to me," and he said to me, "How did you know?" It's the trademark sound. You guys have this swinging power funk groove that's rocking. There are two great examples of this on "III", "Big Foot" and "Up Next". Is this what happens sonically when you guys get together?

Joe Satriani: It's definitely a chemistry thing. The majority of this album had the music written in demo form by myself about a year ago. I had about three weeks in finishing my last solo album, "Black Swans And Wormhole Wizards", and the tour. I spent those three weeks in a very creative period. I wrote the majority of these songs having in mind exactly what you just said. I wanted to take advantage of the swing and forceful groove that I know Mike and Chad can play. I wanted to be able to join in with that. I wanted the riffs that I was writing to take full advantage of those musical elements. I wanted to leave plenty of room for Sam to come up with the kind of things that only he can come up with. When I started my solo tour, the guys had about 16 of my demos to think about for a period of about five months. When we went into the studio in February they had let a number of those germinate. When we played the song "Big Foot" for the first time, I went "Wow!" (laughs) It was like you said, and you said it very well, there's a swing to it and yet there's this heavy rock thing to it. It's just so unique and that is exactly what I was counting on when I wrote those riffs.

Sleaze Roxx: One thing that should be noted is that Chad Smith played on the album, but due to his commitment to the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, won't be playing live with you guys. Instead you have Kenny Aronoff doing live dates. How did you settle on Kenny for the sit-in drummer for Chad?

Joe Satriani: It was actually Chad's idea. We knew that this was going to happen a year ago, we just didn't talk about it. We knew it was going to happen but we figured we'd do the record first then worry about that later. (laughs) A few months ago we played in friendly situations with other drummers, and Chad said, "You guys have to get together with Kenny; he's the guy." We've all known Kenny for years, we've just never played on records with him or done any touring with him. The first time we played with him was a few weeks ago when we shot the video for the song "Big Foot". That was an amazing two days — he killed it. He's very professional and he has an enormous amount of influences, like Chad, that he brings out. Kenny has such a great personality, too. You'd think that Chad and he were brothers or related in some way; they have that same over-the-top energy and enthusiasm. They can do that swing thing and play straight rock at the same time. It's a very unique blend of styles and perfect for the FOOT.

The 10th-anniversary reissue of SLIPKNOT's sophomore album, "Iowa", will be made available on November 1 via Roadrunner Records. The 2CD/1DVD set will include the original album; previously unreleased live audio from the band's 2002 DVD "Disasterpieces"; and "Goat", an-hour long film capturing the insanity that was "Iowa".

A teaser trailer for the "Iowa" reissue can be found at Iowa.Slipknot1.com (click on the goat's stomach in order to view the clip).

The special-edition CD/DVD reissue of SLIPKNOT's self-titled debut album — which came out in September 2009 — sold around 4,600 copies in the United States in its first, shortened week of release (the set came out on Wednesday, September 9 whereas new albums usually go on sale on Tuesdays in the U.S.). The album has shifted more than two million units domestically, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

SLIPKNOT completed a European festival run earlier this summer, which marked the band's first live gigs since bassist Paul Gray's passing.

SLIPKNOT's last record, "All Hope Is Gone", was released in 2008.

COAL CHAMBER, the '90s alt-metal band fronted by current DEVILDRIVER singer Dez Fafara, will reform for next year's Soundwave festival in Australia.

Commented Dez: "COAL CHAMBER is playing Soundwave Down Under! These reunion shows are for the fans that want to see us again as well as all the people that never got to see COAL CHAMBER. It is and always will be a very special part of my life, so these few shows are for those people and for us.

"If you're not from Australia, better get a ticket now to come see this event!"

Added guitarist Miguel "Meegs" Rascón: "Australia has never seen us, nor have we seen them. It will be an extraordinary exchange of energy and adrenaline.

"Hello Aussies, nice to meet you!"

He continued, "This reunion will mark a decade since we last played together, so staring at my brothers on stage face to face will be an emotional rollercoaster for me. Tears of joy would be an understatement, to say the least.

"You know, all of us have gone through our separate journeys in life, but we're coming back to rekindle this and throw the past in the past and put the future in our hands."

Stated drummer Mike Cox: "Of all the great achievements COAL CHAMBER made in the past, getting back together after all we've been through will be the greatest achievement to date."

Concluded Dez: "We've all grown up and put the personal past behind us now and are moving forward with these few shows in a spirit of friendship through music.

"You must remember where you came from in order to know where you are going."

COAL CHAMBER rose to prominence with a gold-certified debut album in 1997 that established the group as one of the most promising bands on the then-emerging, so-called "nu metal" scene.

Nadja Peulen replaced COAL CHAMBER bassist Rayna Foss Rose in 1999 during Rose's pregnancy for almost 12 months while the band was on the road supporting its second album, "Chamber Music". Rayna came back to the band after her pregnancy leave and recorded COAL CHAMBER's third album, "Dark Days". Shortly after recording "Dark Days", Rayna quit the band and Nadja was recruited for the touring cycle that followed the CD's release. The band broke up during the "Dark Days" tour in 2002.

COAL CHAMBER 2012 lineup:

Dez Fafara - Vocals
Miguel "Meegs" Rascón - Guitar
Mike Cox - Drums
Chela Rhea Harper - Bass

ATTIKA 7 (formerly ATTIKA), the Los Angeles-based heavy metal/hard rock band featuring Tony Campos (SOULFLY, POSSESSED, STATIC-X, ASESINO, MINISTRY) on bass; Evan Seinfeld (BIOHAZARD) on vocals; songwriter and famed motorcycle builder Rusty Coones on guitar; and Dustin Schoenhofer (WALLS OF JERICHO, BURY YOUR DEAD) on drums, will release its debut album later this year. A video for the single "Serial Killer" is currently in the works.

The ATTIKA7 sound "boasts very heavy, down-tuned and melodic harmonies, all the while boasting brutal hooks and grooves," according to a press release. "The band draws from several musical influences, including their own additional projects, and has been compared to the likes of BLACK SABBATH, METALLICA, GODSMACK, PANTERA, and WHITE ZOMBIE. The timeless no-frills songwriting of ATTIKA 7 is set apart from today's homogenized, derivative copycat bands by so many things, but above all: authenticity."

The majority of the ATTIKA7 album was written by lifetime biker and ATTIKA 7 lead guitarist Rusty Coones while serving a seven-year federal prison sentence for a false conviction. Rather than rat on his friends, Rusty used the tension to teach himself how to play guitar in solitary confinement. The passion and street credibility in his lyrics and riffs speak to the underdogs of the world who will not break, will not bend, but stand against forever.

When Rusty called best friend and riding buddy Evan Seinfeld to check in on whether he knew of a singer who could join his band, Evan immediately jumped in without hesitation. Since then, Rusty and Evan have been writing, recording, living and breathing ATTIKA 7 and haven't looked back.

Evan feels that ATTIKA 7 is the beginning of a new chapter. "As much as BIOHAZARD has been the biggest part of my musical past and my main musical focus for more than two decades, it is time for me to do something new," states Evan. "It is time for me to cement my musical future. I continue to stand behind the ideals projected in songs I wrote like 'Down For Life'... and philosophies like standing up for what you believe in no matter what and sticking by your true friends and family to the end! I have so many creative ideas that needed a new home to flourish and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a member of ATTIKA 7! It is time for me to go on to something exciting and fresh to pursue my dreams and expand my horizons in a more positive situation for me. I hope to keep the memory of BIOHAZARD where it belongs, in a place of dignity and respect!"

The rebellious anthems of ATTIKA 7 speak volumes to the outlaws of society who refuse to compromise, refuse to fit in, refuse to play it safe, or refuse to sell out their beliefs, whatever they may be. Alison Richter of GuitarWorld.com recently conducted an interview with STATIC-X frontman Wayne Static about his upcoming solo album, "Pighammer". A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

GuitarWorld.com: When and where did you record this album?

Wayne: About a year and a half ago, we sold our house and moved out to the desert by Joshua Tree. There's a little studio here called Giant Rock Studio and we pretty much lived there for an entire year. I wrote and recorded at the same time, so it was a much different process. In the past I'd write a song, make demos, give the demos to the band, get together with the band, do a month of rehearsals and everyone changed things and added their own parts. Then we'd go to another studio and try to recreate some kind of excitement that I had when I wrote the songs, which I think gets lost by the end of that process. This time, I was recording while I was writing, so there's a lot of excitement captured in the recordings. I played everything on the record, and my wife [Tera Wray] did the female vocal bits here and there. I produced and I had an engineer, Jack Keener, helping me out. I've known him for a few years, but this was the first time we worked together. It's good to have somebody there to work the machinery and turn the knobs, because sometimes it's a lot to do by yourself and you get more caught up in turning knobs than performing.

GuitarWorld.com: Did you miss interacting and collaborating with a band?

Wayne: No, not really. I've always written by myself. I've never been in a situation where the whole band sat in a room and wrote a song. I don't work that way. I always write by myself, and it was really very comfortable and very rewarding to not have to compromise.

GuitarWorld.com: Did any of the songs change gears during the tracking process?

Wayne: I'm always working on multiple songs at a time. There's usually a couple of songs on the record that come together relatively fast, a day or two, but most of the songs are a process over many months where I'll work on a song until I get bored with it, set it aside and move on to something else. Some of the songs I never come back to. After months, if I still come back to it and get excited, then I know it's good.

GuitarWorld.com: What is your preferred method for tracking vocals?

Wayne: I did it the same way I recorded all my demos for STATIC-X to present to the band. I start with a drum loop, add some keyboards and guitars and build it up from there. It's just a natural way of doing things for me. It's the way I've always done it, and the vocal usually comes last. I usually have rhythmic ideas during the whole process, but I generally don't write lyrics until the very end and then record that. There is no editing on this. I didn't record on a computer. I recorded 24 tracks, so everything is what it is. It's all live performances, obviously punched in here and there, but I didn't do any editing. I don't like to do any editing on guitars. I think the more editing you do, it just takes away from the feel of the performance. That's the way I recorded vocals, even when we did record on Pro Tools. I never really liked the whole computer-editing thing. It just takes all the soul out of it.

GuitarWorld.com: Did you double a lot of the parts?

Wayne: I figured out over the years what works for me. I double all my vocals. It gives it balls. I've been doing that for so long that it's really easy for me to double and have things pretty tight. Guitars, I do main left and right and then double things up on choruses at times.

Drummer Rob Rampy of hardcore/metal crossover pioneers D.R.I. (DIRTY ROTTEN IMBECILES) was sent to the hospital right before the group's Portland, Oregon show on Friday, September 23. Instead of cancelling the concert, the other members of D.R.I. used several local drummers (from such acts as MDC, SPELLCASTER, EXCRUCIATOR, DETHPROOF) and jammed on cover tunes.

New upstarts and support act DETHPROOF not only supplied D.R.I. with gear but also provided a drummer on the song "Thrashard". Check out video footage of the performance below.

Rampy remained in the hospital over the weekend, forcing D.R.I. to play with guest drummers again on Saturday, September 24 in Seattle, Washington.

D.R.I.'s classic 1987 album "Crossover" was reissued in April 2010 via Beer City Records. Available on LP, CD and as a digital download, the LP was remastered by Bill Metoyer, who was the engineer for the original recordings. The CD and digital version of the reissue include the original 13 songs plus 11 bonus tracks.

For the past 29 years, D.R.I. has been the epitome of the aggressive, hardcore-punk thrash sound that we've all become accustomed to hearing. Throughout this time, they've been one of the few genuine underground bands to remain true to their pure punk roots. Still actively touring and recording, the only thing that may have changed is that they're a little older now, but time hasn't gotten the best of the DIRTY ROTTEN IMBECILES. They're still thrashing just as hard, and just as loud as ever, continuing to overload our senses with the sound that is, and will always remain, uniquely D.R.I.

Dubai-based death/thrash metal band NERVECELL will open for METALLICA on October 25 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates at Yas Island.

Commented the band: "This is an historical event for heavy metal fans all across the Middle East and for NERVECELL to be a part of this is truly a dream come true and an absolute honor for us! We are thrilled beyond belief and cannot wait to share the stage with the biggest band in metal music ever... METALLICA! — a band whom we all grew up listening to at a very young age.

"METALLICA not only influenced us musically, but most importantly gave us the courage to pick up a musical instrument and become the metal musicians we are today. NERVECELL's last performance in Abu Dhabi dates back to the year 2004 and what better way than to come back to perform in the capital of the UAE again alongside METALLICA!"

NERVECELL's latest album, "Psychogenocide", was released on April 29 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland; and on May 2 in the rest of Europe through Lifeforce Records. The CD features guest vocals by guitarist/vocalist Karl Sanders of South Carolina-based extreme technical death metallers NILE on the song "Shunq (To The Despaired…King Of Darkness)".

The "Psychogenocide" cover artwork was designed by Björn Goosses of Killustrations (ABORTED, SEVERE TORTURE, ZYKLON) and is a concept which NERVECELL has been working on for quite a while. The band is said to be "extremely proud of how it has turned out" as it "perfectly matches the aggression and musical direction of the new album."
