I am the original poster, and I certainly didn't mean to cause any discord among fans. I think there has been some fruitful discussion, especially toward the idea that the lines--or list, rather--started too early.
I have to confess, if I had gone the night before and found I could receive a number and leave, then I would have. In our party we had two older kids and one adult with MS. Our main concern wasn't necessarily proximity to the band, but proximity to a rail. These three wanted something to hold on to. I was in Pittsburgh and could have easily gotten a number before bed, but I had no idea. I'm not on facebook, etc. I didn't see anything thing here about it, even though some of the early crowd are on this group. Obviously, even though it's not a secret, it's also not as widely spread as a lot of other U2 information. So, yeah, sucks for me and anyone else in a similar spot. Luckily, we all got a spot on the back rail (you know, the beer-getters path.)
I don't consider anyone a Nazi. That term is not appropriate for this subject. (I guess "Line Taliban" is also inappropriate? Just kidding.) There are problems with the "system", however, and hopefully next tour there will be another way, like a helpful venue such as Boston or at least wider publishing of information. The list holders could have said "Come back at 5am for your first number" and left it at that. Or people could have just waited. That was possible in Pittsburgh. Additionally, a sign could have been put up at the GA entrance earlier than it was.
Anyway, thanks for all the responses. THANK YOU TO ALL TAPERS!
Until next time!
Peace to all,
Kate
