Kazoo (in the musical sense) usually refers to a voice modifying device that uses a separate membrane, that is a thin material like a drum head, added to the body of the device.
There are other devices that operate like a kazoo, that is, the pitch produced is controlled by the player's voice which is amplified and distorted by the device, but in which the vibrating surface(s) is part or all of the body of the device. These vibrating surfaces may be rigid, semi-rigid, or flexible.
If the vibrating surface is flexible, it can be held in shape by 1) attaching to itself to form a tube, cone, etc. 2) being supported by a frame, such as tissue paper over a comb, 3) being held by the player's hands.
Should these others be considered kazoos?
If not how might they be classified?
