The
search is on to find a new home for a classic car once owned by Led Zeppelin
drummer John Bonham.
Bruce
Screen has been the proud owner of the 1915 Ford Model T since he swapped it
for another car 11 years ago.
But
for most of this time it has been cooped up in a locked garage gathering dust.
So
now the 64-year-old from Blackheath wants it to go to a museum where it can be
more appreciated.
"It
needs to be seen and looked after," he said. "I'd be interested to hear from
people with ideas about where it could go."
Father-of-two
Mr Screen said: "Everyone asks what it is worth but the truth is there is no
way of knowing because it's unique. I'm too frightened to drive it on the
roads."
Anyone
who can suggest a suitable museum for the car should email enquiries@cypressnursery.co.uk

Black Sabbath manager Jim Simpson has dusted off his photo albums to unearth a
spectacular display of 60s and 70s music legends performing in Birmingham
and the Black Country.
BirminghamTown Hall features among the images, along with the Kingfisher, in
Kingswinford, and Kings Heath Plaza.
The
images capture rock and roll stars such as Bill Haley and Jerry Lee Lewis
through to the Move, The Rolling Stones and Rod Steward backstage and in
concert.
The
photographs are from Jim's personal collection of negatives, many of which have
been unseen for 40 years.
Also
included in the compilation is a photograph of Black Sabbath, in one of their
earliest press shots, on a grass verge outside Jim's house in Birmingham.
They're
currently on display at Wednesbury Museum and Art Gallery.
And
a second exhibition opens at the end of the month at Haden Hill House Museum,
in Cradley Heath.
Sandwell
Council museums' service officer Jane Hanney said: "Some of the pictures are
amazing. There's one of a Little Richard Concert at West Bromwich Town Hall and you can
even make out the wallpaper in the background."
The
collection features around 80 photographs altogether.
The
exhibition at Wednesbury Museum runs alongside Heavy
Metal and Hard times running until December. The Cradley Heath exhibition runs
until the beginning of September.
Sandwell's
cabinet member for leisure services, Coun Linda Horton, said: "The photographs
are a fascinating archive and will appeal to all ages."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, KISS founders Gene
Simmons and Paul Stanley are collaborating with rock journalist Ken
Sharp on "Nothin' To Lose", an oral history of the band's
early years, from its inception in 1973 to the 1975 release of its classic
concert album "Alive!" Due in the summer of 2012 via IT
Books, an imprint of HarperCollins, the book will include
never-before-published photographs along interviews with original KISS drummer Peter Criss and guitarist Ace Frehley, as well as other
'70s rock musicians and behind-the-scenes players.
IT Books editor Denise Oswald told The Hollywood Reporter about the project. "KISS is one of the most beloved and influential
hard rock bands of the last forty years. What is particularly fascinating about
this project is about how the band got off the ground, how they came up with
the concept of who they were that so defined them and captured the love and
imagination of all of their fans. . . [The book is] also an amazing depiction
of New York in the early Seventies — it's Manhattan, it's Queens, you have
members of the RAMONES, members of BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, touring with
and playing with KISS. You really get this incredible portrait of a time."
JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford — who
revealed he was homosexual during a 1998 appearance on MTV — has slammed
as "childish" the newly adopted legislation calling for a
"Heterosexual Pride Day" to be celebrated on the third Sunday of each
December in São Paulo, Brazil.
The proposal now rests in the hands of São
Paulo mayor Gilberto Kassab, who must sign the
legislation for it to become law.
In late June, the Washington Post reported that evangelical leaders in São Paulo were pushing a
"Heterosexual Pride Day" after being unable to rid the city of its
"Gay Pride" parade.
The legislation's author, Carlos Apolinário, said the idea for a
'Heterosexual Pride Day' is "not anti-gay but a protest against the
privileges the gay community enjoys."
"I respect gays and I am against any kind of aggression made against
them," Apolinário said, according to the Associated Press. "I have no trouble coexisting with
gays as long as their behavior is normal."
The Brazilian Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Association criticized the legislation, saying it could provoke homophobic violence.
"How many LGBTs will be attacked because of the message that only
heterosexuality makes someone a moral person and a good citizen," the
association said in a statement.
"The celebration of heterosexual pride is inappropriate because it
belittles the just cause of the LGBT community," the statement added.
"Unlike homosexuals, heterosexuals are not discriminated against simply
for being heterosexuals."
Speaking to Brazil's Globo from his hotel room in Barcelona, Halford was astonished to hear the news. "'Heterosexual Pride Day'?
Like the 'Gay Pride Day'? I think ... well ... [silence] Brazil has
always had a straight-pride parade — it's called the Carnival, right?"
He continued, "[Gays] are a minority which has been terribly oppressed
over the years. We need to have a voice. Once we have the same rights as
heterosexuals have, we may no longer need a gay parade. But it is a party,
that's all. It is no different than going to a metal show where everybody gets
together and celebrates."
Halford added that, in his opinion, creating a "Heterosexual Pride
Day" is a "childish" idea.
When asked in a December 2009 interview with the Dallas Voice if he has
a particularly gay audience, Halford said, "I have my gay metalhead
fans all over the world. Sometimes they are so obvious from stage but it's
still a wonderful surprise."
Regarding how it has been since he came out more than 10 years ago, Halford said, "It gives me a lot of comfort and it was a weight off my shoulders.
There is a lot of phobia in metal music, but me coming out chips away at that
wall, bit by bit. It just crossed my mind that I had no negative feedback. Fans
were cool, and that speaks volumes for the better world we're in. We have come
forward by leaps and bounds."

DIO DISCIPLES pays tribute to the legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie
James Dio and is fully supported by Dio's widow/manager, Wendy,
who recently posted that "there will never be another Ronnie, but
we want to keep his music alive and hope you will support the band and become
one of the DIO DISCIPLES."
Professionally filmed video footage of DIO DISCIPLES's performance at
this year's edition of the Graspop Metal Meeting, which took place June
24-26, 2011 in Dessel, Belgium, can be viewed below.
Sarzo was unable to take part in DIO DISCIPLES' recent European
tour and was temporarily replaced by James Lomenzo (MEGADETH, BLACK
LABEL SOCIETY, WHITE LION).
In an interview with Metal
Assault, Simon stated about how DIO DISCIPLES was conceived,
"I think it was a combination of all of us. We talked long and hard and
discussed 'Should we or shouldn't we? Is it right? How do we really feel about
all this?' And it just became apparent that we just couldn't let it go. We've
been in Ronnie's band for such a long time and he taught us so much, he
was an inspiration and we learned so much from him about being on the road,
being in the studio… We just came to the conclusion that we just couldn't let
it go and we needed to keep the songs going for the fans; that's the most
important thing we're doing here. We're not trying to kid anybody here; we're
just doing it from the heart and continuing his legacy. It's really as simple
as that."
Regarding DIO DISCIPLES' touring plans, Tim said, "We picked
Europe first and the main reason is the summer
festivals. So we go there first and we're working on U.S. dates [for September]. We're
trying to take it one step at a time; we're trying to build this thing and [do
it right].
"I tour a lot during the year solo — seven months out of the year — and
once I was asked to do this, I moved anything I had scheduled; I had Australia
scheduled in the summer — I moved those instantly and I put anything [that
would prevent me from doing this] on hold. 'Cause once I was asked to celebrate Ronnie James Dio's legacy and his music, there was nothing that I had
that I wasn't gonna move to somewhere else in the future — or lose; which I had
lost a few thing as well — because [doing DIO DISCIPLES became] my main
[focus]."
On the topic of DIO DISCIPLES setlist, Simon said, "The
problem that a lot of bands have is that they've got a strong batch of hits, so
we still have to do songs that are like that — we have to do 'Heaven And
Hell', 'Rainbow In The Dark', 'Holy Diver', 'We Rock'…
So we're doing those, but we're trying to throw in as many curveballs as we can
at the moment. As we progress, I think we'll be throwing in more songs from Ronnie's
catalog, which should be a couple of surprises — songs that maybe were never
played live, or that were played live but a long, long time ago. Because, like
I said before, we wanna make it something special for the fans and they all
have everything different songs that they love. We can't do them all, but we're
gonna try and fit as many of them in as we can."
Added Tim, "I don't care what band you're in, it's hard to make a
setlist. And when you have someone like Ronnie [whose recorded work]
goes back a long ways, you're not gonna please everyone, but every day we
rehearse, we've added another song in there, trying a different song."
MVD Entertainment Group has set a September 27
release date for the IGGY & THE STOOGES "Raw Power Live: In The
Hands Of The Fans" DVD and Blu-ray. The set is described as "the
visual document of the reformed STOOGES' (Iggy Pop, Scott
Asheton, James Williamson, Steve Mackay, Mike Watt) 'Raw
Power' performance at the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival on Friday,
September 3, 2010."
Of the performance, Ben Ratliff of the New York Times wrote,
"Iggy Pop, now 63, knew that his body language translated into
still photographs resembling Mannerist paintings... THE STOOGES attacked
the album's eight songs, in a different order, just about perfectly."
Iggy and the band sound flawless as they rip through the archetype
riffage of "Search and Destroy", "Raw Power", "Gimmie Danger" and more.
"Getting this top-notch performance of the entire 'Raw Power' album
by THE STOOGES realized a lifelong dream," said Iggy Pop.
"This shit really sizzles and we are so obviously a crack band in a class
of our own."
SCRANTON- Police allege that a Moscow man caused significant damage to his girlfriend's
vehicle after security removed him from the Motley Crue concert at the Toyota
Pavilion at Montage Mountain Sunday evening.
Christian
Pilosi, 39, of Moscow,
faces one count each of disorderly conduct, harassment, public drunkenness and
criminal mischief for the alleged July 31 incident.
According
to an affidavit:
LackawannaCounty
deputy sheriffs working traffic patrol on Montage Mountain
Sunday were called to escort concert-goer Maura Cummings to her car. Cummings
explained to deputies that she was just in a physical fight with her boyfriend,
Pilosi, who was removed from the show by security after he pushed her to the
ground.
When
deputies arrived at Cummings' car, the discovered that both side view mirrors
were shattered; the windshield, rear window and two passenger side windows were
scratched; and the rear driver side door was dented.
Cummings
immediately suspected Pilosi was responsible for the damage.
Deputies
escorted Cummings off the mountain and noticed a man fitting Pilosi's
description walking down Montage Mountain Road upon their return. As they spoke to
him, Pilosi allegedly had red, glossy eyes and smelled of alcohol. His knuckles
were also bloody.
Pilosi
was arraigned Aug. 1 and held for 10 percent of $5,000 bail. A preliminary
hearing is set for Aug. 8.
When
rock icon Rob Zombie returns to Vancouver to
play a co-headlining concert at Rogers
Arena with metal legends Slayer on Wednesday, it'll be under very different
circumstances than his last visit to the city.
The
Grammy-nominated vocalist has forged a successful second career for himself as
a director of artful yet gory horror movies like 'House of 1000 Corpses' and
'The Devil's Rejects'. And it was in this capacity that he received an
unexpected phone call last year.
"I
was in Australia
when I got a call from an ad agency that was working with Woolite," he
told ctvbc.ca. "They said they were interested in me directing their commercial.
It wasn't something I ever went after or thought about doing. But they liked my
movies and thought my style would fit with what they wanted to do with the
commercial.
Related: Watch
commercial
"It's
pretty fun. They wanted to make something that looked like a horror movie
trailer. You're watching someone who looks like a serial killer dragging a dead
body. It turns out it's a bag of clothes. He starts torturing the clothes with
various devices. You know, don't let detergent torture your clothes. I was in Vancouver for a week,
which was good."
It
seems unlikely that Rob Zombie will be going into the advertising business on a
permanent basis. He's still fully committed to making music, even though he's
acutely aware that the industry around it has changed beyond recognition since
his original band, White Zombie, broke onto the global stage in the early
1990s. Now in his mid-40s, for a man that has based his career as a musician and
filmmaker on the darker side of surrealism, there's something refreshingly
pragmatic about his understanding of where the music business is going.
"A
lot's changed in the last five years," he sighs. "Back then we were
thinking, I wonder where all the record stores are going to be? Then we
realised, nowhere. People were still buying CDs then. They're not doing that
any more.
"Young
bands come up to me all the time and ask me for advice. I don't even know how
they're going to do it. So many of the tools that were so prominent, like MTV,
aren't there any more. At the same time, when we were breaking there was no
Internet. There was no Facebook. You were at the mercy of your record company
to give a sh*t. Now, if you're industrious, you can be in charge of your own
career. I don't know if they'll be selling out arenas, but they can keep
themselves from going bankrupt. My goal was to be able to survive off making
music. Anything after that was gravy."
The
flipside to the recording industry's woes is the booming concert business. The
Rob Zombie live experience is as spectacular as one would expect from an artist
with such a unique visual signature. As for the music, he'll be performing a
mix of old favourites and a selection from the 2010 release, 'Hellbilly Deluxe
2'.
"I'm
perfectly happy to play songs that people want to hear," he continues.
"But you don't want your set to consist of the same ten songs for the next
40 years. A lot of bands do that."
Zombie
isn't going on the greatest hits circuit just yet. Visually and sonically, he's
still pushing boundaries. Which makes the job of playing with one of the most
revered bands in heavy metal's history that much easier. It's not a
competition. It's an honour.
"We
do what we do. Slayer do what they do. Slayer is like a machine. It doesn't
ever change, so it doesn't ever seem fresh and new. Yet it doesn't seem old and
tired either. It's frozen in time. And I mean that in a good way."
Rob
Zombie and Slayer co-headline Rogers Arena on August 3rd. Tickets are
available through Ticketmaster.
Legendary guitarist Slash (VELVET REVOLVER,
ex-GUNS N' ROSES) writes on his
Twitter page that he has just started the "second round of
pre-production" on his new solo album. "It's going to be a rockin'
fn' record," the axeman says.
In a May 2011 interview with Planet Rock, Slash revealed that his
new solo album will be released next spring.
Although ALTER BRIDGE vocalist Myles Kennedy sang just two tracks
on Slash's self-titled solo debut, Slash recently confirmed that Myles will sing everything on the guitarist's next solo effort.
Speaking to Nicky Horne, he revealed, "Myles and I have been
writing all throughout the tour so we've got a lot of material, and at this
point we're probably gonna start a little bit of pre-production in June and
then do the tour in July. In September we're going to [do more] pre-production
and the album is slated to come out in March or April."
In an interview with The Pulse Of Radio, Kennedy said about the
fact that Slash would like him to handle the lead vocals on the
guitarist's next CD, "It's very flattering. I think there's kind of a cool
thing we got going. We really enjoy working with each other."
Slash's debut disc came out last year and featured a different singer on
each track, including Chris Cornell, Ozzy Osbourne, M. Shadows and others.
Slash's "homecoming" gig on July 24 at the Victoria Hall in
the British town of Stoke-On-Trent, where he was raised until he was five, was
filmed for a DVD release, tentatively due in October.
New DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Mangini has
issued the following update from the band's current European tour:
"I'm stunned at the crowds on this tour. I really am having so much fun
that I can't wait to get back on stage. One more show: Budapest. As the rest of shows were [great],
too, the Athens crowd just rocked the Earth all
the way to Africa tonight. EVERY crowd has
simply gotten the band's message loud and clear and I'm so happy to be a part
of all this joy."
"A Dramatic Turn Of Events", the much-anticipated new album
from DREAM THEATER, which marks Mangini's recorded debut, will be
released on September 13 via Roadrunner Records.
In a recent interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, DREAM THEATER guitarist John Petrucci was asked how the recent lineup change affected
the songwriting responsibilities for the new CD. "We didn't write the
music with Mike Mangini," he said. "We decided to go in and
just write it amongst ourselves without a drummer [to] get more in touch with
the intimates of the compositional process that every guitarist, keyboard
player and bassist does when they're sitting around in a bedroom or hotel room
or studio. Just writing and pulling out the best music that you can, exploring
different areas. We decided to do it that way, which was great — a really great
environment for being creative."
When asked if the band ended up writing things that were really hard for Mangini to play, Petrucci said, "It's funny that you say that, because I
programmed all the drums with a program, which was a lot of fun. I came up with
some wicked stuff. When we finished, I sent it, asking, 'Is this something that
you can actually play? I don't know, I'm not a drummer, is this a physically
possible thing?' But then he came in a couple of months later, and here he was,
a human being doing this stuff. I was blown away. It's fun doing that kind of
thing because you can just come up with stuff that's beyond your wildest
imagination, drum-wise, and then make it happen in real life."
Welcome to Local Music
'Mericans, where we meet the people in the local music scene that you don't see
on stages.
It's such
a cool thing when our LMA subjects have the humble beginning of simply being a
fan. Even more exhilarating is the fan who elevates to a position of
weight on a national level.
As you hear Sterling Winfield's story, you just can't help but congratulate him
at multiple stops along the way. He's worked damn hard, clawed his way up from
an assistant engineer to a bona fide rock record producer, and done so largely
just by being himself.
Sterling Winfield is a Pantera fan, and has been since junior high. Because of
that, he knew exactly who was on the phone when famed producer Terry Date
called up Dallas Soundlab, where Winfield was empolyed as an assistant
recording engineer on the nightshift, to get a list of the studio gear they
stocked. He sparked a friendship with the producer and the band (particulary
"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott), and ended up a part of their inner circle
from the time they were assembling Far Beyond Driven, their third
effort, all the way up to the end of the band as we know it. He became part of
the lively, dysfunctional Pantera family.
In the studio, he co-engineered Pantera's recordings. On the road, he saw the
world with them, usually as a bass guitar tech.
Winfield's association continued and elevated in the post-Pantera period, with Damageplan's recordings and live shows,
right up to the tragic
demise of that outfit, as well as the Rebel Meets Rebel recordings, featuring outlaw country singer David Allan Coe and all three of
Pantera's instrumentalists.
Most significant, though, is Winfields role in (Pantera drummer) Vinnie Paul's
latest musical endeavour, Hellyeah. The band made Winfield a producer for both
of the band's albums.
Winfield now runs his own studio out of his home, mixing bands mostly from the
local metal scene, and serving as an occasional contributing journalist to Pro
Audio Review magazine.
What else did Winfield's sacrifices earn him behind the scenes with one of Dallas' biggest local
music success stories? The basic thoughts alone of touring and recording with
Pantera should conjure some pretty colorful thoughts right out of the gate.
Read on for the real stuff after the jump.
We know about you meeting
Pantera at Dallas Sound Lab , but tell us about some other sounds you remember
working on there. You must have seen a lot of different kinds of music, local
or otherwise, come through.
Well,
not really. D.S.L. was more on the national and international level. The locals
couldn't really afford to come there unless they saved up for a few years. It
wasn't really designed to cater to the local garage band. There was a huge
amount of different things that I was fortunate to work on that came through
there. I got to work with people and projects like Herbie Mann, King
Diamond/Mercyful Fate, and a lot of cool choral and orchestral things for
Disney and National Geographic. I got to work on jingle/commercial music with
B.B. King once. A musical education for sure.
You started there around 1991. What about before that? What set you off in
the direction of rock music?
The two most significant things were the fact that my father is a
singer-songwriter, and my older brother, by six years, turned me on to rock 'n'
roll at an early age. There was always music of some form around me at almost
all times. I discovered early on that, even though I really wasn't disciplined
musician material, that I had a really good ear and feel for music and songs in
general.
Was there something in particular that sparked a friendship between you and
the guys in Pantera?
They came into Dallas Sound Lab, which is now gone by the way, because of a
flood due to a broken water main about a year ago. It was in October of
1993. They showed up to finish what would become Far Beyond Driven. I
got paired up with one of my best friends and engineers there, Tim Kimsey. He
was the senior engineer and I was to be the assistant. The guys in the band and
Terry Date were awesome. I learned a lot from the project and all of those
guys. I had been a huge fan since I was in junior high, when those guys were
still releasing their independent albums. Dime and I really gravitated toward
each other, but he was that way. He was always very personable to everybody.
Then when we hit the common ground of being huge King's X fans, that was it.
Friends for life!
Personally, I feel that by being a part of the brilliantly-entertaining
Pantera films, shot for the DVD release, that you've become a bit of a
celebrity yourself -- at least among the DFW metal scene and core fans of the band.
Did you get recognized a lot from your antics on camera?
I mostly get recognized when I go to clubs or rock shows at bigger venues, but
not as much as you would think. It's always interesting though, that's for
sure. Thanks Dime!
Were you a sound engineer for the Damageplan tour? Thoughts or memories from
it you care to share?
No. That was Aaron "Wires" Barnes. He was Pantera's guy since The
Basement days. He was a hell of a front of house engineer. I think he is
retired now. Too many memories to list here, but good times indeed.
How about some of the most laughter-inducing memories of Dime? We've all
heard lots, but I don't think there can ever be too many shared.
Again, too many to list. Just watch the home videos. It's all there.
After Damageplan, and leading up to the period when Hellyeah started to
culminate, things were quiet in that camp. What did you do as an engineer
during this time?
We were all in a pretty long mourning period then. I didn't work a whole lot
through that period, but when I did, I made sure that it was someone or
something that I really enjoyed, or it would have been pure hell, for
sure.
Were you the first-choice, right out of the gate, to move up the ladder to
producer when it came to the Hellyeah records? Or were you one in a pool of
candidates?
It was pretty much Vinnie Paul calling me on the phone about 10 months after
Dime was killed and saying, "Well, two of the Mudvayne guys are coming
down with Tom from Nothingface [who we had toured with before], so let's go
down to "Chasin' Jason" [the Pantera studio] and see if something
musical happens." That was pretty much it. The rest is history.
Any new DFW-based bands (of any genre) you find exciting that you'd like to
share?
Well, I will take this opportunity to push a couple of bands that I am having
the pleasure to work with at the moment. I really like the World Beneath World album Nein which I finished back in Feburary, and I am still currently working on
finishing Lowside's debut album. I'm also
working on the new Blood Of The
Sun disc, and I am absolutely in love with Hellgoat.
You've had a pretty amazing adventure so far. What now?
I think so too, but I am the same as any other person on the planet. Of course
I want to see things grow and get bigger and progress, but at this point in
time I am super happy just working out of my little home-studio set up, being
around my family, and just trying to live in the moment.
Atlanta
progressive metallers MASTODON will release their new album, "The
Hunter", on September 27. The follow-up to 2009's "Crack The

on Reprise Records in the U.S. and Canada and the band's first to be
issued through Roadrunner Records outside of North America.
"The Hunter" track listing:
01. Black Tongue
02. Curl Of The Burl
03. Blasteroid
04. Stargasm
05. Octopus Has No Friends
06. All The Heavy Lifting
07. The Hunter
08. DryBone Valley
09. Thickening
10. Creature Lives
11. Spectrelight
12. Bedazzled Fingernails
13. The Sparrow
14. The Ruiner (limited-edition bonus track)
15. Deathbound (limited-edition bonus track)
"Curl Of The Burl" will make its online debut on August 6.
MASTODON last month launched a pre-order at MastodonRocks.com for "The Hunter" limited-edition package, which includes a
CD/DVD housed in a digipack with an exclusive alternative artwork cover, a
20" x 30" lenticular poster featuring the album cover of the standard
CD, an Augmented Reality Experience by Total Immersion that will contain
exclusive content only available to this package, plus an instant download of
the band's first new album track, "Black Tongue", also
available for sale through all participating digital music retailers.
The visual companion to the song "Black Tongue", featuring contemporary
American folk artist A.J. Fosik, creator of "The Hunter" cover art piece, can be seen below.
When asked about the sound of MASTODON's forthcoming album, drummer Brann
Dailor told the German edition of Metal Hammer magazine, "When
you listen to the songs, they don't sound as 'fun' as we perceive them to be, I
guess; it's still pretty extremely heavy material." He added, "We had
a few songs that were kind of, not left over from 'Crack The Skye', but
just stuff that we wanted to be on that album, but that album kind of took on a
whole different thing of its own and there were a few stragglers that were
super-heavy and crazy that didn't make it, and we finally got to put them on
this record. And then we wrote a whole bunch of brand new stuff. There's, like,
14 songs that we recorded. And it's sort all over the place — a lot of
different sounds. Some straight-up classic-rock-sounding songs, straight-up
death metal-sounding songs and some completely bizarre, weirdo rock songs that
we're not really sure what they are, but we love them."
"The Hunter" was recorded at Doppler Studios in Atlanta with producer Mike
Elizondo. Drum tracks were previously completed in Los Angeles at the legendary Sound City
Studios where NIRVANA's masterwork "Nevermind" was
recorded.
ADRENALINE MOB — the new band featuring drummer Mike
Portnoy (DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD), SYMPHONY X frontman Russell Allen, guitar virtuoso Mike Orlando (SONIC
STOMP), bassist Paul DiLeo and STUCK MOJO/FOZZY axeman Rich Ward — will release its debut EP on August 9. The self-titled
effort will available via iTunes as well as sold in physical form at the
group's upcoming shows and online store. Self-produced by the band, "Adrenaline
Mob" features four original tracks as well as a blistering cover of
the Ronnie James Dio-era BLACK SABBATH classic "The Mob
Rules". From the opening riff of "Psychosane" through
the over-six-minute epic-sounding "Hit The Wall", it is clear
that ADRENALINE MOB are in class all their own as musicians.
"Releasing the EP gives fans around the world a chance to get a taste of
the MOB NOW without having to wait until the full-length album comes out
at the beginning of next year," states Portnoy.
"Adrenaline Mob" track listing:
01. Psychosane
02. Believe Me
03. Hit The Wall
04. Down To The Floor
05. The Mob Rules
Hot on the heels of the release of "Adrenaline Mob", the band
will head out on its first-ever headline tour, which kicks off in Allentown, Pennsylvania
on August 14 and runs through mid-September. The trek will make stops in
various markets, including Chicago, Denver and San Francisco. ADRENALINE MOB has also been tapped
to open for GODSMACK on select dates of the Massachusetts act's upcoming tour.
ADRENALINE MOB formed in early 2011 when Orlando approached Allen with
some material the guitarist had written. Allen and Orlando refined those ideas, at which time Allen reached out to longtime friend Portnoy to see if he had any interest in playing with them. Portnoy jumped on
board and soon thereafter DiLeo and Ward were recruited to join
the family. From the very first note, the chemistry was apparent and the beast
that is known as ADRENALINE MOB was born.
A full-length release is planned for 2012.
Professionally filmed video footage of ADRENALINE MOB performing a cover
version of the BLACK SABBATH classic "The Mob Rules" on
June 24 at the Hiro Ballroom in New York City can be seen below.
A review of ADRENALINE MOB's concert at the Hiro Ballroom — which marked
the group's first-ever live performance — can be found at NY Hard Rock Music Examiner.
In a March 2011 interview, Russell described ADRENALINE MOB as
"a straight-up rock band with just rock songs — kind of like an edgy,
modern kind of sound. It's not progressive or trying to be too metal or
anything — it's just good, old crunchy rock stuff." He added, "I
think it will be really well received by people who like to hear that kind of
stuff. This is a new thing for Portnoy and myself, too. I've always done
kind of done stuff with AYREON, but that's more of a vintage-y vibe, but
nothing like this, which is kind of modern-sounding, almost like ROB ZOMBIE meets BLACK LABEL SOCIETY meets DISTURBED, [but] with [Ronnie
James] Dio singing. It's all this kind of craziness. So it's
definitely different and it's cool."
Speaking to MetalSymphony.com, Orlando stated about ADRENALINE MOB, "This band is not in the vein of SYMPHONY
X or DREAM THEATER. It's more along the lines of, say, ROB ZOMBIE, GODSMACK, DISTURBED, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, SHINEDOWN…
with Russell's absolute pipes from hell and Mike just outright
killing it on the kit. The guitar is really rocking and has some pretty insane
moments, but it's a song-oriented band and that's the most important aspect
before anything." He continued, "Russell and I have an amazing
writing chemistry together and he is one of my closest and dearest friends.
It's an absolute pleasure to work with such a great talent as Russell on
every level.' He added, "Mike is just unbelievable. His playing is
beyond words at times. He's the utmost professional musician but also one of
the nicest and coolest guys I have ever met and played with. It's an honor to
call him my bandmate, to say the least, and I look forward to ripping it up
every night out there with Mike and Russ and the guys!"
"Kicking & Screaming", the first video
and title track from former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach's
forthcoming album, can be seen at RevolverMag.com. According to a press release, the clip —
which is one of two videos that the singer filmed on June 28 in Hollywood,
California with director Devin DeHaven of Fortress Entertainment (PAPA ROACH, WHITESNAKE, METHOD MAN, TALIB KWELI) —
shows Bach "in fine form highlighting his inimitable vocal prowess,
as well as the bone-crunching riffs and catchy hooks of the single."
Commented Sebastian: "I could not be happier with the video for 'Kicking
& Screaming'. Director Devin DeHaven did a great job and this
video has a lot of energy and power, just like the song. Plus, this video is
FUN! Just what rock 'n' roll is about."
"Kicking & Screaming" will be released on September 27 via Frontiers Records. The CD was produced by Bob Marlette (BLACK
SABBATH, SHINEDOWN, ATREYU, FILTER) and features young
virtuosic guitarist Nick Sterling and drum pro Bobby Jarzombek (HALFORD, RIOT, ICED EARTH). The follow-up to 2007's "Angel
Down" was mastered at Precision Mastering in Los Angeles with Tom Baker. A digital
single containing the album's title track will precede the full-length effort
on August 23.
"Kicking & Screaming" track listing:
01. Kicking & Screaming
02. My Own Worst Enemy
03. TunnelVision (featuring John 5)
04. Dance On Your Grave
05. Caught In A Dream
06. As Long As I Got The Music
07. I'm Alive
08. Dirty Power
09. Live The Life
10. Dream Forever
11. One Good Reason
12. Lost In The Light
13. Wishin'
Bonus tracks:
14. Jumpin' Off The Wagon (on physical CD/DVD editions only)
15. Ain't There Yet (iTunes exclusive)
Sebastian previously stated that the "Kicking &
Screaming" cover would feature "the hottest model in the
land" — presumably referring to his new girlfriend, 25-year-old model Minnie
Gupta — "and reflect the lyrics as well as the brutality of the music.
It's gonna be rock 'n' roll to the 9th degree — very heavy, cool, trippy and
nightmare-ish."
Bach stated about his new solo material, "This CD will follow along
the lines of 'Skid Row', 'Slave To The Grind', 'Subhuman Race' and 'Angel Down'. If you like rockin' guitar riffs, high-energy songs
and performances, deadly drums of doom, and ear-shattering screams, we got your
rock right here!" He also described the songs as "heavy, interesting,
classic sounding, modern sounding, completely rock 'n' roll — just how we like
it!"
TRIVIUM guitarist/vocalist Matt Heafy and GODSMACK drummer Shannon Larkin, whose respective bands are currently on the road
with DISTURBED as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tour, spoke to Artisan News about the speculation regarding DISTURBED's
future, which DISTURBED singer David Draiman started last month
when he hinted that the group's current tour could be its last for a while — if
not for good.
When asked if he has heard grumblings about a DISTURBED split on the Mayhem tour, Heafy said, "As tours go, it's like high school, so anytime
you hear anything, it spreads like wildfire and it always changes up a little
bit. But I've said to the guys in the band myself, even last night, and I'll
say it here… The world needs that band. We're big fans of them, we look up to
them. I don't know what's going on, I don't know what the deal. I'm sure it's a
lot of rumor-mill stuff and there's some stuff… No one really knows what's
going on but them. They're one of the best bands in what they do.
There's so many other bands that are gonna try to take that, and they're the
kings at it — they can actually play and sing what they make. There's so many
bands that can't do that, there's so many bands that can't perform what they
say they can on their records. And DISTURBED are an amazing bunch of
guys. They treated us better on [the recent] Australian [leg of the 'Music
As A Weapon'] tour than any band's ever treated us. So [I] at least [hope]
for them to stay around so they can keep bringing us out."
Draiman confirmed to The Pulse Of Radio that DISTURBED plans to take an indefinite hiatus, and gave some hints about the
"personal reasons" behind the decision. "Many of those reasons
are have to do with the state of the music industry in general and, you know,
the demise of hard rock and heavy metal right now, and I think it's just a good
time for DISTURBED, after 10 to 12 years straight of touring, to go away
for a little while and kind of wait for the phoenix to rise from the ashes
here," he said. "It's frightening times right now, and it's just a
good time for us to go away."
But Draiman also admitted that DISTURBED may in fact never come
back. "It could be a concern," he said. "You don't know. We
don't know. I can't definitively tell you one way or the other at this point.
We really haven't gotten that far in our discussions. We all agree that we are
going to step away for an indefinite period of time."
Draiman said that the band, which has toured for 12 years and issued
five albums, is playing "stronger...and with more passion" on the
current trek, adding, "We're all viewing this as our last hurrah for
awhile, and we're making them count."
Drummer Dave McClain of San Francisco Bay Area
metallers MACHINE HEAD was interviewed for the summer issue of U.K.'s Rhythm magazine.
When asked if he is feeling the pressure to follow up MACHINE HEAD's
2007 masterpiece "The Blackening" with an equally epic album, McClain said, "There's always pressure, especially after everything that came
along with 'The Blackening' for us. After the tour, which I think was
three years, we were just so ready. As much as we loved everything that
happened with 'The Blackening', we were ready to put that whole thing
behind us and get started. I was writing a little bit, Robb [Flynn,
guitar/vocals] had written some stuff, Phil [Demmel, guitar] was
writing, but we were all not showing each other anything! Once we got back home
I set my drums back up that week and started playing again and waited around
for everyone to come around. Robb was the first one to call, and we were
more just excited than feeling any pressure about anything that point. It was
good: we were ready to get back in, although we didn't have to get back in. We
were ready to start writing and it was really cool."
Regarding the new MACHINE HEAD song "Darkness Within",
which is said to represent a new direction for MACHINE HEAD, McClain said, "Yeah. There's elements to it that are really rock, but it's really
dark too. Super dark. It totally sounds like MACHINE HEAD, though. We
had a four-piece orchestra come in and do stuff on it. There [was] also a song
that I wrote the music for [that didn't make the new album], and when I gave it
to Robb. I said to him, 'I've always wanted to hear a song that's just
you and a piano, kind of like 'Changes' by BLACK SABBATH.' I
wrote the whole thing on the guitar with a melody-line lead, and he liked it
and put piano on it. . . [Had the song made the record] it [would have been] a
big stretch because it's something that we've never done before, bringing in
piano and everything."

According to a new tweet from MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee,
he was just offered a spot on the next season of "Dancing With The
Stars", a reality show which airs on ABC in the United States and CTV in Canada. Lee writes, "I've never hit the PASS button so quick."
"Dancing With The Stars" is the American version of the
British BBC television series "Strictly Come Dancing".
Each contestant pair consists of a celebrity and a professional dancer. Each
couple performs predetermined dances and competes against the others for
judges' points and audience votes. Whichever couple receives the lowest
combined total of judges points and audience votes is eliminated until the
champion dance pair remains.
It was announced in March that Tommy Lee was developing an investigative
travel show for the Syfy network. Dubbed "Culture Shock with
Tommy Lee", the unscripted series will star Lee as he attempts
to uncover various rituals, symbols, and other mysteries of secret societies. Lee will immerse himself in the history of each society, meet with former members
and participate in their ceremonies.
"This is the first show that I've been a part of that will blow our minds
and reveal things that will explain almost all our questions," Lee said. "I'm very excited to be partnering with Syfy on this show.
It's going to be an amazing experience for all involved."
The series, which will feature one-hour episodes, is produced by ITV Studios
America.
Lee previously starred in NBC's six-episode run of "Tommy
Lee Goes to College" in 2004, in which he attended the University of Nebraska and tried out for the school's
marching band.
MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil and pro-skate partner Jennifer
Wester became the second pair to be eliminated from ABC's "Skating
With The Stars" reality show last December after receiving the lowest
combined judges' scores and audience vote.
"Skating With The Stars" was previously described as "Dancing
With The Stars" on ice and came from the same producers.
FOZZY singer and WWE wrestling superstar Chris Jericho was
among the celebrities who appeared on the most recent season of "Dancing
With The Stars".
Part fantasy, part weaver of magic, part willow the wisp:
singer and song writer Candice Night releases her debut solo single, "Call
It Love". The single is the first taste of Night's first solo
adult contemporary album, "Reflections", set for release on
September 27. "Call It Love" is now available for purchase on iTunes.
Commenting on "Call It Love", Night states, "So
many people are so afraid of the word 'love.' It's all-consuming, life-changing
and can leave you so open and vulnerable that saying 'I love you' for the first
time can be a scary moment. We hide behind so many other words to describe the
emotion: fate, a dream, luck that we met the right one... but once you give in
and surrender to the truth of being in love, there is a comfort and a warmth of
completion that doesn't come until you give yourself fully to that incredible
feeling of being in love. And there is nothing else like it."
Night was born and raised on Long Island, New York, and
is often dubbed "one of the most beautiful women in the world" by the
international media. She is frequently identified as a mix of Karen
Carpenter's voice and a young Stevie Nicks, for her flowing skirts,
but her ethereal voice and lyrics are all her own. As a frontwoman for the band BLACKMORE'S NIGHT, she also plays seven medieval instruments on stage,
lending to the excitement and mysticism of the music of her group.
Night sang background for DEEP PURPLE in 1993; and on RITCHIE
BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW CD "Stranger In Us All", she co-wrote
four songs. She received a gold record in Japan for her co-writing efforts
and one of her songs, "Black Masquerade", was chosen as
"Best Song Of The Year" in 1995. Her song "Ariel" won accolades in Europe and charted at #2, as well as being the official German
soccer song, and "Black Masquerade" was #1 in Japan.
Night is the lead singer and writes all the lyrics for the songs for her
current group BLACKMORE'S NIGHT. Their first album, "Shadow Of
The Moon", earned Night a second gold record in 1997. Since then, she
has been awarded gold records and other many international awards for her
writing and performances in BLACKMORE'S NIGHT. In addition, Night has appeared on a PBS special. The most recent BLACKMORE'S NIGHT album, "Autumn Sky", entered the Billboard New Age chart at
No. 1. Many celebrities have gathered to see Night perform live in concert,
including Sarah Brightman, Cuba Gooding Jr. and many others.
Night is now releasing her first solo project, "Reflections",
which is an adult contemporary album that showcases a different side to her
extraordinary talent and voice. "Reflections" is emanated from Night's personal experiences as a woman, devoted mother and musician.
Allow yourself a chance to get lost in the passions, the mysteries, and the
ever-changing kaleidoscope of Candice Night — reflected in her vocals,
her lyrics and her music.
Guitarist Dino Cazares of Los Angeles cyber metallers FEAR FACTORY has begun demoing material for the band's next album,
tentatively due in early 2012 via an as-yet-undetermined record label.
Assisting Dino during the sessions earlier today (Wednesday, August 3)
at L.A.'s Downtown
Rehearsal studios was DEVOLVED drummer John Sankey.
Sankey previously collaborated with Cazares on a short-lived
project in 2003 which also featured ex-LIQUID GANG singer Jose
Maldonado.
In a January 2011 interview with SkullsNBones.com, FEAR FACTORY vocalist Burton C. Bell stated about the band's plans to go into the
studio to record the follow-up to last year's "Mechanize",
"We wanna take our time doing it. Personally... 'Mechanize', don't
get me wrong, is a good record — I'm very proud of it — but it's gotta be better
than that. I've got plans where I'd like to do a full-on concept again — story,
artwork. Just make it real cerebral. But there'll definitely be another FEAR
FACTORY record, maybe in 2012."
"Mechanize" was released in the U.S. on February 9, 2010 via Candlelight
Records. The CD, which was co-produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, PARADISE LOST), was mixed by Greg Reely (PARADISE LOST, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, SKINNY PUPPY).
FEAR FACTORY's current lineup — featuring original FF members Dino
Cazares (guitar) and Burton C. Bell (vocals) alongside bassist Byron
Stroud (who was credited on the last two FEAR FACTORY albums in
addition to touring and recording with STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and ZIMMERS
HOLE) and legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (DETHKLOK, STRAPPING
YOUNG LAD, DARK ANGEL, DEATH, TESTAMENT) — made its
live debut on December 4, 2009 at Espaço Lux in São Bernardo do Campo, São
Paulo, Brazil.
STAR & DAGGER, the band featuring former WHITE
ZOMBIE bassist Sean Yseult, has just finished mixing its new album, "Tomorrowland
Blues", with Ethan Allen and Dave Catching at the helm.
The CD will feature the original 2010 recordings from Hicksville Trailer
Palace Studios and five new tracks that were laid down earlier this year at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, California.
STAR & DAGGER features Yseult, vocalist Von Hesseling,
guitarist Donna She Wolf (CYCLE SLUTS FROM HELL), and drummer Dustin
Crops.
In a December 2010 interview with Suvudu, Yseult described STAR
& DAGGER as a band that is "getting back to the metal. It's blues
rock, but heavy and tuned down. The members are split between New York and New Orleans,
so it takes longer to write and record but I love what we're coming up with. We
like to think of it as Anita Pallenberg fronting [BLACK] SABBATH!"
Yseult last year released a book, "I'm In The Band - Backstage
Notes From The Chick In White Zombie". It was described in a press
release as "a detailed account of [Sean's] time in WHITE ZOMBIE,
one of the biggest breakout metal sensations from the '90s."
LIFE OF AGONY singer Keith Caputo, who
recently revealed that he is "transitioning" into life as a woman and
has begun to refer to himself as "her" on his official web site, was
asked by U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine whether society is tolerant of people who have chosen
to undergone sex changes. "No, I don't," Caputo said.
"The whole system we live in is discriminative and fucked up. Everything's
fucked up. There are no toilets for transgendered people, for example, which is
why there are so many beatings and brutalities. If the authorities and the
people who make laws would be sensitive towards the idea that humans come in
all shapes, in different forms and desires, then there would be a lot more love
in the world."
The singer — who has adopted the name "Keith Mina Caputo" —
told the magazine that he was just eight years old when he realized that he
didn't identify as a member of the gender he was assigned at birth, but because
of the environment he grew up in, he could not go through with the transition
until now.
"Because of my upbringing and LIFE OF AGONY coming into my life, it
was also a very male-dominated source of energy," he said. "I always
felt uncomfortable because I was surrounded by these macho, alpha-male types.
Caputo recently wrote on his Twitter
account, "Male-to-female transsexuals like me are the women who give
up male privilege for femininity! Threaten the patriarchy!" He also
responded to a question from a fan about the demise of LIFE OF AGONY by
writing, "LIFE OF AGONY has already gone into isolation and it's
got nothing to do with me transitioning [to a woman]."
In a June 5, 2011 interview with "DeadDave's Internet Radio Show", Caputo stated, "I live a completely, totally different lifestyle.
I'm a completely different human being. I have a very different path in life.
I'm not living life as a man anymore and stuff. So, yeah, my life is completely
different, but music will always be… music is definitely my driving
force."
Caputo previously used cross-dressing images of himself in the artwork
for his 2008 album "A Fondness For Hometown Scars" and
dedicated the CD to androgynous people.
In a July 11 tweet, Caputo said, "my cousins even get on me for
being transgender, calling me the dumbest names, but it's all in good fun;
they'll really kill for me." The vocalist also re-tweeted a story from Metal
Insider claiming the singer was due to get a sex change. He replied with
the message, "Thanks for being sweet and respectful. Deeply appreciate it.
[For you information], I'm keeping my penis!"
Finnish melodic metallers SONATA ARCTICA will release
a concert DVD, "Live In Finland",
on October 28. The set will include the band's entire April 15, 2011
performance at Club Teatria in Oulu, Finland as well as a bonus disc containing four
songs that were filmed at the band's own festival on August 8, 2009 in Kemi, Finland.
Also featured on the DVD will be SONTA ARCTICA's promotional videos for
the songs "Don't Say A Word", "Paid In Full" and "Flag In The Ground" as well as a photo gallery and
behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the DVD. There will also be a
bonus CD containing eight songs that were recorded at the Kemi festival
concert.
Commented SONATA ARCTICA keyboardist Henrik "Lance"
Klingenberg: "It's been a very hot summer here in Finland, and
while most people headed to the beach, we've been working our asses off editing
and compiling our new DVD.
"This time around we wanted to give you a show from our home country Finland.
"The main show was filmed at the Teatria club in Oulu, Finland,
last April. It showcases SONATA ARCTICA towards the end of 'The Days
Of Grays' world tour, which started back in 2009.
"We played a total of over 180 shows in almost 40 countries during the
tour.
"This will be a two-DVD release with lots of bonuses. We'll have tour
documentaries, making-ofs as well as music videos and bonus songs from our very
own Sonata Arctica Open Air festival, held in our hometown Kemi in
August 2009.
"Whether you missed us or checked us out during this world tour, this DVD
will be the complete guide to what we've been up to these past two years.
"I'm sure you all will enjoy watching this DVD as much as we've enjoyed
making it.
"'The Days Of Grays' world tour has been absolutely fantastic and
I'm very happy that we've managed to capture all the ups and downs on film.
You'll know what I'm talking about when we get this monster package out!"
"The Days Of Grays", the latest album from SONATA ARCTICA,
sold around 2,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release,
according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD landed at position No. 19 on the
Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums
by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the
Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
"The Days Of Grays" was released on September 22, 2009 in North America through Nuclear Blast Records.
Bangalore Mirror conducted an interview with vocalist Angela
Gossow of Swedish/German extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY. The
question-and-answer session follows in its entirety below.
BangaloreMirror: Your childhood and teens seems to be a very bumpy ride. Not to
forget your health issues. Yet you did rise. How did you manage to do that? And
also can you tell us a little about "wild rollercoaster ride" in
life?
Angela: I think most people experience a rough time as teenagers. It is
not easy waking up to this world. Society, parents, teachers and even your
peers — everybody is pulling at you. You have to deliver in school, be skinny,
pretty and part of the "in" mob, do what your parents expect from you
— but all you want is to discover yourself. And that's when the rebel years
start. It takes a tough fight to break free and most kids lose out in one way
or another. I am very individualistic and personal freedom is my thing. I broke
free by discovering music, metal — it spoke directly to my heart, it was very
different and it goes against any sort of social mainstream. But I had to pay a
price as well and I struggled hard with eating disorders for a while. The goal
is to overcome such self-destruction. I found my way out, I was never prone to
suicide, I always fight 'till I come out on top. Not everybody is born a
fighter, though, but one can aspire to become one. I believe heavy metal is a
good soundtrack for that sort of spirit. It also helps to channel frustration
and aggression so you don't have to turn it all against yourself. Life is never
easy, no matter what age you are in. We live in a very crowded and vile world
where the weak ones get run over and cast aside. I feel protecting the helpless
ones, especially children and animals, from the "beast of man" is a
very important task. I also want to give hope and strength [to] those who
struggle — with my words and with our music. Many teens have nobody who listens
or to lean on — music can be a very powerful support for them.
BangaloreMirror: What bands did you listen to while growing up?
Angela: I am a child of the late thrash and early death metal period in
the '90s. I grew up on SLAYER, TESTAMENT, MEGADETH, CARCASS, MORBID ANGEL, DISMEMBER, ENTOMBED, etc., and still to this
day these are my fave bands to listen to.
BangaloreMirror: From a fan to the vocalist of the band. How would you describe this
transformation?
Angela: I started singing in a death metal band in 1991. I joined ARCH
ENEMY in 2001 — so I have been a vocalist before ARCH ENEMY even
released their first album, "Black Earth", in 1996. I was a
big CARCASS fan, and I followed their members closely after their
disbanded. Michael Amott was the only one who picked up where CARCASS left — he formed a death metal band — ARCH ENEMY. I loved the albums and
its pretty surreal still to this day that I got to join them after they parted
ways with the former singer. That is life — you never know what it has in store
for you. I was always very driven to turn my dreams into reality. I fought hard
for everything I got. And I kept that spirit when joining ARCH ENEMY.
Thus we went from being an insider tip to one of the most successful extreme
metal bands from Sweden
today.
BangaloreMirror: How does it feel to be one of the most successful female growlers
around?
Angela: It is very rewarding. It shows that hard work, dedication and
passion pays off in the end. Don't dream your life — live your dream. That's my
motto. And it has worked out. It has been a roller coaster ride and very hard
at times — being the singer and the manager of a band means a brutal amount of
work — but the end result is to live the life I want to live, to be my own
master and to create my own destiny. It makes me feel very content and in
charge of my own luck. It is very powerful.
BangaloreMirror: So does the style of music put a frequent strain on your voice?
Angela: Yes, of course. We tour a lot, play many, many shows. I cannot
party and I have to take great care of my voice and my general health. I am a
vegan, I eat very healthy, I exercise a lot, I do not drink at all and I do not
smoke. My life is dedicated to keeping my voice and the band strong. There is
no room for error, excess or weakness. I have to be a 100% disciplined at all
times.
BangaloreMirror: You write lyrics for ARCH ENEMY. What goes on in your mind
while penning down the lyrics? What inspires you? What do the themes and topics
revolve around? Do the topics tend to change over time?
Angela: The lyrics I write deal with the topics I think about, things
that move me. They are inspired by the reality we live in, social injustice,
the strive for independence and personal freedom. Freedom from society, from
fear, from governments, from religion, from tradition. I also feel very strong
about environmental and animal protection, so some lyrics (for example "Night Falls
Fast" from "Rise Of The Tyrant" or "Cruelty
Without Beauty" from "Khaos Legions") deal with those
topics. I am an outspoken atheist and a liberal, green anarchist — you will
find many of those philosophies in my lyrics.
BangaloreMirror: What do you do aside from the band?
Angela: Nothing. Everything I do revolves around the band. I work out
hard to stay fit. I am very interested in healthy eating and living, I keep up
with the current Zeitgeist and developments in the world — so I can put this
into ARCH ENEMY. I manage ARCH ENEMY, I am involved in everything
from contractual obligations, to finances, tour booking, live production,
artwork, merchandise — so I have to master a big workload every day.
BangaloreMirror: What comes to
your mind when you hear India?
Angela: I spent three weeks in Kerala, experiencing the real India very
closely. It was not a luxurious holiday resort but a very simple, traditional
Ayurveda clinic I lived in. I got to talk to many Indian people, especially
women. Kerala is one of the most advanced regions in India in regards to education. Yet
the women I spoke to said they don't have much of a chance to have a career
after their studies because tradition still dictates them to get married, have
children and stop working… but there was a strong sense of change there. India is a very
fast-developing country, It is huge, many different religions and traditions
clash. It is a place in constant change and full of beauty, resources and
possibilities. I think India's
women are very strong and I believe they will have achieved equality in the
near future. I am sure you find the most advanced social balance in the big
cities like Mumbai. We will play in India in November (19th) and I am
very much looking forward to get to know it a little. I just hope there won't
be any terrorist attacks from Muslim extremists. It makes me sad that religion
still brings so much pain and suffering to innocent people in this day and age.
BangaloreMirror: Are you aware of any Indian bands?
Angela: No, not really. They don't get any exposure over here in Europe. But I am will do some research online now — see
if I can discover some. I also hope to get to see some live when we come over
for the show in November in India!
BangaloreMirror: Any message for your fans?
Angela: Fight for your dreams and your freedom. Treat each other with
respect and love. Question all authorities and never give up hope. If you feel
down, chat with fellow metal fans or listen to your favorite record. This has
always helped me in times of darkness. We hope to meet you all one day and get
to play live for you. Until then — stay pure fucking metal!
"Jasta", the debut solo album from Jamey
Jasta of HATEBREED and KINGDOM OF SORROW, sold around 4,000
copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position
No. 133 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD landed at position No. 1 on the Top
New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by
new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top
100 of The Billboard 200.
"Jasta" was released in North America on July 26 via eOne
Music and in Europe one day earlier
through Century Media Records.
"Jasta" track listing:
01. Walk That Path Alone
02. Mourn The Illusion
03. Screams From The Sanctuary
04. Nothing They Say
05. Anthem Of The Freedom Fighter
06. Something You Should Know (feat. Phil Labonte of ALL THAT REMAINS)
07. Set You Adrift
08. Enslaved, Dead or Depraved (feat. Randy Blythe of LAMB OF GOD)
09. With A Resounding Voice (feat. Tim Lambesis of AS I LAY DYING)
10. The Fearless Must Endure (feat. Zakk Wylde of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY)
11. Heart Of A Warrior (feat. Mike Vallely)
12. Death Bestowed (feat. Mark Morton of LAMB OF GOD)
During an interview with Metal Assault, Jamey stated about his
solo album, "It's just more of the thrash and rock element in it. I think
there's a lot more clean singing than I'm used to doing. It's a lot of stuff
that I recorded for other artists, but it ended up sounding cool so I just left
it in there. My engineer was really liking the stuff that I was doing. I still
have a lot of guest parts on there — Randy Blythe from LAMB OF GOD, Zakk Wylde, Phil Labonte [of ALL THAT REMAINS], Tim from AS I LAY DYING, Mark Morton from LAMB OF GOD — so
it's just like a fun project before we do the next HATEBREED album."
"I did all of it by myself, except for the guest parts. I did it all
throughout 2008, 2009 and 2010 so it was fun to go back, listen to those old
tracks and go, 'These are still good, let's release them!' I'm just very lucky
that I'm in a position to be able to do this and I'm grateful that the eOne
label is giving it such a great push."
When asked if the release of his solo album will impact songwriting for the
next HATEBREED CD, Jamey replied, "No, not at all. Actually
that's why I wanted to get it out now because the next HATEBREED album
is going to be short, to the point and brutal, and there will be no melody.
This is my one chance to kind of get it out of the system."
Regarding whether he plans to tour behind the solo material, Jamey said,
"I don't see myself doing a lot of touring for this at all. I'd like to,
but I really want to focus on getting HATEBREED out for the rest of the
year. We'll be going to South America, Australia, then we'll do Europe
and the States again so it's going to be a lot of touring. Plus the only time
to see KINGDOMOF SORROW is this
summer on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. That is the only
time you'll see me and Kirk [Windstein, KINGDOMOF SORROW guitarist] together because DOWN is going to be busy, CROWBAR will be busy, and HATEBREED too. So this is it."
AVENGED SEVENFOLD, KORN and GODSMACK will lead the lineup of the inaugural 48 Hours Festival, scheduled for

two-stage event will also feature performances from FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, THREE DAYS GRACE, SEETHER, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, HOLLYWOOD
UNDEAD, SICK PUPPIES, ESCAPE THE FATE, SEVENDUST, ADELITAS
WAY, REV THEORY, 10 YEARS, ART OF DYING and many more.
According to a press release, there will be an after-party at the House of
Blues in the Mandalay Bay resort each day after the show is over, followed by
an "after-after-party" at Olympic Gardens.
Tickets for the 48 Hours Festival go on sale Saturday (August 6) at
10:00 a.m. PT and can be purchased at LiveNation.com or Ticketmaster.com.
Two-day weekend ticket packages start at $99 and VIP packages are also
available: "The Godfather – All Access", which will allow fans to
watch the show from the stage and backstage bar access; "All Excess –
Cabanas", featuring full service cabanas with premium elevated sight
lines; and "Debauchery VIP", with a VIP-only tent and private bar.
Once-in-a-lifetime VIP concert experience packages will also be offered online.
In addition, those in attendance will have a chance to be upgraded to VIP
status as random winners will be announced on stage during the show.
Along with performances from the hardest rocking bands, 48 Hours Festival powered by Rockstar Energy Drink will also provide a one-of-a-kind
social experience where pleasure seekers can get a taste of the seven deadly
sins all weekend! The Rockstar Metal Militia will be throwing down their
big air freestyle motocross chaos with multiple daily jump shows. The
festival's second stage will highlight some of rock's best up-and-coming groups
to kick off the party, while the main stage will have, in true Vegas style,
spectacular lighting and amazing production.
Neil Chrisley of Gibson.com conducted an interview with RAGE AGAINST THE
MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello. A couple of excerpts from the chat
follow below.
Gibson.com: Is it true that a talent show at a homeless shelter helped
inspire THE NIGHTWATCHMAN project?
Morello: Yes. That was very impactful in the sense of pushing me out of
the nest, and making me want to do more than just strum around the fireplace at
home. It was a Thanksgiving event at a teen homeless shelter called Covenant
House, in Hollywood.
Each year they have a talent show and a dinner, and I would go there and emcee.
There was a 19-year-old kid there who was really down and out, with a troubled
past and a potentially troubled future. He didn't have a great voice, but he
stepped up to the mic and sang as if the soul of everyone in the room was at
stake. He obviously just thought, "I've got some ideas in my head, and I can
put three or four chords together." What he was doing felt important in a way
that a lot of music on the radio doesn't. I thought, "Man, I really want
to get involved in something like that." It made me want to go out and do
this in front of people.
Gibson.com: Each NIGHTWATCHMAN album has featured more full-band
arrangements than the previous album. How did that play out?
Morello: That's true. The first album, "One Man Revolution",
is very stark, and very much a "three chords and truth" sort of
thing. With "The Fabled City", we moved
toward more fleshed out instrumentation. Both those albums were produced by Brendan
O'Brien, and he was the principal backup musician on most of "The Fabled City".
The short answer is, for the tour for "The Fabled City" I brought a full band with me — the FREEDOM FIGHTER ORCHESTRA. It's a
great band — a group of talented friends who all share a great chemistry. So,
for the "Union Town" EP and for "World Wide Rebel Songs", I wanted to bring that band into the
studio. I was really happy with the results. There's a lot of electric guitar
playing on "World Wide Rebel Songs", and some electric guitar
solos, but it keeps intact the Americana
vibe of the first two albums. There's just a lot more "Tom Morello"
there, to go with THE NIGHTWATCHMAN.
Gibson.com: Both RAGE and THE NIGHTWATCHMAN are fierce
advocates for social and political change. RAGE does that loudly, and THE
NIGHTWATCHMAN does it quietly, for the most part. Which inspires more
action among listeners?
Morello: The message of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE — Zack's
lyrics — is delivered in a powerful and impactful way. The spoonful of sugar
that makes that medicine go down is the thundering, undeniable rock music and
funk music that RAGE delivers. That's created rebels around the globe,
over the course of the last 20 years. With THE NIGHTWATCHMAN stuff, it's
very different. I've discovered that sometimes a whisper can be just as
effective as a scream. Certainly the commercial impact of RAGE AGAINST THE
MACHINE far outstrips the solo stuff, but to me the latter is no less
important.

on the U.S. Heatseekers charts and the single "Martyr No More" was a theme song for the WWE Royal Rumble. "Remains Alive" is a 2005 live album (recorded in Australia) that was previously
available in digital format only.
FOZZY's latest album, "Chasing The Grail", sold around
2,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD
landed at position No. 6 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart,
which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as

"Ruining It For Everybody", the new album
from IWRESTLEDABEARONCE — the Shreveport, Louisiana
quintet now transplanted to Los Angeles, California — sold around 5,300 copies in the United States
in its first week of release to debut at position No. 80 on The Billboard 200
chart.
The fearless fivesome — Krysta Cameron (vocals), Steven Bradley (guitar, keyboard, programming, samples), John Ganey (guitar, keyboard,
programming, samples), Mike "Rickshaw" Martin (bass) and Mikey
Montgomery (drums) — still bludgeons with the best of them. In fact, their
psychotic polyrhythmic groove fuels "Ruining It For Everybody".
Simultaneously, IWRESTLEDABEARONCE completely embrace their inner RADIOHEAD,
elegantly exorcising eerie emotion via singer Krysta Cameron.
Breakneck guitar battery subsides during a haunting chorus on the album's first
single, "Karate Nipples". Elsewhere on "Next Visible
Delicious", glitchy electronics derail into a vaudevillian death metal
delirium. Closing track "Button It Up" ventures into raw, real
darkness. IWRESTLEDABEARONCE have ruined heavy music, because no one can
compete with them now.
Bradley encapsulates the band's sound this time around. "It's
heavier, catchier, and better organized than anything we've done so far. We
took a really spastic blend of genres and made it more cohesive."
"The album is another story and chapter in my life," reveals Cameron.
"A lot has happened since the release of our debut, and it means a lot to
me that I get to express my thoughts, beliefs, and feelings through this
album."
IWRESTLEDABEARONCE don't shroud anything in mystery, and they're doing
exactly what they want. For Bradley, the album title serves as the
ultimate middle finger to expectations, conventions, and the norm. "We do
whatever the fuck we want, and that normally ends up pissing people off,"
he declares. "We like to take elements from every style and genre and ruin
them for everybody."
For Cameron, that deconstruction includes delving deeper than your
average metal singer. On "Next Visible Delicious", she serves
up a warning about the dangers of not thinking for oneself. "People
believe anything fed to them if they are told by someone with power that it's
truth. Your head will spin trying to rationalize religion, politics, and
environment. The song references mother nature becoming fed up with our ways
and swallowing us whole. It's a warning of our long-awaited Armageddon. No, not
the movie…"
"Ruining It For Everybody" track listing:
01. Next Visible Delicious
02. You Know That Ain't Them Dogs' Real Voices
03. Deodorant Can't Fix Ugly
04. This Head Music Makes My Eyes Rain
05. It Is "Bro" Isn't It?
06. Gold Jacket, Green Jacket
07. Break It Down Camacho
08. Stay to the Right
09. I'm Gonna Shoot
10. Karate Nipples
11. Button It Up
"Tactical", the debut album from WORLD
UNDER BLOOD — the melodic death metal side project featuring CKY guitarist/vocalist Deron Miller alongside Tim Yeung (MORBID
ANGEL, DIVINE HERESY, VITAL REMAINS, HATE ETERNAL) on
drums, Risha Eryavec (DECREPIT BIRTH) on bass, and Luke Jaeger on guitar — sold around 900 copies in the United States in its first week of
release. The CD landed at position No. 32 on the Top New Artist Albums
(Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing
artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The
Billboard 200.
The artwork for "Tactical" was brought to life by the twisted
mind of Pär Olofsson (IMMORTAL, THE FACELESS, ABYSMAL
DAWN) and can be seen below.
"Tactical" track listing:
01. A God Among The Waste
02. Into The Arms Of Cruelty
03. Pyro-Compulsive
04. Dead And Still In Pain
05. Purgatory Dormitory
06. Under The Autumn Low
07. I Can't Stand His Name
08. Revere's
Tears (with intro)
09. Wake Up Dead (MEGADETH cover song)
10. AllianceOr War (iTunes-exclusive MALEVOLENT CREATION cover song)
In an early 2010 online posting, Miller stated about the WORLD UNDER
BLOOD debut, "The goal for the eight original tunes that ended up on
this album was that they would all be super-fast, extremely brutal and harsh,
catchy, melodic, and occasionally offensive and disturbing. I also had to make
sure that the entire band was satisfied with their work.
"Tim Yeung is easily the most impressive drummer in the world. He
thinks that some kid is going to come along and dethrone him speed-wise, but as
far as writing, arrangements, creative input and immediate knowledge of song
structure, he will never be beat. It's like the guy can read my mind. I present
a somewhat intricate song to him and 50 minutes later we're demoed and
done."
Guitarist-turned-producer James Murphy, who worked on "Tactical",
previously stated about the project, "WORLD UNDER BLOOD bridge a
gap between genres that has never been bridged.... a few have tried with mixed
results, but this is the first real resounding success of fusing brutal, blasting
death metal with a melodic American rock vibe and it opens a door that will
turn into a floodgate... I'm very happy to have been picked by Deron to
mix this project ... he really pulls it together on this one musically and Tim's
performance is stellar as well."
WORLD UNDER BLOOD is:
* Deron Miller (CKY) - Guitar/Vocals
* Tim Yeung (DIVINE HERESY, VITAL REMAINS, HATE ETERNAL) - Drums
* Risha Eryavec (DECREPIT BIRTH) - Bass
* Luke Jaeger – Guitar

Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums
by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the
Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
"Carnival Is Forever" was released in North America on July 12 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD's
cover art was created by Lukasz Jaszak and can be seen below. The
follow-up to 2006's "Organic Hallucinosis" was recorded at Radio
Gdansk Studio in Poland

Norwegian black metal act THRONE OF KATARSIS will
release its new album, "Ved Graven", on October 24 in Europe
and November 1 in the U.S.
via Candlelight Records.
According to a press release, "the album title 'Ved Graven' can be
translated to 'At the Grave', and is by far the darkest material written by the
band to this date.
"Cold, raw, and with the bizarre aura of an everlasting funeral, THRONE
OF KATARSIS delivers their requiem in honor of the final darkness. During
three long nights the seven rites of this album was recorded. The séance was
done in darkness and with poisoned minds, and with a dedication closer to a
possession rather than anything else. All instruments and vocal were recorded
live in the studio, in order to capture the aura the band creates during their
convocations. A couple of guitar leads were added to the mix, and also church
organ — recorded at nighttime at a local church during a highly blasphemic
ceremony.
"To complete the vision, Njard drawed the cover art, and Stein
Sund assisted the mixing and mastering of the album. This is their third
studio album, and continues the march towards the funeral."
After seven years as a "demonic duo," THRONE OF KATARSIS is
now a quartet, consisting of Infamroth (voice, guitar and church organ), Skinndød (guitar), Sanrabb (bass) and Vardalv (drums).
"Ved Graven" track listing:

02. Helvete Kaller
