Can they go with you for a while before work? Get their numbers and names on the list, hang out for awhile and then go to work? That would work better. If they just show up after work after not having been there at all all day, they will probably miss roll calls and wristbands, etc. and would lose "their place" in line.
You may have to be prepared to be in a different place in line from them or get in line where ever the line may be when they show up.
