Montreal metro has created a site, Twitter feed, and fare card (!!) for the U2 shows - details are here: http://www.stm.info/English/info/a-U2.htm

You can take the metro to the Hippodrome. That would be the best way.
Just ask at the hotel where you are staying and they will help you out. Montreal has good transit.

We had GA's before in Toronto two years ago, and we got there too late and spent most of the time watching the band on screen just outside the ellipse. Would rather not repeat that experience.

Sounds like if you have GA tickets we'll be doing a lot of camping around the horse track! I think the places to eat/site see will be limited!

The better restaurants are actually NOT in Old Montreal; Old Montreal is a tourist trap. I don't like it--pretty to walk through but I would eat in the downtown area.

Is there anything to see around the Hippodrome or are you better off staying closer to downtown or old Montreal? Google street view of the Hippodrome looks like a strip mall to me, so I'm not sure there will be anything to do around there....
