JUNE 2011 – Omara "Bombino" Moctar, a young North African guitarist and songwriter, was raised in Niger during an era of armed struggles for Tuareg independence and violent suppression by government forces. Bombino experienced this first hand - his own government executed two of his bandmates and he was twice exiled from his home country.

The electrifying jams on his new release, Agadez (now available on Cumbancha Discovery), capture the spirit of resistance and rebellion while echoing with guitar riffs reminiscent of fellow Africans Tinariwen and Ali Farka Touré not to mention rock and blues icons such as Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker and Jimmy Page. Already a superstar in the Tuareg community, the album has captured the ears and imaginations of critics and fans in North America leading to praise in national press and high sales rankings including landing at #1 on iTunes sales charts. With the Agadez World Tour (starting July 7th in North America) Bombino's stature as one of Africa's hottest young guitarists will be revealed to the world.

Bombino will perform at Lula Lounge in Toronto on July 12th. The show begins at 8:00PM. Eon, of the celebrated Canadian band Bedouin Soundclash, will DJ before and after Bombino's set. The North American segment of Bombino's Agadez World Tour tour brings him to a number of high profile venues and festivals including the Dave Matthews Band Caravan, Hollywood Bowl, the Millennium Park in Chicago, Le Poisson Rouge in New York, and Festival d'Ete in Quebec.
