hello friend,
there are great italian groups that made a very impressive work, mainly in the 70's. beyond pfm here is a list of italian bands that i (imho) think deserve a special atention from those who likes 70's progressive and classic rock:
- banco
- le orme
- osanna
- museo rosenbach
- new trolls
- quella vecchia locanda
- formula 3
- garybaldi
- delirium
- apoteosi
- maxophone
- alphataurus
- semiramis
- rocky's filj
- locanda delle fate
- goblin
- campo di marte
- l'uovo di colombo
- nico gianni frank maurizio
- pierrot lunaire
- era di acquario
- metamorfosi
- jet
- ibis
- balleto di bronzo
- acqua fragile
- nova
- area
and others...
some of these groups recorded in england and were "sheltered" by important names like greg lake, pete townshend, peter sinfield... for exemple, like pfm, the group banco del mutuo soccorso recorded for the manticore label. the group le orme toured u.s.a. and recorded an entire album, called "smogmagica", in los angeles.
but in fact, most of the groups that i listed above recorded only 1 or 2 great albums and then disappeared.
best regards from brazil
yuri

They were an Italian Progressive Rock band that appeared as an opener for Emerson, Lake and Palmer in 1971/2, and thus, were signed to ELP's Mantocore Records label. They released three English lyric LP's on Manticore - Pictures Of Ghosts, World became The World, and Cook. This last is a live LP recorded all over America; it was released in slightly different order of songs in Europe as Live in USA. The first two LP's mentioned were merely English re-writes of albums they had already released in Italy. Peter Sinfield did the fully new English lyrics for Ghosts, and produced the album. These guys are credited with introducing the synthesizer to the Italian music scene. I saw them open for ELP in 1973; they were OK. Much liek Starcastle, and nowhere near as accessible as Genesis, Can, Yes, Camel, Amon Duul and Tangerine Dream. I suspect in a larger Italian speaking world, these guys woudl have been huge.I am sure if you dig hard enough, you will find their Italian albums. The titles of these are long lost in my memory.Ed VitaleOn Thu, May 5, 2011 at 6:22 PM, Cfh <cfhiebert@sasktel.net> wrote:
I'm trying to think about what PFM could possibly stand for. Nothing came to mind.A quick search came up withThe duo behind many of Good Looking Records' early releases. Jamie later left the group. PFM stands for "Progressive Future Music"Is that who you are referring to?Clint----- Original Message -----From: J MSent: Thursday, May 05, 2011 12:46 AMSubject: [Classic_Rock_Forever] PFM
