PFM stands for Premiata Forneria Marconi. They were an Italian Progressive Rock band that appeared as an opener for Emerson, Lake and Palmer in 1971/2, and thus, were signed to ELP's Mantocore Records label. They released three English lyric LP's on Manticore - Pictures Of Ghosts, World became The World, and Cook. This last is a live LP recorded all over America; it was released in slightly different order of songs in Europe as Live in USA. The first two LP's mentioned were merely English re-writes of albums they had already released in Italy. Peter Sinfield did the fully new English lyrics for Ghosts, and produced the album.

These guys are credited with introducing the synthesizer to the Italian music scene. I saw them open for ELP in 1973; they were OK. Much liek Starcastle, and nowhere near as accessible as Genesis, Can, Yes, Camel, Amon Duul and Tangerine Dream. I suspect in a larger Italian speaking world, these guys woudl have been huge.

I am sure if you dig hard enough, you will find their Italian albums. The titles of these are long lost in my memory.
