Upcoming releases: three to watch

It's been the subject of much speculation (not to mention unrest in the Aerosmith ranks) for a couple of years. Now, Steven Tyler will be releasing his first solo single, (It) Feels So Good on May 3. Not so coincidentally, that's the same day that Tyler's autobiography, Does The Noise In My Head Bother You? will be released.
Sometimes, the mere fact that a long dormant band reunites, records a new album, and goes on tour is just as significant as the band's new music. In the case of The Cars, the event may be even more significant than the result
For the first time since 1987, surviving original members of The Cars (Ric Ocasek, Greg Hawkes, David Robinson, Elliot Easton) have reunited for an album of new music, and a brief tour. As long as your expectations are realistic, you'll probably like the result. Here's my review of The Cars' Move Like This.
The trouble with once having been a rock star singer and songwriter ranking in the classic rock stratosphere is that the longer you write and perform, the harder it is to live up to the standard of your own best work. Few artists have singing-songwriting credentials that even approach those Stevie Nicks has, but that sets an almost impossibly high standard for her work today. Nicks' seventh studio album was released this week, and it's hard not to judge it more against her work with Fleetwood Mac than against her previous solo work. By both standards, In Your Dreams has some hits and some misses.
