Dear friends we cherish and colleagues we admire,

It has been fierce competition between 13 African Countries. Since the 14th though the 15th of May, 2011. African countries have slugged it out on the soccer field opposite of the Yankee stadium in the Bronx. It is without a doubt that Soccer is truly an African Game. After two days of intense competition with 13 countries, it's all down to 4 countries. The final day of the Bronx Week African Soccer Tournament is Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 12pm.

For those who didn't make the Opening ceremony, here is a summary:

May 14th
1:15 Naby introduced the Chairman of AAC
1:20 Famod Konneh welcoming remarks
1:25: Borough president gave remarks greeted players, Match commissioners & AAC Officials
1:35: Assemblywoman Vanessa Gibson gave remark & greeted the players & officials
1:40: Borough President Kicked Off.
Match 1: Niger 4: Ghana 1
Match 2: DR Congo(No show) Vs. Guinea(qualified)
Match 3: Togo 2 Nigeria 3 (penalty kick)
Match 4: Liberia 1 Ethiopia 2

May 15th
Match 5: Gambia Vs Cote D'Ivoire – Gambia advanced
Match 6: Senegal Vs. Cameroon – Senegal Advanced
Match 7: Niger Vs. Guinea- Guinea advanced
Match 8: Nigeria Vs. Ethiopia – Ethiopia advanced
Match 9: Senegal - Cote D'Ivoire – Cote D'Ivoire advanced
Match 10: Gambia Vs Togo- Gambia advanced

We are constantly reminded that soccer is a team sport and that the most disciplined team usually wins. So, who will be the next African Champion???? Come see for yourself, don't be told!!


Final matches on May 21, 2011
Game K: Winner G Vs. Winner H
12am – 2pm GUINEA ETHIOPIA

Game L: Winner I Vs. Winner J
2pm – 4pm GAMBIA COTE D' IVOIRE


Final

Game M: Winner K Vs. Winner L
5pm – 7pm

Total 13 Games.
-Each game will be played for 80 minutes
-Penalty kicks after 80 minutes in a case of a draw
-15 minutes grace period for each team
-Points we be forfeited by the late team and given to the opposing team
-No consideration
-Please bring your country flag.


The venue is Macomb Dam Park on East 161st Street (opposite the Yankees Stadium). There will be live performances and Music all day long. The Deputy Borough President Madam Aurelia Greene will grace the occasion. We expect the presence of some African ambassadors as well.


As a reminder, the Bronx Week Parade is Sunday, May 22, 2011. The African Advisory Council's spot is "GROUP A". Be there and celebrate the African diversity!!!

Note that the official trophy and medals award ceremony is on May 25th, at 2006 Westchester avenue in the Bronx. The event will also commemorate the official ratification of May 25th as the Africa Union day. The Borough president, some Africa nations' ambassadors will be there. You should too. Come ready for the After Party! Bring the entire family!!!!
