During a press conference announcing the Rock the City festival organized by D&D East Entertainment, German producer and manager of Romanian origins, Marcel Avram (in picture) announced that Irish band U2 will not be coming to Romania this year. Rumors had appeared at the start of the year in the local press about the band's arrival in the country on the newly renovated national stadium, that is to be inaugurated in August.
Bon Jovi could have been another option for the stadium's inauguration, but the main impediment against the American band's holding a concert on Lia Manoliu is the late inauguration of the stadium and the commitment made for the first event held on the location to be a football game (Romania-Argentina is the announced match), said Avram. Avram also emphasized the fact that he and D&D East Entertainment will be the ones to bring the first artist on the stadium.
Avram brought U2 to Germany last year and he hopes that he will manage to have them hold a concert in Romania next year.
