Joe Siegler of the unofficial BLACK SABBATH web site Black-Sabbath.com has revealed more details about the forthcoming deluxe-expanded-edition reissue of BLACK SABBATH's "Born Again" album, which is due in the U.K. on May 30 via Sanctuary. He writes, "It's been heavily rumored for some time now that 'Born Again' was getting a little extra treatment. In the Universal Deluxe Edition series, they went from 'Heaven And Hell' / 'Mob Rules' / 'Live Evil' to the release batch that had 'Seventh Star' and 'Eternal Idol' (November 2010). Then in February 2011, they did 'Dehumanizer'. 'Born Again' got skipped over. I was told earlier in 2010 that 'Born Again' was going to be skipped (even before its turn in the original release order came up), because they were doing some extra work on it, hence the extra time, or 'delay.' I later came to believe from a couple of sources that it was because it was finally getting the legendary 'proper mix.'

"You've all heard the stories about Ian Gillan's hearing the final mix and throwing up. Well, the rumors go that the 2011 release of the album would do away with Mr. Gillan's propensity for vomiting in regards to the final mix.

"When the news broke of what is going to be on the 'Born Again' two-CD Deluxe Edition a couple of days ago, I decided to look into the status of the original album's representation in the package. Much to the disappointment of several people, I was told that the album was not remixed — it was just remastered. When I inquired why, I was told that they couldn't find the original multi-track master tapes that would be needed to do a remix. This was the primary reason for the delay, that they kept trying to track down the multi-tracks to do a remix, but could not. They couldn't delay the release indefinitely, so instead, they opted for a completely new remaster. The only other time the album was remastered was in 1996 for the Castle remaster series.

"It's disappointing yes, but all is not lost.

"[BLACK SABBATH guitarist] Tony Iommi's manager did go on to say this: 'The tapes have been held by a number of labels — Vertigo, Castle, Sanctuary, Universal, and moved around, which is why we still have hopes that they have simply been separated.'

"They haven't completely given up hope on the 'proper remix' project, which is good news."

Official press release for BLACK SABBATH "Born Again" Deluxe Expanded Edition:

Following the departure of lead singer Ronnie James Dio and drummer Vinny Appice after the studio mixing of the "Live Evil" album, BLACK SABBATH were once again on the lookout for yet another lead vocalist to fill the significant void left at stage front. The band turned to ex-DEEP PURPLE lead singer Ian Gillan.

The resultant album and live touring certainly made for one of the more curious associations in the world of heavy metal. Much of this era of BLACK SABBATH has passed into rock folklore and was actually the source for much of the material used in the rockumentary movie "This Is Spinal Tap". From the replica stage production of Stonehenge, which was too large for some of the venues on the world tour, to the employment of a dwarf to dress up and play the part of the "devil-baby" from the LP front cover, the world of BLACK SABBATH took on a distinct air of the surreal.

Whilst the well-received "Born Again" album and live dates succeeded in stoking the embers and kept the SABBATH flames burning, this would ultimately be a marriage built more on friendship and respect as opposed to any long-standing and compatible musical association. After one tour, Ian Gillan would eventually bid farewell and re-join his old sparring partners for the Mk. II reunion of DEEP PURPLE and leave BLACK SABBATH once more gazing into the crystal ball hoping the face of yet another lead vocalist would reveal itself.

For Iommi, Butler, Ward, Gillan, and keyboardist Geoff Nicholls, work would swiftly commence in May of '83 at the Manor Studios in the village of Shiptonon-Cherwell, Oxfordshire. Produced by BLACK SABBATH and co-producer Robin Black, who had also worked on 1975's "Sabotage", 1976's "Technical Ecstasy", and 1978's "Never Say Die", SABBATH's eleventh studio release would represent a radical departure from the gloomy atmospherics and blackened lyricism that had forged their identity and spawned innumerable descendants.

Gillan's approach to song-writing bespoke a lighter-hearted approach to what had, until then, been the primary concern of Butler. Album opener "Trashed", for instance, was inspired by Gillan's boozed-up race around the Manor's grounds in Bill Ward's car that ended in near-catastrophe and a wrecked vehicle. "Disturbing The Priest" was the result of a door in the studio having been left open during playback, and a local vicar appearing in the doorway asking for the volume to be turned down as it was disturbing choir practice in the adjacent village.

For all of its off-kilter appearance however, "Born Again" was still SABBATH through and through. Musically twisted and possessed with more than a whiff of brimstone, the album is a thrilling glimpse into an alternative world.

For this re-mastered Deluxe Expanded Edition, a second disc containing two bonus tracks is included, with "The Fallen" being a previously unreleased studio outtake recorded during the original album session. Also included are nine tracks from the BBC "Friday Rock Show" broadcast of BLACK SABBATH's appearance at the Reading rock festival in August 1983, which also includes a performance of DEEP PURPLE's classic "Smoke On The Water".

According to OnSight.co.uk, after workflow planning for the three-day, 20-camera shoot, it was up to On Sight to make sure everything went smoothly. Axis Films took care of all HD cameras (including 15 REDs) as well as the production equipment. Axis Films also supplied DITs to manage all of the digital rushes produced during the three sold-out shows.

The seamless production was completed by the HD Lab who provided conform, online, mastering and deliverable services for Serpent Productions, who regularly work with some of the world's best-known artists.

AC/DC singer Brian Johnson said in a recent interview that the band has no immediate plans following the set's release, explaining, "We just want to have a rest, because we were on the road for two years. We played in front of five million people, and we deserve a rest."

Footage from AC/DC's Buenos Aires concerts was previously used in the video for the band's classic album cut "Shoot To Thrill", which served as the first single from AC/DC's "Iron Man 2" soundtrack (featuring catalog material from the mid-1970s onwards). The video also incorporated exclusive footage from "Iron Man 2".

The Buenos Aires concerts were part of AC/DC's highly acclaimed "Black Ice World Tour", the second-highest-grossing world tour of 2009, according to concert industry trade publication Pollstar.
IRON MAIDEN's official photographer John McMurtrie has been on the road with the band since Ed Force One — the wonderful customized Boeing 757 owned by the MAIDEN, used to transport the band, its 60-member crew and 12 tons of equipment as they tour the world — first took to the skies back in January 2008, capturing not only the "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour" but also the current "Round The World In 66 Days" leg of "The Final Frontier Tour". This extensive coverage is soon to be made available in the form of a glossy, hardback IRON MAIDEN photographic book. Tentatively entitled "On Board Flight 666", it will be published by Orion Books later this year and will feature hundreds of stunning photos which give an exclusive, behind-the-scenes pictorial documentation of the tours. Many of the images will be accompanied by captions, allowing the reader a first-hand glimpse into life aboard Ed Force One and its groundbreaking exploits on this intimate
visual journey into the world of MAIDEN.

IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson's video tour of Ed Force One can be viewed in two parts below.

Ed Force One is named after MAIDEN's infamous mummy mascot "Eddie" and is piloted by Dickinson.
According to a new poll conducted by U.K. music and dating web site Tastebuds.fm, fans of NIRVANA, METALLICA and LINKIN PARK are most likely to go "all the way" on a first date. The site asked all of 400 users "how far they'd likely go" on a first date and then collated the information to find out band's fans were the most, and least, likely to go "all the way." Possible answers included "I'd only meet up for a chat" and "I'd go all the way if the mood was right."

Fans of LADY GAGA, ADELE and COLDPLAY were found to be far less interested in engaging in sex, at least on a first date.

Vocalist Wade Black (CRIMSON GLORY, SEVEN WITCHES, LEATHERWOLF) has left DEUXMONKEY, the project led by former ANTHRAX guitarist Dan Spitz. Wade says in a statement, "I've searched the world for musicians that possessed the talent and shared vision to bring you a band like no other. I have found it in BLACK REIGN! During my quest for the ultimate band lineup, I did a short stint with Dan Spitz for his DEUXMONKEY project, thinking this might be the band that would be the answer to my quest. I quickly realized it wasn't! I gave Dan a verbal cease-and-desist on all my lyrics and vocals. I felt the songs were not up to my standards, and they were not to be released with my vocals. He agreed. Now, almost a year later, he's trying to release those songs with my vocals. Further, he is making misleading statements, saying that I'm in that band. The reality is that he is lying to all of his fans and mine, stealing my voice, lyrics and likeness — all to serve
his own needs. I say it one more time so the world can hear me as well: Dan, cease and desist from using any of my vocals, lyrics, and likeness. Otherwise, the use of my name and likeness and any unauthorized use will be regarded as what it is: stealing! Dan, let's keep this out of the legal system and settle this issue quickly so we can both move on."

In addition to Spitz, DEUXMONKEY features ACCEPT bassist Peter Baltes and drummer Patrick Johansson (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, W.A.S.P. ).

In a December 2010 interview, MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine revealed that he helped fine-tune the songs on DEUXMONKEY's debut album after hearing some of the material in its early stages of development.

"[Dan] was working on a little side project, and I'd heard it a while ago and it kind of went by in passing 'cause he was just starting it," Mustaine said. "And I heard it about three weeks ago; he was almost done. And I said, 'Man, I love this record.' I said, 'And do you think it's done?' And he goes, 'Yeah.' And he goes, 'Why? What do you think?' And I said, 'Well, I would kind of do this and that.' And he goes, 'Really? Go ahead.' And I went, 'Really?' So I rolled up my sleeves and I completely dedicated myself to Danny's record for the last three weeks, working tirelessly in my studio on this record with him. And it's that good. I heard it and I just went, 'Oh my God!' It's like a cross between, say, DISTURBED, SOUNDGARDEN and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE kind of thing. Little bit of some smatterings of ANTHRAX because of the speed stuff, but it's much more modern and much more heavy sounding."

SHINEDOWN has announced details of its forthcoming live, multi-disc CD/DVD collection, "Somewhere In The Stratosphere", which will arrive in stores and at all DSPs on May 3.

The collection — which received its title from a member of the "Shinedown Nation" fan community — will include material filmed and recorded on SHINEDOWN's two epic 2010 headline tours: the inaugural "Carnival Of Madness" tour, in which they topped a stellar lineup of today's biggest rock acts including CHEVELLE, PUDDLE OF MUDD, SEVENDUST, and 10 YEARS; and the highly praised "Anything & Everything" acoustic tour, which featured stripped-down versions of both chart-topping hits and fan favorites alongside intimate conversations with the audience about the stories behind the songs. The Jacksonville, Florida-based band has long been hailed as one of rock's most dynamic live acts. "Somewhere In The Stratosphere" showcases both the energy of their electric show and intimacy of their acoustic sets with a CD/DVD dedicated to each tour (see track listing below).

Frontman Brent Smith comments: "The 'Carnival Of Madness' and 'Anything & Everything' tours were some of the most intense and rewarding shows we've ever played. 'Somewhere In The Stratosphere' allows us to relive those special times with all the fans that came out, and share the experience with those that we didn't get to see on the road."

The pre-order for "Somewhere In The Stratosphere" will begin April 12 on Shinedown.com. Every order includes immediate MP3 downloads of "Diamond Eyes (Live from Washington State)" and "45 (Live Acoustic from Kansas City)". A Premium Pack will also be available, allowing fans to choose from the Standard or Deluxe album, plus a poster and t-shirt. The deluxe version of the multi-disc CD/DVD set includes an expanded 16-page booklet with the four discs each packaged in die-cut baby jackets and housed in a special box.

In other news, SHINEDOWN recently made history when "Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom)", the latest single from the band's RIAA-platinum-certified third album, "The Sound Of Madness", hit #1 at Active Rock radio outlets nationwide. In a truly remarkable feat, ALL six singles from the acclaimed album have now reached the top of the rock airplay rankings. What's more, "The Sound Of Madness" is one of only two platinum-selling albums by a rock band on the current The Billboard 200 chart.

Produced by multiple Grammy Award winner Rob Cavallo (KID ROCK, GREEN DAY), "The Sound Of Madness" debuted at #8 on The Billboard 200 upon its 2008 release before spending 120 consecutive weeks on the chart. Since then, each of the album's five singles prior to "Diamond Eyes" — "Devour", "The Sound of Madness", "The Crow and The Butterfly", the gold-certified "If You Only Knew", and the double-platinum certified crossover smash "Second Chance" — have peaked at #1, marking a genuinely stunning streak of rock radio hits.

Reactivated San Francisco Bay Area thrashers FORBIDDEN have announced their second headlining run of North America. Joining them on the road will be tech-death thrashers REVOCATION, traditional heavy metal champions WHITE WIZZARD, and Colorado-based thrash merchants HAVOK.

Commented FORBIDDEN guitarist Craig Locicero: "FORBIDDEN is proud to announce our first proper headlining tour in 16 years throughout the North America this summer! Finally! We will be bringing out REVOCATION, WHITE WIZZARD and HAVOK along for the fun. These bands are all hungry, cool and young guns and they will add to the excitement!

"Something we witnessed last winter was the economy crushing many tours. A lot of kids just can't afford the ticket prices anymore.

"When we made the jump to the Pantheon Agency a few months ago, we made it clear that we wanted a reduced ticket price and all ages venues. That way all the fans of FORBIDDEN can afford to go and bring their friends of all ages along for a real thrash experience! Well that is just what we've done.

"Ticket prices will be between $10-$15 everywhere we play.

"Step one is complete!

"Step two is the actual gigs themselves. We will be starting at the Whisky in Hollywood on June 9 and then we head North into Canada for an extensive run into the East, South, Midwest to eventually end the tour in San Diego on July 2. These will be raw, intimate and bare-boned thrash metal shows. Exactly how we started it. How it was meant to be!

"So tell your friends, grab your kids...whatever it takes. You are ALL invited to join us on this 'Omega Wave'!"

"Wasted Life", a new demo song from DEAD OF NIGHT, the band featuring SHADOWS FALL guitarists Matt Bachand and Jon Donais along with former members of UNEARTH and SEEMLESS, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.

Combining modern hard rock and metal with powerful vocals, huge driving guitars, and a massive rhythm section, DEAD OF NIGHT is poised to destroy the current stale world of rock. With a strong focus on the melodic elements of the Eighties, the dark harmonies of the Nineties and a new modern twist, Bachand, Donais, Derek Kerswill (UNEARTH, SEEMLESS, KINGDOM OF SORROW), Jeff Fultz (SEEMLESS) and Jason Witte (GOADED) have teamed up to deliver a familiar, but original sound.

After completing a five-song demo in late 2010, DEAD OF NIGHT set out to find a singer who could take the songs to the next level. In stepped Arizona native Jason Witte, whose previous band GOADED featured former members of DIO, Tracy G. and Larry "Bones" Dennison, and current KORN drummer, Ray Luzier. After a few weeks and a flight out to Massachusetts, it was clear that he was up to the task. The new tracks were recorded mostly in each member's home-studio and then sent to Chris "Zeuss" Harris (HATEBREED, SHADOWS FALL) for mixing.

"There are too many bands out there with one radio-friendly song and nine throwaways just to fill up an album," says Jason. "We want our audience to be blown away with each and every song."

DEAD OF NIGHT is:

Jason Witte (ex-GOADED) - Vocals
Matt Bachand (SHADOWS FALL) - Guitar
Jon Donais (SHADOWS FALL) - Guitar
Jeff Fultz (ex-SEEMLESS) - Bass
Derek Kerswill (ex-UNEARTH, SEEMLESS) - Drums

Irish rockers GLYDER will enter the studio on April 18 to begin recording their fourth album, "Backroads To Byzantium", for a September release via SPV/Steamhammer.

Regarding the new CD title, guitarist Bat Kinane said, "We settled on 'Motions Of Time' as an album title a few weeks back for the fourth GLYDER album but it just wasn't feeling right, so after much thought, the [new] title came to me.

"A few months back, I was thinking along the lines of the Yeats poem 'Sailing To Byzantium' as the new album has an underling theme of a journey and my slant on it was 'Backroads To Byzantium'.

"I'm sure you are familiar with the Yeats poem, but the theme is the desire for escape from the hardships of this world and the quest for immortality. Byzantium is that place in Yeats poem, I see us in that quest on a different level and also taking a different route to this place as we are not mainstream, therefore the backroads as opposed to the main road."

On the topic of the songwriting process for the new record, Kinane said, "It all really kicked off first week in January. As Jackie Robinson, our new vocalist, is from Northern Ireland, it wasn't practical to meet up every week for writing and rehearsals, so we worked over email using digital audio recording. We bounced ideas and tracks around back and forward until we achieved the results we wanted. Pete [Fisher] and I would make a backing track of guitar, bass and a drum program and Jackie would add his vocals at his home and email them back. Des and Graham, the new rhythm section, have been working closely with Pete and myself and we are tightening up the arrangements and getting them ready to record."

"Backroads To Byzantium" tentative track listing:

01. Even If I Don't Know Where I'm Gonna Go
02. Two Wrongs
03. Fade To Dust
04. Don't Make Their Mistakes
05. Something She Knows
06. Chronicled Deceit
07. Long Gone
08. End Of The Line
09. Down And Out
10. Motions Of Time

GLYDER 2011 is:

Jackie Robinson - Vocals
Bat Kinane - Guitar, Vocals
Peter Fisher - Guitar
Graham McClatchie - Bass
Des McEvoy - Drums

Two tracks featuring the new lineup are available for free download at this location.

Bat Kinane released a new solo album, "A Lifetime To Kill", in Ireland on October 1, 2010. The set can be purchased via PayPal from BatKinane.com.

GLYDER's third album, "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow", came out on April 26, 2010 via SPV/Steamhammer. The CD featured stunning Mark Wilkinson artwork and a guest solo on the title track by one of rock's finest guitarists, Dave Menketti from Y&T.

GLYDER began its musical journey in 2004 at the annual Phil Lynott tribute gig "Vibe for Philo" in Dublin. Three albums and two EPs later, GLYDER had developed a very distinguishableand unique sound, blending its classic rock influences with a fresh and modern sound.

Over the past five years, GLYDER has toured Europe with some of the finest names in rock, including THIN LIZZY, WISHBONE ASH, DIO, W.A.S.P., THUNDER, FISH, Y&T, MICHAEL SCHENKER, HAWKWIND, GOTTHARD, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT and THE ANSWER. In 2007 they played at Gods of Metal in Italy with MÖTLEY CRÜE and VELVET REVOLVER, Sweden Rock Festival in 2008 with DEF LEPPARD and WHITESNAKE, Raismes festival in France 2008 with SAXON and ULI JOHN ROTH and Hard Rock Hell 2 in Wales 2008 with THIN LIZZY. GLYDER played its first headline tour in Spain in 2008 and headlined to 10,000 rock fans in India in October 2008 proving that it can win over any audience in any live situation.

In August 2009 GLYDER opened for METALLICA in Marlay Park Dublin.

As always, JANE'S ADDICTION — singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins — keeps things interesting.

The exotic sounds on "End To The Lies" — the band's newly issued (April 7) free downloadable track from the band's upcoming first studio album in eight years on Capitol Records, "The Great Escape Artist" — are the unique contribution of the legendary The Master Musicians of Joujouka.

Hailing from the village of Jajouka near Ksar-el-Kebir in the Ahl Srif mountain range of the southern Rif Mountains in northern Morocco, they are Sufi trance musicians who use reed, pipe and percussion to create drones and complex rhythms unique to Joujouka. The musicians are known for their connections with the Beat Generation and THE ROLLING STONES founder Brian Jones, who recorded them in 1968 for an album that was released in 1971, "Brian Jones Presents The Pipes Of Pan at Joujouka".

"We wanted to add a sense of ancient ritual and some depth beyond normal instrumentation, getting off the typical path that rock bands use, etc," says Perry Farrell. "And we wanted the music to cast a spell on the 'lies.'"

For "The Great Escape Artist", JANE'S ADDICTION have been working in Los Angeles with producer Rich Costey (MUSE, FRANZ FERDINAND, INTERPOL), with TV ON THE RADIO's Dave Sitek on the team. Costey says that The Master Musicians of Joujouka's parts actually weren't recorded with the band or in a studio. "It was all recorded in the Master Musicians Madrassa (school house) which is out in the village of Joujouka near Morocco where they live. The drums were recorded in the kitchen and the rhiatas in the main room of the house."

Farrell adds: "Lots of sounds were recorded with them so you may hear more of them on the record. You'll have to wait and see."

On Thursday (April 7), JANE'S ADDICTION made an MP3 of "End To The Lies" available for free download via the band's web site, JanesAddiction.com. "To me, it sounds like an updated JANE'S ADDICTION as it has the hypnotic repetitive nature of some of our early work combined with a modern approach," guitarist Dave Navarro told Spinner. "This track was released as a taste of the record for our die-hard fans. I can't wait for everyone to hear our first single next month and then the album later in the summer."

An early, unfinished version of "End To The Lies" leaked on March 30 in Chile when Farrell made an appearance on the "La Ley D Rock" program on the Chilean radio station Radio Futuro, after which the song became an instant viral sensation.
Canadian musician/producer Devin Townsend (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, STEVE VAI, LAMB OF GOD, DARKEST HOUR, GWAR) will release "Deconstruction" and "Ghost" — the third and fourth in a series of albums to be made available under DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT moniker — on June 21 (one day earlier internationally) via InsideOut Music.

A detailed track-by-track review of "Ghost" is available at this location.

Devin previously described "Deconstruction" as "brutal in a lot of parts, but pretty glorious in others. It rides the fence of negativity but ultimately ends supremely positive."

Even though "Ghost" is the fourth album to be made available under DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT moniker, Devin recorded it third, because "Deconstruction" (the third album) was "a nightmare technically and I wanted to make something lovely before diving into that," Devin previously said.

According to Devin, "'Ghost' is the mellowest (by far) and prettiest record I've done so far" with a "very wonderful vibe."

Townsend has announced the first two special shows in U.K. for November 2011 for a unique DVD recording.

On his recent mostly sold-out European tour, Devin already performed some of the new material and if you have followed Devin through his career, you will know that he is always up for pushing the limits to higher levels. After releasing "Deconstruction" and "Ghost" in June, Devin Townsend will return to London U.K. in November 2011 to play a set of very special shows dedicated to his four-album concept and which will be captured live on DVD.

Former NIGHTWISH frontwoman Tarja Turunen will perform a duet with Jyrki 69 from THE 69 EYES during the "Idols Tekee Hyvää" live TV broadcast on the Finnish channel MTV3 on Easter Sunday, April 24. The proceeds of the event, which brings the popular American format "Idol Gives Back" to Finland for the first time, will be directed to education projects for children and teenagers in poverty-stricken countries such as Haiti and Cambodia.

Tarja's sophomore solo album, "What Lies Beneath", sold around 1,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 24 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"What Lies Beneath" was released in North America on September 14 via The End Records. The CD's first single, "Falling Awake" (featuring Jason Hook from FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH), was released August 17 as a limited-edition seven-inch single through The Omega Order and available August 24 at all digital outlets . The track is backed with "The Good Die Young" — a song from the SCORPIONS' most recent album that features Tarja's vocals.

THE 69 EYES's latest album, "Back In Blood", was issued in Europe (excluding Finland) on August 28, 2009 via Nuclear Blast Records (September 15, 2009 in the U.S. through The End Records). It was tracked with the Grammy-winning producer Matt Hyde (SLAYER, MONSTER MAGNET, FU MANCHU) and features a guest appearance by MONSTER MAGNET's Ed Mundell. The recording process took place both in Helsinki and Los Angeles.

The first single from the album, "Dead Girls Are Easy", was described in a press release as "a nasty power anthem for sleazy pin-ups complete with a sing-a-long chorus aimed at those online chicks with the looks that kill!" The video for the song was directed by Margera and the artwork was designed by Estevan Oriol, whose work has graced countless covers from such artists as CYPRESS HILL, THE TRANSPLANTS and SNOOP DOGG.

DJERV — the Norwegian band featuring singer Agnete Kjølsrud of ANIMAL ALPHA, drummer Erlend Gjerde of STONEGARD and WARDRUNA and guitarist Stian Kårstad of TRELLDOM — will release its debut album in June via Indie Recordings (except in Poland and Czech Republic, where the CD will be made available through Mystic Production). The first single, "Madman", is due on April 19.

DJERV consist of the three core members — Agnete Kjølsrud, Stian Kårstad and Erlend Gjerde. The lineup is completed by guitarist Stamos Koliousis from MENCEA and bassist Victor Brandt from ENTOMBED, who join them for their live performances.

DJERV spent most part of the fall of 2010 working on its debut album, which is set to be released in the summer of 2011. The album was engineered by Daniel Bergstrand (IN FLAMES, MESHUGGAH) in Oslo, before the band traveled to Los Angeles to team up with Grammy Award-winning producer Matt Hyde (SLAYER, HATEBREED, MONSTER MAGNET) to work on the mix. The effort was mastered by Tom Baker at Precision Mastering, and it was written and produced in its entirety by DJERV.

"Normally it takes me like 30 seconds to figure out how to mix an album, to decide what sound I'm going for, as the inspiration of the band is so obvious to spot out. But when listening to the DJERV album, I had no obvious direction on the mix as their music is truly unique. It's absolutely awesome and it's totally different from anything else I've heard in a long, long time. Working with a singer at Agnete's level is truly rewarding and something one very rarely get to do. Her control, range and performance is stunning — not to mention the great lyrics! She is definitely one of THE best singers I've had the pleasure working with, and I really hope I get to do it again."

Drummer Erlend Gjerde comments: "We tried to explore the borderlines between rock, metal and on some tracks there are more or less obvious black metal references. The overall sound is quite stripped down, groove-oriented and melodic, yet it has those cold black metal-influenced riffs accompanying the dark moods of the music . We are very happy with the way it turned out, now it's just the painful wait of hearing what everybody else thinks. Fingers crossed it go down well."

DJERV's story is short but eventful. The first demos surfaced early 2010, and two weeks later they were booked for the most important festival in Norway, the Oya festival. They went on to tour Norway in June and played several of the bigger Norwegian festivals during the summer. In August they released the "Headstone" EP which basically is their first-ever recorded demo tracks made available as people kept demanding to get to hear them not only on MySpace. The release of the "Headstone" EP generated some good press for the band several key magazines featured them as one of the bands to keep an eye out for in 2011. In addition, DIMMU BORGIR helped promote DJERV when they invited Agnete to participate on no less than three songs for their latest album, "Abrahadabra". Among them the lead track of the album, "Gateways", the video for which also features Agnete.

Finnish metallers GHOST BRIGADE have completed work on their third album, "Until Fear No Longer Defines Us", for a late summer release via Season Of Mist.

GHOST BRIGADE's sophomore CD, 2009's "Isolation Songs", entered the official chart in Finland at position No. 22.

The band's debut, "Guided by Fire", was released on September 17, 2007 via Season of Mist.

Regarding the band's musical direction, GHOST BRIGADE previously stated, "There are so many bands and artists that have influenced us throughout the years that I couldn't just pick a few and say we're a mixture of those. That wouldn't do the listener nor us any justice. We are influenced by anything that sounds good, be it older death metal, melancholic pop music or anything in between. So I guess we just collect little pieces along the way, put it all into a blender and the result is GHOST BRIGADE. To anyone who hasn't heard us, I'd say it's heavy, dynamic and metallic music filled with beautiful melodies and a fine dose of anxiety."
San Antonio's masters of blackened death/thrash HOD are gearing up for one hellaciously brutal summer with a series of live dates that will see the band join forces with MARDUK, AURA NOIR, BLACK ANVIL, PANZERFAUST and many more as they devastate parts of the U.S. and Canada with their relentless brand of extreme metal. All of this is coming in anticipation of the band's follow up to their critically-acclaimed debut, "Serpent", which Zero Tolerance called a "venomous explosion of black, death, and thrash metal fury" and Terrorizer called "non-commercialized, uncompromising and slightly unhinged death metal." The new material is expected to see the light of day in the coming months.

Commented HOD guitarist Carl "Lord Necron" Snyder: "The name of the new album has been chosen — 'Book Of The Worm'. We shall unleash this album sometime later this year.

"We have worked on the music for this album for quite some time.

"We hope to announce the producer soon for this album, we just need to nail the down who we want to mix it. Expect an announcement soon. Also we will be hitting the road this summer with MARDUK, AURA NOIR, BLACK ANVIL and PANZERFAUST. This is one brutal lineup. We will also play the Goregrowler's Ball this year; hitting the stage with SUFFOCATION, EXHUMED, ABORTED, GRAVEHILL, CARDIAC ARREST and many more.

"We have a busy end of the year ahead of us. So we hope to see the legions of metalheads out there this year.

"One last thing: coming up this Saturday, April 16, we will take the stage with legends EXHORDER and RIGOR MORTIS. We really look forward to sharing the stage with these guys. It's an overdose of metal! We hope to see all you Texas bastards out in Austin for this show. Who knows when a lineup like this will happen again?!"
Guitarist Kride Lahti has left the Finnish modern thrash/death-influenced metal band DEAD SHAPE FIGURE "due to personal reasons and lack of motivation." The remaining members of the group state, "There is no bad blood between him and the band and we like to thank Kride for the years he shared with DEAD SHAPE FIGURE."

DEAD SHAPE FIGURE has yet to announce a replacement guitarist.

The band will support KATAKLYSM on an East-European tour starting on May 18 in Rome, Italy. Also scheduled to appear on the bill are KARNAK and PESTIFER.

DEAD SHAPE FIGURE's second full-length album, "The Disease Of St. Vitus", was released last October via Dynamic Arts Records. The CD was mastered at Virtalähde Analog Audio Studios in Helsinki, Finland.

The "Face On The Nails" video can be viewed below. The clip was shot in April by director Jussi Parviainen who has over 30 years of experience in the Finnish film industry, according to a posting on the group's web site.

DEAD SHAPE FIGURE's debut album, "The Grand Karoshi", was released in 2008 via Season Of Mist. The CD's lyrical content was translated by Kallio into Finnish as a book of poetry, entitled "Loppusäkeet".
