My first real exposure to the Who came with the movie version of Tommy. I saw this thing in the theatre as a new release and was blown away by the event. Looking back at the movie it holds up fairly well, although it has its cheesy moments. I think the coolest part of it all is that back in the 70's the opportunity to see pop stars actually moving was rare, unless of course the tours came to your home town. Well, the Who weren't about to appear at the Civic Centre in Swift Current Sask back in 1975.

I got the soundtrack shortly afterwards and that lead to other records as a young guy could afford them. Odds n Sods, surprisingly was one of the next albums, and whereas it was billed as the 'leftovers', I quite liked it. Eventually got into the original Tommy, as well as Who's Next, By Numbers, etc. The cream of the entire Who crop is still Live at Leeds! More than once it has appeared as my favourite live album of all time.

For me:

The Who - I liked some of their stuff more than others. I always crank up Pinball Wizard when I hear it. Brings back great memories.

Alice Cooper - like you a sentimental favorite if mine. Probably much more talented than he is often given credit for.

Bob Dylan - He's the man. I have had my streaks where I would stop listening to him for a while ... but I always come back. I too like his new stuff.

Deep Purple - Would have liked to see these guys live just to hear Smoke on the Water. They have never been my favorite but always near the top ... and still are.

Neil Young - for many years I did not care for him but now I appreciate the talent and legend he is. He is what he is and in many ways reminds me of Dylan.

April Wine - Like Deep Purple they have never been my favorite but again always near the top. I appreciate them more now than

My favourite list is a fluid thing, that is ridiculously long. Here's a few
that I love and a brief description why.

The Who - Perennial favourite group from the 60's. I can like the Beatles,
Stones, Yardbirds, etc. But the horrible Who are a group that I can always
count on to give me a lift. Pete is perhaps my all time favourite guitar
player and his songwriting skills are exceptional. I'm never bored with the
Who. Extra points for live performance.

Alice Cooper - My senti'mental' favourite. Love the library from Pretties
For You, right up to Along Came a Spider. His songs are entertaining in
every aspect. Lyrically he's always fun, in a dark way. Musically he has
always been surrounded by excellent musicians. I love the original group to
death, and I love his next album, whenever that comes out.

Bob Dylan - Always liked him, and strange enough, I like his new stuff just
as much, perhaps more than the old stuff. Bob's a great songwriter, but it
wasn't until he started touring around here every few years that I came to
realize that he's a damn good guitar player as well....and no slouch on the
keyboards.

Deep Purple - Another go to group. I've been listening to them since 1973ish
and still add to the collection when the new records come out. The formula
is fluid with them regarding personnel, so what! Its all got a charm to it.

Neil Young - I lean to electric Neil, but its all entertaining. He doesn't
care what I think, and that's great, he just does what he wants.

April Wine - Childhood favourite, I'll always be able to put on Electric
Jewels and relive 1974. Fun group, Myles and Jim had voices that worked for
me, and the guitar work of Gary and Myles back then was perfect for what I
wanted. They evolved and ended up survivors, I like that.

That's a few, there's a pile more where they came from...
