[Classic_Rock_Forever] Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, tons of hard rock and heavy metal news

AOL's Noisecreep recently conducted an interview with legendary heavy metal bassist Geezer Butler (HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Noisecreep: The show [for HEAVEN & HELL's "Neon Nights" DVD] was filmed on July 30, 2009. How long after that did Ronnie [James Dio] become ill?

Geezer: He started really going downhill in September, towards the end of the U.S. part of the tour. The U.S. tour was supposed to have two parts. We did the first four weeks, then Tony [Iommi, guitar] had something happen to his hand and he had to have an operation immediately. So we had to postpone the second part of the tour so Tony could have his hand looked at. And Ronnie's stomach problems got worse and worse. He was going to do a DIO tour in Europe and he was rehearsing for that, but his stomach kept getting worse. Then he went to the doctor and the doctor didn't say anything about it at first. He just gave him some constipation medicine and said he was severely constipated. And then he went to a specialist and they told him it was stomach cancer.

Noisecreep: Had Ronnie been exhibiting signs of stomach cancer?

Geezer: He'd been having stomach aches, but everyone gets flu or food poisoning when you're on tour. You're in front of 10,000 people, and 2,000 might have the flu. There are all these germs around, so you always get something when you're on tour. And Ronnie was getting these stomach pains. One night he'd be alright and the next night he'd be doubled up in pain. The last week of the American tour he was in agony. I'll always remember he came out for the very last gig and we said, "Look, Ronnie, if you're that ill, we'll just blow the gig." And he said, "No, I'm not gonna blow the gig." And he was literally doubled up in pain. And he just made himself go on. He totally refused to cancel the show. So he went on and we thought, "Oh, God, what's gonna happen?" None of us ever thought cancer, we just thought it was a severe stomach bug. And then at this time last year, just after Halloween he went in and got the report it was cancer. It was just one of those
things you don't expect to happen.

Noisecreep: There have been reports about another BLACK SABBATH tour with Ozzy Osbourne. Is that going to happen in 2011?

Geezer: I have no idea what's happening with that. It's not going to happen next year. Ozzy's on tour with his own band for the next year or whatever. The idea of doing another SABBATH tour always comes up. It's just something that's always talked about and there if we want to do it. It's sort of really early days, though. I'm sure Ozzy will say yes and no every week for the next year while he's on tour. It's one thing to want to do something like that just before you go out to tour a record. You say, "Oh yeah, I'm gonna tour for the next five years." And then six weeks into it, you can't wait to get home. So we'll just see how he feels when he finishes his Ozzy Osbourne tour.

Noisecreep: Will there be any posthumous HEAVEN & HELL releases featuring Ronnie?

Geezer: No. There is no more stuff. That's it. We've never had leftover material ever. That's how we got back together when they wanted to put out [a greatest hits record of BLACK SABBATH's] Dio years. They wanted some extra tracks to put on it, and we didn't have any because whatever we do we put out. That's why we got together to do the three extra tracks on the compilation. And it went so well, we went from there and toured and did another album. We were having a great time. We never imagined that we wouldn't have the chance to do more.

BLACK SABBATH/HEAVEN & HELL's Tony Iommi is currently laying down guitar on a second track to raise money to rebuild a music school in Armenia. He says, "I'm really excited with what we have produced."

In an early 2010 interview, Iommi stated about his Armenian fundraising efforts, "We did an album more than 20 years ago to raise money for the 1988 earthquake appeal and a few months ago we visited the country to receive an Award of Honor from the President and to see how the money had been spent.

"We went to one music school where the kids had got no instruments to speak of and the buildings were damp and horrible so we said we'd do another record for them and maybe a couple of gigs there to raise more money for the school."

Tony also donated some instruments and Ian Gillan, the vocalist of DEEP PURPLE, performed solo shows with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra in Yerevan which were recorded for a DVD.

In October, Iommi and Gillan headed back into the studio, joined by keyboardist Jon Lord (DEEP PURPLE, WHITESNAKE) and drummer Nicko McBrain (IRON MAIDEN) to record a new track, "Out Of My Mind", to raise money to rebuild a music school in Armenia.

Iommi recently revealed to U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine that he has begun work on new material with the hopes of launching the "next phase" of his career alongside longtime SABBATH and HEAVEN & HELL bandmate/bassist Geezer Butler. He said, "What I'm doing now is writing. I've gone mad, writing loads of riffs again. I'm really enjoying it, putting stuff together. We will be doing something. I'm in touch with Geezer a lot now and we've been talking about what the next phase is going to be. It'll be great to get out and do something again. I don't normally say this, but there's some great ideas coming out. That's all I've got to do right now. Sit and write riffs!"

Surviving HEAVEN & HELL members Iommi, Butler and Vinny Appice played a very special tribute to their fallen bandmate, Ronnie James Dio, on July 24 at the High Voltage festival at Victoria Park in London, England. The musicians were joined by legendary former DEEP PURPLE and BLACK SABBATH man Glenn Hughes and Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande, who sings for power metallers MASTERPLAN and recently released his own tribute to Ronnie.

Wendy Dio, the wife/manager of Ronnie James Dio, has told VH1 Radio that she encourages the surviving members of HEAVEN & HELL to work together again under a different moniker.

"I don't know what they're doing right now," she said. "I know that Geezer's been asked several times, and he's just ... he took it very hard. I don't really know what they're doing right now. They should do something else, with Vinny, too. I mean, the band was amazing, an amazing band and they should carry on to do something. It won't be called HEAVEN & HELL but whatever they call it, it will be great, it will be amazing."

The inductees into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2011 will be announced on December 15 at 10:30 a.m. EST on the RockHall.com web site.

The list of nominees for this go-round includes legendary rocker ALICE COOPER, BON JOVI, BEASTIE BOYS, CHIC, Neil Diamond, Donovan, Dr. John, J GEILS BAND, LL Cool J, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, Tom Waits and Chuck Willis.

Cooper released the following statement in response to the announcement that he is among 15 artists who were nominated for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2011:

"On behalf of Dennis (Dunaway), Neal (Smith), Michael (Bruce) and the late great Glen (Buxton), we are honored to be nominated for induction in to the Hall. Anytime you are nominated in your chosen profession, it's definitely a compliment to be recognized.

"It's hard to fathom possibly being in the same club as artists who inspired us originally, like THE BEATLES, THE [ROLLING] STONES, THE BEACH BOYS, THE WHO, THE YARDBIRDS, and Chuck Berry, and to be nominated the same year as legendary artists like my personal favorite songwriter of all time, Laura Nyro, as well as Donovan, who sang on our 'Billion Dollar Babies' record, and our good friends in Bon Jovi, is a great feeling.
"Five guys starting a band, just hoping to meet girls and drink free beer, rehearsing and playing local bars five hours a night for the first few years — that was us. We came up with the theatrics and made every effort not to sacrifice the music one bit; we thought it was like our job to bring theatrics to rock 'n' roll. And then, amazingly enough, we were having a bunch of massive hit records which was proof that theatricality and rock 'n' roll could, in fact, be joined successfully. We've been told that we revolutionized the live concert experience and if that's truly the case and it's led to this nomination for induction into the Hall of Fame, the only thing to say is, of course, 'There's no business like show business!'"

The 26th annual induction ceremony will be held on March 14, 2011 at the Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan.

To be eligible for nomination into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, an act must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. This year's nominees had to release their first single no later than 1985.

Ballots were sent to more than 500 voters, who selected the artists to be inducted at the induction ceremony, which will be televised live on Fuse.

Michael Leader of Den Of Geek! recently conducted an interview with Greg Olliver and Wes Orshoski — directors/producers of "Lemmy", the long-awaited documentary examining the life and career of MOTÖRHEAD frontman and rock icon Lemmy Kilmister. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Den Of Geek!: You've both been involved in the music scene for a long time, as directors and writers. So, how did the Lemmy project come about?

Wes Orshoski: Greg and I were working on another film, and we found ourselves in Dublin, Ireland, and we were working so well together, and we decided "Okay, let's go to this pub across the street and come up with ideas." And the first idea that popped into my head was Lemmy, because I'd just interviewed him for Billboard magazine in the U.S., and that interview was about the group HEAD CAT, his side project. And I just kept thinking about it. I kept listening to the record over and over. Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash covers. Man! Lemmy's such an interesting guy, and he's a badass. He's the ultimate rock and roll badass. There's so many other sides to him. So, I said, "Greg, I know who we should do a movie on." That was the only idea we came up with and we just drank for the rest of the night.

Greg Olliver: And when you have a few drinks, you get more courage, and you think things could happen, and we were really lucky that it actually happened. We could have a hundred more ideas, and a hundred of them won't happen. So, we were really lucky that it fell together instead of apart.

Den Of Geek!: How did you go about organizing it, and getting Lemmy on board?

Greg Olliver: There was a lot of phonecalls and emails, and showing my work and our work to management, to get them to see that we were decent filmmakers. And basically we auditioned for Lemmy as human beings. So, we went and met him at the Rainbow, in Hollywood, and it was supposed to be like a business meeting. And it was like two minutes of us telling him what we wanted to do and a couple of hours of getting drunk with Lemmy at the Rainbow. And his manager was like, "He really liked you guys. That was the longest he's ever sat down at a business meeting!" And so, we're like, well, if this is business with Lemmy, then we're excited.

Wes Orshoski: This is the business we want to be in!

Den Of Geek!: So, how did it develop from there? How long were you filming him and following him around?

Greg Olliver: We didn't plan it, man. We didn't have an agenda. We just told him we wanted to make an honest portrait of him. So, we didn't know what we were going to film. We just knew we had to spend time with him. And we started thinking in our heads it might take a year, but it took three and a half years to get everything, so all three of us were happy with what we got, and we knew we were done with the film.

Wes Orshoski: It was funny, because it was just a couple of months before we finished the cut of the film for SXSW, where we world premiered it, Greg and I didn't feel we had enough. We didn't really feel like we had everything. And then we started to edit everything together, and we were like, "Fuck, man! We have a lot of stuff. Dude, we have a movie!" We just needed to get the ending.

ICED EARTH and SONS OF LIBERTY founder Jon Schaffer will guest on this Friday's (December 10) edition of "Freedom Watch with Judge Andrew Napolitano", which airs on the Fox Business network. The interview tapes at noon and airs between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Eastern Time that same day.

"I have a great deal of respect for Judge Napolitano," said Schaffer. "His books are eye-opening reads. He absolutely gets what's going on."

The themes of "Brush-Fires of the Mind", the album released by Schaffer's SONS OF LIBERTY solo project, will be the topic of discussion on Napolitano's show, which addresses the loss of liberty and blatant violations of the U.S. Constitution by America's own government.

Andrew Napolitano is a former New Jersey Superior Court judge, and a political and legal analyst for Fox News channel. Judge Napolitano has written three books: "Constitutional Chaos: What Happens When the Government Breaks Its Own Laws"; a New York Times bestseller, "The Constitution in Exile: How the Federal Government Has Seized Power by Rewriting the Supreme Law of the Land"; and "A Nation of Sheep".

The first edition of Graspop Metal Meeting took place way back in 1986 as a local pop festival with mainly local acts. Two decades later, Graspop has evolved from a small-scale family affair to a major and internationally acclaimed metal event.

While driving throughout the winter, watch out for black ice! It's advice ROSS THE BOSS vocalist Patrick Fuchs wishes he had heeded as he drove on the Autobahn after departing a Kaiser Slautern, Germany recording studio on Wednesday morning. Neither speeding, nor under the influence, Fuchs hit a patch of ice on a sharp turn and lost control of his car, flipping it over and totaling it. When first viewing photos of the horrific wreck at, Fuchs bandmates breathed a deep sigh of relief, realizing their singer could have, should have, been in worse shape, or even dead.

Fuchs remains hospitalized in serious condition with broken ribs and a punctured spleen, but hopes to be released soon.

The band has been celebrating the success of its recently released second effort, "Hailstorm", which includes the now ironically titled "Dead Man's Curve".

Fuchs will be fully healed and ready to get back into action when the band begins its spring and summer European festival tour.

For updates regarding Fuchs' condition, soon-to-be-announced tour dates and other band-related news, check out the band's brand-spanking-new web site.

Florida metallers TRIVIUM will take part in a live online chat on December 11 via Ustream. The band will answer your questions live wherever you are, so be there this Saturday at 2 p.m. EST.

TRIVIUM will enter Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida on January 2 with the production/mixing team of Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, SLIPKNOT, FEAR FACTORY) and Martin "Ginge" Ford to begin recording its new album for an early 2011 release via Roadrunner Records.

In a July 18, 2010 interview with the WMHB 89.7 FM metal radio show "Metal Mutilation", TRIVIUM guitarist Corey Beaulieu stated about the band's new material, "We've been concentrating more on [making] more to-the-point, catchier songs without going off too much — there's no seven- or eight-minute songs on this one. There's a lot of really cool riffs and a lot of really cool parts, and, obviously, there's guitar solos all over the place. It doesn't sound like 'Shogun', but it sounds like TRIVIUM. It's a got a different feel than 'Shogun' — it's a lot more in your face and heavier and faster. It kind of balances out everything — we've got four or five songs that are all screaming, we've got a couple of songs that are all singing, and huge songs that are kind of a mix — kind of 'Acendancy' [2005] kind of vocal style, [with both] screaming and singing, so there's a good variety, which makes it really interesting to listen to, because each song has
its own thing going on, so they all stand out really well and fit together, too. It's got a good balance of everything, but the energy and the intensity is just a lot more up there. I guess if you compare it to anything as far as being aggressive, it's probably more towards 'Ascendancy' than anything else."

On Monday, December 6, LIFE OF AGONY was invited by MTV2 for an exclusive in-studio performance and interview for "Headbangers Ball"'s "The Year In Metal". The band played the classics "Underground" and "Through And Through" and one of these performances will air on "Headbangers Ball" on MTV2 on Saturday, December 18 at midnight.

LIFE OF AGONY and BIOHAZARD will team up for a co-headlining show on December 16 at the Best Buy Theater (formerly Nokia Theater) in New York City. Support at the gig will come from VISION OF DISORDER (V.O.D.).

On April 3, 2010, I Scream Records recorded and filmed LIFE OF AGONY's performance at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, Belgium, the second show of the band's exclusive European "20 Years Strong" tour. The "20 Years Strong - River Runs Red: Live In Brussels" live album — which is a digipak combo release containing a CD of the entire concert as well as a DVD with a 10-camera production of the show, an on-the-road documentary and much more — was released on July 19 in Europe and July 27 in the USA.

LIFE OF AGONY has played sporadic shows over the course of the last four years after completing its successful touring cycle for the 2005 Epic Records release, "Broken Valley".

Swedish metallers THE HAUNTED will embark on a mini-tour of Finland in March 2011. The details are as follows:

March 22 - Klubi, Tampere, FIN

Support on the trek will come from MYGRAIN.

German thrash metal veterans SODOM have announced the addition of drummer Markus "Makka" Freiwald to the group's ranks.

Freiwald previously played for the German bands DESPAIR and FLAMING ANGER and was involved with the VOODOOCULT project. In addition, he played percussion as a session musician on the MOONSPELL album "Irreligious" and is featured on the 1996 LP "Triarchy Of The Lost Lovers" by Greek extreme metallers ROTTING CHRIST.

A photo of SODOM's new lineup can be found below.

SODOM last month parted ways with drummer Bobby Schottkowski due to "personal and private problems between Tom [bassist/vocalist Thomas 'Angelripper' Such] and Bobby," according to a statement released by the band.

SODOM's new album, "In War And Pieces", entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 64. The CD will be released in North America on January 11, 2011 via SPV/Steamhammer.

"In War And Pieces" track listing:

01. In War And Pieces
02. Hellfire
03. Through Toxic Veins
04. Nothing Counts More Than Blood
05. Storm Raging Up
06. Feigned Death Throes
07. Soul Contraband
08. God Bless You
09. The Art Of Killing Poetry
10. Knarrenheinz
11. Styptic Parasite

The "In War And Pieces" track is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page.

For Thomas "Angelripper" Such, his thrash metal band SODOM is a perfect vehicle to bluntly take a stand. Like few other musicians on this scene, he personifies — along with down-to-earthiness and honesty — a healthily critical position on political authorities and decision-makers from finance and industry. On their latest album, "In War And Pieces", SODOM focuses on the worst excesses of power: arrogance, greed, spotlight-seeking, fanaticism, corruption, cowardice and oppression. Tom strates, "I've always written about what's going on in the world, about the injustice and mistakes that happen everywhere. I know that you can't change anything politically that way, but I would like to at least comment on the situation and generate an awareness of this deplorable state of affairs. Being a singer in a metal band allows me to voice my anger to a large audience."

This uncompromising attitude marks the eleven songs on sodom's latest album which could hardly sound more dynamic and violent. "In War And Pieces" owes its bloodcurdling energy largely to producer Waldemar Sorychta (GRIP INC., ENEMY OF THE SUN), whose great skill and commitment were instrumental in creating the album's — as Tom calls it — "phat, brutal and open" sound. With Sorychta's support, Angelripper (vocals, bass), Bernemann and Bobby Schottkowski succeeded in adding new impulses to their music without watering down the band's long tradition. "Waldemar is a great musician himself and has done some brilliant work, especially on the guitar sound," Tom explains. "He knows how to get the absolute maximum out of a speaker."

As brutal as the production is the diverse songwriting on "In War And Pieces", a kind of tour de force through the whole history of thrash metal, featuring harsh arrangements, melodic solos and raging vocal attacks. "I feel that we sound more contemporary and structured than we did on our recent releases," Tom analyzes. "At the same time, there are also references to recordings such as 'Persecution Mania' and 'Agent Orange'. After VENOM, SODOM were the world's first angry band, and nothing has changed that." Tom lists as examples the impressive title track, as well as "The Art Of Killing Poetry" with its ultra-deep guitar atmospheres and the German-language song, 'Knarrenheinz', which holds up the tradition of classics such as 'Bombenhagel' and "Ausgebombt". "Knarrenheinz is the mascot on the album cover, that's why I felt he deserved his own lyrics," Tom grins. Talking of album covers: the artwork was designed by Eliran Kantor, who enjoys an excellent
reputation on the scene thanks to his work for renowned acts such as TESTAMENT, GWAR and MEKONG DELTA.

SODOM and STIER have been confirmed for next year's edition of the Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place August 4-6, 2011 in the small town of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany.

OZZY OSBOURNE

Wacken Open Air was first held in 1990 as a small event for local German bands. By 1998 the event had become the major festival on the European metal calendar and has included over 70 bands from all over Europe, North America and Australia.

Wacken Open Air is usually held at the beginning of August and lasts three days, during which the festival-goers camp on several large camping grounds surrounding the actual festival area. The 70 or more bands perform across four separate stages over the course of the event.

The 2009 edition of Wacken Open Air set a sales record; it sold out on December 30, 2008. All 70,000 tickets were sold over 200 days before the start of the festival.

Wacken Open Air, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, was honored with a Live Entertainment Award in 2008 in the "Festival Of The Year" category. This award recognizes distinguished achievements in live entertainment and is given out by Live Entertainment Award (LEA) committee.

THE HAUNTED will perform at the "P3 Guld" (Swedish radio's annual music awards) live awards ceremony broadcast on January 22, 2011 from Lisebergshallen in Gothenburg, Sweden.

THE HAUNTED entered Antfarm Studio in Århus, Denmark on October 18 with the band's longtime producer Tue Madsen (MOONSPELL, DARK TRANQUILLITY, GOREFEST, SICK OF IT ALL) to begin recording its seventh full-length album for an early 2011 release via Century Media Records.

The reunited original lineup of one of the most influential hardcore punk/metal bands, BIOHAZARD, has inked a deal with Nuclear Blast Records for the world outside North America. The group's tenth studio album is scheduled for an early 2011 release. The follow-up to 2005's "Means To An End" is being produced by Toby Wright, who has previously worked with KORN, SLAYER, MÖTLEY CRÜE, KISS, FEAR FACTORY, IN FLAMES, STONE SOUR and OZZY OSBOURNE, among others. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Decay", "Screaming For Change" and "Vengeance Is Mine", the latter of which the band debuted during its 2009 European tour (see video below).

BIOHAZARD's new album marks the first time the four original members — Evan Seinfeld (vocals, bass), Billy Graziadei (guitar, vocals), Danny Schuler (drums) and Bobby Hambel (guitar) — have recorded together since 1994's breakthrough CD "State Of The World Address".

Comments Nuclear Blast A&R representative Jaap Wagemaker: "We at Nuclear Blast have been longtime fans since we first saw BIOHAZARD on tour with WARGASM and at the legendary Dynamo Open Air where they played no less than four times! Judging by the sheer power, enthusiasm and pleasure that I have seen them unleash live by playing their classics, the new album promises nothing less than another milestone in their career."

States Schuler: "Finally, we are in the studio recording our first record together with the original lineup since 1994! 16 years! Feels like a lifetime since we last did this together, and the experience has been amazing. We've recorded over an hour of music, and we are extremely excited and grateful to be able to share it all with you." Seinfeld says the new album will contain "bone-crushing riffs fused with dark melodies and uncompromising lyrics rapped at you like Only BIOHAZARD can deliver… the danger is back." Wright adds, "This is the BEST hardcore band in the world, and this is going to be a kick-ass record that proves that is a fact."

In a recent interview with AOL's Noisecreep, Seinfeld stated about BIOHAZARD's new material, "The music is the best we've ever written. I'm nervous, because it's almost too good."

According to Seinfeld, BIOHAZARD's forthcoming album is more "introspective" than the band's previous efforts. "We're hardened guys who seen a lot and have been growing toward self-actualization," Seinfeld told Noisecreep. "The song 'Decay' is about the environment. We will always address politics, inner struggles and dysfunction. And while this is not a brand new subject, it's still a new look."

In an interview with Gun Shy Assassin, Seinfeld described the new BIOHAZARD material as "big, nasty, metal and hardcore" with "melody and hooks, which we've never had before," and promised that the new stuff was heavy, with "moments that feel like 'Urban Discipline' [1991] or 'State of the World Address' [1994]." He said it was "pissed off and thrashy and there are a lot of those intense old-school moments."

BIOHAZARD last year finished a 22-month reunion world tour where the band played 100-plus shows on five continents.

Upcoming BIOHAZARD shows:

Dec. 16 - Best Buy Theater, New York, NY (w/ LIFE OF AGONY)
Mar. 18 - Colchester Arts Centre, Essex, UK
Mar. 19 - Hammerfest, Prestatyn Sands, UK
Mar. 20 - Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth, UK
Mar. 21 - W2, Den Bosch, Holland

Reactivated late '80s/early '90s technical-thrash metallers BELIEVER have finished recording their new album for an early 2011 release via Metal Blade Records. The CD was produced by Trauma Team Productions and will be mixed by Kevin Gutierrez (RAVEN, PROJECT: FAILING FLESH, DECEASED, DYSRYTHMIA, GARDEN OF SHADOWS) at Assembly Line Studios. The band is once again pursuing new musical territory.

Commented guitarist/vocalist Kurt Bachman: "We decided to bring back some of the orchestral feel of 'Dimensions' by utilizing more layered guitars, keys and melody with different vocal arrangements. There is still the 'BELIEVER' sound, but the musical progression continues for us."

Added keyboardist/programmer Jeff King: "We revamped our writing and recording process so that everyone could work at their peak times. We also spent a lot of time finding the right combinations of gear to achieve the sounds we wanted.

"Each BELIEVER album has had its own sound that distinguishes it from the preceding album, and this project is no different in that respect. You still have the core elements that make it recognizable as BELIEVER, but the guitar tone is heavier, the songs are tighter and musically it seems more refined."

BELIEVER performed live for the first time in 16 years on September 25, 2009 at Sterling Hotel in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The band's fourth album, "Gabriel", was released in March 2009 through KILLSWITCH ENGAGE frontman Howard Jones's new imprint label Cesspool Records via Metal Blade. The CD featured guest appearances by Jones, Joe Rico (SACRIFICE), CKY/WORLD UNDER BLOOD guitarist/vocalist Deron Miller and Rocky Gray (EVANESCENCE, SOUL EMBRACED, LIVING SACRIFICE).

AMARANTHE (formerly AVALANCHE) — the new project featuring Olof Mörck (NIGHTRAGE, DRAGONLAND), Jake E (ex-DREAM EVIL, DREAMLAND), Andy Solveström (WITHIN Y, EVILDOER, CIPHER SYSTEM), Morten Lowe Sorensen (THE ARCANE ORDER, SUBMISSION) and Johan Andreassen (ex-ENGEL) — has completed work on its as-yet-untitled debut album at Hansen Studio in Ribe, Denmark with producer Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, MERCENARY, NIGHTRAGE) for a spring 2011 release via Spinefarm Records.

Commented guitarist Olof Mörck: "After two long months in Danish exile away from our homes in Sweden, we have now reached that magical milestone where we can consider this album finished! It means no rest for us, however, with videos to be recorded and all that stuff, plus, more importantly, [plans to] kick off the new year with a headline show in Gothenburg, on to Tunisia and Belgium later [in 2011] — plus another 18 shows in 13 countries to be announced soon! Don't miss AMARANTHE when we come to YOUR town in 2011!"

AMARANTHE vocalist Elize Ryd was selected to fill the female singer spot on KAMELOT's last European tour.

Mörck previously stated about the band: "AMARANTHE has for long been an idea between me and Jake E to break out of the mold of our past projects and create something new and fresh entirely and to give room for ideas not appropriate for the other acts and projects we are part of. The result is an onslaught of soaring melodies, heavy riffing and guttural screams from the netherworld, a result of having three singers in the band; Jake E on clean vocals, cabaret virtuoso Elize on female vocals and Andy on screams. The result is a quite distinct sound, especially combined with the music itself that draws upon influences from a varied spectrum of genres, all to create a thrilling experience for the listener. Another defining feature of AMARANTHE is the idea of a collective — everyone from superstars of the industry to just generally talented people will lend their unique skills to AMARANTHE on the coming album. This, however, won't stop AMARANTHE from being
a tour de force in live shows and tours, since the core of this metal machinery is based primarily on the regular members."

AMARANTHE is:

* Olof Mörck (NIGHTRAGE, DRAGONLAND) - Guitar, Keyboards
* Jake E (ex-DREAM EVIL, DREAMLAND) - Clean Vocals
* Andy Solveström (WITHIN Y, EVILDOER, CIPHER SYSTEM) - Screams
* Morten Lowe Sorensen (THE ARCANE ORDER, SUBMISSION) - Drums
* Johan Andreassen (ex-ENGEL) - Bass
* Elize Ryd - Female Vocals

British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH have been forced to cancel the first show of their South American tour, which was due to take place this coming Friday night, December 10 at Estadio Chaupicruz in Quito, Ecuador.

Commented CRADLE OF FILTH vocalist Dani "Filth" Davey: "Everyone involved with the band, and especially the band themselves are deeply distressed over the cancellation of our show in Ecuador this Friday. This is the second time we have had to pull out of a concert in Ecuador (the last cancellation being due to airport closure as we were circling the runway!).

"Unfortunately, this time has been due to several reasons, including severe weather conditions stranding half the band's crew, deep 'contractual' problems, plus flight-booking fuck-ups. It is a regrettable situation to be in, but unfortunately an impossible one at this particular time to rectify.

"Our sincere apologies go out to all the fans we have disappointed by this very-well-thought-out decision, the band feeling even worse about it as we are all stuck in cold, redundant limbo for two days.

"As for the rest of our South American tour, all other shows are definitely on, the first being on the twelfth at the Teatro Metropol, in Bogotá, Colombia, this very Sunday. We can't wait, though once again, I'd like to apologize to all our loyal, disappointed fans in Ecuador. We are so pissed off that this has had to happen."

Fans who had bought tickets for the gig should contact the promoter to receive a refund.

CRADLE OF FILTH will return to the studio later this month to resume work on its next project, an orchestral album titled "Midnight In The Labyrinth", which, according to vocalist Dani "Filth" Davey, will "reinvent" tracks from the band's first four albums and include "full soundtrack-quality stuff... with choirs, strings and some narration." Filth writes in his online update, "All songs will be fully orchestrated akin to a horror movie soundtrack (think Danny Elfman, John Williams, Christopher Young, etc.) and are comprised solely of tracks from our first four releases" — 1996 EP "Vempire Or Dark Faerytales In Phallustein", 1994's "The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh", 1996's "Dusk... And Her Embrace" and 1998's "Cruelty And The Beast" — "'Funeral In Carpathia' being my favorite conversion thus far."

CRADLE OF FILTH will embark on its first North American tour since 2009, a headlining run dubbed "FEARnet and Decibel Presents: Creatures From The Black Abyss Tour", in February 2011. Support on the trek will come from NACHTMYSTIUM, TURISAS and DANIEL LIONEYE.

CRADLE OF FILTH's new album, "Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa" sold 5,800 copies in its first week of release to debut at position No. 99 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's previous CD, "Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder", opened with a little over 11,000 copies back in November 2008 to debut at position No. 48 on The Billboard 200 chart. This was slightly less than the first-week tally registered by 2006's "Thornography", which shifted nearly 13,000 copies the first week out to enter The Billboard chart at No. 66, and "Nymphetamine", which premiered with almost 14,000 copies back in October 2004.

MY RUIN— the Los Angeles-based band featuring the husband-and-wife rock duo of vocalist Tairrie B. Murphy and multi-instrumentalist Mick Murphy — has recruited bassist Luciano Ferrea (BEGGARS BALL) and drummer Matt LeChevalier as the rhythm section for the group's upcoming U.K. tour.

Commented Tairrie: "We met Luciano back in 2007 when his band played Mick's birthday show at the now-defunct Safari Sam's in Hollywood with us.

"Great bass players are hard to find, and when we began our search for a new rhythm section there was only one who came to both our minds at the same time, and strangely enough, it was Luciano. We both remembered how he rocked and as fate would have it, everything magically seemed to work out the way we had hoped it would.

"Luciano is originally from Argentina but these days he resides in the City of Angels and over the past few months we've been getting to know him and what a great guy he is. He's also a killer bass player and we can't wait to introduce him to everyone!"

Regarding LeChevalier's addition to MY RUIN, Tairrie said, "LeChevalier recorded our 2008 album 'Throat Full of Heart' with us and is the drummer in our 'Ready For Blood' video. Matt also toured the U.K. with MY RUIN twice in 2006 for our 'Brutal Language' and 'Summer of Hell' tours and has played many one-off shows with us between 2005 and 2008 before he sadly had to leave our band and go back to France due to visa issues.

"We've always considered Matt a part of our extended family, keeping our fingers crossed he would be back with us some day in the future. When he was away, we stayed in touch and stayed friends while he spent some time touring with the French bands ETHS and also HEADCHARGER [who will be supporting us on our next tour]. Now we are happy to say that he will be joining us on stage once again in March and into our next chapter."

Behind-the-scenes footage from the making of "Ghosts And Good Stories", the sixth album from MY RUIN, can be viewed in two parts below.

"Ghosts And Good Stories" boasts 13 tracks written and played entirely by Murphy on guitar, bass and drums.

"Ghosts And Good Stories" track listing:

01. Diggin' For Ghosts
02. Long Dark Night
03. Excommunicated
04. Eyes Black
05. Money Shot
06. Abusing The Muse
07. La Cuidad
08. Suicide Tuesday
09. Saviourself
10. Malediction
11. Repose
12. Turned Out
13. Death Knell

When asked about the theme of the new album in an interview with Devolution magazine, Tairrie said, "I would say that 'Ghosts and Good Stories' is definitely a concept album and one which is quite reflective and apocalyptic on many levels. It didn't necessarily start off that way but it eventually began to write itself into a bit of an intimate portrait of our life as a band in and around the city of Los Angeles.

"Over the years religious imagery has played a huge part in my lyrical content and I have often left things open to interpretation but with this record it has gone from being more of a cryptically metaphorical aesthetic to highly confrontational in some instances."

AMORPHIS's "Magic & Mayhem" tour kicks off tonight (Wednesday, December 8) at Helsinki, Finland's legendary Tavastia club. Each show will feature special appearances by several former members of the band, including Pekka Kasari, Pasi Koskinen, Olli-Pekka Laine, Kasper Mårtenson, Kim Rantala and Ville Tuomi.

Click here for a detailed list of special guests at each gig.

Commented AMORPHIS guitarist Esa Holopainen: "It goes without saying that the 'Magic & Mayhem' tour will bring many nostalgic moments, as former AMORPHIS members from throughout the years will be our guests on stage.

"The tour concludes a fantastic year, during which we have celebrated the 20-year career of AMORPHIS in more than one way.

"After New Year's, we will continue the production of our next album, which we expect to see the light of day in May 2011. Pekka Kainulainen has again written beautiful lyrics, and the new album will be centered around the leading figure of Finnish mythology. Musically, it will again be intense with powerful emotion."

Video footage of AMORPHIS performing on November 23, 2010 in Munich, Germany can be viewed below.

On September 17, AMORPHIS celebrated its 20th anniversary by releasing a special retrospective, "Magic & Mayhem – Tales From The Early Years", featuring newly re-recorded versions of the songs from the band's first three albums (1992's "Karelian Isthmus", 1994's "Tales From The Thousand Lakes" and 1996's "Elegy") with slightly different arrangements, better audio quality and featuring the band's current lineup. AMORPHIS guitarist Esa Holopainen told Petri Silas of Finland's Soundi magazine in early June that he was especially happy with how "My Kantele" and "Song Of The Troubled One" turned out. The collection also includes such gems as "Vulgar Necrolatry" and the band's cover of THE DOORS' "Light My Fire". The latter song was previously recorded by the band and was included on the reissue of the "Tales from the Thousand Lakes" LP, but the new collection features an all-new version that was tracked in early 2010.

"Skyforger", the latest album from AMORPHIS, was certified gold in Finland for sales in excess of 15,000 copies. (Note: The sales requirement for albums to reach gold status in Finland was recently lowered to 10,000, but because "Skyforger" was released before this change took effect, the old rules still apply.) The bandmembers were presented with their gold plaques on July 6 at a release party for their first-ever live DVD, "Forging The Land Of Thousand Lakes", at Cinema Andorra in Helsinki.

"Skyforger" was honored in the "Metal Album Of The Year" category at this year's Emma Gaala (Finnish Grammy equivalent).

AMORPHIS was nominated in two categories at the Emma Gaala — "Metal Album Of The Year" and "Domestic Artist Of The Year".

Swedish death metallers INSISION have inked a deal with the U.S. label Sevared Records. The band's new EP was recorded at Off Beat Studio in Stockholm with engineer Anders Eriksson and is scheduled for release in early 2011. The group states, "It has been brutal and fun working with this new material and we're all excited about the release. We felt a need to get it out there while writing our next full-length album, mainly for the fans supporting us down the years as it has been just too fucking long since our last release. But now finally, we're here. This time it's going to be a five-track release, giving you four completely new killer tracks, the fifth bonus track being a remake of a song from our early days. It's just a brutal beating, a package delivering brutal and aggressive death metal, the INSISION way, of course!! This one will break your necks for sure!!"

Commented Sevared Records in a statement: "Sevared Records is very honored to sign the mighty INSISION!! I personally have been a huge fan of this incredible band since the first mini-CD. I'm extremely excited to release the new mini-CD and the following full-length CD, I know these brutal death metal veterans will crush every fan of brutal death metal skulls in!! And finally get the recognition of brutality they deserve!!"

Swedish technical death metallers SPAWN OF POSSESSION have issued the following update:

"We regret to inform you that we have released Richard Schill of his drumming duties in SPAWN OF POSSESSION. Reason being is that Richard depends very much on actual band practice and with SPAWN OF POSSESSION members being scattered all over Sweden, Norway and Germany, band practice becomes an impossibility. This decision is in no way a reflection on Richard's skills as a drummer or his personality as he will always remain part of the SPAWN OF POSSESSION family. We wish him all the best with his ongoing and future endeavors in music. To fill the gap after Richard, we have recruited Henrik Schönström [UNMOORED, TORCHBEARER] to take over the percussive side of the band. Right now Henrik is preparing for the recording of the next album and we welcome him to the camp."

SPAWN OF POSSESSION recently parted ways with vocalist Matthew Chalk (PSYCROPTIC) and was rejoined by Dennis Röndum.

SPAWN OF POSSESSION's current lineup:

* Dennis Röndum - Vocals
* Erlend Caspersen (VILE, BLOOD RED THRONE, DECREPIT BIRTH) - Bass
* Henrik Schönström - Drums
* Christian Münzner (OBSCURA, NECROPHAGIST) - Guitar
* Jonas Bryssling - Guitar

SPAWN OF POSSESSION's sophomore album, "Noctambulant", was released in 2006 via Neurotic Records. The CD was recorded at Pama Studios in Kristianopel, Sweden with producer Magnus Sedenberg.

SPAWN OF POSSESSION is in the process of signing a new record deal, the details of which will be announced soon.
