Buffalo Springfield Book Reunion Gig
Wednesday September 15, 2010 By Dave White, Classic Rock Guide
Between 1966 and 1968, Buffalo Springfield launched a number of stellar careers. Stephen Stills and Neil Young were reunited as part of Crosby Still Nash & Young. Jim Messina became half of Loggins & Messina after co-founding Poco with another Buffalo Springfield alum, Richie Furay.
For the first time since 1968, surviving members Stills, Young, Messina and Furay will perform together, at Young's annual Bridge School Benefit in October. (Bassist Bruce Palmer died in 2004, drummer Dewey Martin in 2009.)
During their short and stormy existence, the band released three albums and earned a reputation for the high quality of the musicians, and for the personality clashes and tension between them. "Our lives have gone in different directions and I wouldn't say that we're close friends," Furay tells Rolling Stone, "but we're friends and it's an opportunity for us to get together again for a good cause. I'm very excited."
CSN drummer, Joe Vitale and Young's bassist, Rick Rosas will sit in for Martin and Palmer.
