According to a posting on the BLACK SABBATH fan site Black-Sabbath.com, expanded reissues of SABBATH's "Seventh Star" (1986) and "Eternal Idol" (1987) albums — which featured Glenn Hughes (ex-DEEP PURPLE) and Tony Martin, respectively, on vocals — will be made available in the U.K. on October 25 via Sanctuary/Universal.

After just a handful of dates on the 1986 "Seventh Star" tour, Hughes was let go, and singer Ray Gillen was brought on board. Gillen finished the tour, and work began on the next SABBATH album, and it was mostly completed. Gillen left to form BADLANDS (with now-KISS drummer Eric Singer, who also previously played with SABBATH), and this left BLACK SABBATH with a mostly completed album, and no singer. Tony Martin was brought in and re-recorded all the vocals in two weeks. The album came out with Tony Martin, and the only remaining bit of the original Ray Gillen vocals was some laughter in the track "Nightmare".

The original Ray Gillen version of "The Eternal Idol" has been traded in bootleg circles for ages now.

The additional tracks on "The Eternal Idol" expanded reissue include "Some Kind Of Woman" and "Black Moon" (demo) on Disc 1. Disc 2 will comprise the entire Ray Gillen version of "The Eternal Idol" album!

"The Eternal Idol" expanded reissue track listing is:

A lavish publication which traces the history of Whitesnake and is due out Spring 2011. From the ashes of Deep Purple, David Coverdale re-emerged in 1977 first with a couple of solo albums and then fronting his own band Whitesnake. Before long Coverdale was joined by two other former Deep Purple musicians, Jon Lord and Ian Paice, and by 1979 – with the addition of Bernie Marsden, Neil Murray and Micky Moody – was starting to enjoy strong album sales and headlining tours.
Through the early eighties the group built on that foundation and had a number of hit singles. Problems within the band led to more line-up changes, until by the mid-eighties a move to America saw the group reinvented as a mega selling metal act, with the massive selling 1987, an album which set standards as far as rock production went.
1989′s Slip Of The Tongue confirmed them as one of the biggest metal acts in the world and although David Coverdale has remained the only constant throughout, the Whitesnake name is still enough to sell-out the big arenas. The Live In The Still Of The Night tour DVD issued in 2006 was one of the biggest selling rock titles of the year. Coverdale has recently signed to record a new Whitesnake album in 2011.
This 240+ page biography traces Coverdale's early career in the Northern clubs around Redcar and Newcastle, and his fairy-tale promotion to the ranks of Deep Purple in late 1973. The formation of Whitesnake is explored, and the subsequent rise of the group in Europe and Japan. It is accompanied by a collection of rare and often unseen photographs, loads of rare memorabilia, a discography and concert list.
The original biography by Simon Robinson (which is the only detailed book on the band ever written, and is long out of print) has been totally updated and expanded by writer John Tucker, with a concert list by Nigel Young and new interviews.

publicity flyer for the book
The book is part of a new luxury range of rock books which aims to provide highly collectable editions which are both stylish and well designed, with an eye for detail and in-depth written content. 12″by12″, the hardback book is specially bound and comes inside a card slipcase, and will sit alongside your vinyl collection.
The book is available in a couple of editions. The 'standard edition' is £175 plus shipping. A more expensive edition in its own flight case is also planned. Signed versions (members of the group are involved in the project), a limited vinyl album, poster and other goodies will also be announced. We have been able to negotiate a discount for DPAS Members. The book will necessarily be a limited edition in this size and format.
The publishers are also offering an installment payment option. We have had the opportunity to see a pre-release mock-up and were suitably impressed by the quality of the production, which is the reason we agreed to get involved. The book will be launched in March / April 2011 and as soon as we have permission we will provide links to the publishers website. Because of the nature of the book it will only be available from the publishers, we are unable to stock it through our own store.
The publishers also have the more modestly priced Dio photo book on the go which can be pre-ordered from DTBmailorder

According to Travel Trade Gazette, IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson has been named marketing director for Astraeus Airlines, which leases aircraft and cabin crew to airlines. He will work with Astraeus chief commercial officer and director of leasing Shaun Monnery, who said the appointment was part of an expansion of the commercial team.

Monnery said, "Bruce is a great communicator, he knows the aviation industry inside-out from both technical and commercial perspectives, and in a demanding industry he is a man who can cope with pressure, whether as a 757 captain or in front of 50,000 IRON MAIDEN fans, or senior airline and aviation managers."

Dickinson added, "This is a marketing role aimed at delivering the Astraeus message and business proposition directly to what is a relatively tight and targeted audience of people and decision-makers in aviation.

"I'm a communicator, clearly I have a background in creative media, and I'm an airline captain, so it all makes great sense and I relish the challenge."

Dickinson, who is a longstanding pilot with Astraeus, told CNN.com in a 2007 interview, "Aviation's been kicking around my family for as long as I can remember; my uncle was in the RAF. But I always thought I was too stupid. I was useless at maths and majored in history at university, so I thought history majors don't become pilots, let alone rock stars. And then our drummer learned to fly so I said if a drummer can learn to fly then anyone can."

He added, "I never dreamed I would end up flying an airliner. I ended up flying IRON MAIDEN around on tour in a little eight-seat, pressurized, twin-engine plane. Basically we were flying round all the world's major airports, flew across the Atlantic and back, which was quite an adventure. At the end I thought I really want to fly something bigger, but I can't afford it — I can't buy my own 707. If I'm going to do that I have to get a job."

On how the thrill of piloting a 757 compares to taking to the stage with MAIDEN:

"It's a different kind of buzz. Obviously you aren't leaping around the flight deck yelling and screaming, but you have to manage situations... Flying at 35,000 feet is an internal thing, really. Whereas 35,000 people, that's just showing off."

On whether he will be hanging up his leopard-skin spandex forever:

"I could never contemplate giving up music. I have to say I've always been interested in planes, the only difference is I started to fly the darn things 15 years ago. I don't see why I should give up either of them. People say 'Why do you need a second job?' I say 'Why do you need to breathe?'"

According to The New Zealand Herald, student volunteers who helped in the clean-up efforts after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck 40 kiometers west of Christchurch, the capital of New Zealand, have been rewarded with tickets to a METALLICA gig.

METALLICA has two sold-out concerts at CBS Canterbury arena next week but in wake of the devastating earthquake on September 4 the band and promoter Michael Coppel wanted to help.

They had donated about 300 suite tickets for the student volunteers and emergency services to attend the concert.

Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker said it was a generous offer and sent a great message to the hundreds of people who had worked thousands of hours getting the city back up and running.

It's a rainy day in New York, and London-born, Switzerland-based Phil Collins is making the most of his time stateside. The 59-year-old singer/songwriter/drummer has brought his two youngest sons with him for a summer vacation. They've visited the Alamo in San Antonio-collecting artifacts from the 1836 battle is Collins' abiding passion these days, a hobby he can clearly afford, having sold 11.2 million albums as a solo artist during the Nielsen SoundScan era alone, while Genesis has moved 9.3 million albums in the same period.

But he also has a new record to promote: "Going Back," a collection of vintage soul covers, will be released on Atlantic Sept. 28 in North America and Sept. 14 in the rest of the world. It was recorded with musicians including three alumni of legendary Motown session players the Funk Brothers-and one of the music teachers from his 9-year-old son Nicholas' school.

"I wanted to keep it a low-key, low-profile album," Collins says of the self-produced set. "I wanted it to be fun."

There were other, more practical reasons for keeping the recording simple. While he has a hearing ailment that has "leveled off," a nerve-induced problem with the grip on his left hand meant Collins had to tape his drum sticks to his hands during recording. He doesn't think he'll fully play the instrument ever again. Which makes the cover image of "Going Back" all the more poignant: a photograph of a well-scrubbed 12-year-old Philip Collins, poised over a drum kit.

In an interview with Billboard, Collins reveals his love of Motown and why Genesis is finally over.
How did the idea for this album come about?

I didn't really have any desire to make another record. I figured it would be the most difficult thing to do; to do another record and then still maintain the time that I want to spend with my kids. As soon as you start making a record, things start getting lined up: the promotion, possibly even a tour. So I was ready to do nothing. But Tony Smith, my manager, mentioned as an aside one day, "Why don't you think about doing a Motown covers album?" And I thought, "Actually, that is something I've always wanted to do." And it sounded like it could be fun. So I started to work on demos in my studio at home. That took about nine months.

What are some of the songs you recorded?

The first song I decided to do was [Holland-Dozier-Holland's] "In My Lonely Room." One of my favorite bands in the '60s growing up was [British R&B group] the Action, and they did that song in their set, and it was the B-side of their first single. When I worked with Lamont Dozier in the '80s on the music for "Buster" [the 1988 British film in which Collins took the lead role], he'd mentioned that "In My Lonely Room" was one of his favorite songs that they had written, because he'd written most of it himself. And it was a darker choice-not many people knew the song.

How did you go about creating an album of Motown and soul classics that didn't sound like it was made in 2010?

We tried to use the technology of today to get it to sound like the technology of yesterday. We did a lot of research into how they recorded things back then. In fact, when we were mastering the record in New York, at Universal Mastering East, that studio coincidentally is the storage venue for all the Motown masters. So as a treat they gave me two or three songs to listen to in isolation-I could hear the drums on "Dancing in the Street." That was incredible.

You've said that these 18 tracks are "pretty much the Action's set list." What was it about that band that spoke to you so much?

I wish I knew. [Initially] they only did covers, but they did this material in their own way, but still holding the original material with reverence. And they had a fantastic drummer, Roger Powell, from whom I take an awful lot of influence. And we'd always go down and see them at [legendary London venue] the Marquee because we knew we were going to hear the songs we liked and new songs we could then take back to play in our school band. They were thought to be one of the next big things-they were produced by George Martin at the same time as he was working with the Beatles, which was unusual for him. They were without a doubt my biggest influence.

In your first band, Flaming Youth, then in Genesis, you didn't have the opportunity to explore this side of your musical tastes.

No, never. That's one of the reasons I did this record. Those couple of pages were torn out of my book. You usually go through a phase, certainly in America, where you're a bar band or playing clubs, and you're trying to infiltrate the material you've written quite slowly in amongst the covers. I remember seeing Yes doing the same thing-when they started they were an incredible band. But I was just never in that situation, because Genesis never did anybody else's material.

As your solo career took off in the early '80s, you were also putting in time producing other artists, notably Eric Clapton.

I met Eric in the late '70s when I was working with John Martyn, and we became firm friends. We were kind of country neighbors [living outside London]. I used to gravitate to his house pretty much every day. We used to go to football together, we played music, played pool and billiards into the night, did lots of naughty things . . . It was great fun. I don't think he actually knew what I did though. And one day I was playing Hammersmith Odeon. And I invited Patti Boyd, who was then his wife, and Eric to the show. And he was kind of blown away when he found out that I was actually in his business.

How did your relationship become a professional one?

Eventually, because I was starting to become pretty well-known for the sound of my records as well as anything else, he rang me up one day and said, "Do you fancy producing my record?" He said, "[Producer] Tom Dowd's been talking about trying to get some Phil Collins sound on the record somehow. And I thought, "Well, I know you, so I might as well miss out the third man and go straight to the boss." That became "Behind the Sun."

You also drummed with Robert Plant on his first solo U.S. tour and famously played both the London and Philadelphia Live Aid shows in 1985. Were those kinds of gigs as exciting to you as being in the studio and recording?

Oh, yeah. Doing stuff with Robert and Eric was far more exciting for me than working with Genesis, frankly. I even played on something with [Pete] Townshend, for an artist that he was producing. And that was around the time that Moony [Who drummer Keith Moon] died. And I remember saying, "If you ever need a drummer, I'm there. I'll leave Genesis in a moment if you needed me for the Who." I would have died for that job.

You won an Academy Award in 1999 for "You'll Be in My Heart" from "Tarzan," as well as seven Grammy Awards and two Golden Globes. And this year, Genesis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and you received the Johnny Mercer Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Which of your plaudits means the most?

The Oscar was well up there. It's not often that an English drummer gets an Oscar. So I'm very, very proud of that. But the Johnny Mercer Award is from your peers, and it's a songwriting thing, so it's not a bullshitty award. Some awards you get if you turn up and show your face.

What key changes have you noticed in the industry in the 40 years since you joined Genesis?

To see a lot of the smaller labels disappear or get gobbled up by the bigger labels, that's a shame. It was a bit of a shock at first to see the demise of the record stores. But to me, I'm still having to do the same things I had to do 10 or 20 years ago. Although the amount of records that it takes to chart-that's a big surprise. I grew up in the day when the Beatles sold 1 million singles in a week. And all you've got to do now is sell about 10,000 singles and you're in the charts.

What does the future hold for Genesis?

I think Genesis are no longer. I don't foresee me doing any more Genesis shows. Not because I don't like it or don't want to. But it doesn't fit in with my life and wanting to be with the boys, and taking onboard [my other interests like] the Alamo and writing a book about that. And the other stuff that I'd like to do-and that includes doing nothing as well. But also, I can't physically play the drums. I don't want to sound like a spoiled kid, like I've had my stuff and I don't want to do it anymore. But I have done it all my life, and now I'm enjoying another side of life.

You set up the release of "Going Back" with a short run of shows in Philadelphia and New York and at Switzerland's Montreux Jazz Festival earlier in the summer, and you've said you might do more if the album does well. Beyond that, would you consider doing a greatest-hits tour?

Well, I would say, "Never say never." But I don't think I would do it in a traditional touring way. If I ever did anything else like that, it would be a couple of weeks on, three weeks off.

Will you do another album of original material?

I haven't got the material yet. That kind of thing starts to answer itself when you sit down in the studio and try to write. I've got two or three things that I really like that I've already written. They're very dark, very sad, some of them. But I'm still at the same point that I was: If something was to come up behind me and surprise me, I'd put it out. Whether I'd put it out in the traditional way is another question.

Seattle progressive rockers QUEENSRŸCHE have partnered with Capitol/EMI for the November 9 release of an expanded 20th-anniversary edition of the band's triple platinum-certified breakout album "Empire". The new 2CD and digital packages both include the remastered album, featuring six hit singles, including the #1 smash "Silent Lucidity", as well as 13 bonus tracks, among them 10 previously unreleased live performances recorded in 1990 at London's Hammersmith Odeon. The 2CD package is presented in a lift-top box with five postcards, a fold-out poster and a booklet featuring rare photos from the band's personal archive.

After building a devoted fan base with album and EP releases throughout the 1980s, including 1988's critically acclaimed "Operation: Mindcrime", QUEENSRŸCHE broke into the mainstream across North America and abroad with the 1990 release of "Empire". In the U.S., the album peaked at #7 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and its hit ballad "Silent Lucidity" quickly became a heavy rotation staple at rock radio and on MTV, topping Billboard's Modern Rock singles chart and earning QUEENSRŸCHE the coveted MTV Viewers Choice Award for the song's music video. "Empire" also made the U.K.'s Top 10, and the album's international success led to QUEENSRŸCHE's 18-month headlining "Building Empires" world tour, the band's longest trek to date.

"Empire" also features the Billboard Top 10 Modern Rock hits "Jet City Woman" and "Another Rainy Night", the Top 20 single "Anybody Listening?", and the Top 30 singles "Best I Can" and "Empire". In addition to the aforementioned live recordings, "Empire (20th Anniversary Edition)"'s bonus tracks include "Last Time in Paris" from the "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" soundtrack, "Dirty Lil' Secret" and the band's cover of SIMON & GARFUNKEL's "Scarborough Fair".

Since forming in Bellevue, Washington in 1981, QUEENSRŸCHE has sold more than 20 million albums around the world. The band continues to tour and record; "American Soldier" was released last year.

Marky Ramone is a member of the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, and is best known for the 15 years he spent drumming for the RAMONES. RAMONES formed in 1974, and are often cited as the first punk-rock group. Marky is the only living member of the longest running RAMONES lineup, which featured Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee, and Marky. He has performed over 1,700 shows and has appeared on more than 15 album releases during his tenure (starting in 1978) as a member of the RAMONES.
MOJOBONE, the project consisting of OPETH's Per Wiberg on lead vocals and guitars and Marcus Källström (SKY HIGH, STONECAKE) on drums, will perform tonight (Wednesday, September 15) at Stockholm, Sweden's Göta Källare in Medborgarplatsen. The band will be joined by OPETH's lead guitarist Fredrik Åkesson and Thomas Thorberg (PLANKTON) on bass guitar. MOJOBONE will be supporting heavy blues trio KAMCHATKA. Doors open around 9 p.m.

MOJOBONE's third album, "Cowboy Mode", was released in June via Wiberg's own label, Hippodome Music. According to a press release, the CD "takes you on a consciousness expanding experience to match no others. Each song uniquely delves into every level of the essence of life. The good. The bad. The ugly. Right from the start, 'Over the Hill' hooks the listener with its heavy, infectious rhythms. With its robust chorus and alluring pace, 'The Peacemakers' gratifies the ears with every step. The doom blues charge of the album's title track adds a new twist to your senses. A journey to the powerful climax of '25 Years' will leave you breathless as you roll into 'Celebrate Armageddon', taking your listening pleasure on a rollercoaster ride of intensity. 'Cowboy Mode' features several musically inclined friends of Wiberg's who jumped at the chance to lend their own special touch of genius. For example, a roaring sax solo in the epic 'End of Music, End of
Story' and dynamic vocal lines throughout, further the appeal of diversity through groovin' symmetry."

According to Twin Cities Metal, legendary Minneapolis '70s band CAIN will reunite for a performance this Friday, November 17 at the Mid-America Music Hall Of Fame induction show. Cindy from the Mid-America Music Hall Of Fame has confirmed that the lineup for this special performance will include vocalist Jiggs Lee, bassist Dave Elmeer, keyboardist Chaz Carlson, Brad Schultz, and Marc Partridge. CAIN is scheduled to go on at 10:40 p.m., and they will play five to seven songs. According to Cindy, the band is "very excited about playing again" and "they are having some fun with it."

This one-time CAIN reunion is in honor of their induction into the Mid-America Music Hall Of Fame. CAIN vocalist Jiggs Lee commented on the induction, "Now that you look at what you've done, you've managed to incentivize some really good musicians to come together to play some really good stuff." The Mid-America Hall Of Fame induction show takes place this Thursday–Saturday, September 16-18 at the Sheraton Bloomington hotel in Bloomington, Minnesota, and will feature an impressive lineup of 24 performing inductees.

CAIN was one of the heaviest bands out of the Midwest in the mid-'70s, and they created quite a stir nationally with their two albums, "A Pound Of Flesh" and "Stinger". Out of print until reissued by Monster Records (now Rockadrome) in 2003, "A Pound Of Flesh" is one of the most beloved and collectable cult metal/hard rock albums from the '70s. Their legend has only grown throughout the years, and notable metal critics such as Martin Popoff have long heaped praise upon their albums. To the best of knowledge, CAIN has not performed live since the late '70s.

The Pulse of Radio reports that ALICE IN CHAINS kicks off the BlackDiamondSkye tour on Thursday (September 16) in Chicago with DEFTONES and MASTODON, and the band has a surprise planned for its fans. At each stop on the tour, an envelope will be hidden under one seat at the venue. Whoever opens it will find each band's autographed set list for that night, along with a VIP laminate featuring a secret code.

The code will enter the laminate into a drawing to win a custom Gibson guitar signed by all the members of the tour valued at more than $2,000, along with a Marshall amplifier half-stack valued at $2,050. A total of only 19 people — one from each gig — will be entered into the contest.

As for the musical portion of the tour itself, ALICE IN CHAINS singer William DuVall told The Pulse of Radio that he expects both the fans and the bands to enjoy themselves. "One of the things that's great about this tour is that every band kind of has their own style, their own flavor, but the bill somehow meshes very well," he said. "The sense of event around this obviously makes it very special. It's just gonna be a good time all the way around. Really, we can't think of a better way to kind of cap this round of touring."

The tour is named after each of the three bands' latest albums — ALICE IN CHAINS' "Black Gives Way To Blue", DEFTONES' "Diamond Eyes" and MASTODON's "Crack The Skye".

DuVall said in a recent interview that ALICE IN CHAINS will likely record a follow-up to "Black Gives Way To Blue", which was the group's first full-length studio effort in 14 years.

DuVall joined ALICE IN CHAINS in 2006 when the band started touring again for the first time in 10 years. Original vocalist Layne Staley died in 2002.

Influential '90s alt-metal act FAITH NO MORE will play the final concert of it reunion tour on December 5 in Santiago, Chile.

The band made a comeback in June 2009 with a headlining performance at the Brixton Academy in London, England and has been playing sporadic shows ever since.

Although fans have been hoping that FAITH NO MORE would eventually enter a recording studio to begin work on a new album, it now appears that the group has decided against the idea.

Keyboardist Roddy Bottum told Chile's Terra.cl, "In my opinion recording an album was a great idea. The balance was good because we know each other well. But things were complicated — it was very strange to return after a decade.

"When we decided to get together, it was to reconnect and relive something we had in common. It was very important to us — but doing these shows was the only thing we were going to do.

"The craziest thing was when we met for the first time, all in a room after not seeing each other for so long.

"When we started, I thought we would only see older people at the shows, but it was mostly young people and that was very surprising.

"We've visited many wonderful places and it's all been good."

According to Bottum, the band is considering having the Santiago concert professionally filmed for a live DVD, although this has not been officially confirmed.

When asked about what he thinks FAITH NO MORE's legacy will be, Bottum told Terra.cl, "We're a very humble band — we know who we are and we just do what we do. People sometimes say we've been a big influence, which we appreciate very much — we feel very honored.

"I've never heard INCUBUS, KORN or LIMP BIZKIT. People tell me ARCADE FIRE sounds like FAITH NO MORE, but I've never heard them either."

After FAITH NO MORE completes its reunion tour, Bottum will return to his band IMPERIAL TEEN while his FNM bandmates resume work on their own individual projects.

The track listing for "Queens of the Stone Age", a reissue of QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE's critically-lauded 1998 self-titled debut, reflects the band's original vision for the album with three tracks that were initially cut from the record reinstated.

The sought-after and long-out-of-print album arrives in-stores on Black Friday (November 26) via Joshua Homme's own Rekords Rekords as a special bundled package featuring the album both as a 180 gram double-gatefold, double LP and a digital download card (a straight CD release will follow on December 7).

For diehard fans of traditional heavy metal, German outfit ATLANTEAN KODEX's upcoming album, "The Golden Bough", is one of the most anticipated releases of 2010. Due on October 4 via the Italian metal label Cruz Del Sur Music, the powerful set boasts nine tracks of pure heavy metal packed with raging solos, plenty of melody but with a serious underlying heaviness, all fueled by soaring, triumphant vocals. The effort will be made it available on CD, double gatefold LP (a limited edition with poster released in collaboration with Iron Kodex Records) and digital format.

Since its inception in 2006, this tight German band has built a strong and devoted fanbase over a series of limited edition releases, as well as participation in some of the most important European metal festivals, including Keep It True, Hammer of Doom, Up the Hammers and more.

Taking its next leap forward on "The Golden Bough", the magic of ATLANTEAN KODEX's heavy metal is more bold and apparent than ever, before, already being praised by Germany's Rock Hard magazine as "maybe one of the best metal albums from Germany ever." With references to early MANOWAR, "Hammerheart"-era BATHORY and SOLSTICE, "The Golden Bough" should not leave any fan of epic heavy metal unmoved.

Miami, Florida's BLACK TIDE is tentatively scheduled to release its sophomore album in February. The follow-up to 2008's "Light From Above" (Interscope) was recorded at Spin Studios in New York with producers Garth "GGGarth" Richardson (RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, MUDVAYNE) and Josh Wilbur (LAMB OF GOD, AVENGED SEVENFOLD).

"[The producers] really pushed us," BLACK TIDE singer Gabriel Garcia, 17, told SoundSpike. "That was the best thing. Especially Josh. He was there recording all the demos during the songwriting process. We wrote 42 songs for this record. The sound changed completely, so we really found our sound with Josh. He saw it all come together and he was pushing us the whole time, the whole way."

BLACK TIDE will release a digital single on September 21 containing two new tracks, "Honest Eyes" and "Bury Me", both of which will also appear on the forthcoming album.

The band's setlist for the tour with BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, ESCAPE THE FATE and DRIVE A, which begins Thursday, September 16 in Wichita, Kansas, will include three new songs — the songs that appear on the EP and a third titled "Let It Out" — as well as four songs from "Light From Above".

"This tour's even more exciting because these songs are where we are now," Garcia told SoundSpike. "For all the [past] tours, it was kind of hard for me to be excited about playing music that we wrote when I was 13. I grew up on the tours. Not that I'm not proud of what I did before, [but] I grew out of it, you know? I was ready to make new music right off the bat. It's exciting to be able to do that."

Atlanta, Georgia-based metallers BECOMING THE ARCHETYPE will enter the studio on October 10 with producer Matt Goldman (UNDEROATH, THE CHARIOT, COPELAND) to begin recording their fourth album for an early 2011 release via via Solid State Records.

"Dichotomy", the third album from BECOMING THE ARCHETYPE, sold around 2,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD debuted at No. 18 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Dichotomy" was released in November 2008 via Solid State Records. The CD's cover artwork was created by Kristian Wahlin (AT THE GATES, AMORPHIS, BATHORY, DISSECTION, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, THERION, EVERGREY). The album featured guest appearances by Ryan Clark (DEMON HUNTER), Devin Townsend (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) and a soprano named Suzanne Richter.

Florida-based death metal veterans MORBID ANGEL entered Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida on June 22 with engineer Erik Rutan (former MORBID ANGEL guitarist and producer for such bands as CANNIBAL CORPSE, MISERY INDEX and GOATWHORE) to begin recording their ninth full-length album. Due late 2010/early 2011 via Season Of Mist, the new CD will be the band's first to be recorded without longtime drummer Pedro "Pete" Sandoval, who recently underwent back surgery for a deteriorating disc problem. Filling in for him on a temporary basis is Tim Yeung, who has previously played with DIVINE HERESY, ALL THAT REMAINS, NILE, HATE ETERNAL and VITAL REMAINS).

Commented Yeung: "I must say that it is been a huge honor to be playing for one of my favorite bands that I grew up listening to as well as filling in for one of my biggest metal drumming inspirations.

"I'm currently in Tampa, Florida finishing up the new album with David [Vincent, bass/vocals] and Trey [Azagthoth, guitar] and it's going great! Overall, I think it may be one of their most well-rounded albums ever. There are killer experimental electronic parts as well as some really cool groove parts. Don't worry — there is plenty of blast beats and blazing double bass as well!

"I've also been working on a ddrum signature snare which will be out early next year. It's a 14x6.5, steel shell, flanged hoops, USA tube lugs etc. This drum is absolutely perfect. I've been beating on the prototype and I'm in love with it! I also have been working with 3rd Degree merch on a Tim Yeung package which includes a T-shirt, my personal sticks and an autographed poster. There is a limited supply so don't wait around!"

Professionally filmed video footage of MORBID ANGEL's entire June 27, 2009 performance at the Rock al Parque festival at Parque Simon Bolivar in Bogota, Colombia can be viewed at this location. A clip of the new song "Nevermore" is available below. (Note: The footage originally aired on Colombia's Canal Capital.)

MORBID ANGEL guitarist Trey Azagthoth last year spoke to Revolver magazine about the band's upcoming album, which will mark the Florida-based group's first release to feature bassist/vocalist David Vincent since 1995's "Domination".

"We played the new song 'Nevemore' on the last tour and that kind of shows where our heads are at," he said. "I'd say it's like an assemblage of all sorts of stuff from the catalog and some new influences. I listen to a lot of hardcore [techno] music now — the fuckin' serious, artistic stuff, not that crap you hear at the clubs. That stuff has impact and it's really extreme. Even if there's no guitar in it or no real drums, the energy coming out of the speakers is amazing." He added, "All I can say is, when it's ready, it's going to be extreme and outside the box. And, hopefully, the songs will inspire people to look deeper inside themselves for 'the stuff' and to tap that potential that we as human beings have."

Although MORBID ANGEL has yet to announce a title for the new CD, its name will likely begin with the letter "I", in keeping with the band's tradition of titling their albums in alphabetical order beginning with 1989's "Altars of Madness", and continuing through "Heretic".

MORBID ANGEL played its first show with new touring guitarist, ZYKLON's longtime axemeister Destructhor (a.k.a. Thor Anders Myhren), on June 22, 2008 at the Hellfest in Clisson, France.

Regarding Destructhor's addition to the band's touring lineup, Vincent said, "We had a fairly long audition process. We looked long and hard at this. We decided when we began this process that it was gonna be a unanimous decision. We had several people [apply for the job] — very good players from, really, all over the world — and we got a video from Thor — the same video that we asked from all the different players; the same two songs — and some people didn't get past the initial discussion stage, and then some people went on to the next stage and it ended up that the band unanimously felt that Thor would be the best guitarist for the band."

After a very successful run on this summer's Ozzfest, New Orleans, Louisiana's sons of American no-frills black metal meets death and roll GOATWHORE will be once again hitting the road in support of their current album, "Carving Out The Eyes Of God", which came out in June 2009. Starting on September 22 in Raleigh, North Carolina at Volume 11, GOATWHORE will be joining Metal Blade labelmates THE ABSENCE for six dates and will head straight into the start of THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER tour that kicks off on September 28 in Columbus, Ohio at Skully's. GOATWHORE will then be ending a very successful year of touring by joining WATAIN and BLACK ANVIL for a tour that takes the group across the U.S. throughout the month of November. Shortly after GOATWHORE finishes up its run with WATAIN and BLACK ANVIL, the band will enter the studio to begin recording its fifth full-length album, and third for Metal Blade Records.

Comments GOATWHORE vocalist Ben Falgoust: "Just when one tour comes to an end, another few step into place.

"We have, as always, put an extreme effort on touring for each release we put out. Our most current release, 'Carving Out The Eyes Of God', is no exception and has brought us on many great touring adventures. Just returning home from Ozzfest 2010 we find ourselves locking in the rest of the year with two excellent tours. First, alongside our good friends in THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, then a final end of the year outing with the black art of WATAIN.

"The Ozzfest experience was a great thing to be a part of. Playing and hanging with good friends and the bonus of watching some legendary musicians that have influenced us from our earlier metal years.

"We are looking forward to finishing up the year and getting things rolling for the next release.

"Hope to see everyone on the road in the next couple of months"

Drummer Zack Simmons adds: "This has been a great time touring for this record.

"We've been very fortunate to been included on a lot of good tours.

"It was an honor to be included on Ozzfest once again.

"We are very confident and determined to deliver another killer record and tour our asses off again, as we always do!"

GOATWHORE's latest album, "Carving Out The Eyes Of God", sold around 2,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 190. The CD landed at No. 67 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Carving Out The Eyes of God" was released in the U.S. on June 23, 2009 via Metal Blade Records.

For the follow-up to 2006's "A Haunting Curse", GOATWHORE headed back to St. Petersburg, Florida to record with producer Erik Rutan at Mana Recording Studios, with mastering being handled by Alan Douches of West West Side.

SKELETONWITCH's Scott Hedrick commented, "We live for the road, so after six weeks of writing the next record, it's going to be great to get back on the stage, basement floor, your mother's house... whatever! Perhaps we'll break out some new tunes. We'll definitely break out some beers! It's also killer to tour with two other Prosthetic bands. Keeping it in the family!"

Singer/guitarist Mike Thompson from WITHERED, who will be joining the run late due to touring commitments with DANZIG, added, "We are really looking forward to the dates we're doing with our friends SKELETONWITCH. It's been a few years since we've gone out with them, so we've got a lot of ridiculousness to make up for. Life never ceases to surprise."

LANDMINE MARATHON's Ryan Butler commented, "We're ecstatic to be touring with our friends in SKELETONWITCH. It's gonna be an absolute blast. We're also extremely excited to be hitting a lot of cities that LANDMINE has never played before and looking forward to gaining fans and friends in those areas. A very metal time will be had by all!"

In addition, SKELETONWITCH has been confirmed as the headliner of the fourth annual All Hallows Eve Fest, taking place at The Backstage in Chillicothe, Ohio on October 23.

SKELETONWITCH's "Submit To The Suffering" video was directed by Don Tyler (MASTODON, RINGWORM) before the band hit the road for the summer, which included a Canadian tour supporting HIGH ON FIRE, a stop at Heavy MTL festival in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and an appearance at this year's Ozzfest.

"Crushed Beyond Dust", a track from SKELETONWTICH's critically acclaimed 2009 album "Breathing the Fire", is now available for download via the newly launched Rock Band Network.

Rock Band Network, announced in July 2009, is a ground-breaking initiative that gives musicians, publishers and record labels the ability to author their original recordings into gameplay files to promote and sell their music as playable Rock Band tracks through the Rock Band Network Music Store (RBN Store).

"Crushed Beyond Dust" can be purchased for play here. A free demo version can be downloaded at this location.

SKELETONWITCH's "Worship the Witch" 10-inch EP was recently made available through Prosthetic Records.

Originally self-released released by the band as a follow-up to its first full-length, "At One With The Shadows", the four-song "Worship the Witch" EP has never been made available on vinyl — until now.

The artwork for "Worship the Witch" was reconfigured by John Baizley (KYLESA, BARONESS).

Bassist Frank Watkins has confirmed to BLABBERMOUTH.NET that he is no longer a member of the veteran Florida death metal act OBITUARY.

SIX FEET UNDER/ex-MASSACRE bassist Terry Butler has been playing bass for OBITUARY on some of the band's most recent dates, leading to speculation that Watkins had left the group.

When asked about Frank's absence from OBITUARY's recent tours and whether Butler is a permanent addition to the band's lineup, OBITUARY guitarist Trevor Peres said late last month in an interview with Contraband Candy, "Nothing's permanent. We want [Terry] to be our bass player permanently. Obviously he plays in SIX FEET UNDER, and we're trying to make the schedules work like a puzzle so he can play in both bands. He doesn't really wanna jump ship from SIX FEET, 'cause he has a good situation there, but we want him to play with us, so it's all good. And the reason we don't have Frank Watkins anymore is... just because."

When BLABBERMOUTH.NET contacted Watkins via e-mail and asked him for a clarification regarding his position in OBITUARY, he replied, "I cannot elaborate on what is going on at the moment but I am NOT playing with OBITUARY anymore!"

Watkins has been a touring and recording member of the Norwegian black metal band GORGOROTH since December 2007.

OBITUARY's new concert DVD, "Live Xecution - Party.San 2008", was filmed at 2008's Party.San Open Air festival, which was held in Bad Berka, Germany.

Night Of The Vinyl Dead Records recently released a limited-edition vinyl version of OBITUARY's "Left To Die" EP. Only 500 hand-numbered copies were made available on hand-splattered bloody vinyl, including an insert.

"Left to Die" contains four songs: two new originals ("Forces Realign" and "Left To Die"), a 2008 studio recording of "Slowly We Rot", and a cover of "Dethroned Emperor" by CELTIC FROST.

DEATH BREATH — the Swedish old-school death metal project featuring former ENTOMBED drummer and main songwriter Nicke Andersson (most recently the frontman of rock 'n' roll band THE HELLACOPTERS) — has issued the following update:

"We have a finished [DEATH BREATH] album except for some vocals left to do.

"We've been touring most of the spring/summer with our other bands or doing albums, etc. That's just the way it is.

"[We] still can't say when we will put the next DEATH BREATH release out, but it will happen when we feel the time is right.

A unmixed version of a brand new DEATH BREATH track, "Obsessed By Sodomy", is available for streaming on the group's MySpace page.

DEATH BREATH's latest EP, "Let It Stink", was released in the U.S. in August 2007 via Relapse Records.

"Let It Stink" featured four brand new songs as well as three covers by BATHORY ("Sacrifice"), G.B.H. ("Lycantrophy") and DISCHARGE ("Maimed And Slaughtered"). The CD version of "Let It Stink" contained a brand new version of the video for the song "Death Breath" as well as the original one.

California grindcore merchants PHOBIA will release a brand new EP, "Unrelenting", this fall via Relapse Records. Featuring 17 new tracks with a running time of just over 14 minutes, the EP will be available on CD, LP, and digitally starting November 23 in North America. CD pre-orders available now at this location.

A track from the EP, entitled "Out Of Control", can be streamed on the band's MySpace page.

PHOBIA will team up with WORMROT for a run of dates starting this weekend in San Antonio, Texas. The band will also take part in the fourth annual Chicago Apocalyptic Crust Fest during the weekend of October 8-9 in Chicago, Illinois.
