[Classic_Rock_Forever] Guns N Roses, Megadeth, Anthrax, Sebastian Bach, tons of hard rock and heavy metal news

0

According to BBC News, the boss of the U.K.'s Reading and Leeds festival has made it clear that if this year's headliners GUNS N' ROSES arrive on stage late, as they did in 2002, he'll pull the plug on their set.

Eight years ago the Axl Rose-fronted band was over two hours late at Leeds, and it landed the festival in hot water with the local council.

"If GUNS N' ROSES decide to take to stage as late as they did in Leeds some years ago then the performance just won't happen," Melvin Benn told BBC News.

"I've had a very heavy warning from the local councils. There is a curfew — it's a very strict curfew."

As previously reported, GN'R's late start at the Rock 'N Rev Festival in Sturgis, South Dakota on August 13 — where the band came on at around 1:00 a.m., nearly two hours after previous act ALICE IN CHAINS — was apparently due to a technical issue and not Axl Rose's well-known tendency to start shows hours behind schedule.

According to the Rapid City Journal, festival official Dan Catullo said that a switchover from festival sound equipment to GUNS' own gear took longer than anticipated and also caused complications with the festival's video crew, who were filming the event.

Catullo said that Rose, who is notorious for showing up late or not at all for concerts, was "the most insanely professional gentleman that I ever met. He came and did his job exactly as contracted."

The long delay led to a large portion of the crowd leaving before GUNS came on, while others hurled beer cans and other objects at the stage.

The Rock 'N Rev Festival, part of the 70th annual Sturgis Bike Rally, was the first U.S. concert appearance by GUNS N' ROSES in four years and only official U.S. show of 2010.

Pat Prince of Goldmine magazine recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Goldmine: How did it feel getting [bassist] Dave Ellefson back in the band?

Mustaine: Yeah, it felt pretty good. He's a good guy. We had our falling out, obviously, when my arm got hurt I had to break the band up and he didn't really like that too much. Then the lawsuit happened. It was dismissed and he lost. And we met and he apologized and I figured how can I not forgive him. He's my little brother and he made a dumb decision and I love him, and he's my friend, so … You know, I don't know if he won what would have happened, but he lost, and I'm Christian and I've been forgiven so I have to forgive him. There's just no way that I can think that I deserve to be forgiven if I'm not going to do the same. And that set up the whole feeling of what's going on here, right now. There's just such a great feeling of camaraderie. Now I'm not saying it's the Christian forgiveness that I experienced with Dave Ellefson that has permeated the whole tour but I will say this: everybody is getting along really well and we are getting along
better than we did when we did "Clash of the Titans" (90-91). And if you can remember, we did "Clash" with SLAYER and TESTAMENT overseas in Europe. So this is like the European version of "Clash of the Titans" if we had SUICIDAL TENDENCIES on here.

Goldmine: Sharing the tour with SLAYER … Do any of the Satanic themes of SLAYER bother you?

Mustaine: No. I'm not really really familiar with SLAYER's stuff, so it doesn't really bother me. I like the guys in the band and their music is really aggressive. Their live show is really happening and it's just one of those shows you gotta see. Tom (Araya) had an injury that kind of set him back a little but the band still has enough adrenaline going for them that even with his adjustment after his surgery they're still a force to be reckoned with. And I'm proud to be touring with them. And then TESTAMENT has two really great guitar players, with Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick.

Goldmine: And soon there will be the addition of ANTHRAX.

Mustaine: Yeah. That's another one of the "Big Four." And a lot of people have said that TESTAMENT should have been one of the "Big Four." And, of course, I can add, that would have made it the "Big Five." Plus I think it would have been awesome if ANTHRAX could have been on the tour when TESTAMENT's on here. I'm not sure if TESTAMENT is still going to be on here when ANTHRAX comes on. I hope they do, it'll be really great, but I'm not sure that they're going to.

Goldmine: Anyway, back in the '80s, people probably took the Satanic stuff seriously. No one really cares as much now. Back then, it was a huge thing.

Mustaine: See, that's the scary thing, too.

Goldmine: That no one cares?

Mustaine: Yeah, that no one cares. Well, I do. One of the greatest tricks that the devil has ever done is convincing people he doesn't exist.

Following seven historic shows as part of the "Big Four" European festival dates with METALLICA, SLAYER and MEGADETH, ANTHRAX will join SLAYER and MEGADETH on the Jägermeister Fall Music Tour set to kick off September 24 at Superpages in Dallas, Texas. The 20-date concert trek will mark the first U.S. tour ANTHRAX has done since vocalist Joey Belladonna rejoined the band earlier this year, and the first time the three bands have shared an American stage since the classic 1991 "Clash of the Titans" tour. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com (KnoxvilleTickets.com for the Knoxville date).

For this tour, ANTHRAX has teamed up with Artist Arena to offer fans the ultimate ANTHRAX VIP Package, which consists of a meet-and-greet pass to meet ANTHRAX, an autographed commemorative poster, a commemorative tour laminate, and an exclusive VIP-only ANTHRAX T-shirt.

For more details, and to get your ANTHRAX VIP Package, go to this location (Usermane: anthrax; Password: tickets).

Media showered praise on the Belladonna-fronted ANTHRAX for the European "Big Four" festivals: "It's been almost two decades since [Belladonna] initially parted with ANTHRAX, but he proved to be in raw, primal and fine form," one European journalist wrote, while another noted, "ANTHRAX made their presence known with a raucous roar...you would never have known that they weren't the headliners."

"It's great to see so many people getting excited about us being together again," said Belladonna. "Even with just one day of rehearsal before the show in Poland, we played really well and really jelled together on stage. We had a great time in Europe, and are looking forward to seeing our U.S. fans this fall."

"Everything has been going so great, just like we hoped it would," said guitarist Scott Ian. "We wanted Joey to say yes to coming back to the band, we hoped all would go well, and everything couldn't be going any better."

For the Jägermeister Fall Music Tour, fans can expect an ANTHRAX set packed with some of their all-time favorite songs — "Caught In The Mosh", "Antisocial", "Madhouse" and "Indians" are just a few that the band knows HAVE to be played.

"There are a lot of songs to fit into 50-minutes," laughed drummer Charlie Benante, "so we'll probably change up the set list a little from night to night, and we might debut a new song from our upcoming album as well."

Since returning from the European tour, the members of ANTHRAX have begun writing and rehearsing for their new album which is expected out in early 2011.

"We've got an unusual luxury of hindsight," Ian explained. "We finished an album more than a year ago, we've lived with those 12 songs since then, and we can look back on them and see what we really love and what we can make even better, especially with Joey back in the fold. On these U.S. dates, we'll have a portable rig with us so we can work on the songs during any down time, and get everything to the point where we'll be ready to get into the studio as soon as possible."

Added Benante, "There are five or six songs from a year ago that we don't want to change, we love them the way they are, other than having Joey making them his own with his vocals. Then there's another five or six that we may want to rework, and then there are a bunch of other tunes that are still in the early stages, that we want to finish."

With worldwide sales in excess of 10-million, ANTHRAX is about to celebrate its 29th year as a band. Over its career, ANTHRAX has received multiple gold and platinum albums, multiple Grammy nominations, and a host of other accolades from the press, industry and fans. Belladonna, an essential part of ANTHRAX's lineup from 1985 to 1992, sang on some of the band's most popular albums, including "Spreading the Disease", "Among the Living" and "Persistence of Time". He had reunited with original members of ANTHRAX for the 2005 - 2007 "Among the Living Tour", but is now permanently back in the fold.

"We're super-excited that SLAYER and MEGADETH asked us to be part of this tour," said Ian, "especially coming off of the European shows. To tour with both of them again in the U.S. is an unbelievable high, and we can't wait. This is why we love being in a band: it's not work, it's 'let's go out and have some fun with our friends.'"

ANTHRAX will also headline two shows while out on the Jägermeister tour.

Slash (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES), Eddie Vedder (PEARL JAM), Flea (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS ) and Billy Gibbons (ZZ TOP) are among the guest musicians who appear on Ronnie Wood's seventh studio album, "I Feel Like Playing", which is due on September 28 via Eagle Records.

Featuring twelve brand new cuts, written specially for this release, "I Feel Like Playing" takes its name [and cover] from one of Ronnie's most vibrant recent artworks. The color and verve of the artwork is equally reflected in the swagger and roll of the music on the album. Solo work has always co-existed alongside Ronnie's band commitments and "I Feel Like Playing" is, he feels, his best album yet.

Ronnie Wood needs no introduction to any fan of British rock music. Starting his career with THE BIRDS and then CREATION, it was when Ronnie joined the JEFF BECK GROUP that he truly started to stamp his identity on the music world. After that group split, Ronnie — along with Rod Stewart — joined up with ex-SMALL FACES Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones in THE FACES. While Ronnie (and Rod) moved on after a couple of years, THE FACES are viewed by all rock fans as a truly classic band; and in fact they perform a handful of dates in 2010 with Mick Hucknall on vocals. After the release of his first solo album, Ronnie was invited to join THE ROLLING STONES — in 1975 — and remains with them to this day.

Rightly revered for his time with THE FACES, JEFF BECK GROUP and, of course, the STONES, Ronnie Wood has continued to chart his own course and his output of both high-quality music and art has been a constant. "I Feel Like Playing" is a great addition to his catalogue and all lovers of true British creative mavericks will find much to admire.

"I Feel Like Playing" track listing:

Former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach has scheduled a U.K. headlining concert at Leamington Assembly Hall in Warwickshire on October 15.

Bach has posted 100 new photographs, including shots from the set of JOHN RICH's video shoot for his new single, "Country Done Come To Town", and pictures from Bach's recent trip to Norway to perform at the Norway Rock festival.

Bach is currently working on material for his next solo album, which he expects to release sometime in 2011.

Although nothing has been confirmed yet, Sebastian's new CD will likely be made available through Sony Music in Japan.

Bach's current solo band includes guitarists Nick Sterling and Johnny Chromatic, drummer Bobby Jarzombek and bassist Rob DeLuca.

Sebastian last year collaborated with HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta on several tracks for Bach's new solo album, with Nick and Charlie Bellmore of the Connecticut band PHANTOMS assisting during the pre-production process. The singer has also written material with John 5 (ROB ZOMBIE, MARILYN MANSON).

Bach supported GUNS N' ROSES on the band's recently completed South American and Canadian tours.

Mark Kadzielawa of 69 Faces Of Rock recently conducted an interview with VOIVOD/MARTYR guitarist Dan Mongrain. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

69 Faces Of Rock: How did you get involved with Voivod?

Dan Mongrain: First of all, let me say that VOIVOD is my favorite band of all time. I remember being 11 years old and listening to "Killing Technology". I didn't even play guitar at that time. I bought a guitar after I saw these guys on Musique Plus (Canadian music television), and started to play. It was "Ravenous Medicine" video clip they showed, and it was just awesome. I decided to play guitar at that very moment. I met Blacky [VOIVOD bassist] in 2002, and we played together for 20th anniversary of metal in Montreal, Quebec. It was a band with Flo Mounier from CRYPTOPSY and some local players that were known in Quebec. We played a show there and became friends. A couple of years later, I was writing an album with my other band, MARTYR, and we decided to do a VOIVOD cover of "Brain Scan", and we invited Blacky to play on it. Around the same time, Piggy [late VOIVOD guitarist] got sick and passed away. Our album was finished. We decided to do that song
live as a tribute to Piggy. In fact, we played with Blacky at another festival, and we did a medley of VOIVOD songs. Snake and Away were in the crowd, and so was Piggy's family. We did like a 15-minute medley of VOIVOD's songs. I wrote an email to Away saying if he ever needed me to perform a song with them for a special event I would be very honored to do so. A couple of months later, he called me back and asked me play a show with VOIVOD. He told me Blacky was coming back as well, so I immediately agreed to do it. I'm honored to play with VOIVOD. After all, I'm playing in my favorite band.

69 Faces Of Rock: When you picked up a guitar, how influential was Piggy's playing to you?

Dan Mongrain: Actually, Piggy was a big influence for me for writing music — not as much playing, but much more about his way of thinking about writing music and composition. His writing is very progressive, it was very thrash metal in the early years, then he got very progressive. He's got that Stravinsky vibe, and KING CRIMSON, and lots of jazzy influences as well. He had keyboard chords like EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER in his writing instead of power chords. All in the upper register of the guitar. His writing was very unique and it's still very unique to this day. And Blacky's bass lines were always so complementary to Piggy's guitar, and the drums as well. It's like every piece of the puzzle that falls in the right place. It's perfect.

69 Faces Of Rock: When you stepped into Piggy's shoes, how did you adjust your playing?

Dan Mongrain: First of all, I knew the songs well. I knew all the structures, and all the ideas behind the songs. The sounds and the solos were all in my head. So, it was not really hard to learn all that. Some parts were hard to figure out as to what he was doing, but I've listened to these records a lot, so I knew the songs. My playing, in my other band, MARTYR, it's more like surgical and precise, very tight picking. Piggy was more loose and more laid back. I had to learn to play with Away because Away plays a lot more laid back, too. It's more heavier, actually, because he is sitting on the beat. I had to learn to play with the guys. After a couple of rehearsals, I felt more comfortable. It was more of a challenge to learn how to play with new musicians who knew each other very well.

As previously reported, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN frontman Greg Puciato will join SOULFLY on stage at the 14th annual "D-Low Memorial" on Saturday, August 28 at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Arizona to perform the song "Rise Of The Fallen". Other bands that are confirmed to appear at the event are INCITE, HOWITZER, 49 TIL MIDNIGHT and NORTH OF NOWHERE.

The "D-Low" show is held every year in memory of SOULFLY mainman Max Cavalera's stepson, Dana Wells, who was killed in a car accident in 1996 (article). It is one of SOULFLY's biggest shows of the year and draws fans from all over the United States. In 2004, SOULFLY filmed portions of its "The Song Remains Insane" DVD at the event.

In a recent interview with I Heart Guitar, Max stated about SOULFLY's collaboration with Puciato on "Rise of the Fallen", "That was one of the great surprises of [the latest SOULFLY album] 'Omen'. It turned out to be such a classic song, really a great, killer song, and it was done from scratch. I had the idea to invite Greg after I bumped into him at a DEFTONES concert in L.A. that we both sang with the DEFTONES, I invited him to come to the studio, and I mentioned the name of the song, 'Rise of the Fallen', and I wanted him to write original lyrics for it, and he felt really good about that. So he wrote all original verses and he helped me with the choruses. Every time I say 'rise of the fallen,' there's a Greg response to that. He was just a great guy to work with. A lot of energy, really excited about the song. He really wanted to make the best song possible. I give him a lot of credit for making 'Rise Of The Fallen' one of the most exciting songs
I've been part of in my career. It's a track that stands out from the rest, I think. Greg's ideas were really flowing."

SOULFLY recently confirmed the departure of bassist Bobby Burns. According to the band, "The split was completely amicable and there was no animosity on either side."

Johny Chow, who has played with SOULFLY's Max Cavalera (guitar, vocals) and Marc Rizzo (guitar) in CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and is a member of FIREBALL MINISTRY, is loaning his skills to SOULFLY tours for the immediate future until the position is filled.

"Omen" sold 6,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 73 on The Billboard 200 chart.

SOULFLY's previous album, "Conquer", opened with 8,400 units back in August 2008 to land at position No. 66 on The Billboard 200 chart. This number was in line with the opening tally of the CD's predecessor, "Dark Ages", which shifted a little more than 8,000 copies during its first week of release in October 2005 to enter the chart at No. 155.

Long-running U.K. glam rockers TIGERTAILZ have issued the following update:

"TIGERTAILZ are delighted to announce that Robin Guy will be joining the band on drums for the next run of shows.

"It's too soon to say whether this will become a permanent arrangement — but we wanted to give you an update on the present situation as soon as practicable.

"We held lengthy auditions with Robin over the weekend and — what can we say? — he's a force of nature, an absolutely astounding talent that will surely take our sound to a whole new level. We played songs from all the main TIGERTAILZ studio albums and despite the fact that it was hotter than a sauna in that practice room, it all sounded amazing!

"Robin's CV is breathtaking and reads like a rock n'roll who's who. He spent five years performing and recording with RACHEL STAMP, and since then has played with Bruce Dickinson, FAITH NO MORE, Dee Snider, Lars Frederiksen (RANCID), Joss Stone, Casey Chaos (AMEN) and most recently GMT (featuring Bernie Tormé and John McCoy).

"Obviously what any band wants in the long-term is stability, but with some big shows coming up very soon, an equal and immediate priority is to get ourselves not only ready but — if possible — better than we've ever been before. With Robin behind the kit, that's a very real possibility. Where it goes from there we will see — but Robin's up for it, we're up for it, so let's 'ave it!"

TIGERTAILZ made its live debut with new bassist Sarah Firebrand on April 17 at the rock club Fuel in Cardiff. The concert paid tribute to band co-founder Pepsi Tate, with all proceeds going to Amser Justin Time, the cancer charity set up in the bassist's memory.

As the U.K.'s answer to POISON and MÖTLEY CRÜE, TIGERTAILZ was the only U.K.-based band of this ilk to dominate the U.K. charts at the end of the '80s with "Bezerk" hitting the U.K. Top 40 and a U.K. Top 5 live video release filmed in their hometown Cardiff, "Bezerk Live" and "Video Frenzy". With songs that became Top 40 hits and were so catchy you couldn't stop singing them for days, "Love Bomb Baby", "Noize Level Critical", "Heaven" and "Living Without You" all became good time party anthems of a generation, and have influenced some of the contemporary acts of today.

Escape Music has set a September 24 release date for the much-anticipated new album from Tom Galley, the creator of PHENOMENA, titled "Blind Faith". The effort features guest contributions from countless renowned musicians such as:

* Mike DeMeo (RIOT, MASTERPLAN)
* Rob Moratti and Ian Crichton (SAGA)
* Tony Martin (BLACK SABBATH)
* Ralf Scheepers and Mat Sinner (PRIMAL FEAR)
* Mikael Erlandsson (SALUTE, LAST AUTUMN'S DREAMS)
* Chris Ousey (HEARTLAND)
* Steve Overland (OVERLAND, FM)
* Terry Brock (GIANT, STRANGEWAYS).

A press release states: "People should learn to expect a little awe and mystery.

"PHENOMENA takes us upon a journey where there is nothing pretty about the protagonists of the story that we shall meet along the way.

"The subject is good against evil."

The PHENOMENA story began in the year 1983 when Tom Galley wrote a couple of short stories with a transcendental background. Backed by record label Bronze, he recorded the album "Phenomena" with the help of such renowned British musicians as Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH), Cozy Powell (RAINBOW, WHITESNAKE, BLACK SABBATH), Don Airey (DEEP PURPLE) and Neil Murray (WHITESNAKE) and finally released it in 1985.

As BLABBERMOUTH.NET first reported on July 8, Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR have now confirmed that they have tapped Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw (real name: Tommie Helgesson; THERION, DREAM EVIL, KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE, MEMENTO MORI, NOTRE DAME) to replace bassist/clean vocalist ICS Vortex (real name: Simen Hestnæs) on the band's upcoming album, "Abrahadabra", and world tour.

"Yeehaw! I'm so happy and proud to be in the coolest band on the planet (since KISS [circa] 1976)," Snowy told BLABBERMOUTH.NET.

Shaw (pictured below) announced on July 7 that he was quitting his post as vocalist for Swedish progressive/experimental metallers THERION after four years, two studio albums, live DVDs and numerous tours around the world.

ICS Vortex and keyboardist Mustis (real name: Øyvind Mustaparta) were fired from DIMMU BORGIR in August 2009. The remaining members of the band issued a statement at the time downplaying the impact that ICS Vortex and Mustis' departures would have on the sound of DIMMU BORGIR's next album, insisting that "the creative force in the band is highly intact, perhaps even more so than ever."

In early June, DIMMU BORGIR announced its collaboration with Norwegian composer and Berklee College of Music summa cum laude alumnus Gaute Storaas in addition to the 51 members of KORK (the Norwegian Radio Orchestra) and the 38-member Schola Cantorum Choir. To date, over 101 musicians have contributed to the making of "Abrahadabra", which will be released in Germany on September 24, in the rest of Europe on September 27, and in North America on October 12 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Composer Gaute Storaas has said of DIMMU BORGIR: "Their music is epic, thematic and symphonic already from the creation; they are clearly having an orchestral approach to composing."

The cover artwork for "Abrahadabra" was created by Joachim Luetke (ARCH ENEMY, KREATOR, SOPOR AETERNUS), the German artist / painter / graphic designer who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Austria. Luetke's artwork and layout art also graced two other DIMMU BORGIR albums: 2003's "Death Cult Armageddon", which has sold 130,000 copies in the U.S. (according to Nielsen SoundScan) and debuted at No. 7 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart, No. 10 on the Top Independent Albums chart, and No. 170 on The Billboard 200 chart; and 2007's "In Sorte Diaboli", which has sold over 75,000 copies in the U.S. (according to Nielsen SoundScan) and debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and at No. 43 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"Gateways", the first single from "Abrahadabra", is available for purchase via iTunes.

The word "abrahadabra" (which roughly translates into "I will create as I speak") first publicly appeared in Chapter III of "Liber AL vel Legis" (commonly referred to as "The Book of the Law") written by Aleister Crowley in Cairo, Egypt in 1904.

"Abrahadabra" track listing:

01. Xibir (2:50)
02. Born Treacherous (5:02)
03. Gateways (5:10)
04. Chess With The Abyss (4:08)
05. Dimmu Borgir (5:35)
06. Ritualist (5:13)
07. The Demiurge Molecule (5:29)
08. A Jewel Traced Through Coal (5:16)
09. Renewal (4:11)
10. Endings And Continuations (5:58)

Horns Up Rocks conducted an interview with vocalist Tim Williams of reactivated Long Island, New York hardcore/metallers VISION OF DISORDER after the band's August 20, 2010 headlining performance at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City. Watch the chat below.

When asked about the progress of the songwriting sessions for VISION OF DISORDER's next studio album, Williams said, "We've been in the studio. We've been a little lackadaisical, kind of a little too laid back, and it's taken a little bit longer to get it done, but I think we really wrote some really, really special songs. I think the V.O.D. fan — that's who we are catering to; it would be cool if we picked up some new ones, but if we don't, whatever. I think we wrote some really great songs that the V.O.D. kids are really gonna dig."

On the topic of the band's recording plans, Williams said, "We're gonna go in and we're only gonna record five songs for now, 'cause we really don't feel like we're in the proper headspace to really push out a whole record, even though we have the material to do so. We wanna do five songs and then let our management properly shop the songs."

He added, "We're not looking for a big deal, but we're looking for the right deal for the band at this juncture of our career, and we don't feel like we're in the proper headspace to record 11 or 12 songs at the moment. So we're going in in about three weeks and doing five of our best fucking songs we have and we're gonna shop them out proper. Then later in the fall, probably about Christmas time, we're gonna do a string of shows.

"There's no reason why this record should not be out early next year. We just wanna record these songs so we get the right deal in place. And we already have one offer that's dope, and we'll see what happens. Hopefully we'll be recording in the winter, and then it'll be out."

Regarding the lyrical approach that he is taking with the new VISION OF DISORDER material, Williams said, "I've gotta be honest, I haven't really dug into the lyrics just yet. A lot of it has to do with where I'm at right now in my life, or maybe what I've gone through over the last couple of years, which has been a very, very trying time — cleaning up my act...

"BLOODSIMPLE [Williams' band that existed from 2002 to 2008 that released two full-length albums through Bullygoat Records, a Warner Bros. imprint founded by Chad Gray, vocalist for MUDVAYNE and HELLYEAH] was a real high wave, and that wave crashed or ended for a number of different reasons. To pull yourself out of that and get back on track takes a long time. So I've gotta really sit down and get good versions of the songs, go away for like a week, get on my motorcycle and really dig in deep.

"I know this is an important record, so it's gonna take some heart to really dig in. I'm older now, there's more distractions in life, it's hard to really write proper lyrics, but that's what I have to do — I can't just throw lyrics on a page just to say, 'Oh, I'm hard, and these are the streets now,' and tell it how it is, but I haven't gotten there yet, so I don't know how it's gonna be . . . I wanna definitely dig in deep, try and sing about some different things.

"I'm really gonna focus on a lot of the singing elements on this record, which there isn't that many, but when they do hit, they're gonna be sick. And that's what I'm looking forward to doing. I've screamed my entire life, and there'll be plenty of fucking screaming, but I really think my singing voice has evolved once again. It's gonna be cool. It's gonna be interesting."

Two early working songtitles that may or may not end up on the forthcoming VISION OF DISORDER album are "Annihilator" and "Be Up On It".

VISION OF DISORDER's show at the Gramercy Theatre marked the band's first live performance since last October when VISION OF DISORDER opened for SLIPKNOT in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

VISION OF DISORDER's last studio album, "From Bliss to Devastation", came out in 2001 via TVT Records.
Norwegian gothic metallers TRISTANIA have issued the following update:

"Last summer, Østen [Bergøy, vocals] announced that he had decided to take some time off from TRISTANIA to devote his time and attention to the new family members expected in August. A year on, it has become obvious that the time, dedication and efforts of fatherhood makes it hard to continue as a full-time member. Due to this, Østen recently informed the band that he sees no other option than to make his decision a permanent one. TRISTANIA has asked Kjetil Nordhus (HEAD DISCO, ex-GREEN CARNATION, ex-TRAIL OF TEARS), who was engaged as Østen's temporary stand-in, to replace Østen on a permanent basis, and Kjetil has accepted the offer."

Commented Østen: "I think it was about a year ago I announced that I was taking a break from TRISTANIA to be with my girlfriend and the twins she was carrying. As some of you might recall, I promised that this break was just temporarily and that I would be back within a year or so.

"I am sorry to say that I have to break my promise. I never intended to, but the time I have spent with my family has made it obvious that it is impossible for me to combine playing an active part in TRISTANIA with playing an active part in my children's life. Based on these conclusions I have decided to leave the band. It has been the best ten years of my life, a wonderful experience.

"It is hard to write this without getting sentimental. I will miss you all.

"I do not feel that I am fleeing a sinking ship — the current lineup in TRISTANIA is the strongest ever in my opinion — the new album is a killer and with Kjetil and Gyri aboard — the band seems to have the motivation for serious touring to get the music out to stages all over the world.

"I want to wish TRISTANIA the best of luck in the future.

"Thank you all for your patience and your dedication and for the good times."

TRISTANIA guitarist/harsh vocalist Anders Høyvik Hidle ahd the following to say regarding Østen's departure: "It was with a great deal of sadness I received the news from Østen when he informed us that he'd realized it was impossible for him to return to the band.

"Østen has been one of my closest friends for the last 15 years and I love him as a brother. I was the one who asked him to work with us in the first place — first as a guest and later as a full member. The years we've shared together in the band have been amazing. At the same time I admire him for being true to himself and I completely understand that it would be impossible for him to combine his role as a father for his one-year-old twins with an active role in TRISTANIA, especially considering the extensive touring and other activities we are planning with 'Rubicon'.

"Even though it's a sad thing for us to know that Østen will stay home when we're doing tours in the future, it is great news that Kjetil has accepted to become a full-time member.

"Kjetil was the first person that came to my mind when Østen first told me about his babies, and I'm really glad he accepted our offer. In my eyes he is the perfect replacement for Østen."

"I've known Kjetil for almost ten years, and he truly is a great guy. As a singer he is impressively professional."

TRISTANIA in 2007 announced the addition of Italian singer Mariangela "Mary" Demurtas to the group's ranks. Guitarist Gyri Losnegård was added to the lineup in 2008.

Chicago based multinational extreme-metal act AGAINST THE PLAGUES has commenced the songwriting process for its as-yet-untitled second album.

Commented co-founder Varyen Chylinski: "We have six songs almost finished and another two in progress. Next month we will start recording them as a pre-production material and as soon as we have them ready we will expose some of them on our website.

"We are working with new music in our practice room in Chicago and as I see after several rehearsals, new songs are much more faster and extreme than the previous album, 'Decoding The Mainframe'.

"New AGAINST THE PLAGUES material has a lot of absolutely amazing riffs and 'inhuman' blast beats which is completely new chapter for the band.

"All of our hard dying fans who were waiting for new music from our camp so long will be delighted, I guarantee that! Also we decided to invite few special guests to make this material even more unique. It will be big surprise for all of you!"

"Great Are The Eyed", the first official video from AGAINST THE PLAGUES, can be viewed below. The clip was filmed in February in Miami with directors Eduardo and Gregg Alvarez from Elephas Productions. The song comes off AGAINST THE PLAGUES' debut album, "Decoding The Mainframe", which was released in Europe on March 31 via Vic Records.

AGAINST THE PLAGUES recently parted ways with guitarist Adrian Adamus (FOREST OF IMPALED, CORPHAGY). According to the band, Adrian left AGAINST THE PLAGUES "in order to focus on his personal/family life." Scond-guitar duties in AGAINST THE PLAGUES are now being handled by Marco Martell (MALEVOLENT CREATION, DIVINE EMPIRE, KULT OF AZAZEL), who previously played bass for the group.

"Decoding The Mainframe" contains re-recorded versions of all eight songs from AGAINST THE PLAGUES' self-released CD, "Architecture of Oppression". The tracks were remastered and mixed by Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY, AEON, DISSECTION, KATATONIA, MARDUK).

Originally released in 2007, "Architecture of Oppression" was recorded at Studio One with Chris Djuricic (NOVEMBERS DOOM, NACHTMYSTIUM, GORGASM, FOREST OF IMPALED) and was mastered by Daniel Fossum at Sounds Elevator Studio in Gothenburg, Sweden.

AGAINST THE PLAGUES features in its ranks Wojtek Lisicki (LOST HORIZON, LUCIFERION) on guitar, Varyen Chylinski (DAMNATION, FOREST OF IMPALED) on drums, Orlando "Logan" Perez (VEX) on vocals and Marco Martell (MALEVOLENT CREATION, DIVINE EMPIRE, KULT OF AZAZEL) on guitar.

THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX — the Swedish band featuring Jörgen Sandström (vocals; VICIOUS ART, KRUX, ex-ENTOMBED, GRAVE), Lord K. Philipson (guitar; TORTURE DIVISION, ex-GOD AMONG INSECTS, HOUSE OF USHER, LEUKEMIA), Anders Bertilsson (guitar; COLDWORKER), Tobben Gustafsson (drums; TORTURE DIVISION, VOMITORY) and Portuguese vocalist Ms. Roque (a.k.a. Ruby Roque of WITCHBREED) — has inked a deal with Season of Mist. The band's seventh album will contain six songs with a running time of over 60 minutes and is tentatively scheduled for release in early 2011. The CD will be mixed and mastered by Swedish producer and multi-intrumentalist Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY, BLOODBATH, NIGHTINGALE).

Commented Lord K. Philipson: "Obviously there's a label in this world realizing there's some fuckin' potential in what we do, being ready to take the risk in today's illegal downloading dilemma, meaning they want to release the next album of THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX.

"The fact that there are still record companies around who try their hardest to get the best music out there absolutely astonishes me.

"To be able to do this album with a worldwide distribution, through a label who absolutely seem to know what they are doing, feels great.

"In the little time I have been in touch with the people of this label I have seen more professionalism than during my entire career. That says a lot. We can now concentrate on delivering the best damned recording we have ever done and leave the rest of the business to the record company in question.

"To be on the same roster as quality bands like MORBID ANGEL, WATAIN, MAYHEM and CYNIC feels great. And to know that this disc will see the physical light of day is exactly how we want it to be.

"We want the whole package to be more than a thing on your monitor, and hopefully a lot of you guys feel the same — meaning you will buy a real copy of it in these times of digital theft being the new black."

THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX recently parted ways with Vic Records "due to the financial situation and the complete lack of record sales for smaller record labels," according to a statement released by the band.

THE PROJECT HATE's latest album, "The Lustrate Process", was released in July 2009 via Vic Records. The CD was mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound in Örebro, Sweden. The artwork and booklet design was handled by Statik Majik.
