I got to see this musician a week ago, Larry Graham, at the Hollywood Bowl who I knew nothing about. My friend and I thought we were the wrong concert when we saw most of the audience were Africian Americans, and we were the lone "whities" of our section. However, when he started playing, our mouths dropped to the floor.
Larry went seemlessly from funk to blues to Hendrix-style rock, which I wasn't expecting. He also has a unbounded amount of energy & wears his white "Superfly" suit quite well.
Larry fronts a band called "Graham Central Station" and was the former bassist with "Sly and the Family Stone". His big hit is "One in a Million". I was told he's the founder of the "slap bass" technique.
