In preparation for the upcoming 19-20 September 2011 High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly on the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases to be held at UN Headquarters in New York, the NGO Committee on Mental Health (New York) and The NGO Forum for Health (Geneva) are releasing a joint statement regarding Mental Health and the Scope of Noncommunicable Diseases.
The statement is sponsored by both organizations, which together represent a consortium of NGOs who engage in programmatic and policy-oriented work on health-related issues, and/or recognize the importance of both health and mental health as a foundation for global well-being. Our organizations have serious concerns with regard to the absence of mental health within the scope of the noncommunicable diseases agenda.
We are requesting organizational signatures for endorsement of the attached statement which appears in English, French, and Spanish. If you are able to provide support, please send the name of your organization. All NGOs and civil society organizations can be included. If your NGO is in consultative status to ECOSOC, please indicate that as well.
The deadline for signing on to the statement is Wednesday August 31, 2011
