Lionsgate is taking back Halloween as they've locked in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D for release on October 5, 2012.

Starring genre favorite Bill Moseley, John Luessenhop will be directing the latest Leatherface offering that will be a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper's classic 1974 film. It's said to follow the lead character, Heather, who along with her friends, travel to Texas in order to collect an inheritance. The spin? Heather discovers that Leatherface is her cousin.

The secrets have been out of the bag since day one, and information from Lionsgate's Texas Chainsaw revival is leaked at every turn.

To segue you into the latest news, let's recap: John Luessenhop is directing from a screenplay by Kirsten Elms, Stephen Susco and Debra Sullivan. Luessenhop helped with the script. Genre fav Bill Moseley - who also starred in Texas Chainsaw Massacre II - landed the first lead role. And we confirmed that Lionsgate has acquired the rights to use the official title The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D (as opposed to the previously announced Leatherface 3D).

We also broke the news that the seventh incarnation is a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper's classic 1974 film that follows the lead character, Heather, who along with her friends, travel to Texas in order to collect an inheritance. It was implied that Heather would find out she's related to the infamous Leatherface.

Now, website What's Playing is reporting that they've got their blood-soaked mitts on the actual screenplay -- and I believe 'em considering they've got a reputable team behind 'em. If you're not much for spoilers, turn away this instant, otherwise read inside for a breakdown of the bizarre new legend of Leatherface....

"The new film, set today, will see the authorities and some angry townspeople ambushing the Sawyer home - where Jeb Stuart is accused of carrying out his butchering.

Hooper, the local by-the-book sheriff, had agreed to give Leatherface/Jeb Sawyer a fair trial and grant him a good lawyer…. But that's before local mayor Burt Hartman, an imposing town tough-guy, arrives with a mob to see that the murderer/s don't even make it past their front door. Though they both want justice, Hooper and Burt have different methods. Things escalate when Burt's mob start tying ropes to trees, prepping for a hanging, and ultimately throw a flaming cocktail into the Sawyer home… burning the place, and it's residents (including Jeb's father, Drayton, played by Bill Moseley), to the ground.

Goodbye Sawyers… goodbye Leatherface?

You can guess what happens next : The Chainsaw killings start up again (there's a fun sequence at a carnival where our villain starts chopping away at the attendees) and Hooper is forced to believe that Jeb Stuart somehow survived the fire and is back for revenge. But is it Jeb? And if not, who is it? and why have they surfaced?

To entice the young ones, there's a young heroine in the film, Heather who - Halloween H20 should maybe get a 'special thanks' in the credits - learns she has a disturbing connection to the murderous Sawyer. Heather's a bit of a hornbag but possibly more disturbing is her taste for things of a darker nature (not just referring to her boyfriend either) - like her art pieces which border on revolting. Still, there's good in this family member and enough intelligence and determination to find out what's really going on..

All the 3D jumps and scares are weaved into the script - the 'teeth that come flying at the audience' when Leatherface smashes one of the youngster's mouths with a meat hammer. They're fun moments but what's most impressive about the story here is that it's a really intriguing mystery movie, it's not as cut-and-dry as the previous Chainsaw movies, and will have you both thinking… and freaking."

Slasher Films, the horror movie production company formed by GUNS N' ROSES and VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash, has hired Haley Joel Osment to star in a new film called "Wake The Dead". According to Variety, the "Sixth Sense" star will play Victor Franklin, a college student experimenting with reversing death. The film is based on a graphic novel by comics writer Steve Niles, best known for 30 Days Of Night.

"My favorite type of horror movies have always been the ones with layered performances and rich characters," Slash tells Dread Central. "Haley brings a wealth of experience to a character who is already wise beyond his years. I'm really looking forward to working with him."

Niles shares Slash's enthusiasm. "I'm thrilled with the casting of Osment for Victor in 'Wake The Dead'. It's the exact kind of outside the box thinking I love."

Slash described "Wake The Dead" in a previous interview as "basically a modern, young Frankenstein story about a brilliant college student who's discovered how to animate dead tissue — but he's a teenager so he goes overboard."

Slasher Films is developing three other projects, including a movie called "Nothing To Fear", about a town that sits on the gateway to hell; "Theorem", about a mathematician who figures out the equation for evil; and "The Other Kingdom", about a hospital struck by a zombie plague.

Niles told the Los Angeles Times about working with Slash, "We want to recapture the quality of horror like they made them in the '70s, horror where you care about the characters and story."

"Wake The Dead" will be jointly produced by Slash and Rob Eric of Scout Productions. Jay Russell ("Ladder 49") will direct.
But this time the headlines have nothing to do with infighting, drugs, jail, rehab or a sex tape.
PUBLICITY PHOTO Mick Mars, Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil and Tommy Lee bring their tour to Tampa on Wednesday. Tommy Lee's 360-degree, drum kit roller coaster has been earning rave reviews. "It's amazing," Neil said. "He came up with the idea, and engineers built it. ... The crowd goes crazy for it." See a YouTube clip of Lee's drum solo attached to this story at Bradenton.com/weekend.
The hair metal heroes -- traditionally reviled by pundits -- are being lauded on a near daily basis since launching the U.S. leg of their 30th anniversary tour earlier this month.
Publications ranging from Rolling Stone to the Hollywood Reporter to the Kansas City Star are celebrating Crue's greatest hits show that has a stop scheduled at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa on Wednesday.
"We usually don't get good feedback from critics but this one is hard for even our worst critics to say that anything's wrong," Neil said during a recent phone interview. "Everybody is at the top of his game and playing amazing."
Motley Crue's wild ride to rock stardom accelerated with the release of the 1982 single "Live Wire." Nearly three decades of decadence later, Neil still vividly recalls the first time he heard the song playing on the radio. He was driving to his home on Redondo Beach from the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles.
"I just stopped the car," Neil said. "I wanted to yell and tell someone but nobody was there."
Crue's career enjoyed another huge boost at the US Festival over Memorial Day weekend in 1983. The event featured four days of music, with each dedicated to a separate genre: new wave, heavy metal, rock and country. More than 650,000 people reportedly attended the festival held in the sizzling interior of Southern California. Crue -- wearing more makeup than your average groupie -- went on after Quiet Riot and before Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions and headliner Van Halen.
"We were doing songs from 'Shout at the Devil'," Neil said of the album that wouldn't be released until months later. "'Heavy Metal Day' was the biggest with 360,000 people there. We went on second and people loved us. For a young band to play to that many people, that was a big day for us."
When "Shout at the Devil" finally dropped in September it established Motley Crue as one of the most entertainingly sleazy bands on the planet. In addition to the classic title track, the album also produced the hits "Looks that Kill" and "Too Young to Fall in Love."
"Theatre of Pain" came out two years later, and for the first time Motley Crue had an album in the Top 10. The hard-living Hollywood musicians' cover of the 1973 Brownsville Station song "Smokin' in the Boys Room" gave them their first Top 40 single. "Home Sweet Home," which Neil wrote with band mates Tommy Lee (piano/drums) and Nikki Sixx (bass/vocals), featured a video that became ubiquitous on MTV.
"In South America, where we started this tour, Tommy started playing the opening piano part and by the time I sang 'I'm a dreamer' the whole place started singing along," Neil said with a laugh of disbelief. "It was hard to sing with all them singing."
People! Mötley Crüe will be hosting a night of decadence with Poison and the New York Dolls in our general area on July 5 -- Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, if your brain needed further rattling.

We already dished a load of rocker (and emerging photo lecturer) Nikki Sixx's impressive workaholic credentials in this Q&A that appreared in this week's print edition. But that's not all we got. The endlessly quotable Sixx had a few more stories to share with us, including one about how fucking awesome Cee-Lo is, that we couldn't fit.

You recently released a new album, This Is Gonna Hurt, with your other band, hard rockers Sixx:A.M. What do you have to do to get back into the Crüe mindset?

They don't really have anything to do with each other, so I don't think it's definitely a mindset; I think it's just that you're a musician, you make music. It's about the chemistry of people you're with, so if I sit down with three guys and a rap guy in a room, we're going to come up with some crazy combination of music because we all come from different backgrounds. If I sit down with James and DJ, it sounds like Sixx:A.M. When I'm with Mick, Tommy, and Vince, it sounds like Mötley Crüe. That's just the nature of the beast. It's a beautiful thing too. You can just let it be real; you don't have to force it.

What is the most mind-blowing thing you've seen while touring with Mötley Crüe?

The whole thing's been mind-blowing. The whole experience. You can only imagine being teenagers and young adults and doing the things that we've done and whether it's jail or drug overdoses, marriages, divorces, kids, tens or tens of millions of seats in arenas sold out around the world in every country that you can name. And we're still going strong, and we're still the original four members. For me, that's mind-blowing. We stand on stage at night; us four have seen more than you will ever know. There's not enough paper out there to tell the stories that we've seen, and to me, that's a blessing.

Crüe was honored this year with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Revolver magazine, and you will be honored with another one (in August) at the SunsetStrip Music Festival. Since Crüe has always been anti-establishment, how does it feel to get recognition from the industry?

It's nice, you know. I don't really pay much attention to it. It's nice to get them. It's not really as big for me; what's big is the show, the fans, the output of energy. I've never heard a guy get a Grammy and say, I don't accept this Grammy, goddamn it. Fuck, man, we work our asses off, but in the end it doesn't really matter. We're still together.

Since you've been thinking about your life and legacy lately, what do people misinterpret most about you these days?

I got this thing where what other people think about me isn't my business, so I don't really know what other people think about me. I try to be really kind, generous, and giving and give 100 percent, but I'm also the first one to stand up and fight for what I believe in. So in the end, I imagine I have as many friends as I do enemies, but I don't really know. I don't keep a compliment very well, I can tell you that.

For your current tour, Tommy Lee is using his 360 drum riser again. It looks dangerous. Has he ever had any close calls with it?

Not yet. When we were in preproduction, he had the brace and harness, working on the solo, and he was upside down, and then he came down. He said, "Oh, by the way, the harness thing isn't tight enough, and I almost slipped out of this thing." His tech was like, "Really? Is there something wrong with you? Like most people would be like freaking out." He's like, "Why?" And he goes, "'Cause you would DIE!" Tommy's like, "No, dude, it's OK." [laughs] Tommy loves danger.

I wanted to ask about your collaboration with Cee-Lo for with the mashup of "Girl Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)" and "Fuck You."

It's funny, cause I was at an event, and there were these kids, and they were playing in a band, they were playing [sings] "Girl, don't go away mad..." and was like, no way, and I looked at my girlfriend, and I was like, this is one of our songs. And then they started doing the Cee-Lo thing, and I was like, "Oh, my God, it's the same exact chords." Then Tommy, in minutes, texted me: "Dude, wouldn't it be great if we mashed up 'Forget You' and 'Don't Go Away Mad' live?" And I go, "Dude, I'm sitting in this place and just heard someone play it," and so, we went to rehearsal, and we dropped it in after a second chorus, and we just started playing it live that way. And Tommy had run into Cee-Lo and hit him up and said, "Hey dude, do you want to go to the Hollywood Bowl?" He's a huge Mötley Crüe fan. So he came down and did it on stage with us -- it was really a blast. He's a nice dude. Supertalented. You've got some talent out there, on the top level. For
me, Lady Gaga is like Madonna on steroids and Elton John with boobs and high heels -- but Elton John actually did high heels too -- but to me, it's like superfuckingtalented, pushing the envelope. Cee-Lo at the Grammys, he came out in that like freaky feathered outfit, and he had Gwyneth Paltrow singing with him; he's like pushing it Gnarls Barkley, and I'm like, come on dude, we need some fucking rock bands that are doing that too. You know?

On July 27th a legendary band from Los Angeles Megadeth will entertain the heavy metal fans at a Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival in Holmdel, NJ. Here is what the band's lead guitarist Chris Broderick had to say about his tale with Megadeth, Mayhem and another tour: the Big 4, which will feature perhaps the best ever line up in heavy metal history.

Let's go back in time to 1983. Dave Mustaine leaves Metallica and - with Dave Ellefson - forms Megadeth. What was Chris Broderick doing back then?

CB: Well I was 13 and I was probably in my bedroom with my guitar, practicing. I was just getting introduced to that whole music scene and to be honest I was not into anything else at that age.

What did you listen to as a kid? Did you dream about being in a band?

CB: It all started with Van Halen and then other shredder guys: Rhoads and Steve Vai. Of course at that time I was definitely in that mindset of dreaming about being one of them.

And your dream came true! You are in Megadeth! In 2008 you replaced Glen Drover and funny enough you were brought in by his brother Shawn. How did that happen?

CB: I know, right? I couldn't've asked for a better recommendation (laughter). But to be quite honest Glen had some saying in it too. As soon as Glen made his decision about leaving they both had a series of discussions on who could do the job. They considered a bunch of guys, but it were my youtube clips that convinced them (laughter). So I think at the end they both recommended me and here I am. Thanks to the internet and technology (laughter).

Dave Mustaine once said that when he partnered up with you, it reminded him of when "Ozzy Osbourne met Randy Rhoads". He also called you "the best Megadeth guitarist ever". Do you agree?

CB: I don't know, that's a big statement. I'm very glad and grateful that Dave thinks about me that way. It's very humbling, but trying to assess who's the best is like apples and oranges. It's all about personal preferences.

On February 8, 2010, David Ellefson rejoined the band, replacing James LoMenzo – how is it to have him back?

CB: It's awesome! There is this great camaraderie between him and Mustaine. To see them interact with each other is just amazing. It's also a great privilage to play with such a big metal icon. He really is a great player and a good guy. We have a good time together on and off the stage.

This summer you will be performing on a Main Stage of Mayhem festival with Disturbed, Godsmack, Trivium – have you played with these bands before?

CB: I have toured with Disturbed back in 2006 on a European tour. I was with Nevermore at that time and we were opening up for them and they were really gracious. They're such a cool band and good guys.

With Mayhem you will be on the road for 35-days. Are you looking forward to it? What can fans expect from you?

CB: It is going to be a long trip, but we are ready for it. Each day we will try to give our fans our best, so they can expect the same level of insanity. We will be at our best.

Will fans have a chance to meet and greet you?

CB: There definitely will be some daily autograph sessions, but - as usually - they are organized by a 3rd party, such as our fan club, so I really don't know too many details about it.

Before Mayhem you will be in Europe making history with the Big 4 tour. Which number - according to you - is Megadeth?

CB: Among the Big 4? Well, the line up goes like this: Anthrax, us and then Slayer and Metallica. So it's about right.

The historic tour will also come to the US and rock the Yankee Stadium. Why only one show?

CB: It's not the only US show. We've played in Indio back in April. California was awesome: 55000 fans and just incredible energy. As far as September schedule goes - from what I've heard there is some talk about more shows, but I am not involved with any of these. My job is to be ready to play anywhere, anytime.

Anthrax's Scott Ian said that in New York you all will come out and do a part of "Am I Evil?" together. Any more special treats?

CB: Not that I know of. If there will be something special I would think it's gonna be an improv, a last minute, spontaneous thing. Plus if it is to be a surprise it'd better remain a secret, right? It should not be something that you would expect to happen.

What is your favorite band/album or song out of the Big 4?

CB: Obviously Metallica's Master of Puppets. This song is awesome and this whole album has just so many great songs. When it first came out I could really relate to it. And now - when I listen to it - I go back and forth to that point in time when I was I growing up. It really made an impact on me.

Your best and worst memory with Megadeth.

CB: Let's start with the best. I would have to say that it was that big show in Sofia, Bulgaria. The crowd there was great, plus they had all those cameras, lights. The energy was very intense and the experience was truly exhilarating. Also in Warsaw, Poland we played in front of the biggest crowd you can dream of. Both of these shows were just insane.

And the worst one?

CB: Tough to say, but last year I had that falling-on-stage spree: within a month I must've fallen at least 5-6 times during the show. I remember that one time in Oregon I tried to step over that lightning rig to get as close to the fans as possible, when I caught it with my heel, slipped and fell backwards. Landed on my head and it was damn painful. But I had to regain composure and keep on playing. I am sure it looked funny, but my head and neck hurt as hell.

It's been almost two years since you came out with your 12th album Endgame. Rumor has it that you're working on a new one. What is it going to be like? Will it be the best ever for Megadeth?

CB: It's true that we've been working on #13. Writing is almost all done, we are actually getting really close to finishing it. Will it be the best ever? I think so. The thing about the composing is that when you are working on it you are part of it. You almost have to "become" music that you create. You also have to believe in what you write and that it will be the best ever. Your music also matures with you over time, so I believe that each new album becomes the best one. And I am not being biased here.

You're holding a record for most Grammy Awards nominations in the Best Metal Performance category without a win. Metallica grabbed that award 6 times. Do you feel cheated?

CB: (laughter) No, not really. We would win it next time, but unfortunately they discontinued this category (laughter). But to be honest with you I don't really know who makes this award decision and I have no idea, if they truly represent views of the listeners. We know that people appreciate us and being nominated 9 times speaks for itself and cannot be depreciated.

Do you prefer touring over recording?

CB: What I prefer most is composing music, then touring, then recording. Recording is my least favorite because you have to deal with tight deadlines and it's all about getting things done. There is not so much creative thinking involved as it is when you're composing. I like to "live" with the music and I think about new stuff all the time.

How different is touring in Europe/rest of the world in comparison to the US shows?

CB: It depends, to me all shows are different. I think that in Europe - or other places outside of the US for that matter - they appreciate it more, because they get less exposure to big live music shows. We don't go there every year, sometimes it takes years before we go back there, hence they are more "starved". But it's also very personal. It's never for me to have an expectation of the crowd, because I know that some people go to see the show to listen to the music, others to go crazy in the mosh-pit or smoke a joint or jump off the stage. They are there for various reasons and their reactions are different.

Your band was always known for problems with drugs/alcohol, but you – on the other hand – have always taken good care of yourself. Do you still party hard or have you convinced the other guys to join the gym?

CB: (laughter) No, we don't party anymore. When we are on the tour we will go to a social event or hang out with other bands, but it's not like cracking the bottle open and tilt it down till it's empty. We are not youngsters anymore, so we know, that if we want to give our best night in and night out we need to take care of ourselves. We know that once we get off the stage we need to recover for the next show. And we all do it according to our own needs. I see my guys in the gym every once in a while, but everyone has their own regiment.

You're 41-years young and at that age you are the youngest member of the band – do they make you do stuff because of that?

CB: Not at all! They don't haze or harass me, don't use me to fetch something over, nothing like that. But even though I like the way you've phrased it, that I am 41-years "young" it's not like I am leaps and bounds behind them.

Before Megadeth you were with Jag Panzer and Nevermore – do you miss those bands?

CB: Of course I miss those guys and try to stay in touch with them. It's like with any good friend that you know is there, but you just cannot maintain a good, stable contact for whatever reason.

What is different about being with them and Megadeth?

CB: The difference obviously is huge. When I was with them it was more relaxed and no so much hyped. Now with Megadeth the stage and pressure are bigger. It's a lot to be content with although being under the microscope at all times can be tiring.

So you like being a Rockstar?

CB: (laughter) I don't know if I will ever be or feel like a "Rockstar", but on occasion I will certainly try to act like one.

I saw a video of you in a bowling alley and another one with you waterskiing. You also visit the gym religiously and are very athletic. Do you have any favorite sport/team/player?

CB: Before I would follow some sports, but I would really get into it. It would make me very angry if my team was losing, so I asked myself: why get so upset and emotionally involved over something like that? And now I really don't have the time for it. I watch hockey, since I am from Colorado and X-games, since I am into snowboarding and water skiing. But it's all in passing – when see it on TV I will watch it.

You mentioned "emotional involvement", which brings me to my last question: what about family? You haven't met that special someone yet?

CB: No, that's not it. I am just too busy at the moment. I am that kind of a person, that if I were to have a family I would totally devote myself to it. And I would not be able to tour. At this time I am focused on the band. That's the only thing that counts and I have going right now.
ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian graces the cover of the August issue of Decibel magazine. For the magazine's first gatefold in five years, the editors enlisted the talents of "Henry & Glenn Forever" co-creator Tom Neely to (literally) illustrate the flourishing bond between extreme music and extreme underground comics. As the movement's best-known face — and certainly metal's best-known chin — Scott discusses his work for DC Comics, his take on the current graphic arts scene, and how it all fits together with ANTHRAX and metal in general.

The issue, on newsstands now, is also available for direct purchase at

"Worship Music", the long-awaited new album from ANTHRAX, is due in the U.S. on September 13 via Megaforce Records (one day earlier in Europe through Nuclear Blast Records). The band's first studio release in eight years marks the return of vocalist Joey Belladonna, whose last studio work with the group was 1990's "Persistence Of Time".

SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser will fill in for Scott Ian at 11 ANTHRAX shows in July while Ian spends time with his family following the birth of his first child.

The first shows that Scott will play with ANTHRAX after his "paternity leave" will be the July 23 Heavy T.O. festival in Toronto, Ontario and July 24 Heavy MTL festival in Montreal, Quebec (both in Canada).

According to The Pulse Of Radio, PEARL JAM singer Eddie Vedder, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE frontman Josh Homme and members of the STROKES have collaborated on a track that will be included in a benefit album for homeless youth. The song will appear on a three-CD compilation called "Live From Nowhere Near You, Vol II", which arrives on July 19. The package will feature unreleased, new and rare tracks from dozens of alternative musicians and bands. Among those are a cover of Marvin Gaye's "Mercy Mercy Me", featuring Homme, Vedder, STROKES drummer Fabrizio Moretti and vocalist Julian Casablancas.

The song is not actually new, but was only available previously as the B-side to the rare STROKES single "You Only Live Once".

The set will also contain rare or previously unheard tunes from MODEST MOUSE, PEARL JAM guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, THE SHINS, WILCO's Jeff Tweedy and many more.

In keeping with the album's theme, much of the music was recorded in donated spaces, on the street, in alleyways and under bridges.

All profits from the album, which is available for $15 through Greyday Records, will be donated to Outside In, a non-profit organization in Portland, Oregon that provides aid and counseling to homeless youth.
George Lynch, the man who wielded the axe for Dokken and now fronts his own bands Lynch Mob and Souls of We, likes to tinker.
At age 10, he remodeled his first electric guitar with a hack saw and "swapped the terrible pickups with new crappy pickups." When he wanted a wall of amplifiers, he took the speakers out of his old amps and built new cabinets and put the speakers in those.
"I kept the old cabinets and stacked them on top of each other to make it look like I had a bunch of amps," he said. "I would make these cabinets 6 feet tall, so they would look impressive, but they would only have one speaker in them. I made them out of Masonite and fiberglass and covered them with green shag carpet. Since I didn't know what I was doing, the new cabinets sounded horrible."
A few years ago, he started his own guitar manufacturing company, Mr. Scary Guitars (www.mrscaryguitars.com), named after an instrumental jam on Dokken's 1987 album Back for the Attack.
In fact, when Guitar World called Lynch to talk about his new solo album, Kill All Control, which will be released July 19, he was at a computer salvage yard in Los Angeles.
"They have everything from amplifier tubes to torpedoes," he said. "If there was an earthquake, you'd be buried under all the crap because they have stacks of junk that are 30 feet in the air."
What do you do at salvage yards?
I come here to scavenge for parts for guitar and amplifiers and what not.
How did your interests in tinkering and guitars come together?
My dad was an audiophile appreciator, and he had a lot of old stereo equipment when stereo first happene. We had all this reel-to-reel and headphone equipment and he'd make us sit there and listen to all this music. A lot of it was classical and flamenco guitars, jazz guitar, which got me interested initially. Also, being there when Beatlemania occurred didn't hurt either. My name was George and the guitar player in the Beatles was named George, so I put two and two together.
A few years after I started playing guitar, the Four Horsemen — Hendrix, Page, Clapton and Beck — came along. I learned to play their records by plugging my guitar into an old console stereo. I would plug my guitar into the headphone input, which distorted the signal and forced it out of the speaker. That eventually killed the circuitry, but that was my first amplifier.
When did you start building guitars for people other than yourself?
I used to assemble guitars for a lot of my students to supplement my income while I was teaching in various places. One of the people I worked for was Delores Rhodes, Randy Rhodes' mother, for a while. Randy got the Ozzy gig, but I got his teaching job. I would get $5 to $10 an hour, but I had kids to support, so I would build guitars for my students to supplement my teaching income.
In fact, Brent Woods, who plays with Jason Bonham's band, was a student of mine. I met up with him recently and he still has the guitar I built for him for $350.
The big news for you is the release of your new solo album, Kill All Control, on July 19.
The album is actually released as Souls of We in Japan, but as George Lynch everywhere else in the world. It started as a follow-up to the follow-up to the last Souls of We album, Let the Truth Be Known. The lineup started off with London LeGrand (Brides of Destruction), myself, Adrian Ost (drummer for Powerman 5,000) and Nic Speck (from Run Run Run) on bass. We went in as a band and our intention was to write and record a record in a month. We went in and wrote furiously and wrote the record in 10 days.
The album features different lead singers. What happened?
We went into the studio to record, and I ran into that "singer" wall. London is my friend and I love him, but a voice is not like a guitar. It's not a mechanical instrument, and singers are a different animal. Things just didn't work out and I had to look elsewhere for someone to complete the record, which took almost two years to finish. Had I known that retrospectively, I would have taken more time writing the music. [Laughs].
Did the different lead singers dictate how the music was presented?
I have an idea in my head of what melodies I would put in there if I could sing. I've hardly ever written with a singer and let them guide the ship. It's always been getting the song's instrumentals done first and then adding the vocals. We brought in Will Marten from Earshot and Keith St. John, who works with Montrose, and Mark Torien from the Bullet Boys.
When were London's vocals recorded?
London came back at the very end. I told him that he needed to be on the album, and we did a song that we worked on initially in his apartment. It's the lead track called "Wicked Witch," and he did a beautiful job. Honestly, and I hate to say it, it made me cry. He'd been through a lot and it came out in his vocals.
I think the best songs are the ones written from a personal place and a personal experience. Maybe it had that effect on me because I know him so well and I love him as a brother. He's a dear friend, and it's a beautiful song. I'm very proud to work with him on it.
George Lynch's new solo album, Kill All Control, will be released July 19 on Rocket Science Records. For more info, visit georgelynch.com.

Former MANOWAR guitarist David "The Shred Demon" Shankle has joined HOUSE OF HOLLAND, the band led by vocalist Tommy Holland.

Tommy first landed the job as the frontman/lead singer of STEPPENWOLF, early in his early career, following the departure of John Kay. In 1984 in Chicago, after fronting STEPPENWOLF and THE BZZ, in which he played with future W.A.S.P. and L.A. GUNS drummer Steve Riley, Tommy formed the band HOLLAND. HOLLAND spawned the career of internationally acclaimed guitar virtuoso Michal Angelo Batio. In 1985 HOLLAND signed with Atlantic Records and released "Little Monsters" with hits such as "Wake Up The Neighborhood" and "Gotta Run".

Drummer Bobby Fields grew up playing bass guitar with scattered bands around the Madison, Wisconsin scene. Discouraged by years of various projects that lacked any real chemistry, he took a 10-year "break" from the live music scene. While on hiatus, Bobby grew an affinity for tinkering around on the drums, an interest which soon grew into a passion and desire to get back into live performing. Driven by a new hunger, a new attitude, and a new role, Bobby came to Chicago to play drums with one of Chicago's most legendary frontmen, Tommy Holland.

You might say bassist Drew Lawrence was born to play music. His father taught at Eastman school of music in New York so he was exposed to it at a very early age. In his own words, "I just thought that's what you did when you grew up." The apple didn't fall far from the tree and by age 11 he was playing and singing his own compositions on the "Easter Seals" telethon and at 18 was playing the Chicago circuit with Joe Rayfield. Over the years he has played and recorded with many outstanding musicians, some of the most notable being Buddy Miles (JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE), Phil Collen (DEF LEPPARD) and Gary Putnam (DREAD ZEPPELIN).

Guitar virtuoso and master instructor Shankle is one of the most respected and talented composer guitarists shredding up the metal scene today. He is well known for playing seven-string over-the-neck scales, arpeggios and string skipping, along with being a master of many other guitar techniques. David was a member of MANOWAR from 1988 to 1994, playing on the epic album "The Triumph Of Steel" and co-writing "Master Of The Wind", "The Burning", "Ride the Dragon" and "Demon's Whip". David left in 1994, after countless sold-out tours all over the world, and attended Roosevelt Music University in Chicago to improve his jazz and classical guitar skills. David's signature over the neck style guitar playing can be seen on many videos, including "Ashes To Ashes" and the 2005 MANOWAR "Earthshaker Fest" DVD. Now having refined and nearly perfected his craft, David brings decades of experience and hard work to the table with HOUSE OF HOLLAND.
After over a year off of the road writing and recording the band's newest full-length release, "Unto The Locust", San Francisco Bay Area metallers MACHINE HEAD will start their tour cycle with two dates leading into the summer's hottest tour, the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. The band will play on July 5 at Club Vegas in Salt Lake City, Utah and on July 7 at The Knitting Factory in Reno, Nevada. These dates will mark the first time the band has taken the stage since March of last year after a relentless three years of touring for the critically acclaimed album "The Blackening". The Salt Lake City and Reno shows will be the only two MACHINE HEAD U.S. headline dates in 2011 and will both feature the band in an intimate setting, facilitating the kind of close connection with their fans that ignites the crushing live performances that so many of the group's die-hard fans have come to expect.

"Unto The Locust" will be made available in late September via MACHINE HEAD's longtime label Roadrunner Records. The CD was recorded at JingleTown Studios in Oakland, with frontman Robb Flynn producing, and it is sure to level anything and everything that happens upon its path. Flynn stated about the new album in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, "I think we've really taken our music to the next level with this. We feel super-excited about it. I started taking some singing lessons with the guy who worked with Mick Jagger and Lady Gaga. And then I took some classical guitar. I wanted to feel like a beginner again and not be comfortable and see what that brought out. There's definitely a big neoclassical vibe on the record between all the brutality."

Metal Hammer magazine will release "Unto The Locust" in the U.K. with a special-edition fan pack. Complete with 132–page special issue with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the making of the new album, extensive interviews with every member, never-before-seen historic shots from the band's personal collections, a guide to their custom rigs, and a diary of their massive Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tour happening this summer, this is the ultimate companion to the long-awaited follow-up to "The Blackening", Metal Hammer's "album of the decade." And that's not all. This exclusive fan pack also includes a 100% official patch, sticker sheet and poster. This is your chance to be part of MACHINE HEAD history!

Pre-order your copy of "Unto The Locust" at this location.

MACHINE HEAD will embark on a European headlining tour, dubbed "The Eighth Plague", in the fall. Support on the trek will come from BRING ME THE HORIZON, DEVILDRIVER and DARKEST HOUR.

"Iconoclast", the ninth studio album from North America's progressive metal masterminds SYMPHONY X, has registered the following first-week chart positions so far:

Germany: #25
Switzerland: #29
Austria: #42
USA: #76
Japan: #76
Japan (overseas chart): #19
Canada: #105
U.K.: #167

"Iconoclast" sold more than 7,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release.

SYMPHONY X's previous CD, "Paradise Lost", opened with around 6,500 copies back in July 2007.

"Iconoclast" was released in Europe on June 17 and in North America on June 21 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Illustrator and film concept artist Warren Flanagan ("Watchmen", "The Incredible Hulk", "2012") is the talent behind the album artwork. He states, "The idea was to create imagery that was a little darker in tone to previous SYMPHONY X albums and to represent the overall theme of 'Iconoclast' into the artwork. The whole concept came from [SYMPHONY X guitarist] Mike [Romeo], who had a strong idea of what the cover should represent based off the music. I just ran with it. When the album's title was decided on, I focused the image based on the meaning of it. I also wanted to use the band's signature 'masks' but present them in a way that connected to the new album."

SYMPHONY X founder and lead guitarist Michael Romeo has the following to say about Flanagan's art: "We worked with Warren on the last CD, 'Paradise Lost', and have a good relationship with him. When I talk to Warren about artwork ideas, a lot of times we end up making comparisons to films and movies. With the new CD, 'Iconoclast', the music and lyrics have a darker mechanical/technological theme, and I remember us talking about scenes from films like 'The Matrix' and 'Terminator'. From there, we sent him some songtitles and lyrics (songs like 'Dehumanized', 'Bastards Of The Machine', 'Electric Messiah') and just let Warren run with the ball. He has a great imagination and style, and he totally gets what we are trying to convey with the music."

The track listing for the jewel-cased version of "Iconoclast" is:

01. Iconoclast
02. The End Of Innocence
03. Dehumanized
04. Bastards Of The Machine

Frontiers Records is excited to present a new and interesting musical project called TRILLIUM which features the talents of the American singer and songwriter Amanda Somerville.

Mostly known for her catalogue of projects, studio work, guest appearances and live shows garnered to date with bands like AVANTASIA, KAMELOT and EPICA, her most recent endeavors include touring with renowned artist Ian Gillan (DEEP PURPLE) and a duet album entitled KISKE-SOMERVILLE with metal legend Michael Kiske (HELLOWEEN).

TRILLIUM is, however, something new, exciting and very diverse for Amanda, who describes it "more like an expedition with my musical family to explore and celebrate the metamorphosis I've gone through as an artist over the past several years. Quite simply, it's my new baby."

The TRILLIUM name came about since it "symbolizes a trinity because things are always showing up in 3s in my environment and there are a number of triads occurring in this project, as well," says Amanda. "The name of the album, 'Alloy', is symbolic and metaphorical. An alloy is a substance composed of two or more metals, or of a metal or metals combined with a nonmetal, intimately mixed. It also means standard; quality; fineness and is an admixture, as of good with evil. I'm a Pisces, so I'm all about duality and combining known elements — sometimes opposing each other - to create something different. Though I've been working myself further and further into the metal scene, I still always feel the need to add an extra element to make it shine, bling, stand out."

Musically, TRILLIUM is going to be a hybrid of rock and metal: it's riffy, has a heavy hand instrumentally and is quite different from anything Amanda has worked on so far. The creative team on the album includes the acclaimed Sascha Paeth and Miro (KAMELOT, AVANTASIA, EPICA, AFTER FOREVER, ANGRA, etc.) on production, songwriting and performances with the participation of Sander Gommans (ex-AFTER FOREVER) and also features Jorn Lande (MASTERPLAN) on a very special duet with Amanda.

Amanda's sound is eclectic yet particular, sweet yet raw and commercial yet conventionally-challenged. Singer-songwriter metal with bling. Think Annie Lennox, Doro, Rob Zombie and Sade thrown into a blender and whipped into a frothy concoction.

"Alloy" will be released worldwide in the fall.
British thrashers ONSLAUGHT will team up with Irish maniacs GAMA BOMB for a U.K. tour in September/October. Support on the trek will come from FALLEN FATE.

"However you think of it, it's gonna be an historic tour — a barrage of the finest British and Irish thrash," says ONSLAUGHT vocalist Sy Keeler.

"We think it's great that we'll finally get to tour with these guys," adds GAMA BOMB frontman Philly Byrne. "It'll be like when people take their old and infirm family members on holiday, but a metal holiday."

The dates are as follows:

Sep. 22 - Maidstone, UK - Babylon Lounge
Sep. 23 - London, UK - Garage
Sep. 24 - Derby, UK - Redemption
Sep. 25 - Plymouth, UK - White Rabbit
Sep. 26 - Liverpool, UK - Masque
Sep. 27 - Newcastle, UK - Legends
Sep. 28 - Edinburgh, UK - Studio24
Sep. 29 - Belfast, Ireland - Spring & Airbreak
Sep. 30 - Cork, Ireland - An Cruiscin Lan
Oct. 01 - Dublin, Ireland - The Pint (ONSLAUGHT only)

ONSLAUGHT has recruited Michael Hourihan (EXTREME NOISE TERROR, DESECRATION) to play the drums following the recent departure of Steve Grice.

ONSLAUGHT's fifth album, "Sounds Of Violence", was released in January via AFM Records. The follow-up to 2007's "Killing Peace" was recorded and mixed at Hansen Studio in Ribe, Denmark with acclaimed Danish producer Jacob Hansen (RAUNCHY, MERCENARY, VOLBEAT, HEAVEN SHALL BURN).
CADAVERIA, the Italian band featuring former OPERA IX vocalist Cadaveria and ex-OPERA IX drummer/NECRODEATH vocalist Marçelo Santos (a.k.a. Flegias), has issued the following update:

"It's time to break the silence and answer all the fans who have asked about CADAVERIA developments and next release during the last months.

"Well, we can say the new album is almost done! We are finishing the mix and refining the last tracks and, during the next week, we will begin working on the mastering.

"The album will contain 11 new songs and is still untitled.

"The entire process took quite a long time, but it has been worth it. The sound is macabre and it exudes a primordial magic, the tracks fed on anguish and darkness; cries, tragic prophecies and obscure visions echo in the lyrics. We are absolutely excited about it, but we know there are already many things to do, before going on stage again.

"We are totally focused on this project and on the following steps: we will set the artwork very soon and we are going to shoot a video before the album release.

"Due to all these reasons, it is now early to talk about an official release date for CADAVERIA fourth full-length. However, we can assume it could be in stores before the end of this year.

"We will come back to you when we get any substantial news to share. In the meanwhile we have produced this short video [see below] that captures some moments of the composition and of the recording phases."

CADAVERIA's latest album, "In Your Blood", was released in May 2007 via Season Of Mist.

Norwegian blackened punk metallers KVELERTAK were the support act for the FOO FIGHTERS in front of 22,000 people last Friday, June 24 at the Telenor Arena in Oslo, Norway.

After the show, Indie Recordings and Dave Grohl surprised KVELERTAK by presenting them with the Norwegian gold record for sales in excess of 15,000 copies of the band's self-titled debut album.

Commented KVELERTAK vocalist Erlend: "When we met living legend Dave Grohl, we knew nothing. We were walking around with a huge package we thought we were going to give Dave Grohl. We thought it was the world's biggest chocolate. So when he suddenly told us to open the package, you can imagine our faces when it turned out to be a gold record! That's two things we never thought would happen right there!"

KVELERTAK's self-titled debut album, was released June 21, 2010 via Indie Recordings and continues to receive rave reviews from mainstream media and metal web sites alike for its unique TURBONEGRO/black metal/punk/classic rock/blues elements. Produced by Kurt Ballou and mixed by Alan Douches with artwork by John Baizley and guest appearances by Hoest (TAAKE), Andreas Tylden (JR Ewing and ALTAAR), Ivar Nikolaisen (SILVER), and Ryan McKenney (TRAP THEM), "Kvelertak" has been dubbed "the best Norwegian debut album of all time," and the band "the new MASTODON."

"Kvelertak" received a North American release on March 15 via The End Records. The North American edition includes six bonus tracks: live recordings of the songs "Fossegrim", "Sjøhyenar (Havets Herrer)", "Blodtørst" and "Mjød" from the BBC Sessions last year, as well as demo versions of "Ordsmedar av Rang" and "Utrydd Dei Svake".

KVELERTAK was honored in the "Best Newcomer" and "Best Rock" categories at the 39th annual Spellemann awards (the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammy Awards). The largest and oldest Norwegian music awards show was held on March 5 at the Spektrum in Oslo, Norway and was broadcast live on the Norwegian channel TV2.

In February KVELERTAK won the Statoil grant and 1,000,000 NOK (approximately $180,000). The Statoil grant is a prize which helps promising Norwegian bands on the verge of international breakthrough to succeed internationally.

KVELERTAK shamelessly draws inspiration from every corner of anything that fits into its idea of hard-hitting, catchy, extreme rock 'n' roll regardless of genre, always truthful to the basic idea of the band: good songs performed with the tongue-in-cheek attitude of their punk-rock pioneers. Unlike the majority of heavier bands, they sing in their native language, adding yet more character to their already unique sound.

It's a classic story: A bunch of good friends decide to create a band. It turns out to be a very good band, and from the start of 2007 things have been on fast forward for these young lads from the west coast of Norway. National radio airplay and stunning live performances have taken them to some of the biggest festivals in the country including the infamous Roskilde festival in 2009, where they performed in front of 80,000 crazy fans. Astonishing for a (then) unsigned act with a few demos.
EX DEO — the Ancient Roman-themed arsenal led by KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono — will enter JFD studios in Dallas, Texas and Montreal, Canada in the fall with producer Jean-François Dagenais (KATAKLYSM, MALEVOLENT CREATION, MISERY INDEX, DESPISED ICON) to begin recording its sophomore album, "Caligula", for an early 2012 release via Austria's Napalm Records. According to the band, the CD will feature "the most intense 'epic metal soundtrack' to come out in recent history."

Commented Iacono: "The album will once again have the honor of some elite guest appearances. The band promises an album that will shake the metal scene!"

The artwork and layout for "Caligula" will be handled by classic artist Seth (SEPTICFLESH). Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "I, Caligula", "Burned to Serve the Nocturnal Light", "In War & Conquest/Roma Caput Mundi" and "Teutoburg (The Ambush of Varus) - Part 1".

EX DEO last year completed a North American tour with NILE, PSYCROPTIC and KEEP OF KALESSIN.

"The Final War (Battle Of Actium)", the latest video from EX DEO, can be viewed below. The clip was helmed by renowned director Ivan Colic and producer Stanimir "Staca" Lukic (MOONSPELL, KAMELOT, DEATHSTARS, TYPE O NEGATIVE) in Belgrade, Serbia.

"Romulus", the debut album from EX DEO, landed at position No. 90 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Released in June 2009 via Nuclear Blast Records, "Romulus" was recorded with producer (and KATAKLYSM guitarist) Jean-Francois Dagenais (MISERY INDEX, DESPISED ICON, MALEVOLENT CREATION).

Famed producer and new Good Fight Entertainment production division team member Jason Suecof and his studio, Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, Florida, have been responsible for recording and producing some of metal's top records, including TRIVIUM's "In Waves", AUGUST BURNS RED's "Leveler", THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER's "Ritual", UNEARTH's "Darkness In The Light", CHARRED WALLS OF THE DAMNED's upcoming album, and many more. Coming up this year, the studio will be behind the boards for several more of today's hottest bands in the metal realm.

"What can a man with crazy legs say?! I'm stoked," states Suecof. "It's so cool to me that all of my friends get to work together and make music, and then sometimes you have an awesome week like we did this week, and I'm so proud of everyone that was involved! I personally could not have done it without the hard work of Mark Lewis, who produced THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, Eyal Levi who engineered the AUGUST BURNS RED and THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER mix with me, and, of course, Ronn Miller (additional engineering, DVD/VIDEO), and Jeremy Frost, guitar set-ups for Audio Hammer Studios and beyond! Thanks to everyone involved with this album. Good Fight, Metal Blade, Tooth & Nail, and Solid State Records, and of course thanks to the fans because without them we have no one to make music for!"

Eyal Levi of metal band DAATH recently partnered with Suecof to expand the Audio Hammer Studios. A magnificent drum room, new control room, and guest quarters for bands have been added. The studio is now located on a six acre compound, now featuring a total of three control rooms, two live rooms, and more. More expansions plans are underway. TRIVIUM producer Colin Richardson christened the room for the band's upcoming record, "In Waves", and called it "the best drum room he's worked in to date."
