According to The Highway Star web site, former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist Jon Lord will deliver a lecture on improvisation and musicianship at University Of The West Of Scotland's Paisley Campus on Thursday, February 24 at the Brough Hall, Paisley Campus at 2 p.m.

Jon Lord is recognized for his Hammond organ blues-rock playing and unique sound and for his pioneering work in fusing rock and classical or baroque forms. He has most famously been a member of DEEP PURPLE, the band he co-founded in 1968.

The Brough Hall can be entered via the main High Street entrance to the University campus. The Brough Hall has disabled access.

On-street parking is available around the campus or in the public car park on Storrie Street.

This lecture is free and open to the public but you must register your interest in attending the lecture here and you will be notified by email if you have been given a place.

BLACK SABBATH/HEAVEN & HELL guitarist Tony Iommi will guest on the BBC's "The One Show" this Friday, February 25 at 7 p.m. U.K. time as part of an interview about the band QUEEN. The program looks at QUEEN and the band's music as well as the new QUEEN exhibition "Stormtroopers In Stilettos".

For more information on "The One Show", click here.

Iommi last year revealed to U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine that he has begun work on new material with the hopes of launching the "next phase" of his career alongside longtime SABBATH and HEAVEN & HELL bandmate/bassist Geezer Butler. He said, "What I'm doing now is writing. I've gone mad, writing loads of riffs again. I'm really enjoying it, putting stuff together. We will be doing something. I'm in touch with Geezer a lot now and we've been talking about what the next phase is going to be. It'll be great to get out and do something again. I don't normally say this, but there's some great ideas coming out. That's all I've got to do right now. Sit and write riffs!"

Surviving HEAVEN & HELL members Iommi, Butler and Vinny Appice played a very special tribute to their fallen bandmate, Ronnie James Dio, on July 24, 2010 at the High Voltage festival at Victoria Park in London, England. The musicians were joined by legendary former DEEP PURPLE and BLACK SABBATH man Glenn Hughes and Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande, who sings for power metallers MASTERPLAN and released his own tribute to Ronnie.

Wendy Dio, the wife/manager of Ronnie James Dio, has told VH1 Radio that she encourages the surviving members of HEAVEN & HELL to work together again under a different moniker.

"I don't know what they're doing right now," she said. "I know that Geezer's been asked several times, and he's just ... he took it very hard. I don't really know what they're doing right now. They should do something else, with Vinny, too. I mean, the band was amazing, an amazing band and they should carry on to do something. It won't be called HEAVEN & HELL but whatever they call it, it will be great, it will be amazing."

Tony Martin announced in 2008 that he had tapped Tom Galley of PHENOMENA fame to produce his next solo album, "Book of Shadows". Martin stated, "It's great to have Tom on board especially since he is getting over the death of his brother, Mel Galley [ex-WHITESNAKE, TRAPEZE guitarist] who died of cancer a few months ago. Tom is a great producer; his PHENOMENA albums have always been an interest for me."

Tony added, "The artwork will again be done by Rory Fiorito who did the 'Scream' [Martin's last solo album] artwork and it's great to have him on board again too.

"I would say this, because I'm biased and because I can: this new album is the best I've done! And it's going to be different!!! Scared????? Don't be. I promise it's gonna be impressive."

Galley has previously worked with such high-caliber musicians as Brian May, Cozy Powell, Neil Murray, John Thomas, Glenn Hughes, Mel Galley, Don Airey, Ray Gillen, and Scott Gorham.

Martin's latest solo album, "Scream", was released in November 2005 via MTM Music. The CD features legendary drummer Cozy Powell (BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, WHITESNAKE) on "Raising Hell" as well as songwriting contributions by another SABBATH member, Geoff Nicholls.

In his work with RUSH from the '70s to today, Alex Lifeson has redefined the boundaries of progressive rock guitar. Embodying far more than that genre label often implies, Lifeson's playing soars beyond the drama and the bluster to reveal truly stunning virtuosity that has been praised and admired by fans — and players — of all stripes, and has landed him in the upper echelon of performance artists as a result.

Created through extensive work with Alex Lifeson himself, the Gibson Custom Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess similarly redefines the boundaries of the classic Les Paul: packed in a single remarkable instrument, this guitar carries all of the traditional tones that have made the Les Paul legendary, along with unprecedented levels of sonic and performance versatility.

In addition to its traditional Les Paul tonewoods, the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess carries two high-output humbucking pickups with series/parallel wiring options via its push-pull volume controls series/parallel options on its push-pull volume controls, and a Floyd Rose licensed unit that not only provides the world's most efficient vibrato system, but is also loaded with GraphTech Ghost piezo bridge saddles.

Access traditional Gibson magnetic humbucker tones, mix it up with fat and funky series/parallel options, tap the Ghost's realistic acoustic tones, or blend acoustic and magnetic voices — the sky's the limit from this sonic chameleon, whose sound-shifting depths are virtually limitless. What's more, you can route it all through a traditional mono jack (labeled "Regular") using a single guitar cable, or use two cables to split your sonic trickery off into separate output paths using the "Regular" and the "Life-O-Sound" output jacks together.

All this, and the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess still presents that timeless Les Paul look that has remained a classic for more than 50 years, in your choice of two stunning colors — Viceroy Brown and Royal Crimson — both approved by the artist himself, and both resplendent atop a stunningly figured maple top.

The first 50 guitars in this special run (25 in each finish) will be signed by the artist himself, with unsigned models to follow, so reserve yours now at your authorized Gibson dealer.

When the so-called "Big Four" of 1980s thrash metal — METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX — played last summer at the Sonisphere festival in Sofia, Bulgaria, all the bands took the stage to perform DIAMOND HEAD's classic song "Am I Evil?" So when the groups all play at California's "Big Four" festival this April, will they do something similar and perform another song together?

"Well, I don't think that we're going to do that again," MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine told VH1 Radio Networks' Dave Basner. "It hasn't been presented to us and the beauty of that was just the serendipity of it."

He continued, "I don't know if it was [METALLICA singer] James [Hetfield] or [drummer] Lars [Ulrich] that came up with that but they came to us, one of their techs had come over and said, 'They wanted to know if you guys wanted to do 'Am I Evil?' for the big filming thing.' And I chuckled, of course, because I played that song, I've played just about every DIAMOND HEAD song that there is from those first couple records, so I thought, 'Man, we could do that, we could do a whole bunch of songs.'"

When asked in a September 2010 interview why he didn't take part in the "Big Four" jam in Sofia, SLAYER guitarist Kerry King said, "There's a damn good reason. It isn't too long an explanation. Mustaine came to me that day and James came to me that day saying, 'Hey, it would be really cool if you played.' I knew Jeff [Hanneman, SLAYER guitarist] wouldn't do it, and I knew Tom [Araya, SLAYER bassist/vocalist] wouldn't do it. And I also knew after we played that neither one of them would edit our video that was going to cinemas in a couple hours, so I told James and Mustaine both, 'Listen, man. I've gotta edit our video before I can even think about playing with you guys.' So the entire time of the set change between SLAYER and METALLICA, I was editing that video. I came running to the tuning room after I got done picking the songs, and they were already onstage. And to make it an even better story, I found out at 1 a.m. the night prior, so I really had no
chance to work on that stuff or anything. So I wanted to; it just couldn't happen. I've got a lot of flack for that but yeah, that's the story."

During a November 2010 interview on "The Kevin & Bean Show" on the Los Angeles radio station KROQ-FM (106.7), METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich was asked about the "Am I Evil?" jam in Sofia. "It just seemed like because this thing was being broadcast to a couple of thousand movie theaters around the world and there was such a historical element to this that to get everybody up and play a song together would be cool," he said. "So, obviously, we didn't wanna do a METALLICA song, so we felt that something that would be close to home for everybody would be the song called 'Am I Evil?' by this very influential and inspirational band to all of us called DIAMOND HEAD. And the great thing about 'Am I Evil?' — with no disrespect to [DIAMOND HEAD guitarist] Brian Tatler, who wrote the song — it's sort of like the... call it the 'Smoke Of The Water' of '80s metal songs. It's not the most challenging song to play on the guitar. It was certainly one of the easier
songs and in a big stadium of 75,000 people, it sort of translates, sound-wise, to sound probably pretty good. So we got everybody into the tuning room before the show and everybody sort of learned the basics of 'Am I Evil?' and then pretty much all the other musicians in the other three bands came up and joined us. And we had a couple of extra snare drums and some other stuff up there.

"There's been so much over the years of... The press have been trying to set us up against each other and all this competitive crap and all these ego issues and all this type of stuff. We, the bandmembers, have known that we've all been getting on and have much more love and respect for each other, but I think to the fans, it was important that they got a chance to see that everybody was playing nice in the sandbox, you know what I mean?!"

Former GUNS N' ROSES bassist Duff McKagan recently spoke to the Artisan News Service about his surprise guest appearance last October with the band's current lineup at London, England's O2 arena. Check out the clip below.

Said McKagan: "I almost wish that getting on stage part didn't happen...

"For me, the most important part of that — the chance meeting that our hotel rooms were right next door to each other. Great; it was meant to happen, it was meant to happen for us to finally connect again. What happened when we connected is a private matter — but I'm glad it happened."

He added, "It almost I wish it was, like, on an off night — that they weren't playing — because people were like, 'Oh, you played. Does that mean a reunion?' No, it doesn't mean any of that.

"I went to the gig with him. I was so jet lagged and on so much energy drink that it was all sort of surreal by that point. Like, 'I should be in bed right now, you know. I've got a meeting tomorrow morning at 8 in the morning. What am I doing here?' And then all of a sudden there's a bass in my hands — 'What? Am I going to play? 'You Could Be Mine'... I haven't played this song since 1993. Shit — how does this song go?' But that part was fun — I'm glad it happened. But the way more important thing was that there was a sense to me that it was meant to happen."

McKagan told Seattle radio station KISW last October that playing in London with the current version of the band he left in the mid-Nineties was "great." McKagan came onstage during the group's October 14 gig at London's O2 Arena to play on "You Could Be Mine", "Patience", "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and "Nice Boys", sticking around to take a bow with singer Axl Rose and the rest of the group at the end of the show. The gig marked the first time McKagan had performed with GUNS N' ROSES in 17 years.

He told the radio station that he checked into his London hotel and was there for business unrelated to music when he learned that Rose was staying in the same hotel. McKagan said, "I had no idea Axl and GUNS N' ROSES were in London . . . I'm in these meetings and my phone starts ringing later on in the day in my hotel room; it was kind of managers and tour managers. The word (was) out I (was) in the hotel. And it came down to the simple fact... Axl and I just sort of met up, we saw each other and we hugged. I went down to the gig with him."

McKagan said he was watching the show when "somebody comes over with a bass," adding, "It was fun. I had a great time. It was a little bit heavy. When people saw it... It wasn't heavy for me so much. I was kind of more concerned about the band that he's put together . . . It's a great band and I didn't wanna do anything to lessen what they were doing."

McKagan also revealed that he and Rose hung out the next day, saying, "We had a nice dinner the day after the show, and that was it."

As for whether this could be the first step toward an eventual reunion of the original GUNS lineup, McKagan said, "I have nothing to say about it. It's not . . . I don't know. It's not anything that I worked or planned for."

Rumors of a GUNS N' ROSES reunion with the classic lineup have been swirling for years. Rose told Billboard.com in 2009 that he doesn't ever expect to play again with guitarist Slash, saying, "One of the two of us will die before a reunion."

Rose and original GN'R rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin played a few shows in 2006.

McKagan teamed with JANE'S ADDICTION last year, but split with the group in September. Now he's back playing with Slash in VELVET REVOLVER.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Rob Zombie told England's RockAAA in a new interview that his original band, WHITE ZOMBIE, will never reunite. Zombie explained, "I don't see the point. I think as with most things people have a memory of something like, 'I saw them when I was 14 years old and it was the greatest thing ever,' but if they saw us now they'd probably go, 'I wish I hadn't seen that reunion, it was awful.' The singer added, "It is better to leave it alone and I haven't talked to anyone from the band except (drummer) John Tempesta in about 15 years."

WHITE ZOMBIE broke up in 1997 and Rob Zombie went on to launch a successful solo career in 1998. He told The Pulse Of Radio that nowadays a lot of his audience isn't even familiar with the old WHITE ZOMBIE songs. "The crowds are really, really young and I've been noticing that with the set list too, because, you know, as the time has gone on, we've really worked the WHITE ZOMBIE material more out of the set, because we've been finding that it's not working like it used to," he said. "It seems like that those songs just seem now old to people and it's very strange."

The history of WHITE ZOMBIE came up when Rob Zombie was asked to comment on the recent publication of "I'm In The Band", a memoir from ex-WHITE ZOMBIE bassist and Rob's former girlfriend Sean Yseult.

In the book, Yseult claims that the departure of drummer Ivan DePrume led to the eventual disintegration of the group.

Zombie said, "I have not seen it [the book] so I can't comment. I can barely remember those days, so I'm glad somebody can."

He added, "Everybody likes to make up stories which aren't true. I don't think that's fair. Ivan left the band, John Tempesta came in and the band sounded better than ever, we kept playing and made bigger records and did more tours so I don't see how that had anything to do with it."

Zombie is currently on tour in Europe, where he is playing some countries for the first time in more than a decade. He says that rumors about him having a fear of flying and thus not traveling overseas were just an urban myth.

Once his current road trip is finished, Zombie will return home to begin pre-production on his next movie, "The Lords Of Salem".

MARILYN MANSON drummer Ginger Fish (real name: Kenneth Robert Wilson) has released the following statement:

"After much deliberation and constant reflection of where my life has been and where it could or should be heading, I am regretful to inform the general population, and the fans, that I have decided to step down as a member of MARILYN MANSON and see where my life, and the knowledge of my availability cares to take me. I can't stand by to watch opportunities pass me by simply because the knowledge of my availability wasn't clearly expressed by me. I wish my brothers well, and I expect nothing but great things from them. Any inquiries can be sent to www.bookgingerfish@gmail.com."

A member of MARILYN MANSON since 1995, Fish broke his wrist and suffered a slight concussion in a fall from the stage at the Comet 2004 awards in Germany. The drummer fell off the stage as MANSON performed a cover version of DEPECHE MODE's "Personal Jesus" at the award ceremony in Cologne. He was subsequently temporarily replaced in the group's touring lineup by Chris Vrenna (ex-NINE INCH NAILS).

Fish played several U.S. shows with ROB ZOMBIE earlier this month before Rob's regular drummer, Joey Jordison — who was in Europe performing with MURDERDOLLS — rejoined the group in time for ROB ZOMBIE's U.K. headlining dates.

MARILYN MANSON in 2009 parted ways with longtime record label Interscope following the disappointing sales performance of the shock-rocker's latest album, entitled "The High End Of Low".

"The High End Of Low" was Manson's first album with longtime bassist Twiggy Ramirez since 2000's "Holy Wood".

CINDERELLA has scheduled the following 25th-anniversary tour dates:

CINDERELLA played its first show in over three years on March 19, 2010 at the Grizzly Rose in Denver, Colorado.

In a 2010 interview with Bring Back Glam!, CINDERELLA frontman Tom Keifer spoke about his voice issues which forced the cancellation of CINDERELLA's U.S. tour with WARRANT, LYNCH MOB and LYNAM in the summer of 2008.

"The root problem with my voice issues started in 1991 when I was diagnosed with a paresis, [which is] partial paralysis of one side of my voice box," he explained. "You have to train it to learn how to sing again.

"The partial paralysis is a neurological thing and it's caused by viruses, even a common cold virus. The virus gets into the nerve and it can degenerate it. It's rare, but it happens. Once degenerated, you can't — there's no surgery or medicine that fixes it. You have to retrain it and it is very tedious and time-consuming and it's not a lot of fun. In a lot of cases, it is career-ending.

"The singing voice is such a fine tuned instrument and any subtle change can throw it off."

He added, "A year ago, I met the 'Miracle Man' who is a vocal coach. He really taught me a lot of things about breathing and how to control my air and how to prevent this from happening again. I've been studying this technique — it's what they teach opera singers — classical voice training, which I've never been trained that way before. It doesn't change the tone of your voice, just how you support it. I still sound the way I sound but I'm not hurting my voice, and it's really worked and my voice feels stronger."

Regarding the possibility of a new CINDERELLA studio album at some point in the not-too-distant future, Keifer told AOL's Noisecreep, "We always feel like a band when we get back together and tour so the plan right now is to not put any pressure on ourselves and to just get back out and have some fun, do shows and be a band again and we'll see where it leads. It's definitely a possibility we could make a record at some point, I just don't know when that would be. I would say it's gotta be right place, right time. It's gotta feel right."

Beverle Lorence "Bebe" Buell, the 57-year-old American fashion model and singer, and Playboy magazine's November 1974 Playmate of the Month, has inked a management deal with Wendy Dio's Niji Management.

"I went to New York City to see Bebe Buell perform live and I knew after two songs that I had to manage her," said Wendy Dio.

"I have a genuine connection with Wendy," added Bebe Buell. "She gets it — my music and me! Her coming into my life felt like divine intervention."

Bebe's stature within the rock world remains great to this day, as she presented two awards at this year's Pollstar Awards that took place at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California.

Bebe maintains a very large and loyal social network and live show following around the world.

Buell is actress Liv Tyler's mother from a brief relationship with AEROSMITH vocalist Steven Tyler. In 2001, she wrote an autobiography (with Victor Bockris) entitled "Rebel Heart: An American Rock And Roll Journey". The book was a New York Times bestseller.

Niji Management recently secured a major international booking agency for Bebe Buell and there are plans for her to tour Europe in conjunction with her soon-to-be -released new CD.

Former WARRANT singer Jani Lane is preparing to embark on a solo tour. He will be joined on all dates by returning keyboardist Shawn Zavodney, guitarist Patrick Kennison and former WARRANT guitarist Billy Morris.

According to a posting on the Everything Jani Lane page, Jani "has been feverishly writing since 2008 to bring you a more modern sound! Think THE BEATLES mixed with HOOBASTANK and FOO FIGHTERS!!! He is working very hard to evolve with the music industry as well as keeping his long time fans impressed and turned on by his new creations."

Upcoming Jani Lane shows:

Feb. 26 - Biloxi, MS - Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
Mar. 25 - Jim Thorpe, PA - Penn's Peak
Mar. 26 - Battle Creek, MI - Planet Live Music Factory
Jun. 10 - Lake Odessa, MI - Bike N Roll Festival
Jun. 12 - DeMotte, IN - Jimmy's House of Rock
Jun. 17 - Madison, WI - Bike N Roll Festival
Jun. 18 - Fremont, WI - Liquid Assets
Aug. 13 - Dubuque, IA -Diamond Joe Casino (Jani Lane + GREAT WHITE, hosted by Bobbie Brown)

WARRANT announced in September 2008 that it was splitting with Jani Lane six months after the band first reunited with the troubled vocalist. He has since been replaced by Robert Mason (LYNCH MOB, CRY OF LOVE, BIG COCK).

On July 19, 2010, Lane pled no contest to DUI stemming from his most recent arrest back in May 2010 — and was ordered to serve 120 days in jail. In addition, Lane lost his license for three years and had to complete a 30-month alcohol-education program.

Lane originally left WARRANT in 2002 to pursue a solo career. He released a solo album, "Back Down to One", in 2003, but shortly after was admitted to a rehab center for alcohol and drug-related exhaustion. He also appeared on VH1's reality series "Celebrity Fit Club".

Legendary British occult metal act HELL will release a new single, "Save Us From Those Who Would Save Us" — a re-recording of the band's original single released in 1983 — digitally and on picture vinyl, limited to 666 copies, on March 4. The single will contain the title track backed with "On Earth As It Is In Hell", for which the band recently shot a video with director Kristian Havard of Visual Concepts UK.

"Save Us From Those Who Would Save Us" is the first single from HELL's forthcoming album, "Human Remains", which will be released on May 13 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Cited as a huge indirect influence, and as one of the true founding fathers of occult metal, the band formed in 1982 from the carcasses of U.K. metal bands RACE AGAINST TIME and PARALEX, whose "White Lightning" EP was listed by METALLICA as a favorite, and which was subsequently included on the Lars Ulrich, Geoff Barton "NWOBHM '79 Revisited" sampler album.

Despite over five years of constant touring, the band was cruelly overlooked by the '80s music press, who just didn't get it. HELL were too different, too extreme, too musically intelligent and far too thought-provoking for all but the most enlightened to understand them. The final crushing blow came when their long-awaited 1986 album deal with Mausoleum collapsed as the label went bankrupt, followed by the tragic suicide of singer/guitarist Dave Halliday in 1987. The remaining members drew a line in the sand and stopped playing overnight.

A teenage Andy Sneap was a permanent fixture on the front row of almost every show HELL played and was also taught to play guitar by Halliday. He then went on to form SABBAT and become a renowned metal producer. Upon meeting again, the remaining members of HELL — Kev Bower (guitar/keyboards), Tony Speakman (bass) and Tim Bowler (drums) — talked with Andy about re-recording the old material to release in conjunction with the old demos. With Sneap replacing Halliday on guitar and David Bower on vocals, the band has recorded 10 HELL classics from the '80s.

One hugely respected European journal has already described "Human Remains" as one of the best things they have heard in the last 15 years and THE band to watch out for in 2011.

Belgium-based metallers THURISAZ have inked a deal with Greece's Sleaszy Rider Records for the release of the band's third album, "The Cimmerian Years". Due in May, the CD was recorded and mixed at CCR Studio in Zulte, Belgium with producer Kris Belean. The artwork was created by the Dutch artist Geert van Mook and can be viewed below.

Regarding what fans can expect from the new album, the band said, "One could say it's gonna be a known mixture of styles, yet so very different... It's gonna be the known combination of different vocals, yet so very different... It's gonna be the known soundscapes of bombast and melody, yet again so very different... Let's just say, it will sound familiar and it won't..."

"The Cimmerian Years" track listing:

01. Broken
02. My Precious Unknown
03. Second Mirror
04. No Regrets (feat. NOVEMBER DOOM's Paul Kuhr)
05. Fare Thee Well
06. The Carnival Of Miscreation
07. Inner Voices
08. Unhealed (feat. INIS CATHAIGH's Els Blieck)
09. A Glance Of Misperception (feat. SATURNUS' Thomas A.G. Jensen)

Two songs from the album can be streamed below.

THURISAZ in 2009 parted ways with bassist Lars Vereecke and replaced him with Hannes Leroy.

The band had its 2004 debut album, "Scent of a Dream", reissued in April 2008 through Shiver Records. The LP was remastered and contains an acoustic live version of "Years of Silence" as the bonus track.

THURISAZ' second full-length album, "Circadian Rhythm", was released in 2007 via Shiver.

Metal Insider recently conducted an interview with drummer Chris Adler of Richmond, Virginia metallers LAMB OF GOD. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Metal Insider: How has your confidence as a drummer grown or changed overtime? Do you still feel "challenged" as a metal drummer?

Chris: Yeah, absolutely! Every day! I think that's a secret that maybe nobody will let you know, that all of us are backstage with our fingers crossed. Holding on is a tricky rope. I just have to feel good about the songs that I write and performing them. They're rarely ever perfect, and I still get the jitters before we go onstage. I don't want to say I don't have any confidence as a drummer. I listen back and hear cool stuff and realize that I'm playing in a cool band, but I don't walk into it with a bunch of ego either. I don't go into the studio with the guys and think to myself, "Hey, you're one special drummer that people write about in magazines!" I still have to challenge and prove it to myself all the time. I guess I'm a bit self conscious about it in that I want to be as good as I can for the band. So yeah, it hasn't really changed over time. I've always wanted to never allow myself to, whether it's true or if I've gotten to that place where
you're talking about, I haven't allowed myself to swallow that yet.

Metal Insider: With all the current issues surrounding the music industry, namely low album sales, do you think that the instrument brand industry will soon be badly affected as well, or have you noticed it already has been?

Chris: Ah, it's interesting! I think maybe in the past decade the whole industry has been falling apart. I've seen some big improvements in the big companies and what they're trying to do and what they're making available, and how their price points have changed over time. But I don't really know. I haven't dug into it that much. I do keep up with the different kits, drum heads, drum sticks and stuff like that because I want to make sure that I'm using the best tools that I can to do what I want to do. Although they may not be the most popular brands of stuff all the way around, I definitely feel like I've picked the best stuff for what I want to do and for the sound in my head that I want to achieve. So I hope they stay open for a little while longer, but most of the guys who I've talked to in up and coming bands are interested in their gear heads just like we were coming up. If you want to play guitar, you got to buy a guitar. You want to play drums,
you got to buy drums.

Metal Insider: Speaking of the music industry, you just recently formed a new record label with manager Larry Mazer called ReThink Records, a joint venture with The End Records and distribution through RED. What inspired you to launch your own label, especially in the current state of the music industry?

Chris: Yeah, it seems almost backwards to do it, and honestly it's almost, in the way I think of it, like the same deal with the book. I wasn't planning to kind of change the world or make a whole lot of money on this. I've just been in contact with so many people that know so many people. And having the opportunity to go out there and meet a million bands a year and hearing a lot of albums that record companies send me, I get millions of stuff every day, and some of these guys just never really have the opportunity, they never had the shot. I don't know if I can give anybody a shot, but between myself and the manager of LAMB OF GOD, who is partners in this with me, we know a lot of people, and it's almost like friends helping out friends. I'm not out there actively listening to new bands and demos. It's just he and I working together with people that we know and using the connections that we have to try and help friends of ours or people that have
impressed us in different ways with what they want to do.

Metal Insider: Would you and LAMB OF GOD ever consider releasing music, not necessarily through ReThink Records, but possibly DYI style in the future?

Chris: Well, sooner or later we may have to (laughing). The industry is definitely kind of falling apart, and who knows what's going to happen? I think we may very well have to at some point. We're very fortunate to have the name recognition where we could do something like that, and obviously that model is far more favorable to the artist if you are in a place to have people interested in you. It's just very hard to start there because you need that push and distribution that labels will have to get started, but once you're started it's a good way to go. It's kind of an interesting see-saw there that you have to navigate very gently as you go along. But right now, Epic in the U.S. has done a really good job for us, and Roadrunner, only on their first record, "Wrath", overseas, has really done a fantastic job. The fans overseas probably tripled on this record, and it's because it's the first time a label had worked it properly outside of the U.S. So we
really have no complaints.

Metal Insider: LAMB OF GOD really is one of the exceptions to a band being able to keep to its "true self" without much compromise while also being on a major label. What would you say is the key ingredient to making that work?

Chris: I think that if it hadn't have worked, we still wouldn't have changed it. We're really very fortunate, we're really very lucky. We played it the hard way and kept doing it our way, and slowly built an organic base that didn't abandon us when we jumped to a label. I think you're right, we are kind of an exception. I see it falling apart and not working all the time, with people trying to change to make people like them or broaden their horizon. But I think we've just stayed pretty close to where we wanted to be from the start, and I think that is a bit refreshing today (laughing). I guess the secret would be, and it's the same thing that I tell kids when they ask me about drums or anything else, is that you really have to love what you do, and when you do put that creativity and love into it, other people will take notice. There's no real secret. There's no amount of practice or certain place you need to play or people you need to impress. A lot of
people can see through a lot of the bullshit. So if your heart's in it, they'll see that, too.

Los Angeles thrashers WARBRINGER have announced the addition of drummer Carlos Cruz (HEXEN) to the group's ranks.

"After years of putting forth nothing but blood, sweat, and tears into my tireless ambitions for playing music, I have finally found an outlet where no more time is wasted. It was flattering to have been approached by WARBRINGER the first time they made a personnel change in 2008, but this time around it couldn't have felt more like perfect timing," states Carlos. "They're a collective group of humble, open-minded, down-to-earth guys who share the same fanaticism for music as I do and are the tightest musicians I have ever played with. I've never felt so welcomed and inspired to move forward. Even past members of the band have congratulated me and it feels very much like family, not just another band. From some recent serious downfalls in my personal life came this beautiful opportunity and I couldn't be happier."

Carlos will make his live debut with WARBRINGER in Mexico City on March 5 at the Eyescream Festival alongside ASESINO, ANVIL, TOXIC HOLOCAUST and ABIGAIL WILLIAMS.

WARBRINGER will enter the studio in April to record its third album. More live shows will follow in May and June.

"Waking Into Nightmares", the sophomore album from WARBRINGER, sold around 2,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD landed at position No. 14 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Waking Into Nightmares" was released on May 19, 2009 via Century Media Records. The CD was mixed by Zack Ohren (SUFFOCATION, ALL SHALL PERISH) and the cover artwork was created by esteemed artist Dan Seagrave (MORBID ANGEL, ENTOMBED).

WARBRINGER's latest album was recorded at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California with axeman/producer Gary Holt (EXODUS).

Norwegian traditional songs

Kristine previously stated about the upcoming CD: "As we began composing the first song ideas for our fourth full-length album, all of us were very eager to take another step in strengthening both the individual sound and concept of LEAVES' EYES, like we have done album by album. Along with the songwriting process, I made up my mind about the songs' themes, and drowned myself in different sources of literature. Some songs clearly needed lyrics rooted in northern history and culture, as well as having mystical themes.

"Being an Old-English fan, I decided to write some of the lyrics in Old-English, which, of course, included further studies of grammatical and phonetic knowledge, which I really enjoyed doing.

"Next to modern English and Old English, some songs are sung in traditional Norwegian, to keep their strong individuality and focus on certain themes from special genres in Norwegian traditional singing.

"The album is given the title 'Meredead', as one of the songs on the album. It is my own word creation (at least I haven't found it in a dictionary yet), and it may mean both 'dead by/in the sea,' or 'the mortal or killing sea.'

"In my lyrics, you will find traditional themes from Viking literature and Norwegian song tradition, moreover, tales from the Irish isles, some from already existing sources, some made up myself. Sometimes you will hear about men going on adventures, some ending up drowning in the sea, their wives, evil witches, three-headed trolls, or spell-bound princesses, as well as marble halls and blood-thirsty creatures.

"I allowed myself more freedom for the concept of 'Meredead', telling a number of different stories, real, mystical or sometimes maybe even both."

LEAVES' EYES last year parted ways with bassist Alla Fedynitch "for personal reasons." The group played the last show of 2010 — at the Metal Female Voices Fest on October 24 in Wieze, Belgium — with Dutch session bassist J.B. van der Wal (ABORTED, DR. DOOM).

J.B. van der Wal previously played with LEAVES' EYES at the Bloodstock Open Air and Summer Breeze festivals as well as on the band's last U.S. tour.

Bullet Tooth has announced the signing of NIGHTSHADE. The label's first-ever band from France will release its new album, "Lost In Motion", this spring, followed by a lengthy U.S. tour.

Although NIGHTSHADE is located in France, the group's singer, Wayne Hudspath, is actually from Ohio. The band's CD, featuring the songs "Rebellion", "Through The Memory", and "A Dream, A Choice, A War", is crushingly heavy but with a spellbinding melodic structure.

NIGHTSHADE's new material has been compared to AT THE GATES and CHILDREN OF BODOM with a contemporary twist.

Fans can listen to a two-minute teaser of the new album at the NIGHTSHADE Facebook page.

Commented NIGHTSHADE guitarist and songwriter Bastien Deleule: "Everyone in NIGHTSHADE is excited to be working with our new label, Bullet Tooth, and its owner, Josh Grabelle. We've come to know him well the last few months and his track record with many successful metal acts like IT DIES TODAY, FIRST BLOOD, BLEEDING THROUGH and more, speaks volumes. We feel confident in the new album and we hope everyone will enjoy listening to them, because we had a great time making them. See you on the road!"

Pleasanton, California's CYNTHESIS will release its debut album, "DeEvolution", on April 19 via Sensory Records.

A label priority for Sensory this year, the magnificent "DeEvolution" tells the story of an elite group of leaders from a heavily industrialized city who find, brainwash and then exploit an indigenous tribes' shaman, believing he would be the perfect supreme leader. By propping him up as possessing all the answers to society's ills, the elites use him in order to gain and keep more control over the masses in order to influence the masses via religion, media, consumerism and government.

The brilliant cover artwork for "DeEvolution", created by Dennis "Damn Engine" Sibeijn (EXODUS, DRAGONFORCE, LAMB OF GOD, HIM), can be seen below.

"DeEvolution" track listing:

01. The Man Without Skin
02. Incision
03. Divided Day
04. Shallow World
05. Profits Of Disaster
06. The Edifice Grin
07. Twilight
08. A Song Of Unrest

CYNTHESIS reunites three original members of progressive metal heroes ZERO HOUR — founding twin brothers Jasun and Troy Tipton and original vocalist Erik Rosvold — for the first time on a recording since their heralded albums "The Towers Of Avarice" (2001) and "Metamorphosis" (2003), both considered landmark releases in the progressive metal community.

"DeEvolution" was recorded and produced in 2010 by Dino Alden (Marty Friedman, Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, ZERO HOUR), and while trademark styles of both the Tipton brothers and Rosvold shine heavily throughout the release, over the course of eight epic anthems, it is very clear by more relaxed pace and epic story of "DeEvolution" that this is NOT a new ZERO HOUR album.

German black metallers ENDSTILLE have set "Infektion 1813" as the title of their seventh album, due on May 17 (one day earlier internationally) via Season Of Mist. The first pressing of the CD will be a limited-edition digipak.

Commented the group: "We're satisfied to get reinforcements now by our new comrades of Season of Mist. They already proved to be a successful label in the past. So we know that our new brothers in arms can give us enough support for being finally at war with all."

ENDSTILLE in 2009 announced the addition of vocalist Zingultus (ex-NAGELFAR) to the group's ranks.

The band's sixth album, entitled "Verführer", was released in April 2009 via Regain Records. The CD was recorded at Jak's Hell studio in Germany.

Nera, the singer of the Polish metal band DARZAMAT, will release her debut solo album, "Foresting Wounds", under the name NERANATURE on May 8 via Metal Mind Productions.

Audio samples of four tracks ("Shattered", "Precious Now", "Oblivion" and "Disappointed") that will appear on the CD can be streamed on Nera's MySpace page.

Formed in 2009, NERANATURE "appeared as a space where the air is filled with matters lingering in [Nera's] head, a bit more intimate, private and sometimes bizarre and freakish," according to a press release.

"I've been waiting for a long time for the right place and time to find an outlet for my personal thoughts and beliefs," explains Nera. "This is the time and place." The idea appealed to Chris, the guitarist of DARZAMAT, who created the base for the melodies and completed the project with his music.

The name of the band is a combination of two words: Nera, which is the nickname of the vocalist, and Nature, which represents a reflection of a deep connection with the environment. It can also be interpreted as the nature of Nera — a diversity of views reflected in the songs. The feminine character of lyrics imbued with the feminist outlook on life constitutes one the most significant elements of the projects, touching upon such issues as man's detachment from nature and running away from himself/herself. The approach presented in the album is not only the singer's artistic pose, as Nera has been an engaged animal-rights activist and a vegetarian for the last 15 years.

The music of NERANATURE can be categorized as a mixture of atmospheric rock/metal, ambient and trip rock.

"Foresting Wounds" contains ten compositions — ranging from sensuous ballads to more energetic songs — which were produced by Jaroslaw Toifl.

The track listing for the CD is as follows:

01. Disappointed
02. The Precious Now
03. Shattered
04. Oblivion
06. Dormant
06. Defective
07. Before
08. Some Air
09. Woman's Soul
10. Scar

NERANATURE lineup:

Nera – Vocals
Chris – Guitars
Markus - Bass
Darkside - Drums
