which was bullshit and I'm positive Lennon knew it and was yanking Ringo's
chain. The only track that can be positively confirmed that Ringo did NOT
play on, is Back in the USSR, and the drums are not that spectacular. Macca
played most of it and later George and John added "percussion", who knows
what that means. Ringo was an excellent drummer, in my opinion, and Macca
was not, nor is.

Oh I'd imagine John was being a smartass, but that was his nature. I'm
thinking he was trying to not take alot of the hype over any of them as
seriously as people wanted him to.
Personally, Ringo fit the sound and style, but to my ears nothing
exceptional. I guess it depends on what a person is looking for, flashy,
steady, machine like, over the top, etc. Every era has all types. Charlie
Watts has been called the anchor of the Stones many times. He's great, yet
very unassuming and non ego driven. Ginger Baker from that era had a busier
style and a much busier ego, and was/is a damn good drummer.
