Greetings Everyone,
25 years ago this evening I introduced Stevie Ray Vaughan to
Jimi Hendrix' best friend and bass player Billy Cox at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. I had put the whole thing together thru talks with Stevie's management and Stevie was all for it. Stevie kinda paled when Billy thanked him for carrying on Jimi's music to which Stevie modestly said, "I do the best I can."
I was the only spectator in the hall when Tommy Shannon handed Billy
the same Fender bass that Hendrix had played when he jammed with Johnny Winter in 69. They ran thru "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" and
"Come On Let the Good Times Roll." Tommy sat cross legged on the stage
floor and watched up close. Both tunes brought down the house that night. When Stevie returned later that year I gave him copies of the best photos we took that night. It truly was a night I will never forget. For those who have never seen them or for those that might like to see them again you can go to my website and see photos from the afternoon rehearsal and the evening show as well as the untorn ticket
and a great shot of Stevie's guitars. Log onto the site, Click on
"RocknRoll Heroes" and then the "Stevie Ray Vaughan" link.
