Word on the Street: Tour Ups and Downs
Speaking of charity benefits, a supergroup consisting of Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath,) Ian Gillan and Jon Lord (ex-Deep Purple) and Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) have recorded a single titled "Out Of My Mind", proceeds from which will help build a new music school in Armenia that has been housed in temporary quarters since an earthquake destroyed the facility in 1988. In 1989, Iommi and Gillan were among those who re-recorded DP's "Smoke On The Water" to benefit victims of that earthquake.
And speaking of supergroups (don't you love it when things tie together so nicely?) Chad Smith confirmed this week that he will not be able to tour with Chickenfoot next year due to tour commitments with his day job, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Smith says he does expect to be available to finish Chickenfoot's forthcoming second album. So remaining Chickenfooters Sammy Hagar, Mike Anthony and Joe Satriani are officially in the market for a tour drummer for 2011.
Ozzy Osbourne has added a series of 2011 arena dates to the North American leg of his Scream tour. He now has confirmed bookings through the end of February.
Also adding tour dates: John Mellencamp, whose newly expanded No Better Than This tour now has additional gigs booked in February and March, after a December-January break. Fourteen North American dates have been added.
