Here's some irony for you. For more than 40 years, The Beatles held the record for the most Billboard Top 100 singles by a non-solo act. This week, that record was broken by the cast of the TV series Glee, among whose hits were covers of two Beatles songs. The Beatles had 71 hit singles, the Glee cast now have 75, all of them covers. In fact, their success (sales of nearly 3-million albums and more than 11-million downloads) is such that (further irony) Paul McCartney has "expressed interest in making a cameo" appearance on the show, according to The Guardian.

This will probably not escape the notice of fans who will attend BEATexpo 2010 in Stamford, Connecticut next month. The Beatles tribute event (revived last year after a ten year break) was big in the '80s and '90s when it attracted guests like Cynthia Lennon (John's first wife,) Pete Best (the band's first drummer) and Richie Havens (a pal of George Harrison.) Among the artists, authors, producers and assorted Beatles associates who are booked for this year's event (November 27-28): Denny Laine, ex-Moody Blues; Tommy Roe; Juma Sultan, ex-Jimi Hendrix percussionist. (Hey, do you think that 40 years from now they'll be having a GLEEexpo 2050?)
