Reunion Recap: The Cars, Buffalo Springfield

• The Cars, including original singer-songwriter Ric Ocasek, are in the studio working on their first album since their 1988 breakup. Ocasek passed on a 2005 reunion (The New Cars) that included original members Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes (with Todd Rundgren replacing Ocasek.) In fact, Ocasek has, in the past, said he would never participate in a Cars reunion. Yet here they are in the studio, recording new music and possibly planning a tour to accompany the new album's release, according to Billboard.

• Last weekend's (10/23-24) Buffalo Springfield reunion at Neil Young's Bridge School Benefit is described as "a triumph" in a Rolling Stone review. Surviving original members Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay performed together for the first time since 1968, reprising some of their best known tracks like "On the Way Home" and "For What It's Worth". The band's original drummer, Dewey Martin died in 2009, five years after the death of bassist Bruce Palmer. For the reunion, those slots were filled by CSN drummer Joe Vitale and Young's bassist, Rick Rosas.
