BLACK LABEL SOCIETY mainman Zakk Wylde has been released from a Nebraska hospital after receiving treatment for a blood-clotting condition in his leg.

Last night's (Thursday, September 30) BLACK LABEL SOCIETY concert at the Anchor Inn in Omaha, Nebraska and tonight's gig at in Clive, Iowa, have been called off, but the group plans on completing the rest of its current "Black Label Berzerkus" tour, according to BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's publicist.

In a series of messages on his Twitter profile, Zakk wrote about his latest trip to the hospital (edited for clarity), "[I] hung out with the Omaha chapter meet-and-greet [Thursday afternoon] and felt pain in my left thigh. [I] went to [the emergency room] to be on the safe side and [they] told me I had a 12-inch clot from my calf to thigh. That was around 5:00 [p.m.]. [They] did blood work on me and told me my blood was not [in the] therapeutic [range]. Obviously I NEVER CANCEL GIGS so I wanted to do the gig. The doctors said the problem was chances were even higher for the clot going into my lungs/heart/brain and to stay overnight and jack me up with blood thinners and get my blood [up to the] therapeutic [range] like I was previously on the Coumadin. So now it's two shots a day and Coumadin. Soon the shots will be gone, but [I will have to take] the oral [medications] for the rest of my days. No big deal — just something else to take along with the
crack cocaine lite, meth, Viagra, Cialis, steroids, growth hormone, MET-RX, morning-after pill, hair and nail, Joint Fuel, Flintstones chewables [and] Paxil."

According to the Omaha World-Herald, "Black Label Berzerkus" opening bands CLUTCH, CHILDREN OF BODOM and 2 CENTS performed their sets at the Anchor Inn, where around 1,500 fans turned up for the gig. Those people will be able to attend a rescheduled concert for free. Ticketholders are being asked to hold onto their tickets.

Wylde was first hospitalized with blood clots in August 2009, causing BLACK LABEL SOCIETY to drop off last year's "Pedal To The Metal Tour".

The Smoking Gun reports that Boston hard rock legends AEROSMITH received a guaranteed $1 million payday for their 90-minute performances during their recently completed 18-city U.S. tour, according to an excerpt from one of the band's contracts. In addition, the band stood to earn even more based on its receipt of a percentage of ticket sales above a contractually stipulated amount.

TicketNews.com reported in early September that there had been a downturn in interest in AEROSMITH's "Cocked, Locked, Ready To Rock Tour", with sales for the band on the secondary market down 25 percent for well over a month.

AEROSMITH's "Cocked, Locked, Ready To Rock Tour" ended on September 16 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The Smoking Gun recently posted a chart of the top-earning touring acts across the pop, country, rock and urban genres, with country artists RASCAL FLATTS topping the list with a nightly fee of just over $700,000. The biggest rock act on the list, KISS, leaves with half a million every night, while WEEZER, BUCKCHERRY and SHINEDOWN earn $150,000, $100,000 and $85,000 respectively.

Other large earners include BROOKS & DUNN with $460,000 a night, SUGARLAND with $325,000, and JUSTIN BIEBER, who pulls down $300,000 per show. Meanwhile, Bret Michaels earns "just" $64,000.

THE JIMMY CRESPO PROJECT, the new band led by Jimmy Crespo — best known as the guitarist who replaced Joe Perry in AEROSMITH from 1979 to 1984 — will make its live debut on October 8 in Club Madrid (inside Sunset Station) in Las Vegas, Nevada alongside SIN CITY SINNERS. The show starts at 9 p.m. and is free.

THE JIMMY CRESPO PROJECT is:

Jimmy Crespo (AEROSMITH) - Guitar
Chris Van Dahl (L.A. GUNS) - Vocals
Phil Varone (SKID ROW, SAIGON KICK) - Drums
Kyle Kyle (BANG TANGO) - Bass
Michael Ellis (SIN CITY SINNERS) - Guitar

Crespo appeared on AEROSMITH's "Night In The Ruts" album and co-wrote the majority of songs on 1982's "Rock In A Hard Place", performing almost all the guitar duties on the LP.

After years of performing with such artists as Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, Billy Squier, Dee Snider and Lita Ford, Jimmy is ready to return to center stage with THE JIMMY CRESPO PROJECT.

Joined by a group of noted musicians, THE JIMMY CRESPO PROJECT is preparing to play a 90-minute show featuring classic rock hits and Crespo-era AEROSMITH songs you can only hear him play live.

2012 will mark the 30-year anniversary of the release of "Rock In a Hard Place" and for the next two years Jimmy Crespo will let the music do the talkin'. THE JIMMY CRESPO PROJECT also has plans to release an album of origina material, that promises to pick up where classic AEROSMITH left off.
According to Amazon.com, original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley will release "No Regrets", a look back at his "life of sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll" on April 26, 2011 via Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. Gallery plans to publish the title under the VH1 Books imprint.

"No Regrets" is being co-written by New York Times journalist Joe Layden who also authored "The Last Great Fight" about what is considered by many to be the biggest upset in the history of boxing: James "Buster" Douglas' tenth-round knockout win over Mike Tyson in 1990.

Layden recently worked on MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine's autobiography, "Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir".

Jennifer Bergstrom, Vice President, Editor-in-Chief of Gallery Books, said "'No Regrets' is sure to be the next must-read rock-and-roll memoir."

Commented Frehley: "I think Sinatra said it best… 'Regrets I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention.'"

One of the most popular rock guitarists of the 1970s, Frehley became an inspiration to a generation of guitarists with his lead-guitar prowess and atmospheric Les Paul sound.

Frehley performed with KISS from its inception in 1973 until his first departure in 1982 before rejoining KISS in 1996 for a very successful reunion tour. Frehley's second stint lasted until 2002 as Ace went back to being a solo artist again, but the stories and memories still remain from touring in one of rock and roll's most successful acts of all time.

On the red carpet just before his performance with Slash at the at the sixth annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert on May 7 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, Ace Frehley talked about putting his memoir together and how he got help remembering some of his old stories that he might have forgotten.

"It's gonna be memoirs, you know," he told the Artisan News Service.

"I just turned 59, [so] I think it's about time I start getting the stuff out and writing it down on paper before I forget it.

"It's hard for me to remember a lot of the stuff, so what I've been doing is getting together with people I used to work with, and they usually have better memories of situations than myself. Getting together with old bodyguards... They have the best stories about me... stuff I don't remember."
Before the Jägermeister Music Tour's opening night in Dallas, SLAYER's Kerry King, MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine, and ANTHRAX's Scott Ian chatted backstage with SPIN.com about what's changed over the past two decades, an upcoming U.S. "Big Four" tour with METALLICA, and their "timeless" sounds. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

SPIN.com: So who puts on the best show [on the tour]?

Mustaine: The best live show that I've ever seen is SLAYER. Their energy is just over the top. We try to play our best. But, as far as the energy and stuff, I've never seen anybody do what Kerry and SLAYER can do.

King: We're all totally different animals. I call MEGADETH nerd metal — not detrimentally, but they're guitar geeks. They blow away the guitar geeks. They're very good at what they do. And then you have guitar geeks come look at us, and they're like, "Yeah, it's kind of heavy." But the intricacies of the leads and stuff? C'mon, that's MEGADETH's specialty. We're just angry and throwing and spitting aggression. All four band (including METALLICA) started from one place and evolved into a four-headed monster. There's four very different things happening.

Mustaine: Same body; four different heads. That's a great way to put it.

SPIN.com: Who's the best guitarist on this tour?

King: It's got to be either Dave or [MEGADETH guitarist Chris] Broderick.

Ian: Yeah, I'd say either Dave or Rob [Caggiano] from our band. From a pure technical standpoint as players, they're insane. It's just like they're using a whole other language that I could never even learn.

Mustaine: Everyone's such a talent. Kerry's right hand is just so fast and articulate. And Scott has all these melodies. Everybody has their own niche. Chris Broderick is a better guitar player than I am because he's learned — I don't know the names of the scales or any of that shit. I'm self-taught, and to a degree that's what makes all us as raw as we are. I remember when Kerry and I played together — Kerry was in MEGADETH for a while when we couldn't secure another guitar player — and just the two of us playing together, it was just so cool. We were from two different worlds, but we were converging on this new style. And I knew that something was going to happen. When Kerry came over and helped us out — those concerts are legendary. Watch them on YouTube. The filming is shit. But the concerts were legendary.

Ian: You've got all these guys with just amazing right hands on this tour. The rhythm capabilities of everyone is second-to-none.
Jon Wiederhorn of AOL's Noisecreep recently conducted an interview with ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian about THE DAMNED THINGS — the new band featuring members of FALL OUT BOY (Joe Trohman, Andy Hurley), ANTHRAX (Scott Ian, Rob Caggiano) and EVERY TIME I DIE (Keith Buckley, Josh Newton). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Noisecreep: When were the seeds first planted for THE DAMNED THINGS?

Scott: The genesis of it was about four years ago. Joe and I were both endorsed by Washburn guitar and our A&R guy was a mutual friend who kept telling us individually that we had to hang out with one another. He even used to say to me specifically, "Look, I know he's in FALL OUT BOY but he's a really great guy." I was like, "I don't give a fuck what band he's in." There are plenty of bands I don't like, but I like the musicians who play in them. And not that I hate FALL OUT BOY. Truthfully, I didn't know anything about FALL OUT BOY other than they were named after a character on "The Simpsons".

Noisecreep: Are THE DAMNED THINGS the sum of their parts, an amalgamation of ANTHRAX, FALL OUT BOY and EVERY TIME I DIE?

Scott: I really don't hear anything from any of our bands in this. It sounds like something completely new to me. We haven't reinvented music or anything. It's still hard rock/heavy metal. It represents the genres of music that we all come from, but it doesn't sound specifically like any of our bands. For me, I hear a lot of elements of classic rock, I hear a lot of elements of older school heavy metal, but at the same time I hear a lot of modern rock as well. There are definitely influences coming from Rob, Keith and Joe because the three of them were really responsible for most of the melody ideas and the big choruses. Those guys are all influenced by all kinds of sh- all across the board. It definitely sounds fresh. The energy of it is amazing and I'm dying for people to hear it.

Noisecreep: Does Keith Buckley rant like a maniac, as he does in EVERY TIME I DIE?

Scott: No, he's actually singing on it. The material definitely called for singing, not screaming. There certainly are elements of what people are familiar with from Keith, but people are gonna be really surprised. He can sing his ass off; he's a rock singer. If you listen to EVERY TIME I DIE songs like "Wanderlust" or "Werewolf", where he pulls back from the full-on screaming, you get to hear a little bit of where he can go, but Rob and Joe really pushed him in the studio and he actually went and took lessons with Melissa Cross. He said, "I could scream all day long and it's no problem, but you guys have me scream for an hour and my voice is done." So she helped him build up his stamina and strengthen his voice. He was totally into it, because he wanted to grow as an artist and he's just so amazing on this record.
Phil Freeman of MSN's metal music section Headbang recently conducted an interview with guitarist Wolf Hoffmann of reformed heavy metal legends ACCEPT. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Headbang: So, the new record. People expect a certain vocal style from ACCEPT — how much did Mark [Tornillo] have to change in order to fit into the mold created by Udo [Dirkschneider]?

Wolf: Not at all. I mean, when we met him he just opened his mouth and started singing, and that's the way he sings. And we were blown away by how much it reminds you of Udo, but at the same time how much of his own character he brings to it, too. He doesn't sound like he's imitating or whatever; that's the way he sounds, and we felt it was a perfect fit.

Headbang: He's not some 19-year-old, either, which is good; he's been around a while.

Wolf: Absolutely. He's an experienced singer, like you said. He's done it all, which helps. I don't think a 22-year-old kid would be possible for us. Even theoretically, if he was a kid but sounded like Mark or something, I don't think we would have considered it, honestly, because that's just not who we are, and it needs to all fit.

Headbang: Are you still in touch with Udo, are you guys friends? Have you heard what, if anything, he thinks about the new record?

Wolf: Basically now we have no relationship whatsoever. Invariably we run into each other sometimes, but we're not enemies, don't dislike each other, we just have separate lives, I'd say.

Headbang: So you didn't send him a copy of the record or anything like that?

Wolf: Ask for his blessing?

Headbang: No, no, but just filling him in, like, "Here's what we're doing."

Wolf: He knows, he knows exactly what's going on. It's all good, we just have basically separate lives, and I wish him all the best. I think he should continue to do his own stuff, 'cause that's what he chooses to do. Because we asked him initially if he wanted to be part of this, 'cause obviously he was the main singer for ACCEPT for all these years, even though he's been out of the band a lot of times when people didn't even realize that, so obviously we wanted him back. And he turned us down, so at this point we're moving forward and doing our thing and we wish him all the best with his.

Headbang: The last time you split with him it only lasted one album — why did that happen, and what brought him back for "Objection Overruled" and the 1990s albums?

Wolf: He left the band to do his own solo career and we wanted to at the same time move ACCEPT in a slightly different direction with a guy called David Reece, for this record "Eat the Heat". That in retrospect didn't work — there's a million reasons why that didn't work, but the fact is it didn't work between David Reece and the rest of the band, [so] we just tried it again with Udo and did three more records with him in the '90s and the longer hiatus started in '96.

Headbang: Some of the songs on this album really fit with your classic sound, but others are very different — how much are you concerned with preserving links to the past, and how much with moving forward?

Wolf: We weren't really trying to move anywhere with this album. We were just trying to give the fans pretty much a typical old-school ACCEPT metal record like it could have been written in the '80s. We just wanted to have a continuation of the good old days with a modern sound. Most people who've heard the record would probably agree that it's exactly what they want to hear from us, and we still love to give it to them. So we didn't really try to reinvent the wheel or anything, we just wanted to do like we'd always done back then and come up with fresh ideas. More of it, basically.

Mark Morton of Heavy Metal Examiner recently conducted an interview with German metal queen Doro Pesch. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Heavy Metal Examiner: You are one of the lucky ones who get to come to America to play the occasional show or tour. Why do you think German metal has such a hard time getting a foothold in the States?

Doro: Well, I think you really have to have a lot of good people around you — promotion, management, booking agents, and sponsors. It's just very hard to get over there when you don't have a great support system. I love it so much in the States. I actually want to become an American citizen; I've had a green card for the past 20 years, and eventually, I'd like to take that next step. But yeah, you have to work really hard just to get a couple of gigs over there. And I've had a string of problems with label support. I was on Locomotive, and they closed their doors; I was on SPV, and they went through a serious money crisis… it's tough.

Heavy Metal Examiner: The way the current business model for music is set, it almost seems to be geared towards younger bands. In order to make your mark (or make a decent living), you almost have to be touring constantly. And it's a shame, because European bands do not get that luxury.

Doro: Yeah, let's face it, being on the road costs a lot of money. And if you draw a decent crowd, things are okay, but if you are in a support slot, you pretty much have to pay for everything. So yeah, for foreign bands, it's a big gamble. I've been doing it for many years, and it is still tough. Sometimes I hear people saying how it was much easier in the '80s. [Laughs] I don't know about that! Everything had its pros and cons. I think, because of the Internet, bands at least get a shot at getting some kind of promotion. In the '80s, you were almost completely dependent on the record company to take care of you. But we work hard, and I appreciate every show I get to play in the States. I tell my German band friends to try really hard to come over, because there are a lot of really great European metal bands who would kill to come to America. And I'm sure the American metalheads would love them, too.

Heavy Metal Examiner: What do you think the reason was for you to be openly accepted by the metal crowd in the 1980s, while most other females who tried to break into the scene were looked upon as jokes?

Doro: I think it has to do with the fact that I made an instant connection with the fans from the first concert I ever played. There was just something so real about it. It went way beyond sex; there was a deep connection. I never felt like I was a girl in a band full of guys; I felt the unity of metal. And to me, "metal" always meant freedom and energy, being real and true. And I really think the fans picked up on that immediately, and that's how it has always been since. Being a girl or a woman wasn't part of the equation; it was all about being metal and being with friends. Sure, I thought that some of the costumes were cool, but for me, music was always first. Some of the record companies even tried to get me to wear more makeup and look sexier and more commercial. I remember when I came to America in 1987; the record company actually suggested that I shouldn't wear black leather and wear more feminine stuff. I was like, "Oh no, I love my leather,
and bullet belts, and boots!" But my manager said not to worry about it and just stay as I was. The label really felt they couldn't market me that way. I've always said that being who you are is the best way to go through life. Being fake doesn't work!

The concept of Maryland Deathfest is simple: to bring to the United States the best and most extreme bands the underground has to offer. Never conforming to trends, or being limited by genre restrictions, Maryland Deathfest is a showcase of what extreme music, both new and old, is capable of. With an emphasis on diversity, the festival brings together the very best death metal, grindcore, black metal, thrash, experimental and hardcore bands from all around the world. With bands from all over the U.S. and Canada, and exclusive fly ins and rare appearances from some of the most in demand bands from Europe, Australia, and Japan, the diversity of the lineup is only surpassed by the diversity of Maryland Deathfest's rabid fan base, who annually travel from all over the world for a weekend of fun and music.

Since Maryland Deathfest's inception in 2003, festival organizers Ryan and Evan have continued to strive to bring together some of the most legendary bands in the scene and some of the most talked about up-and-coming bands in the underground for an unparalleled experience. Combining the DIY attitude of two young metal fans who are actually part of the scene instead of trying to exploit it, with a refreshing professional touch, Maryland Deathfest is year after year given high marks for being one of the best-run and most organized festivals around.

OPETH's "In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall" DVD sold 3,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 2 on Billboard's Top Music Videos chart.

"In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall" has registered the following Top Music Videos and Music DVD chart positions so far:

USA: #2
Germany: #2
Canada: #3
UK: #3
Netherlands: #6

"In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall" was released on September 21 via Roadrunner Records.

Twenty years and nine records into their legendary career, OPETH's "progressively creative spirit" (ARTISTdirect) remains unwavering, propelling the band through the "Evolution XX: An Opeth Anthology" tour, which brought the Swedish titans to six of the world's most unique venues, and now, with the release of "In Live Concert At The Royal Albert Hall", into the homes of their fans.

The performance at the Royal Albert Hall includes two sets, the first consisting of the band performing 2000's now-classic, breakthrough epic "Blackwater Park" in its entirety, and the second, a chronologically arranged selection of material from the rest of OPETH's extensive catalogue, totaling almost three hours of music. It is, like the rest of OPETH's greatest work, "purposefully warped in all the right places" (Decibel). The front cover artwork concept pays tribute to DEEP PURPLE's "Concerto for Group and Orchestra", underlining the band's longstanding love for their prog-rock roots.

Thinking back to the concert, frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt says "OPETH had a magical night playing the Royal Albert Hall. It was a dream come true, and now afterwards, it still feels like a dream. We got it all on film, and this, our third live recording and DVD, might be my personal favorite.

"One couldn't help to think of all the fantastic artists that played there over the years. Looking back at this night of celebration brings me fond memories of our 20th anniversary — this package is the delayed birthday present."

The release is available as three very special configurations:

01. Limited-edition vinyl box set, which includes:

* Double-DVD set of OPETH's performance at the legendary Royal Albert Hall in its entirety. Bonus features include an exclusive interview and the behind-the-scenes documentary, "On Tour with Opeth". DVDs are in 5.1 Dolby surround sound, produced and mixed by Jens Bogren.

Davey Lee, the San Antonio, Texas-based guitarist for the metal bands REVEREND and BYFIST, died this morning (Friday, October 1) of a heart attack. He had played the guitar since the age of 15.

REVEREND last year announced the addition of vocalist Robb Steele (TRANSLUCENT EXISTENCE, BYFIST, BITTUR HARVEST) to the group's ranks.

Former REVEREND/METAL CHURCH singer David Wayne died on May 10, 2005 due to complications from injuries he sustained in a head-on automobile accident several months earlier. He was 47 years old.
Richmond, Virginia metallers LAMB OF GOD regret to inform their fans in Ecuador that they will not be able to perform at tonight's (Friday, October 1) Quito Fest. The LAMB OF GOD bandmembers were at the airport last night when their flight — and all flights — to Ecuador were canceled due to the attempt to overthrow the Ecuadorian government. LAMB OF GOD hopes the unrest will come to a quick end and would like to assure its fans that it will be back.

LAMB OF GOD recently released the "Hourglass" collection, a career-retrospective set that is available in seven different configurations.

LAMB OF GOD received a second Grammy Award nomination in the "Best Metal Performance" category — for the track "Set to Fail" from its latest album, "Wrath", which came out last year on Epic Records.

The band was previously nominated in the "Best Metal Performance" category for the song "Redneck" from LAMB OF GOD's 2006 album "Sacrament".

"Wrath" landed at position No. 2 on The Billboard 200 chart back in February 2009 with first-week sales of over 67,000 copies.

Cygnus of Sonic Shocks recently conducted an interview with guitarist/vocalist Michael Poulsen of Danish metal rock 'n' rollers VOLBEAT. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Sonic Shocks: What do you feel about the very good reception that the [new VOLBEAT] album ["Beyond Hell/Above Heaven"] has received?

Michael: Of course everyone is hoping for a good response, good album sales and stuff like that. It's been very interesting to see how the reaction was and so far it looks really crazy; it's really something that we are proud of. Every time you bring out a new album, it's getting more difficult and complicated because the listeners today they still want the band to sound totally the same but they also need the band to progress and do stuff they haven't heard before and I do believe that is something we have accomplished on the album. We've stretched everything on the previous albums and this record shows what VOLBEAT are really capable of doing.

Sonic Shocks: So you feel it's not a direct continuation from the last album but more a step up?

Michael: I'm so proud of each album. I just think it's important that you don't get stuck but somehow you're able to keep in line and that's what I believe we're doing. But my plan for the new album was to do an album that was the most style-wise random VOLBEAT record where we could actually take what we've done on our old material and stretch it even further plus do things that we haven't done before. It's definitely a record where we tried the most different styles out and it seems to have worked out pretty well and we're pretty satisfied by it.

Sonic Shocks: On the album itself you have members of KREATOR along with Barney from NAPALM DEATH doing guest appearances. How did it feel to work with them during the recording process?

Michael: It was definitely very inspirational because I've been listening to those guys since I was in school, those guys were some of the first extreme metal bands I was listening to. It's so weird that after so many years they're still around and I have my own band and they're listening to my records then being able to work with them is something that I'm proud of. Those guys did an amazing job on the album, it's my way of showing them respect but also showing them who I was inspired by as it's not only those elements but also old-school metal.

Sonic Shocks: How was the experience of touring with METALLICA in America?

Michael: Of course it's a dream come true to be able to do something like that, it's great to know that METALLICA chose VOLBEAT themselves because we played with them back in 2007 when they came to Denmark and Lars [Ulrich, METALLICA drummer] was asking what was the big fuss as everybody was talking about VOLBEAT and we were main support then he became a fan of VOLBEAT. After the show I had Lars in my house eating dinner. We hung out for a few days and he was really into our music; he knew some of our songtitles. Then we got offered this American tour of fifteen shows that was amazing to see. We talked to those guys every day and every night when you went to bed on tour you were thinking this was a dream come true. This proved to keep chasing your dream and that there's good people out there. METALLICA take good care of their support bands. It was not something I believed in when I was young and I was looking up at my METALLICA posters but now it's
happened all the struggling to get to where VOLBEAT are paid off.

Brendan Crabb of Utopia.com.au recently conducted an interview with guitarist Silenoz (real name: Sven Atle Kopperud) of Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Utopia.com.au: The last album (2007's "In Sorte Diaboli") featured many orchestrations, was very over-the-top and theatrical, but was also very DIMMU BORGIR. How do you approach a new album after that — do you aim to make it more grandiose and over-the-top or aim for something else entirely?

Silenoz: I think it's as much as we like the previous album, which is a great album, we felt that we wanted to maybe go back a little bit and also add a real orchestra and choir, because of dynamic reasons, basically. It worked really well on (2003's) "Death Cult Armageddon" and we approached the writing process for this album the same (way). We went through so many details; we pulled the songs apart, put them back together and then took them apart again, all the way until we felt they were flowing as best as they could. We also worked with a friend of ours, who also helped us with "Death Cult…" and (2001's) "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia", scoring the notes for the orchestra. So he was also involved in the process early on and that really helped the whole writing go much smoother than you would think. So it's a lot of details, a lot of work, but at the end of the day it wasn't so very hard work, really.

Utopia.com.au: In what other respects do you feel it is a step up from the previous record?

Silenoz: We have a feeling of completeness when we hear the album. Everything comes together on a larger scale, I think, and we feel that we have topped ourselves, otherwise I guess we wouldn't have the album ready. (laughs) We would never release anything that we were not satisfied with, and as a band and as an artist, you strive to top yourself from the last one. That's the whole ambition in itself, so for us the album is already a success. We're happy and satisfied with it. It's a lot to digest in the first spin, so it needs a bit of patience from the listener, but I'm sure the majority of the DIMMU fans are going to embrace it, because it's old DIMMU, it's new DIMMU, it's contemporary DIMMU; it's everything that we're known for, so the variation in the album itself is going to speak louder than words.

Utopia.com.au: You mentioned the word "success." While it's a relative term to use for a band who play music as heavy as DIMMU BORGIR does, the band are indeed one of the most successful extreme metal acts of the past decade. Does that carry any additional degree of pressure from the public when you are writing and recording a new album?

Silenoz: I don't think there's any more pressure for us than other bands releasing a new album. I think if there is any pressure we put that on ourselves, in terms of that we want to outdo ourselves with a new album. We felt early on when we did the demos for the songs for this album that we had something really special this time around. It's very varied, it has so many different elements and what's really good about it, too, is that you can pull any song off the new album individually and it really has the identity of DIMMU. It has all the different layers that we're known for.

Utopia.com.au: Now, the band experienced two high-profile and well-publicized departures prior to this album. Do you wish things that happened a little differently and been kept more private?

Silenoz: Well, you know it's kind of like our curse (laughs) — to have these lineup changes all the time. I'm sure it was very surprising and also looked very dramatic for the fans when things happened last year. But for the three of us — Galder (lead guitars), Shagrath (vocals) and myself — it was something that was inevitable. We had the choice of saving the band or keep it going as it was and that wouldn't be possible, really. So we had to make a choice and instead of crying over spilt milk, we took the bull by the horns and just moved forward. We put out the statement explaining our side of the story and that's it; we just moved on and never looked back.

Utopia.com.au: So when you go on tour in support of "Abrahadabra", will you just be enlisting some session players to perform live or do you have some people earmarked to possibly join the band full-time?

Silenoz: No, I think the permanent-member thing is not ever going to happen again; we cannot trust people anymore (laughs), for obvious reasons, and we don't want to trust people anymore when it comes to wanting to be with us, play with us and be in the band. So it's better if we decide four ourselves and hire the people that we feel we can work with.
Swedish progressive metal band MEMFIS has finally worked out its legal issues with Dental Records (which released the group's 2006 debut, "The Wind-Up") and is planning to release a new CD in the not-too-distant future on an as-yet-undisclosed new label.

MEMFIS' follow-up to "The Wind-Up" was recorded at Bohus Sound Studios (ABBA, STATUS QUO, ESBJÖRN SVENSSON TRIO, MUSTASCH) in Kungälv, Sweden. Engineered and produced by Fredrik Reinedahl (BURST, GADGET, CROWPATH, OPETH) and mastered by Dragan Tanaskovic, the CD consists of 12 tracks and "shows on a matured and more developed sound," according to the band.

Three songs from the forthcoming album — "In Chase Of Death", "Serpent" and "Vertigo" - are available for streaming on the MEMFIS MySpace page.

MEMFIS' debut CD, "The Wind-Up", entered the Swedish album chart at position No. 20.

MEMFIS was founded in the spring 2003 in Kristinehamn, Sweden. Two demos were recorded in 2004 and resulted in top-rated reviews and a co-operation with Dental Records.

In a 2006 interview, Swedish producer/multi-instrumentlist Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY, BLOODBATH, PAN THY MONIUM) praised MEMFIS as a "really, really good band" that "must be checked out by fans of OPETH and similar."
The self-proclaimed Leaders of the Truth Movement (HED)P.E. have been added as direct support on select dates of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES' upcoming headlining tour in October. (HED)P.E. will be touring in support of its new album, "Truth Rising", which lands in stores October 26 through Suburban Noize Records.

Maldives-based thrashers SERENITY DIES have parted ways with bassist/vocalist Chuck and guitarist Xiao due to personal reasons. According to a statement from the band, there is no ill will on either side and everyone remains close friends. Despite this, SERENITY DIES is fully committed to moving forward as a band and has announced that guitarist/vocalist Jared MacEachern (ex-SANCTITY) and bassist Addo (ex-FASYLIVE) have joined the fold. With this new lineup, SERENITY DIES is said to be "more powerful than ever" and is hard at work on the follow-up to its "Hacksawcracy" EP, which was released earlier this year.

Taking inspiration from the likes of MEGADETH and METALLICA with a uniquely modern twist that emphasizes memorable songwriting, surgically precise riffing, and one hell of a rhythmic punch, the Maldives-based act sprints out of the blocks with refreshing vigor.

Released in July, "Hacksawcracy" features guest appearances by Rob Caggiano (ANTHRAX) and Mikko Salovaara (KIUAS) who perform guitar solos on "Psycho Ride" and "Dystopian Law", respectively.

"Hacksawcracy" was produced/mixed by Anssi Kippo (CHILDREN OF BODOM) alongside Grammy Award-winning engineer Gavin Lurssen ("Slumdog Millionaire", "Across the Universe", "Iron Man", GUNS N' ROSES, ROB ZOMBIE, ALICE COOPER).

"Dreams do come true!" stated frontman Jahred. "(HED)P.E. recently got picked up for the SUICIDAL TENDENCIES tour and we are so freaking stoked. SUICIDAL TENDENCIES have been one of our biggest influences since going independent and that's where our punk-rock roots are. As a vocalist, I am totally inspired and influenced by Mike Muir's attitude, message and delivery, so this is a huge honor to share the stage with him. SUICIDAL TENDENCIES actually took (HED)P.E. out on one of our first tours about ten years ago. Since then we've embraced the punk-rock side of our music, so it kind of feels like things have come full circle and like it's fate for us to go back out with SUICIDAL again. SUICIDAL TENDENCIES are certified punk rock royalty!"

After many metal years under his belt, guitarist Shawn McCoy of the Raleigh, North Carolina-based underground legends CONFESSOR has decided to quit playing metal and write some music "for his soul." He describes the material as "very experimental" with a "Middle Eastern feel" and "somewhat psychadelic." He adds, "I'm sure lots of [fans of] CONFESSOR and [McCoy's post-CONFESSOR band] AGE OF DESPAIR will seriously enjoy this." Los Angeles-based metallers THE HUMAN ABSTRACT have set "Digital Veil" as the title of their new album, due in early 2011 via Hopeless Records. The CD was recorded earlier this year at The Machine Shop in Hoboken, New Jersey with producer William Putney (LAMB OF GOD, SUICIDE SILENCE).

A short preview clip for the new CD is available below.

"These new songs are among the most difficult THE HUMAN ABSTRACT songs to play, but at the same time are more satisfying," guitarist Dean Herrera previously stated. "Past songs sometimes felt more like exercises, these feel more well-rounded, with moments that are really fun to play."

THE HUMAN ABSTRACT recently announced a lineup change, with the addition of frontman and vocalist Travis Richter, formerly of FROM FIRST TO LAST and THE COLOR OF VIOLENCE. The band also welcomed back original guitarist/songwriter A.J. Minette, who led the way in the songwriting department for the new record.

"Without a doubt, this album has allowed me to step up not only as a bass player but as a musician," stated bassist Henry Selva. "We're stronger than ever before. I am super-pumped for all our fans old and new to hear it."

THE HUMAN ABSTRACT's sophomore full-length album, "Midheaven", came out in August 2008 via Hopeless Records.

New York death metal veterans IMMOLATION have offered the following explanation for last night's canceled performance at the Crazy Donkey in Farmingdale, New York:

"Unfortunately, the show at Crazy Donkey had to be cancelled due to the extreme weather expected in Farmingdale. Local authorities advised the club to stay closed as they were expecting extreme weather conditions throughout the night. We were all at the club for about three hours waiting to see if the show was going to happen or not. We found out at about 5:30 [p.m.] that it was definitely off.

"Ourselves and VADER, as well as the rest of the bands on the tour [ABIGAIL WILLIAMS, LECHEROUS NOCTURNE and PATHOLOGY], were all ready to play and looking forward to the show. We all appreciate the support of the fans and appreciate everyone's effort to make it out to the club. The cancellation turned out to be so last minute that it was very difficult to get much word out.

"Thanks again for all the support and we look forward to playing in our hometown area of New York again very soon!"

IMMOLATION's October 7 concert at The Rave/Eagles Club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin will be streamed live via TheRave.com. VADER, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS and LECHEROUS NOCTURNE are also scheduled to be part of the show and the live webcast. The worldwide broadcast will begin at 8 p.m. CDT (9 p.m. Eastern / 6 p.m. Pacific / 1 am. GMT). The concert will also be rebroadcast at a later date to be determined.

"Majesty And Decay", the eighth album from IMMOLATION, was released on March 9 in North America (one day earlier internationally) via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD sold around 1,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release. it landed at position No. 29 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Majesty And Decay" was recorded Millbrook Sound Studios in New York with longtime producer Paul Orofino. Mixing duties were handled by Zack Ohren, who has previously worked with DECREPIT BIRTH, SUFFOCATION and ALL SHALL PERISH, among others.
Dutch death metallers SINISTER will release their new album, "Legacy of Ashes", on December 10 via Massacre Records. The CD was recorded at Soundlodge studios in Rhauderfehn, Germany with producer Jörg Uken (GOD DETHRONED, OBSCENITY). The band states, "Expect the most brutal and fast SINISTER album ever."

Check out the cover artwork below.

SINISTER had the audio version of its August 24, 2006 concert at the Stodola Club in Warsaw, Poland released on CD on September 21, 2009 in Europe (via Metal Mind Productions) and December 1, 2009 in the USA (through MVD). The digipack edition was limited to 1,000 copies. Entitled "Prophecies Denied", the material was previously released in December 2006 as SINISTER's the first-ever live DVD, also featuring an interview with the band's frontman Aad Kloosterwaard and guitarist Alex Paul as well as a documentary, "Angels of the Apocalypse", plus rare footage.

SINISTER's last album, "The Silent Howling", was released in August 2008 via Massacre Records. The CD was also recorded at Soundlodge.

SINISTER's current lineup includes Aad Kloosterwaard (vocals), Alex Paul (guitar), Bas van den Bogaard (bass) and Edwin Van Den Eeden (drums).
Relapse Records has announced the signing of Albuquerque, New Mexico's NOISEAR. The band is currently writing material for its new album, with plans to record this winter for an early 2011 release. A U.S. tour in support of the new CD will kick off in May of next year.

NOISEAR, described as "desert baked grindcore from the land of enchantment," released one full-length album, "Pyroclastic Annihilation", in 2008 in addition to a number of splits, vinyl-only releases, and compilations, including this year's "This Comp Kills Fascists Vol. 2".

NOISEAR will release four brand new tracks next month via a digital and seven-inch vinyl split with THE ARSON PROJECT.

Hugin, frontman and founder of the Danish black metal band BLODARV, is featured in a book on Danish subculture by Peter Grønulnd, the author of "Sub-Land" (Gyldendal, 2005) and "Eurotrash" (Bogkompagniet, 2009). Due to be published on October 2 by Bogkompagniet, "Subkultur - Undergrund og Modkultur" explores themes such as black metal and satanism, the goth and psychobilly movements and hooliganism and anarchism through a series of essays and interviews with central figures from the various subcultures who discuss their respective values, attitudes and styles.

Hugin was a natural choice to feature in the chapter on Satanism and black metal, and his participation resulted in a fifteen-page interview that includes photos and some lyrics by the musician. Hugin says of the project, "I was initially very interested in Peter's whole concept about how black metal and Satanism fit into Danish subculture, because it had never been done before in such an in-depth way. After speaking with him, I agreed to take part, because I was confident that he would produce a serious, well-balanced and objective view on the subject without it being either dry or academic, or sinking into the quagmire of sensationalism that most writers fall into when they discuss black metal and Satanism."

Since its formation in 1999 as a solo project by Hugin (ex-SKJOLD, ARANTRUTH, ESSOUPI), BLODARV has expanded with a full live and recording lineup which today includes Hugin himself on vocals and guitars, Satinae Ma on female vocals, Pest (ex-EXCIDIUM, DARK INTENSIONS) on guitar, Huul (TAAGEFOLKET) on bass, and session member Ynleborgaz (ANGANTYR, VARDLOKKUR) on drums. The band has produced a total of eleven releases to date, in various formats, including the multimedia effort "Linaria Amlech" in 2006 and the band's latest album, "Civitas Diaboli", in 2009. BLODARV still remains, though, very much the vehicle for Hugin's imagination by bringing his innermost thoughts and emotions to life through the music. His poetry, which becomes the band's lyrics, leads the listener into a dark, evil, demonic world, peopled by lost souls, witches and demons.

Hugin is currently working on material for the next BLODARV full-length album, and in the interim, the band will feature on a split release due out in late 2010.

The CD was recorded and mixed by Pierre Rémillard (ANVIL, GORGUTS, CRYPTOPSY, KRISIUN) and was mastered by Alan Douches. MARTYR's back catalog was also reissued through Galy Records. The "Hopeless Hopes" (1997) album was re-released with a stunning new booklet, while both "Hopeless Hopes" and "Warp Zone" (2000) were remastered by Yannick St-Amand and contain four bonus tracks.

Norway's DØDHEIMSGARD (DHG) has been rejoined by vocalist Kvohst (a.k.a. Mat McNerney) and is currently working on material for a new album. According to a posting on the group's MySpace page, "Vicotnik [guitar, vocals] and Kvohst have turned a thousand burdens into 30 new tunes and texts. Once they are given an unclean bill of health, a new album will be discharged and released."

In other news, DØDHEIMSGARD has two new members — Terghl on drums and Blargh (NIDINGR) on guitar. The band states, "Both Terghl and Blargh have perfected their individual crafts for years and have had extensive band-experience before joining the DHG asylum. Both are looking forward to their new existence as unproductive members of society."

* Jormundgand (DEN SAAKALDTE) - Keyboards

DØDHEIMSGARD has been confirmed for next year's edition of Hellfest, set to take place June 17-19, 2010 in Clisson, France.

DØDHEIMSGARD's last album, "Supervillain Outcast", was released in April 2007 via Moonfog/The End Records. The CD was the follow-up to the critically acclaimed 1999 release "666 International", a sonically-charged rollercoaster ride of avant-garde chaos and intense black metal drive and atmosphere. The album, which ended up on many critics' Top 10 lists, helped inject the black metal music scene with something unique and groundbreaking the year of its release.

Danish death metallers THE CLEANSING have set "Feeding The Inevitable" as the title of their second album for a tentative late 2010/early 2011 release. The nine-song CD was mixed starting at CB studios in Denmark with producer Christian Bonde. The mastering duties were handled by Bjørn Engelmann (BEHEMOTH, BLOODBATH) at the Cutting Room in Sweden. Remy C. from Headsplit Design is currently working on the artwork/cover and the band states, "We're pretty sure he will come up with something sick!"

THE CLEANSING recently announced the addition of bassist Mads Haarløv (INIQUITY, STRANGLER, SACRIFICIAL, SWOLLEN) to the group's ranks.

Drummer Morten Løwe Sørensen was unable to join his THE CLEANSING bandmates on their Danish tour in April/May as the support act for DAWN OF DEMISE. He was temporarily replaced by Mads Lauridsen of Danish extreme metallers KONKHRA and PANZERCHRIST.

THE CLEANSING released its debut album, "Poisoned Legacy", on June 9, 2009 via Deepsend Records. The CD was produced by Jacob Hansen (RAUNCHY, ABORTED, DAWN OF DEMISE, VOLBEAT) and was described in a press release as "an album of highest quality destined to be a favorite of fans of MORBID ANGEL, IMMOLATION, DAWN OF DEMISE or VADER."
