it's weird that you say that because i wrote a similar email on wire
just last week. i agree 100%! here's what i said, slightly edited:
i thought i'd start a discussion about the set list....does anyone
else think it leans too heavy on the "greatest hits"? they seem to
have shaved a lot of NLOTH out of the program. does it bother you to
see the band preform the same songs over and over? it does me. i know
several other big bands with a very devoted fan base mix up the set
list every single show...or at least throw in some unexpected songs
that you might not have heard live before. and i too know that there
are a lot of people who go to see U2 live who only know the hits and
that's all they want to hear. but are the boys trying too hard to
please the "sorta" fan at the cost of alienating the hard-core ones?
(and i do know that they have to choreograph stuff...and prepare video
footage and lighting in advance. but STILL)
i am really quite sad that so many NLOTH songs are gone...but i'd be
ok if they were replacing them with stuff that hasn't been played in a
long time (and i don't mean replacing Ultraviolet with HMTMKMKM, cause
Ultraviolet was a TREAT! both, why can't they play BOTH?) and why
can't they bring back some older stuff that's GREAT LIVE!? for
example, a few songs that i think are better live than recorded:
A Sort of Homecoming
Surrender
Bad
Mofo
Zoo Station
i'd like to add too that Gone would be FABULOUS to hear live. in
preparation for this leg of the tour i've been listening to other tour
recordings and honestly...the stuff from Pop Mart is the best because
I haven't heard it all live over and over. AND remember how when they
started Zoo TV they said they'd play very little old stuff? it's kinda
refreshing! um, and what about a cover?? sigh.
