metal doesnt interest me.

maybe I'm too old.

tends to aggravate me and give me a headache, most punk does too.

In the old days I could listen to the Ramones for hours. Now its about 20-30 minutes, tops.

I'm still finding lots to grab onto. Maybe my tastes have changed, but I'm finding a pile of these quirky metal genres have some excellent band and thankfully, full albums that I can enjoy.

This whole symphonic metal thing has me interested, enough that I'm choosing my favourites now and not just hearing it as one big mess o' music. Currently enjoying a group called Therion, nicely done with some wonderfully composed and played pieces.

Another highlight for me is Apocalyptica. 3 guys on cello and a drummer. I've liked them for a few years, but after seeing them in concert this spring, I have become quite the fan. Not just cover songs from them, the recent Symphony 7, as well as other studio releases are top notch and full of originals.

I can find good stuff in almost every decade.... except this current one, and maybe the last one.

Bands have really lost me, the last several years.

What can I say, if you cant play as well as poor old me, why would I be impressed?

Maybe. We pass the golden period and have it in for whatever replaced it. There was good music out there in the 90's which is what my matchup show is about. Not sure anyone here is still voting on that one though. And at the time there was always something to like. For me it was Suzanne Vega, REM, Georgia Satellites, Smithereens and a bunch of other including some of the pure pop like Bangles and Belinda Carlisle.
