Re: [Classic_Rock_Forever] Re: Song of the year 1982 second round pt. 7

Way back, that was exactly what we were like here. Those songs and a million more of the same flavour were enormous hits. It's recently that the 'classic' stuff is starting to fade away from local airwaves.

I'm not the best barometer for radio, but I do have it on at times in the garage. In our smallish market, we have approximately 15 fm stations. That's everything from CBC talk radio, to independant, to typical corporate sponsored pop, country, hard, lite, MOR, rock, jazz, etc. There is no dedicated classic rock station any longer.

The hard rock station will pull stuff like Aerosmith out, but not regularly. They are thankfully, exploring new music and actually playing stuff that is somewhat 'out there'. I like that. If I really need to hear Sweet Emotion again in my life, I'll find it in my own stacks ;)

Stations played rock hits all the time, at least where I lived. Stuff like Aerosmith Walk this Way were gigantic hits, thats just one example, there were hundreds of them, Smoke on the Water, etc etc

Really? I figured 'classic rock' stations would be around until the last child of the times was gone. In the 70's, it was nearly impossible for hard rock to score a single hit. Stations just wouldn't play them. In the 80's where a lot of the albums are just singles with filler, they did release most of the right songs. Still plenty of exceptions.
Most of the best songs were never released as singles, which is why I've got all these songs added on to my lists. Can you imagine running 1971 without "Baba O'Reilly", "Aqualung", "Mercedes Benz" or "Stairway to Heaven"? Kinda meaningless without those at least running.
