Re: [Classic_Rock_Forever] Re: Song of the year 1982 second round pt. 7

That's my take on it. As we've mentioned, those formative years leave
some deep impressions. When the status quo starts to change it screws
with your comfort zone.

I can go to any year and find good music, the mainstream is weaker in
some years than others for me but there is always something that I can
be pleasantly surprised with.
I think trends can be disruptive and lead to some bad vibes. Disco
was a dirty word when it all came out. Ya Saturday Night Fever was a
monster hit, but the backlash against the genre was substantial. Punk
was not universally accepted as the next step, which is exactly what
the Punks loved about it.
Looking back I can find merit in both, although I still have
misgivings about both ;)

Maybe. We pass the golden period and have it in for whatever replaced
it. There was good music out there in the 90's which is what my matchup
show is about. Not sure anyone here is still voting on that one though.
And at the time there was always something to like. For me it was
Suzanne Vega, REM, Georgia Satellites, Smithereens and a bunch of other
including some of the pure pop like Bangles and Belinda Carlisle.
