Interesting, I was considering saying the same thing regarding albums and
the 70's. Of course there were good albums in the 60's, but singles were
more of the norm.

Personally I can find singles from any decade that I don't like or have
heard enough due to radio overplay that the experience has been killed for
me. The only difference these days is that I rarely listen to an actual
radio station. I might tune into something streaming from the CBC website,
but that is quite tailored to genre's.

70's was the decade for albums. They really kicked in the late 60's and by
the mid 80's it was back to singles and filler. Exceptions of course. You
can keep going for a long time on those awful 70's songs and those were the
big hits.
