According to LickLibrary.com, Laney Amplification, the U.K. manufacturer of guitar and bass amplifiers, will unveil the new Tony Iommi signature model tomorrow (March 21) at the Musikmesse Frankfurt 2012 fair in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Iommi will be using the new amp when BLACK SABBATH performs on Sunday, June 10 at the U.K.'s Download festival.

In January it was announced that Iommi was diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma. Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphocytes, a type of cell that forms part of the immune system. According to a statement issued by his publicist, the 64-year-old metal legend is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan and remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery.

MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil has released what appears to be the official poster for the band's upcoming co-headlining tour with KISS. Check it out below.

"Tomorrow!! Tour Dates!" reads Neil's tweet, in reference to today's expected 5 p.m. ET joint press conference where the tour will be officially announced. The trek will reportedly kick off on July 19 and run for almost three months.

KISS frontman Paul Stanley told The Pulse Of Radio that his band has never thrown a slow pitch opening act simply to make KISS look better. "I've never been a fan of bands who take on weak support to make them look good, or because they're not sure that they're up to the task," he said. "I always think that if you put on the great acts before us, then we go out there and have to prove why we deserve to be the headliner."

Neil told Robin Leach of the Las Vegas Sun about the upcoming tour, "It's going to be really cool because KISS is bringing their full stage show, and MÖTLEY will be bringing our full stage show, so you are going to see two huge headliners at the same time. It's going to be one of the biggest tours of the summer, if not the biggest."

KISS members declined to reveal any details about the upcoming tour at the "Kiss By Monster Mini Golf" grand opening on Thursday, but the band's guitarist, Tommy Thayer, did tell the Las Vegas Sun that he really enjoyed the CRÜE's performance at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel in February, saying, "MÖTLEY CRÜE is one of my favorite bands." He added that KISS would be interested in entertaining such a monthlong residency at some point. "It would have to be way over the top, but we're a band that does things over the top anyway," he said. "We know no boundaries."

MÖTLEY CRÜE recently entered drummer Tommy Lee's studio called The Atrium in Calabasas, California to begin recording a new song that will be released to coincide with the band's upcoming tour.

KISS has completed recording its new album, "Monster", for a summer release. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "It's A Long Way Down", "Back To The Stone Age", "Shout Mercy", "Out Of This World", "Wall Of Sound" and "Hell Or Hallelujah".

According to a posting on KISS' official web site, KissOnline.com, KISS will release a "Kiss Monster" book this summer. The band's guitarist, Tommy Thayer, met with the team from the U.K.'s First Light Publishers yesterday (Monday, March 19) to review full-size proofs from the giant book. More information will be made available soon.

"I wasn't interested in making an album unless I was in charge and no one agreed to it half-heartedly," KISS guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley told Classic Rock magazine. "The band's all there, all the time, and we cut the tracks all facing each other in the same room. Chemistry and camaraderie, that's essential. That's what made [2009's] 'Sonic Boom' so great, and this album is thunderously better."

KISS and MÖTLEY CRÜE will embark on a massive co-headlining tour this summer. The trek — which will see KISS closing the show each night — will kick off on July 20 in Bristow, Virginia and will run through September 23 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Live Nation-promoted tour will go on sale beginning Friday, March 23 at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com. The KISS Army fan club pre-sales begin Wednesday, March 21 at 10 a.m.

Said MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx: "Growing up, I had a KISS poster, AEROSMITH poster and SWEET on the wall, and for me to go out and do this together, it's an honor. I know what KISS is about — I've been watching them for years — and I think it's a perfect, perfect match. Maybe a match made in hell, in some places in America they may think, but it's a perfect match and it's gonna be all night long — hits, bombs, girls, topless a few. MÖTLEY CRÜE and KISS — I can't wait to experience it myself."

Added KISS frontman Paul Stanley: "Nikki and I have been in touch with each other and just going, 'This is awesome.' This is something we're all really fired up about. It's double what either one of us could do, so exponentially it's that much bigger. Whatever either band is capable of doing, you do it double on one night. It's out of the park, man. We're gonna level each city, literally."

With combined album sales of almost 200 million, KISS and MÖTLEY CRÜE are more than just iconic; they remain today as the dominant powerhouses of rock music tallying 30+ chart-topping hits, countless sold out tours and awards and accolades from around the world. Known for their elaborate and spectacular stage shows, each band plans to give fans the ultimate summer concert experience with the most impressive lighting and sound production ever and their signature over-the-top pyrotechnics. This is the first time KISS and MÖTLEY CRÜE will share a stage since 1982.

Video footage of today's press conference at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel announcing the tour can be seen below.

Stanley told The Pulse Of Radio that his band has never thrown a slow pitch opening act simply to make KISS look better. "I've never been a fan of bands who take on weak support to make them look good, or because they're not sure that they're up to the task," he said. METALLICA's 1991 self-titled fifth album, commonly known as "the black album," is among the ten LPs that have spent the most time on The Billboard 200 chart, according to Billboard.com.

"Metallica" in 2009 surpassed SHANIA TWAIN's 1997 record, "Come On Over", as the best-selling CD of the SoundScan era. To date, the black album has sold 15,757,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Although METALLICA had scored their first radio and video airplay with their previous effort, 1988's "...And Justice For All", the black album was the band's biggest commercial breakthrough, producing five singles and making them into one of the most popular rock bands in the world.

Drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone in 1991 about the record's musical shift, "We felt inadequate as musicians and as songwriters (early in our career). That made us go too far, around 'Master Of Puppets' and on '...And Justice For All', in the direction of trying to prove ourselves. We'll do all this weird-ass shit sideways to prove that we are capable musicians and songwriters."

Ulrich added about the eight months it took to make the album, "[Recording] should have gone quicker, in theory, than trying to get everything note-perfect like we have before. But as usual with METALLICA, all those theories and normalities go straight out the window. It took us twice as long to make a record that is twice as loose."

Frontman James Hetfield said, "It was [once] a challenge for us to jam every riff in the universe into one song and make it work. Now we're pretty much doing the opposite. Which is even more of a challenge."

The album was the first of four collaborations with producer Bob Rock, with whom the band clashed throughout the recording of the disc. Rock recalled to Music Radar, "The first three months were difficult. They were all very suspicious of me. It wasn't a fun, easy record to make. I told the guys when we were done that I'd never work with them again. They felt the same way about me."

Ulrich said about Rock in NME, "We'd never really had anybody push us before . . . We've always thought of ourselves as 'Big Bad Metallica,' but Bob taught us a new word none of us had ever heard before: soulful."

METALLICA will perform "the black album" in its entirety at a number of European festivals this summer.

Albums that have spent the most time on The Billboard 200 chart:

* 800 weeks - "Dark Side of the Moon" - PINK FLOYD, 1973
* 490 weeks - "Johnny's Greatest Hits" - JOHNNY MATHIS, 1958
* 480 weeks - "My Fair Lady" - Original Cast, 1956
* 331 weeks - "Highlights From The Phantom Of The Opera" - Original Cast, 1992
* 305 weeks - "Oklahoma!" Soundtrack, 1956
* 302 weeks - "Tapestry" - CAROLE KING, 1971
* 295 weeks - "Heavenly" - JOHNNY MATHIS, 1959
* 282 weeks - "MCMXC a.D." - ENIGMA, 1991
* 282 weeks - "Metallica" - METALLICA, 1991
* 277 weeks - "The King And I" Soundtrack, 1956

Ex-METALLICA bassist Ron McGovney has slammed his former bandmate, ex-METALLICA guitarist and current MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine, for "dissing" him in interviews and "minimizing" McGovney's contributions to METALLICA.

Mustaine and McGovney joined METALLICA on stage on December 10, 2011 for the fourth and final intimate show at the Fillmore in San Francisco as part of the group's week-long celebration of its 30th anniversary as a band for fan club members only (see video below).

Mustaine, who was one of the original members of METALLICA, was fired from the band by drummer Lars Ulrich in 1983. He was replaced by Kirk Hammett and went on to form MEGADETH and achieve worldwide success on his own.

Earlier this month, Mustaine was asked by noted conspiracy theorist Alex Jones what it was like to perform with METALLICA again more than 25 years after he was fired from the band. "It's very cathartic, what took place," Mustaine replied. "When we started off, it was three guys that, we didn't know what we were gonna do. We just loved playing together, we loved fast and heavy music. If you would have told us we [were going to] change the world and that every guitar-playing kid from here to Timbuktu would be playng my style of guitar playing, I would have said you were out of your mind. But that's how it started. We were a three-piece — James [Hetfield] sang, I played guitar, Lars drummed and we had a bass player at the time that we changed for Cliff Burton, who we really wanted."

Writing on his official Facebook page late last night (Monday, March 19), McGovney addressed Mustaine's comments by saying, "I really don't understand why a certain former lead guitar player of a band that I played bass in still disses me in interviews. Saying that they were a 'three-piece' is just ridiculous."

He added, "I thought we got along well when we saw each other in December. We even shared a dressing room.

"He can minimize my contribution to the band all he wants. Sometimes he doesn't even mention my name. What he needs to realize is that he came to MY garage to try out for this band. The first song he learned was a song that the singer and I had already played in a previous band. He even got kicked out of the band when I was still a member, even though it only lasted a couple of days.

"I wish he would just tell the whole story if he is going to talk about that part of his career."

In a 2004 interview with AllMetallica.com, McGovney stated about his time with METALLICA, "All of the songs that are found on [METALLICA's debut album] 'Kill 'Em All' were written in my garage and we played all of them when I was in the band. We also did DIAMOND HEAD covers: 'The Prince', 'Sucking My Love', 'Am I Evil', and 'Helpless'. We covered 'Blitzkrieg' by BLITZKRIEG, 'Let It Loose' by SAVAGE and 'Killing Time' by SWEET SAVAGE. All of those songs can be found on bootlegs, but I have a practice tape of us doing some of those songs. I am going to put a copy up on eBay soon. I did do some arranging of the songs, but I was never credited with anything. I played at least 28 gigs with the band in the first year."

DOWN, the acclaimed New Orleans band which features in its ranks CORROSION OF CONFORMITY guitarist/vocalist Pepper Keenan, drummer Jimmy Bower (EYEHATEGOD, SUPERJOINT RITUAL guitarist), bassist Patrick Bruders (CROWBAR), guitarist Kirk Windstein (CROWBAR), and vocalist Philip Anselmo (SUPERJOINT RITUAL, PANTERA) — entered the studio in October to begin recording the first in a series of four EPs, to be released over the next few years (with a year between EPs), each touching on a different aspect of the band's sound.

The first six-song EP, which heralds the sound of DOWN going back to its roots, with influences from BLACK SABBATH, SAINT VITUS and WITCHFINDER GENERAL, is described by Anselmo as "a very pure doom metal record."

In a new posting on DOWN's Facebook page, Windstein writes, "Get ready for the new DOWN, it's almost finished being mixed... and it's gonna crush!"

The track listing for the effort is as follows (in no particular order):

01. Levitation
02. Witchtripper
03. The Misfortune Teller
04. The Curse Is A Lie
05. Open Coffins
06. This Work Is Timeless

Speaking to Jerel Johnson of Target Audience, Bower stated about DOWN's new EP, "We went for a really raw sound and went back to [the sound of the first DOWN album] 'Nola'. The songs are really SABBATH-ed-out. I'm really happy the way it came out. It's really aggressive and raw. All them rock n' roll adjectives in there, bro. It's doomy!"

He continued, "The idea is we're doing four EPs and the first one is pretty much cut-throat. The third one is supposed to be the acoustic one. But we're releasing four EPs within the next year and a half. They all coincide with one theme. Like the artwork and everything. It's like a big story. . . It was recorded at the Lair again (Anselmo's his barn studio, Nodferatu's Lair. The studio's name is a play on classic horror film vampire Nosferatu, altered to reflect certain musicians' tendency to nod off.), the same place we did 'Down II' and recorded it at a New Orleans studio. The last record, 'Over The Under', we recorded in L.A. because a lot of the studios weren't up and running after Katrina. So it was really nice to stay home and have that New Orleans vibe in the record to as well. Makes a difference, man."

When asked if there are any songs on the new EP that stand out, Bower said, "'Witchtripper'. It sounds like DOWN, and I'm really excited about it. I'm more excited about it than 'Over The Under'. 'Over The Under' was a great record, but I think the production was a little too much, and this takes us back to the raw roots and the songs are good. But 'Witchtripper' is my favorite one. We were in Spain for a festival, and walking around and we kept seeing rocks on people's doors. We were like, 'Dude, it must be to trip a witch.' At first, it seemed kind of silly, but once we wrote the song and lyrics — Philip wrote the lyrics — it was really cool. Hopefully we'll make a video for it, too."

ROB ZOMBIE/ex-MARILYN MANSON guitarist John 5 will record a guest appearance on the forthcoming debut album from ADLER, the new band led by former GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler. The session is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Wednesday, March 21) at a studio in Los Angeles.

In addition to Steven, ADLER features Lonny Paul (ADLER'S APPETITE) on guitar and Jacob Bunton (LYNAM, MARS ELECTRIC) on vocals/guitar. The group has completed eight songs for its debut album, which is being recorded in Los Angeles with producers Jeff Pilson (former DOKKEN and current FOREIGNER/TOOTH AND NAIL bassist) and Jay Ruston (ANTHRAX, STEEL PANTHER, ADRENALINE MOB).

"I love the music that we're creating!" states Adler. "I haven't been this excited about my band since the GN'R days. Jacob is exactly the singer I have been searching for. He has an amazing range and is a great writer and frontman. Lonny is an amazing guitarist and songwriter and the vibe is amazing!" He added, "I'm so excited for everyone to hear this record!"

Also scheduled to appear on ADLER's debut CD is legendary VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash.

Steven spent the past several years touring and recording with ADLER'S APPETITE, which played original material alongside cover versions of songs from GUNS' classic debut album, "Appetite For Destruction".

In 2010, Adler collaborated with Slash on the latter's self-titled debut solo album. He appeared on the track "Baby Can't Drive", along with RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist Flea, Alice Cooper and Nicole Scherzinger. The song was featured on an expanded edition of the album released by Classic Rock magazine.

Adler, Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, singer Axl Rose and guitarist Izzy Stradlin will all be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next month in Cleveland, along with later GUNS N' ROSES members, keyboardist Dizzy Reed and drummer Matt Sorum.

According to the MTV News, actor Johnny Depp and shock rocker Marilyn Manson recorded a cover of Carly Simon's 1972 hit "You're So Vain" for the singer's upcoming eighth studio album, "Born Villain", which is due out on May 1. Depp reportedly played both the lead guitar and drums on the track, while Manson handled the vocal duties.

Speaking about the collaboration, Manson told MTV News that the duo decided on doing "a cover of a song which we thought was ironic for each other." He added, "[Johnny] played drums and lead guitar, and I played guitar and sang. It's a bonus track on my new record and the video will probably be us looking at each other in a mirror."

Depp and Manson first collaborated in 2001 when Manson contributed the song "The Nobodies" to Depp's Jack the Ripper movie "From Hell".

Marilyn Manson's new single, "No Reflection", was premiered on March 7 on the Los Angeles radio station KROQ and can be streamed below.

Manson's U.S. theater tour is scheduled to kick off April 27.

The singer last September unveiled a new music video for the song "Born Villain" directed by actor Shia LaBeouf.

German thrash metal veterans KREATOR revealed the cover artwork of the limited edition of the band's upcoming album, "Phantom Antichrist". The limited edition will be made available as two-disc digipack, including a bonus DVD.

Commented KREATOR guitarist/vocalist Mille Petrozza: "Jan Meininghaus, who did this one, is a cover artist from my hometown, Essen, Germany. I really love the artwork he came up with for the limited edition. It's pure mayhem, powerful and dark!"

"Phantom Antichrist" will be released on June 1 in Europe and June 5 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden with renowned producer Jens Bogren (OPETH, KATATONIA, SOILWORK, DEVIN TOWNSEND, AMON AMARTH).

The cover artwork for the standard edition of "Phantom Antichrist" was created by Wes Benscoter (SLAYER, DIO, BLACK SABBATH) and can be seen below.

KREATOR will release a seven-inch single containing the "Phantom Antichrist" title track on April 20. The collector's item will be available in colored red vinyl (limited to 250 pieces) as well as in clear vinyl (limited to 250 pieces, exclusively available at the Nuclear Blast mailorder).

A brand new promotional photo of KREATOR can be seen below (photo by Stefan Heilemann of Stuttgart, Germany's Heilemania).

When asked about the musical direction of KREATOR's new material, the band's guitarist/vocalist Miland "Mille" Petrozza stated in a recent interview, "The songs are coming along great and I think it's OK to say that this will be our most epic album so far. There's some classical, a lot of traditional metal, and, of course, a huge dose of thrash metal influences in the new stuff. Everyone in the band is very excited at this point. The demos sound killer so far. We have about 10 songs we're working on so far.

Regarding the lyrical and visual concept for the forthcoming CD, Petrozza said, "It's too early to talk about the lyrics yet; many are written, but they keep changing all the time. Visually, we have tapped Wes Benscoter [BLACK SABBATH, DIO, SLAYER, CATTLE DECAPITATION, BLOODBATH] for the cover art. I can tell you this much: The artwork will be insane!"

In an interview with Aftonbladet journalist Mattias Kling, Petrozza stated about KREATOR's collaboration with Jens Bogren, "He's really good; I like him. I like the sounds that he gets. And I think the combination — Jens Bogren and KREATOR — it will be pretty heavy."

On the topic of how the new material is different from KREATOR's previous output, Mille said, "It's always a little hard for me to talk about music has been written but is not released yet. It will definitely have all the KREATOR trademarks. The lyrics will talk about nowadays stuff, as usual, so it will be like a photography of the year 2012. Also the lyrics will deal a lot of things that are actually happening at this point in time. It will be like reading a newspaper or something [laughs], with all the stuff happening. And, of course, the music will be typical KREATOR, and we also wanna expand the sound and progress as musicians. I mean, this lineup has been the strongest lineup KREATOR ever had since ten years, and now I think we're ready to come out with an album that blows everyone away."

KREATOR has selected Poland's Grupa 13 (BEHEMOTH, ELUVEITIE, SONATA ARCTICA, DECAPITATED) to helm the video for the title track of their forthcoming album, "Phantom Antichrist".

Commented KREATOR guitarist/vocalist Mille Petrozza: "The clips produced by Grupa 13 are groundbreaking visual trips that justify the existence of music videos in this day and age. In support of the lyrical concept of our new album, I could not think of a better creative solution than a collaboration with these great visionaries."

KREATOR is:

Miland "Mille" Petrozza – Vocals, Guitrar
Sami Yli-Sirniö - Guitar
Christian "Speesy" Giesler - Bass
Jürgen "Ventor" Reil - Drums

Holland: #12
Switzerland: #14
Germany: #26
Austria: #33
Portugal: #36
UK: #112

A CD-release party for "Requiem For The Indifferent" was held last Friday night (March 16) at 013 in Tilburg, Netherlands. EPICA played the new album in its entirety, along with some older tracks, during the more-than-two-hour event. Pyrotechnics and special show elements were added as well.

Fan-filmed video footage of the entire 013 concert can be seen in two parts below.

"Requiem For The Indifferent" was released on March 9 in Europe and four days later in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Gate Studio in Wolfsburg, Germany under the watchful eye of Sascha Paeth.

A video for "Storm The Sorrow" was filmed last month and it "will show the band in a way you have never seen before," according to a press release.

"Requiem For The Indifferent" track listing:

01. Karma
02. Monopoly On Truth
03. Storm The Sorrow
04. Delirium
05. Internal Warfare
06. Requiem For The Indifferent
07. Anima
08. Guilty Demeanor
09. Deep Water Horizon
10. Stay The Course
11. Deter The Tyrant
12. Avalanche
13. Serenade Of Self-Destruction

North American bonus tracks:

14. Twin Flames (Soundtrack Version)
15. Nostalgia

Regarding the "Requiem For The Indifferent" album title, the band previously said, "This title refers to the end of an era. Mankind can no longer stick their head in the sand for the things that are happening around us. We are facing many challenges. There is an enormous tension between different religions and cultures, wars, natural disasters and a huge financial crisis, which is getting out of control. More than ever we will need each other to overcome these problems. As we are all connected; the universe, earth, nature, animals and human beings, this period in time will be the prelude to the end for those who still don't want to, or simply won't see it. 'A Requiem For The Indifferent', but also a possibility for a new beginning with great new chances!"
According to a new tweet from STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor, "construction" on the band's new album began yesterday. He added, "It's gonna be a motherfucking MONSTER."

Taylor previously said that STONE SOUR's follow-up to 2010's "Audio Secrecy" would probably be recorded in Iowa with producer David Bottrill, who has previously worked with TOOL, MUSE and Peter Gabriel, among others.

"I am looking forward to basically becoming a mad scientist in the studio and creating an album that no one wants us to make," Taylor told ARTISTdirect. "I pretty much got permission to do whatever I wanted, which means that I'm essentially going against the grain in an age where people are fucking trying to simply put out singles. We're looking to do a double concept album and really make it destructive."

He added, "Picture [PINK FLOYD's] 'The Wall' meets [ALICE IN CHAINS'] 'Dirt' on steroids, and that will give you a taste of what I'm shooting for right now. The stuff we have right now is nuclear. It's pretty much going to go all the way. It's dark as shit. There's so much balls out rock on it as well as some good headpunchers and some really cool fucking dark pieces. I'm really excited about it."

Taylor said about the storyline for the next STONE SOUR record, "It's basically the story of a man who's trying to figure it out. He can't figure out if he's happier when he's miserable, or if he's miserable about not being happy. It's almost like a mid-life crisis in a way. He's young enough that he knows that there's still a lot of life to live, but he's old enough to realize that he can't be hung up on the romance of teenage depression and youthful aggression."

Swedish all-girl hard rock quartet CRUCIFIED BARBARA has inked a deal with Nuclear Blast Records for North America (U.S., Canada, and México) plus New Zealand and Australia. The band's third studio album, "The Midnight Chase", will be released in North America this summer. The CD was recorded at Music-A-Matic Vintage Recording Studio in Gothenberg, Sweden with sound engineer Henryk Lipp and producer Chips Kiesby.

"We're really proud of our new album and so incredibly happy that Nuclear Blast will release it!" states the band. "They've always worked with the coolest bands and now all of a sudden, we're one of them. This is the beginning of a long, hard-rockin' friendship!"

Formed in Stockholm in 1998 by bassist Ida Evileye (now-wife of MESHUGGAH drummer Tomas Haake) and guitarist Klara Force, CRUCIFIED BARBARA plays a fiery brand of rock 'n' roll tinged with metal and lashings of punk, pop, thrash, and whatever else dares to cross their path. Ida Evileye dominates her trusty Sandberg bass, Klara Force rocks steady on her '76 Gibson Explorer, Mia Coldheart belts out her unapologetic vocals while riffing all over her Gibson Gothic Flying V, and Nicki Wicked pounds on her hot pink sparkle Yamaha Maple drum kit until you're splayed across the floor with a bull's-eye knock-out punch that'll make you spit your teeth out. Now you know what happens when MOTÖRHEAD mates with THE RUNAWAYS.

No strangers to hard work or success, CRUCIFIED BARBARA's debut single from their 2005 debut, "In Distortion We Trust", climbed to #8 on the Swedish pop chart. They played Australia, toured across Europe opening for MOTÖRHEAD, SEPULTURA, IN FLAMES, and DORO, and earned a prestigious slot alongside BLACK SABBATH, VELVET REVOLVER, and SYSTEM OF A DOWN at the U.K.'s Download festival. With all that touring, it would be four years before the band got around to recording their second album, 2009's "'Til Death Do Us Party". Next thing you know, there they were on national television performing at the 2010 edition of Melodifestivalen, the Swedish national final for the Eurovision Song Contest.

So how did they get their name? The band members attended Denmark's legendary Roskilde Festival and came across something very unexpected in a nearby forest: a blow-up doll (generically called "Barbara" throughout Sweden) attached to a crucifix. And no, they didn't identify with the victim, they claimed the power of the aggressor right on the spot and have never looked back.

ALTERNATIVE 4, the brainchild of Duncan Patterson (ANATHEMA), has inked a deal with Prophecy Productions. The band's new album will be entitled "The Obscurants" and will probably be recorded in late 2012.

Patterson is an icon of melancholic alternative rock music. With his crucial songwriting role on ANATHEMA's "Eternity" and "Alternative 4", he freed the Liverpool doomsters of their tight metal corset, he founded the likewise renowned ANTIMATTER whose first albums he shaped significantly, and he explored ethereal melancholia on two ÍON albums thus far.

With the band name derived from the ANATHEMA album from 1998, the musical and atmospheric direction of ALTERNATIVE 4 is described in a press release as "a solid rock foundation enriched with painful piano and string arrangements, sometimes on the verge of ambient music, sometimes offering the big influence of the rather dark and abysmal side of PINK FLOYD." All this can already be witnessed on last year's debut album, "The Brink", and will now be continued with further album releases on Prophecy Productions.

Commented Patterson: "It's good to be back onboard a label who have always had respect for my work, regardless of how obscure or 'uncommercial' it often turns out. In today's musical climate, it is difficult to find a decent label who are genuinely focused more on the artistic/innovative side than anything else. For me that is essential as I've no plans to start playing and writing fashionable music as a career move, not unless I do it accidentally that is."

Jerry Gaskill, drummer for legendary rockers KING'S X, will be released from the hospital tomorrow (Wednesday, March 21) — more than three weeks after he suffered a heart attack and underwent an emergency operation.

A brand new photo of Gaskill taken yesterday (Monday, March 19) during KING'S X frontman Doug Pinnick's hospital visit can be seen below.

To help Gaskill pay his medical bills, KING'S X is offering a special MP3 download-only title, "Burning Down Boston: Live at The Channel 6.12.91". This release was edited and mastered from a stereo FOH (front-of-house) recording. While the audio is far from perfect sonically, the performance documents yet another magical night on tour while supporting the "Faith Hope Love" album. The band expands many of the cuts featured here, including performances that are blistering ("Moanjam"), heavy and funk-laden ("We Are Finding Who We Are"), beautiful ("The Burning Down"), and truly transcendental ("Over My Head"). A few songs from the show were omitted due to tape damage. However, three bonus tracks have been included (an additional 15 minutes) from the same show that were not presented in the main track listing.

In addition to the gift with this download, anyone who wants to further make a personal gift to Jerry to help him with his medical bills can send a check made out to Jerry Gaskill. Mail it to: Jerry Gaskill, c/o World Entertainment Inc., P.O. Box 3095, Sea Bright, NJ 07760. One hundred percent of your gift goes to Jerry Gaskill to help him defray his medical expenses. Jerry Gaskill is an individual and not a charity. Any funds given to him would be a gift and no further tax deduction for charitable contributions would be coming from him.

Los Angeles-based instrumental progressive metal trio POLARIZATION has inked a deal with Mediaskare Records. The band's debut album, "Chasing The Light", will be released in the spring.

The brainchild of guitarist and songwriter Prashant Mathias, POLARIZATION came together a year and a half ago when Mathias moved here from his native India to attend Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. "It's a big step for the band and for me personally," he states. "I came here two years ago as a scholarship student for MI. I've already achieved the first of many goals by signing a record deal with a label I respect — especially [because they have] bands like VOLUMES and EXOTIC ANIMAL PETTING ZOO."

POLARIZATION's lineup is rounded out by drummer and fellow MI student Tom Asvold, a Swedish transplant, as well as bassist Steve Hilson. They've carved a name and niche for themselves with a heady mix of progressive musical ideas, straightforward metal riffs, free jazz and pulsing electronica that has coalesced into a sound that is uniquely their own.

To date, POLARIZATION has shared stages with ANIMALS AS LEADERS, FAIR TO MIDLAND and PRONG, among others. They will play next on Thursday, March 22 alongside PRONG, BLACK TUSK, IT'S CASUAL and EARLY MAN.
Peter Hodgson of IHeartGuitarBlog.com recently conducted an interview with ALTER BRIDGE/CREED guitarist Mark Tremonti. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

IHeartGuitarBlog.com: What about your solo album? That's coming out soon.

Mark: Yeah! I've already mixed it all. We have a mastering date with Ted Jensen, the best masterer on earth. It sounds really nice. It's the first time I've ever sang on a record, so it was a good challenge for me. It's just fun! I'm a songwriter: I have lots of stuff sitting around that will never see the light of day unless I do something with it! So…

IHeartGuitarBlog.com: As a singer, have you always been a lead vocalist or is that something you had to push yourself into on this stuff? Singing lead is a lot different to doing backing vocals.

Mark: Well, I've always been a songwriter, so I've sung while I was playing, but I write in my falsetto, so I'm hitting very high notes and all over the place, but I've always had a low range, so for my solo stuff I tune it way down. Y'know, I just never had the confidence before. I think the more I've sang over the years, the more I've developed the confidence in my voice, and I'm finally ready to do it on my own. But it's a whole different world.

IHeartGuitarBlog.com: Will we hear your shred skills on the solo album?

Mark: Well, it's melody driven. These are songs. It's not shred for the sake of shred. It's not an instrumental record, it's a rock record, y'know? It's definitely got some shreddy solos on there, but there are some more tasteful ones as well. The record's a harder, heavier record than I've done in the past, so most of the solos are kind of pushing it a little bit. But no tapping or stuff like that.

CREED and ALTER BRIDGE guitarist Mark Tremonti has revealed the cover artwork of his upcoming debut solo album, "All I Was", tentatively due late spring/early summer. Check it out below.

Working songtitles set to appear on the CD:

* All I Was
* Brains
* So You're Afraid
* You Waste Your Time
* Decay
* New Way Out
* Leave It Alone
* Wish You Well
* Don't Claim
* Proof
* Gone
* All That I Got
* Giving Up
* Doesn't Matter

Tremonti handles all lead vocals on the CD, with additional contributions from Eric Friedman (backing vocals, guitar, bass) and Garrett Whitlock (drums)

Tremonti recently said that his upcoming solo album will be heavier than both CREED and ALTER BRIDGE — and contain even more lead guitar solos than he does with either group. Speaking with ARTISTdirect, Tremonti explained, "It's a dynamic record. It's probably heavier than either CREED or ALTER BRIDGE, but it's still melody-driven. Most of the stuff is more up-tempo and heavy-riffing though. I had to write eleven solos for this record so it took me a long time. There's lots of soloing."

With regards to his vocal performance on the CD, Tremonti told IHeartGuitarBlog.com, "It's the first time I've ever sang on a record, so it was a good challenge for me. . . I've always been a songwriter, so I've sung while I was playing, but I write in my falsetto, so I'm hitting very high notes and all over the place, but I've always had a low range, so for my solo stuff I tune it way down. Y'know, I just never had the confidence before. I think the more I've sang over the years, the more I've developed the confidence in my voice, and I'm finally ready to do it on my own. But it's a whole different world."

Swedish hard rockers FATAL SMILE will release their new album, "21st Century Freaks", on May 7 via FS Records/GMR Music Group. The CD was produced by Mr. Y, engineered/recorded by Philty and mixed by the two of them together. The mastering duties were handled by Mats "Limpan" Lindfors at Cutting Room Studios.

"21st Century Freaks" track listing:

01. Welcome To The Freakshow
02. Nailed To The Wall
03. Raisning Hell In Heaven
04. Judgement Day
05. Broken Heart
06. My Private Hell
07. Scarecrow
08. Innocent
09. Break This Chains
10. Take It To The Limit
11. For The Last In Line

After playing 350 shows internationally during their "World Domination Tour" with such bands as DIO, W.A.S.P., QUEENSRŸCHE, DORO and LORDI in support of their last album, "World Domination", FATAL SMILE spent over a year writing and recording songs for the follow-up effort. Entitled "21st Century Freaks", the new CD was recorded in the tour buses, hotel rooms and studios all over the world before eleven songs were singled out and re-recorded during 2011.

Ten top names tried out for the mixing job, all mixing the song planned as the second single of the album. The band put together a jury of friends to pick out their favorite mix, which turned out to be mix No. 5, not knowing it was mixed by FATAL SMILE's own drummer Philty and guitarist Mr. Y!

According to a press release, "this time [the bandmembers] have done everything on their own to make it the ultimate FATAL SMILE album, from recording and engineering to producing and mixing the album and the result is massive, with 'in-your-face' songs and a 'larger-than-life' sound!"

The first single & video, "Welcome To The Freakshow", will be released in Europe in April. The video was directed by Owe Lingwall, who has previously worked with KAMELOT, MESHUGGAH and THE RASMUS, among others.

A trailer for "Welcome To The Freakshow" can be seen below.

Mr. Y - Guitar

Philty – Drums

DISTURBED frontman David Draiman has revealed via a series of tweets that he is working on a new musical project while the band is on hiatus. According to the singer, the as-yet-unnamed project will feature a more "industrial" sound in the vein of NINE INCH NAILS and MINISTRY.

Draiman first spoke about the new project last week during the taping of a "That Metal Show" episode which will air on May 26 on VH1 Classic.

DISTURBED went on an open-ended hiatus last fall, following the completion of the touring cycle for its 2010 album "Asylum".

DISTURBED has not indicated when it plans to return, although all four members say it's not likely that the group will stay away for good.

DISTURBED released its first-ever collection of B-sides and rarities, titled "The Lost Children", last November. The set includes a previously unreleased song called "Mine" as well as a benefit track for the West Memphis Three titled "3", plus tunes that previously appeared only on soundtracks or as bonus cuts on international editions of the group's albums.
'80s hard rock queen Lita Ford will release her new album, "Living Like A Runaway", on June 19 in North America via SPV/Steamhammer. The effort will be available in four configurations: double LP, limited-edition CD, standard CD and digital download.

Commented Lita: "This CD is truly a dream come true. It took me one year to write this CD along with producer Gary Hoey and songwriting partner Michael Dan Ehming. We have dumped out hearts and souls into this amazing CD. Along with a lot of tears, pain, heartache, laughter, ripping out hair, going hungry, losing sleep and a lot of frequent-flyer miles. 'Living Like a Runaway' is like being able to walk through fire and coming out the other side unscathed."

Coinciding with the album's release, Lita will hit the road this summer with DEF LEPPARD and POISON on the "Rock Of Ages Tour".

Lita is looking forward to the tour and getting to play the new songs live.

"We are honored with this awesome tour and being able to play with these brilliant musicians," she says. "So strap in tight, it's going to be one powerful journey."

Best known for her work with THE RUNAWAYS and her solo career, including hit singles "Kiss Me Deadly" and the Billboard-charting duet with Ozzy Osbourne, "Close My Eyes Forever", Lita is ready to make a return to the throne as the queen of metal.

"Living Like A Runaway" was co-written and produced by Gary Hoey and represents a return to form for Lita, who drew inspiration from her "ugly divorce" from NITRO singer Jim Gillette.

"Gary Hoey and I wanted to approach this record by getting back to basics," she said. "We want to strip away all the electronics and plug-ins and keep it to vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. Going back to basics is going back to what punk, metal and THE RUNAWAYS was for me."

She added, "[The album title] 'Living Like A Runaway' means freedom and empowerment. To do what I want and to pursue my dreams while answering to no one."

In a 2011 interview with Classic Rock Revisited, Lita said that "Living Like A Runaway" will be her "real comeback album." She explained, "The last album I did was called 'Wicked Wonderland', I put it out with Jim Gillette, and we were married at the time. It is kind of a Jim/Lita album and not a really true Lita album. I got a lot of spiel about that. A lot of people have told me that they want a real Lita album, and I know what they mean. They are going to get it."

She continued, "I really wasn't that comfortable with 'Wicked Wonderland' — not at all, to tell you the truth. There are parts of it that are good but it doesn't sound like a Lita record. When it got released, a lot of my fans felt weird about it and said it wasn't a Lita album. This time I want to do it on my own. The last one turned out to be more of a Jim album. We worked pretty well together. It doesn't suck, it's not a bad album; it's just not a Lita album."

Lita and Jim are the parents of two sons, Rocco and James.

Backstage Auctions has announced its annual "Rock Gods And Metal Monsters Auction", a one-of-a-kind, rock-you-to-your-core online auction event. "Almost every item being offered in the auction is "iconic hard rock and heavy metal memorabilia" and is easily identifiable to a specific artist or band that spans three decades," explains Backstage Auctions founder Jacques van Gool.

The auction, which is scheduled to go live in April, features amazing rock relics direct from the personal collections of Scott Ian (ANTHRAX), Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX), Page Hamilton (HELMET), John Tempesta (THE CULT, ex-WHITE ZOMBIE, EXODUS, TESTAMENT), Sean Yseult (ex-WHITE ZOMBIE), Rudy Sarzo (QUIET RIOT, OZZY OSBOURNE, WHITESNAKE), Scott Rockenfield (QUEENSRŸCHE), Al Jourgensen (MINISTRY)… just to name a few.

"This year's auction catalog really took on a life of its own when we started getting in so many rare but highly personal items from each of the artists and industry executives," says van Gool. "It's not every day that you get a dozen guitars belonging to Scott Ian, but knowing that each of these guitars have a kick-ass story, that is a fan or collector's dream. Of course, giving fans and collectors direct access to rare pieces of rock history is always our goal when we build our auction events, and we have definitely achieved that with this auction."

There is definitely a wide range of collectibles featured in the auction and whether you are a fan or collector, you can bet that your inner rock star will come out! "We have everything from guitars, amps, cabinets, drum kits and heads, Gold and platinum records awards, artist stage worn apparel to master recordings, rare concert posters, historical ephemera, photos and negatives with 'money shots,' picks and sticks and the list goes on and on. We couldn't be more pleased with how the catalog came together and the final result," adds van Gool.

Equally impressive are the private collections of various music industry executives, which feature a jaw-dropping collection of RIAA record awards, rare and sealed vinyl, promotional items, signed memorabilia, ephemera, promo jackets and concert shirts, interview cassettes and so much more. "The fact that these executives worked for various records labels, means the memorabilia covers a wide range of artists such as JUDAS PRIEST, KISS, VAN HALEN, THIN LIZZY, OZZY OSBOURNE, PEARL JAM, PANTERA, TWISTED SISTER, DOKKEN, Gary Moore, KORN, STRYPER, INCUBUS, MÖTLEY CRÜE, METAL CHURCH, GRIM REAPER and the list just goes on, it's very impressive," says van Gool.

The event, aptly titled the "Rock Gods and Metal Monsters Auction", is a not-to-miss opportunity for fans and collectors around the world to own an authentic piece of one of the most significant genres of music history. The online auction starts April 21 and will run through April 29. A special VIP All Access preview of the entire auction catalog will be available beginning Saturday, April 14.

Swedish progressive/doom metallers MINORA are collaborating with former IN FLAMES and current THE RESISTANCE guitarist Jesper Strömblad on a few songs that MINORA is planning to release later this year.

MINORA's debut album, "Imago", was released about a year ago. The Gothenburg, Sweden-based band "adds unique aspects to their metal sound with a mix of alternative post-rock and progressive elements," according to a pres release. "The result has been turning the ears of many in the metal/rock scene after countless shows and re-invention."

"Imago" was recorded at Svenska Grammofonstudion (DARK TRANQUILLITY, THE HAUNTED) in Gothenburg and was mixed and mastered by David Castillo (KATATONIA, BLOODBATH, OPETH) at Ghost Ward in Stockholm during 2010. The album is full of dynamic, heavy, guitar-driven songs and even includes a cover of BJÖRK's "Jóga". The band also employed the design skills of Shelby Cinca, who has done work for THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and DARKEST HOUR.

Northern Germany's DREADLINK has inked a deal with Massacre Records.

According to a press release, "The history of DREADLINK began in 2009, when five experienced musicians decided to form a band, which soon became more than a band. It became a philosophy.

"DREADLINK is authentic and deep and sounds more like an engine running rough than a conventional metal band. The band switches from brutal groovy passages to melodic melancholic parts that will still crawl under your skin even if you've heard it a thousand times.

"Good songwriting and songs with a high recognition value are really important to DREADLINK. They don't focus on technical finesses — because the song itself is the most important thing."

DREADLINK is:

Klas Mossakowski - Drums, Samples
Jannes Carstens-Behrens - Lead Guitar
Sascha Brüggert - Rhythm Guitar
Timo Herrmann - Bass
Raphael Adamek - Vocals

Sick Drummer Magazine and Perseverance Holdings Ltd. have announced the "Death To All Tour 2012" in benefit of Sweet Relief. This five-city tour will feature a majority of DEATH's amazing musicians, as well as special guests. This tour is to celebrate the life and music of Chuck Schuldiner, as well as to raise awareness of Sweet Relief Musicians Fund — a charity that provides financial assistance to career musicians faced with illness, disability or age-related problems.

This tour will kick off in San Francisco, California and work its way to Orlando, Florida — stopping in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York along the way.

The drums will be handled by Gene Hoglan ("Individual Thought Patterns", "Symbolic") and Sean Reinert ("Human"). On bass will be Steve DiGiorgio ("Human", "Individual Thought Patterns") and Scott Clendenin ("The Sound Of Perseverance"). Guitar duties will be shared by Paul Masvidal ("Human"), Shannon Hamm ("The Sound of Perseverance") and Bobby Koelble ("Symbolic").

The first vocalist to be announced for the "Death To All Tour 2012" is Charles Elliott of ABYSMAL DAWN and BEREFT.

Commented Elliott: "'Who the hell is Charles Elliott?' is what I imagine some people saying as they're reading this announcement. It's true — compared to some of the legends associated with these amazing shows, I'm the new kid on the block. Even when they asked me to do it I was somewhat reluctant and suggested numerous other artists who I thought sounded more like Chuck and have been around longer, i.e. John Tardy, Martin Van Drunen, Luc Lemay, etc. In the end, I think they chose me to perform some of these songs because I'm a huge DEATH fan and because, more than anything, they felt I'm part of a newer generation embodying the overall spirit of Chuck. I'm glad they asked me though because playing with these guys is more than a dream come true and I couldn't be more excited about it.

"Let me just say that I don't pretend to be Chuck Schuldiner. I don't sound exactly like him and I'm not trying to, even if he is an influence of mine. Chuck was a unique individual, as am I. What I am trying to do though is humbly pay tribute to a man and band that changed my life, while supporting his family and a charity I believe in. I know some people will inevitably talk shit no matter what, but now at least I've said my piece.

"My first band INHUMAN VISIONS opened up for DEATH back in 1998 at what would become the infamous 'Live In L.A.' show. I was just a kid and I think if you listen closely at the very end of the show, you can hear me screaming, 'Thank you, DEATH' on the DVD. That statement is as true as it was in that life-changing moment as it is now.

"Thank you, Chuck Schuldiner, for a legacy of metal that left a lasting impression on me. I hope to do you justice, as the fans and musicians you touched all gather to pay tribute to you and your music. Let the metal flow."

The dates are as follows:

June 22 - The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco, CA
June 23 - House of Blues – West Hollywood, CA
June 26 - House of Blues - Chicago, IL
June 28 - Irving Plaza – New York, NY
June 30 - The Beacham - Orlando, FL

Providence, Rhode Island's metallic beasts HOWL have entered Planet Z studio in Hadley, Massachusetts with producer Chris "Zeuss" Harris (SOULFLY, CROWBAR, MUNICIPAL WASTE, 3 INCHES OF BLOOD) to record their sophomore album. A fall release via Relapse Records is expected.

HOWL, who built a reputation for its unforgiving MASTODON-meets-LAMB OF GOD pummeling attack, previously released a full-length and EP via Relapse.

Commented HOWL guitarist/vocalist Vincent Hausman: "This is the meanest and heaviest thing we've ever done, and we feel like the songwriting is a big step forward since 'Full Of Hell'.

"We're super-psyched to team up with Zeuss, because we feel like he'll properly capture this monster of a record."

Dutch symphonic black metal act CARACH ANGREN will release its third album, "Where The Corpses Sink Forever", on May 18 via Season Of Mist. The CD was recorded Tidal Wave studio in Karlsruhe, Germany.

"Where The Corpses Sink Forever" track listing:

01. An Ominous Recording
02. Lingering In An Imprint Haunting
03. Bitte Tötet Mich
04. The Funerary Dirge Of A Violinist
05. Sir John
06. Spectral Infantry Battalions
07. General Nightmare
08. Little Hector What Have You Done?
09. These Fields Are Lurking (Seven Pairs Of Demon Eyes)

MAGENTA HARVEST, the Finnish death metal band featuring current and former members of FINNTROLL, CHTHONIAN, MYGRAIN and ...AND OCEANS, will release its second demo, "Apparition Of Ending", on March 23. According to a press release, the new effort — which is available for streaming on MySpace — sees the group widening its soundscape with the help of Aleksi Virta of FINNTROLL, who "create[d] some epic keyboard stuff" to go along with the material.

"Apparition Of Ending" track listing:

* Apparition Of Ending
* The Unavailing Surpasser
* Carrion Of Men
* One Walks Down

MAGENTA HARVEST released its debut EP, "A Familiar Room", in February 2011. The four tracks — "Spawn Of Neglect", "Sermon", "Killing Sign" and "A Familiar Room" — can also be streamed on MySpace.

MAGENTA HARVEST was formed in 2005 as a two-man project featuring Timo Kontio (HAVOC UNIT, ...AND OCEANS) on guitar and Janne Manninen (MYGRAIN, ...AND OCEANS) on drums. In 2009, second guitarist Timo Hanhikangas (TOTAL VOMIT EXPERIENCE) and bassist Jonas Frilund (CHTHONIAN) joined the band. Another year went by before Mathias Lillmåns (FINNTROLL, CHTHONIAN) agreed to front the group.

MAGENTA HARVEST states: "[Lillmåns' addition to the band] was easy because we had discussed about this with Mathias already a few years earlier, but the decision wasn't that clear at first because Mathias were quite busy with his other musical activities and we thought also that there was no need for any singer before we had the rest of band in order and also some stuff ready to work with.

"When Mathias joined the band he actually came directly to the studio. Of course he didn't have any lyrics ready then, but luckily we got help from Jan (ex-FINNTROLL). "

MAGENTA HARVEST is:

* Timo Hanhikangas (TOTAL VOMIT EXPERIENCE) - Guitar
* Jonas Frilund (CHTHONIAN) - Bass
* Timo Kontio (HAVOC UNIT, ...AND OCEANS) - Guitar
* Mathias Lillmåns (FINNTROLL, CHTHONIAN) - Vocals
* Janne Manninen (MYGRAIN, ...AND OCEANS) – Drums

French black metallers HELL MILITIA have inked a deal with Season Of Mist. The band will release its third album in late 2012 via Season Of Mist's Underground Activist division.

Commented the group: "HELL MILITIA are really enthusiastic about that new signing with Season Of Mist. We join many of our comrades and have known some of the Season Of Mist guys for quite a long time so it had to happen someday. There has been a lot of work on the new album, and it was composed in a very special way, far from everything, and even now we are still hard at work on the mix. We can't wait to have the final result in our fucking hands, for sure the sickest opus of HELL MILITIA."
