It was pure fantasy Howldog, plain and simple......musical story telling using costumes and backdrops. Call it a British thing. It took me a while to start to appreciate the music ....I never liked the fire breathing or fake blood spitting that Kiss did. Couldn't see the point.

I've said this before, but, I was into Kiss musically before I ever saw the make up or the costumes. A friend gave me a poorly recorded cassette of their first two albums and I dug it. I always liked that two guitar chuckberry powerchord thing they used to do, I liked all the bands that did that, Status Quo, Foghat, stuff like that

A few days later I rode my bike up to the store to find the albums and I'll never forget seeing the album covers for the first time... "These freaks? WTF is this?" but the song titles matched

I hated early Genesis, I've heard it all, I've been subjected to it many times by guys in proggie bands, I've seen the stupid videos where Gabriel is dancing around in a stupid flower suit, he looks like something out of a childrens movie gone horribly wrong. I never liked their music.

Costumes and makeup alone dont get it. The music has to hook you first.

That was interesting back in the early Kiss days. It was just the music speaking for me at the time. I suppose I saw picture's of them in Circus, and on album covers, but I didn't actually see them move until a Halloween special of Paul lynde, when he had them as guests.

The grease paint sure didn't guarantee the music. I recall some of those outfits and make up bits of Peter Gabriel back with Genesis, still didn't get me overly interested.

With Kiss I wouldn't touch with a barge pole....never did like the grease paint shock & awe style ("Alice Cooper" included). Rush though I liked a lot, but the vocals needed getting used to.

Doors is another band I don;t get into much. Rush I love especially the early 80's. Fell free to comment at will on the show, bring out who/what you know and get discussion going about some of the songs on the list. But I'd also like your vote in the mix.
